Why not use KDZ? They do the exact same thing. Both are non wipe. At least the KDZ Updater gives you a proper progress as opposed LGNPST.
TOT is only really for the E970 and N4.

Hmm well I am trying to revert back to stock and relock boot loader so I can try out stock ota, not sure if kdz would work
I just want to start over from scratch really and clean it up as well. I have been looking how to relock boot loader but can't find anything

They both do the exact same thing. Unless you have an E970, I would not recommend using the TOT method.

If you are going to KDZ, it will relock it. Every partition will go back to stock.
Otherwise you can use the freegee app to relock bootloader by restoring the backup. Only do it if you are still on an ICS rom.

Please be careful. I just picked up a E-971 (rogers) yesturday. Noticed there was an ota update. Did some research and read that the ota will not work with unlocked bootloader and rooted. Early this morning I relocked the bootloader and unrooted it. The phone turn off and has not turned back on. I can get it to flash the LG screen then it goes black.
I can get to the fastboot mode and the download mode but that is it.
I have tried everything so far but no success. I am re-downloading the kdz in hopes the first one was corrupt. Still researching and this is a soft brick so I am pretty sure I can get it back.
Just sharing my experience.
I use freegee to relock the bootloader and su to unroot.

i've read otherwise; KDZ doesn't rewrite everything whereas LGNPST does.

Nope they do the same thing. LGNPST can't fix a corrupt misc partition and neither can KDZ.
KDZ is more trouble free.

This is my first post on xda forums. I just purchased LG optimus G E975 ( indian version ) yesterday
I have used this guide

to root my phone and I there is no error in rooting and I can find the superuser app installed.
I have a simple doubt by using the above guide is my bootloader still locked or it's unlocked in the process ??
I also want to keep my stock android and don't want to use Custom ROM as of now ( I would like to explore features that LG provided )
I just want to unlock my bootloader and have full root access and want to install custom ROM clockworkmod.

Succes ? I'll get my e975 in a few days. And of course want to unlock BL, root and if there are some, to flash custom kernel.
FreeGee not working on E975(yet).I have E975 10c(4.1.2)(Orange romania) and i also want cwm on it.Rooting procedure is very easy,took me about 1 minute(thanks fiddy for that).
Unfortunately i couldn't find anything related to cwm.
Also, is there way to check bootloader status?

CWM is not available and will not be.
unlock is working with another version of freegee.
but is not public and Shelnutt2 is working on an easier way, but he need some files.
please try the latest freegee beta: http://downloads.codefi.re/shelnutt2/optimusg/freegee/FreeGee-beta.apk
starts the unlock method and upload the files for freegee to support your rom in the future.

Just an update, as soon as some from HK or tw can send me the ICS sbl stack we can move forward with a better unlock. If no one offers up to dump the images soon I might have to ask someone on an e975 to kdz to their ICS firmware and grab them for me.

Just use freegee from the play store and you are good to unlock after rooting.

Are you rooted? What happens when you unlock? Does it just reboot to a black screen?

Enter in recovery mode and see if you have custom recovery. On optimus G you can't have CWM recovery without unlocked bootloader.
Solution
Install this application that can automatically boot in recovery mode (if there is recovery installed)
QuickBoot -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot
If there is no recovery installed you have to install FreeGee and unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery with it.

Anyways, even if your bootloader is unlocked and a custom recovery is installed, I strongly suggest you re-unlock and update your recovery to the last version of CWM with the help of FreeGee.

Which is better for opt G ?
Personally i use cwm touch.twrp had sone issues on this phone,but with latest version it's fixed.

The easiest way to see if you are both rooted and unlocked is to enter in recovery mode.If you have recovery mode, it also means you are rooted.You can't unlock the bootloader if you are not rooted, so checking for root is redundant .

eem no google but underneath is locker icon and looks up so unlocked .. but that shows only with nexus 4..

Is there any guides to relocking Optimus G specifically? I got the phone already unlocked but I can't return it to stock since KDZ updater and LG Mobile Support Tool can't detect my phone.
hi all.
Once I unlocked and installed CWM recovery to my current stock rom, can I still use KDZ updater to flash KDZ file in future?
I don't know how to start talking about this so here we go...
I tried updating OTA with my phone rooted. I never unlocked bootloader btw. In the midst of updating, I got the android laying flat on his back w/ the red triangle w/ the exclamation point in the middle. I freaked out and was bout to cry until my phone booted up. I never had that happen.
A few days later, I decided to unroot my phone and try updating again (because the constant popups were annoying) and same problem.
My last resort was factory resetting the phone and try the update...no dice.
So I need help.
1) How can I update when it just...won't let me. Another option is
2) How can I can turn off the pop up notification. I know how to turn off the status bar notification. Or a REALLY DRASTIC OPTION is
3) How do I unlock bootloader? I am terrified and would want proof but this method is if I am REALLY desperate.
If nothing works, I hope I can take my phone up to Sprint and exchange it for an HTC 8XT, since my phone is still worth something...I hope.

Don't OTA it then. Download some ZVC rims in the Android development section..... I believe Mr.Nerdz ZVC is a stock rom with no tweaks what so ever. Dunno if it comes root or not and if not, rooting and unlocking is the same as ZVB

Then use the sbl unlock in FreeGee's menu.
Or LGNPST with teeny bins. Both unlock the same way, just with a different delivery.

Yeah. When I first have LGOG, I used freegee and soft brick as well. Then used teeny bin and was okay. The latest freegee helped me unlock and didn't soft brick on me in zvc when I manual update zvc thru lgpnst

May you send me a link of some sort. I have no idea what to do in LGNPST. I tried using it to unbrick device but my laptop was just not cooperating.

I've tried ROM Manager, Titanium Backup, Quickboot, even the manual ADB way, and my LG Optimus G E971 (Canada w/ Rogers) won't boot into recovery mode. So I can't backup and/or install ClockWorldMod and install ROMs
Upon reboot, this is what I get. Please see the below image. BTW: I can get out of this by holding down the power button and power the phone up as normal, but can't boot into recovery mode.

I have a brand new LG Optimus G Pro e980 with the software version E98020G.
FreeGee says it cannot use loki on it so the CWM recovery won't work and when I tried to put TWRP on it, it just sat there doing nothing.
What am I doing wrong?

20g is KitKat..freegee won't work on KitKat by default...you need to install another recovery, and then freegee ..search in the bountyman g3 ROM thread

I was rooted and an OTA update just bricked me.
Says
Secure booting Error!
Cause: boot certification verify
I can't get the phone in download mode or anything...did I just brick it for good?
