When using Mobile odin make sure to check ever root from the settings and it will root your device in the process of installing the new firmware.

Do you know if the system status would be "modified" or "normal"? I need to have it stay at "normal" otherwise i wouldn't be able to continue to use my AllShare hub.
Re: Can I root with mobile odin?
System status would remain normal as long as you don't install a custom recovery.

Thanks guys rooted again with 4.1.2 . Waiting for the chief to update v12

okay so let me see if I am following. I am also trying to root the newest firmware. You got mobile odin from the market while not rooted then you used the latest firmware that teshx posted the stock firmware not the odexed or deodexed versions right? So basically you just reinstalled the stock firmware and had mobile odin inject root. I was thinking of using cf autoroot. Once that is done then using the tookit to rename the recovery files and done. The pain in the ass part is the newer android os rewrites the stock recovery when you are on a stock rom. What a pain in the ass. The only other option is to wait for the toolkit to be updated with the latest tmo firmware so that you could flash an insecure kernel and then install root via toolkit and then twrp. Anyway please let me know if the above is how you rooted.
Thank you
In order to use mobile odin you have to be rooted already. You can than upgrade using a factory image and use mobile odin to flash the image and inject root.
Mobile odin will keep the normal status on the device with stock recovery but fully rooted. If you wish to install twrp you can do so via the goo manager app.

This is what I did....I was running jedi master 11 then I wanted to update. So I downloaded the stock firmware from sammobile and then flashed it with mobile odin. http://www.smartphonejam.com/2013/0...amsung-Galaxy-Note2-SGH-T889.html?m=1....boom im rooted again . Hope this helps. Just follow what the link says its really easy.

So I downloaded the factory image via one of the posts on here. I would put it on my external or internal and then click on OTA/Update Zip? Everoot is all checked as well.

Download the tar or tar.md5 factory image file to your sd card (external or internal). On mobile odin tap on "open file" and choose the factory tar or tar.md5 file. Make sure the ever root option is checked and flash. When the phone boots up you will be updated to the new firmware, rooted, and all your data untouched.

mobile odin is version of odin you can use on your phone to flash tar files it is not a recovery stock roms are usually in a .tar format
Soo if I wanted tto go back to stock. Is using mobile Odin ideal? Stock meaning like no root, no rom, back to factory. I was looking at another thread. Someone was going back to stock to upgrade to jellybean, root it, nandroid, now they have a good fall back to fresh start

So I was reading around the web - particularly on Droid-Life that the Verizon Note II now has been updated to fix the Exynos-related bug. Now, I'm on the international LTE model - GT-N7105 - and sooner or later I will receive the update as well. Now, as stated in the article linked earlier , a rooted user tried downloading the update and failed. So there's the backstory.
Now, as for my question. I will obviously have to unroot (which I am looking to do anyways) but here's the thing. I rooted using the ExynosAbuse apk from Chainfire. That makes the status in Settings -> About device set to "Custom", thereby preventing me from receiving OTA updates. ExynosAbuse has an unroot button. When pressed, it tells you to reboot to complete the process and then to reboot around 10 minutes later since it might reset the status to "Normal". Well, it doesn't do that for me.
So I used another tool by Chainfire; TriangleAway to set my ODIN flash counter back to 0 (in case it was causing anything; didn't check.)
Now, I used TriangleAway get around the "Modified" thing. Experimented with the 'Allow tracker to run' feature and ended up getting my flash counter to be 0 and my system status to say normal.
When the update arrives, I will probably have to unroot. However, as previously stated, my system status will go Modified when I do. So here's the question (and TL;DR):
TL;DR: I am having TriangleAway set to allow the tracker to run in order to have my system status "Normal" and I want to unroot in order to receive the update that has started rolling out. However, disabling the tracker and unrooting will set my device status to "Custom". That will prevent me from receiving the update. What do I do?
Additional info: I have not flashed ANYTHING custom - I only rooted for a few Xposed tweaks.
Thanks for your time.
Flash stock rom and then update.

1. Download the correct firmware update from sammobile.com
2. Update your firmware thru Odin
And you will have a fresh firmware with Status Normal.

Okay, so to clear this up:
- Will flashing the latest firmware in Odin (or Heimdall, which I'll be using; OSX...) wipe my phone? Will it though the flash counter?
- Can it be done through Mobile Odin without keeping root? Will using Mobile Odin to update my firmware wipe my phone?
Thanks for your patience with me, guys.
You wanna send phone for warranty ?
If no then forget about counter and flash latest stock firmware.
And flashing stock rom via odin won't delete anything.

Awesome, one last thing, if I used ExynosAbuse to root (the exploit which this update patches), and I use Mobile Odin's "EverRoot" feature, do you think it will still work? Thanks
Yeah but mobile odin can't flash tar images. You gotta flash via pc odin.
Then can root via cf auto root.

Not done downloading the latest stock image from sammobile but it downloads as a zip. Is this a flashable zip or is it a zip containing the tar file? If it is flashable, I can just use mobile odin, right?
[edit] it was mentioned that Mobile Odin does not support .tar.md5 files. It says that it does in the description?
It contains *.tar.md5
It isn't flushable via mobile Odin.
Only pc Odin.
Make sure your version is dll7 or ubdll3

Mobile Odin can be set to inject root while flashing - but ...
If you are pre 4.12 and need to fix the SDS problem then apparently Mobile Odin doesn't flash the boot which is needed.
So if you are pre 4.12 and need the protection from SDS, then just flash and re-root it with CF Autoroot (takes about 5 minutes)
Or look at my signature download that prerooted rom OR our beloved dr.ketans prerooted rom x)
Ive used his guide to make a prerooted rom. U will gain root access + warranty

Mobile Odin is an app created by Chainfire , it's in the Play Store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&feature=search_result
It allows you to flash directly on your device without a PC. It flashes from the SD Card directly.
One of the features it includes is "Everroot". This injects root directly into any new firmware that you flash.
I'm finding it difficult to simply find a tutorial to relock the bootloader for my sgh-i317. I've failed several times to update to 4.3 but read since my phone is rooted I need to relock/flash to stock and try again. I understand I can use Odin which I did to root but I'm new to this and don't know where to find the appropriate file so I can attempt to update via OTA. Any help is appreciated...

This will erase EVERYTHING on your phone so use kies to back up messages, pics, etc BEFORE you begin!!
Go to sammobile and dl the stock firmware then dl this.
Have $3 on your google play account for triangleaway.
Then follow these steps
1.flash the stock firmware with odin
2. flash chainfire autoroot and update supersu in the play store
3. purchase and install triangle away (pay for it and support these awesome developers, dont be that guy), run counter reset and reboot
4. in supersu unroot
5.boot into stock recovery and factory reset and wipe cache and delvik cache and reboot.
6. on you phone go to settings>about phone> software update and run the ota update.
That should do it as you have gone completely back to stock, reset your counter and have stock recovery. This is what i had to do to get the ota to 4.3 yesterday/
