Hello. I've encrypted my sd card and have been dealing with occasional images and videos files being corrupt and not being able to be read. I have a SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSDXC Card (Class 10/U1). I've formatted this card in the phone and is now formatted using the SD Formatter using my PC but with the same outcome. Would rooting this phone have anything to do with corrupt files or could it possibly be my SD Card? Or maybe perhaps the encryption method used by the phone is just not reliable?
Any help is much appreciated.
In the meantime, I've decrypted my phone so let's see if there are any reliability changes.
Update: I got a new replacement and have the same damn problem. I have turned off SD Card encryption and it has been good so far.
Could you please suggest something equivalent in the event my phone is lost or stolen? I have TrustGo installed and do believe it can wipe my phone but not the data on the SD card.

Hello all.
Was just listening to some music on my desire when Astro Player crashed. Couldn't get it to restart so restarted my phone instead. Now its telling me my SD card is damaged and I may need to reformat.
Anything I can do or am I buggered?
It wasn't the original 4gb card, I was using an older 8gb card. I've been using it awhile though without any problems so I doubt that was it?
Do you need the data on it? If not then just reformat it... thereĀ“s nothing horrible about this ;-)
I do have some stuff on there I needed. And Isn't a lot of app data stored on the SD card? Just a bit of hassle really isn't it?
Try hooking up the SD card with a card reader directly in your PC, it might be able to open/read the files without a problem. If that's the case, copy everything (just select all>copy) off the card, format it and move the stuff back.
8GB damage & repair
I also have troubles with 8GB card.
Unsure whats wrong but time to time i still get SD Card is corrupted message.
Only U can do is new format or try to read by card reader on your PC.

Hi there.
I'm having problems with the SD card, is always unmounting with no apparent reason...
When I'm on the Album (or gallery) and I scroll trough the photos (I've got a few) the card is unmounted and I need to take it of, and put it back in...
While I'm copying files from the PC to the card (trough the phone) the same thing happens...
The card is a sandisk class 10 32Gb... it was used on my SGS2 and never had any problem...
Does it worth to buy another card, or someone else is having the same problems?
I think this is a problem with your sd card. I don't have any problem like that.
Can you please tell me what card do you have?
I have already formatted the card on the pc and on the phone, the result is the same...
Weird problem, I own a Goodram 32 GB Class 10 micro sd card and I haven't got any problems with it. You say that you have tried formatting the card. What format have you chosen? Have you tried reset to factory reset your device? Are you on some custom rom or the stock one? Do you have a possibility to check wheter the problem exists with other micro sd card? Perhaps you can borrow it from someone for a moment or you have another one somewhere. Worst case scenario the card port could be damaged.

I have a Kingston microSDHC 32GB, Class 4 :good:
Hi,
I'm sure that's an issue with your sd card. I've had the same issue with my old SGS3 and an SanDisk 64GB sd card. Then I bought a new Kingston 64GB sd card and it works.
I formated in FAT and in FAT32, same result in both.
Im in the stock ROM, totally unchanged.
I already get a new card and I'm testing it now, if it stills get me troubles I will try the factory reset.
Yeah... that is my fear... that the port is defective or something like that
Ok, updating from the previous post.
I've bought another SD Card and although that on the first time that I used it on the phone, it gave me the same behavior, after formatted it on the phone itself, so far so good.
I've tried the old SD Card with an adapter on the pc, and it works fine, no problem at all... so it must be something specific to the phone, I've read that some Samsung are a SD card eaters, so I believe that the problem is related to that (my previous phone was a SGS2).
Thank you all for the tips.

Not necessarily.
Card of class 4 may be good enough for your computer, specially if it is older too, but may be too weak for newest modern phone.

An SD card can't be 'too weak'

Alright though I think the title says it all, I have a 64GB SanDisk micro SDXC card that I bought for my T-Mobile M8 and the card is formatted exFat using the built-in storage menu in settings.
My dilemma is that though everything seems to be correct, every time I reboot the phone or remove and reinstall the card or unmount the card, it can not be remounted without formatting it first and my PC doesn't recognize the card until it's been reformatted and remounted in the phone again.
I've read all about KitKat's ridiculous new sdcard policies and restrictions but I genuinely don't believe that my problem is related to the security updates that came with KitKat. I'm thinking there is another underlying problem.
I'm currently running ViperONE 1.8.0. Though I don't believe ViperONE is the cause.
any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

And this is with a 64GB card? I had it formatted to FAT32 earlier today and to my surprise it did not corrupt the card after a reboot but it DID have trouble re-mounting the card.
I'll try it again with the program you suggested and see if that changes anything. Thanks for the suggestion.
Originally I purchased a PNY 64G SD card for my Note 4 and noticed that my data would be lost when I rebooted my phone. This only happened when there was about 4.5G of data on the SD card. When I rebooted the phone, I would need to re-mount the card in order for it to be recognized. After reading through some other posts, I suspected it was the SD card since it's not a well known brand.
I then purchased a Samsung SD card and the same thing's happening. Any ideas?
Thx.
Hardware malfunction, return it under warranty for a new one.
My SD card is always corrupted. I tried using different SD cards even i bought a brand new SD card and it is still giving me issues . I did a factory reset and still does the same. Anyone else with the same issue?
What's the capacity and speed of your SD card? How are you formatting the SD card? Do you use it preformatted or format using the phone? The reason I'm asking is it seems to me that Sony has set a too low timeout values for formatting and mounting the SD card. So if your card is very big or not fast enough, the phone would timeout too early when formatting and/or mounting the SD card on boot, thus causing it to be detected as corrupted. At least that is how it seems on my phone.
perhaps have reset your phone from previous backup ? if this is the problem already happened to me ,
They are both high speed cards 10 cards Toshiba and Samsung to be more specific. When i format them they seem to kinda work at the beginning i even managed to copy a video file but after a phone restart it gets corrupted .
MM updated through xperia companion here, seems to be working normally with the old microsd card
Hi Team,
I also have the same issue here, whenever I move applications to SD card (Samsung Class 10), the application stops working and I have to
reboot the phone to have it running again. Though it happens only... when phone is from Doze mode, turned on the screen with power button, and after turning on mobile data and run the app like COC or Viber it crashes. Now this happens only, if my application is in SD, if it's on the phone it's working fine.
Hello everyone.
I also have this problem. I have a Sandisk ultra (red and grey) 32gb class 10 sd card, and my M5 on 6.0 cannot format it at all, first it says it's corrupted and I have to fix it, then the format screen is stuck on 20% and after a while it says the card cannot be formatted. The card isn't counterfeit, and it worked flawlessly in my m4. It was replaced under warranty because I presumed it became faulty, and I still have the same problem. There is no problem with it on my PC. Also the phone freezes when the card is removed and I have to turn it off with a paperclip on the small "off" button.
You have sd card restrictions on 6.0, so you can use it for media, can't move apps... I've got Transcend sd card class 10, no problem at all.
I know about the SD card restrictions but my card was working fine in 5.1 for storing photos and videos taken by the camera applications . Now i have tested even more cards and they all have the same behavior. Even with an 4GB and 8 GB Toshiba cards and an old 2GB transcend card.
tonev, how are you formatting the card?
On the phone it self. Also tried to format it on my laptop , Same result. Sometimes it works fine and after i restart my phone it gets corrupted again
any news or fix here? seems we're stuck with this sd behavior? can't really move apps to sd card?

Is it correct to assume that you restart the phone only using the default power menu and not using any third party interface?
Another thing, it is not advisable to format the SD card using Window's Format function. It is possible to damage the SD card this way. The safest way to format an SD card in Windows is by downloading and using the SDFormatter utility. I don't know if formatting you card in Windows is what has caused your SD card to be corrupted, but it is something to be considered.
Yes i do restart the phone only by using the default power button. menu. And none of my cards are corrupted because they work fine on other devices. As i said before a brand new never used genuine samsung SD card does not work on the phone.
