Broken screens - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

So starting my car monday morning I destroyed my screen. Why? My original note took a massive beating and never had a problem! Fell out a second story window, kicked across pavement, fell out of a semi to pavement and I accidentally jumped on top of it after. Not a problem. Best phone ever! Note2 barely falls to snow and is now in shambles. I need to find a cheap replacement screen as soon as possible. Any solutions?

I don't have a solution but the screen is definitely the best. My note 2 fell out of my hoodie pocket literally 6 inches above my driveway and the dang thing cracked on the corner.

Were you running the phone naked? No case or SP?
I hope I don't mess mine up.. Because then I know I'd be sitting there replacing it myself.

Yeap totally naked. I am going to do the replacement myself but refuse to pay $200 for a screen. I just bought my phone out right 30days ago. Never thought warranty was needed since my note was so rock solid

My wife cracked her screen last week. I had warranty. $199 deductible, since it's a high end phone.
I tried replacing my screen on my Atrix 2, massive fail, so I didn't even attempt on the Note 2.

bummer...:crying:
glad it wasn't my phone.

I attemped to change my screen as well and failed miserably had to get replacement

Its really not that hard. The glass is not the digitizer (touch screen) and all you need is a heat gun, box cutter with the expandable blade and patience. Just heat and pry up just slightly and use constant heat so it comes off right away and not to long in one spot just enough to keep it warm where its bareable to hold in hand. I just did mine for the first time it was easier than an iphone.
Those YouTube videos make it look hectic. I mean if your gonna do a insurance claim might as well try. Screen cost around $18. Also you can add those 3rd party insurance company on now with a receipt within 30 days or make one if you dont have one. Square trade worked for my s2.
Good luck!

Horror story.
I broke mine last week when I put pressure onto it onto thr corner of a cabinet. Took it back to tue warranty center and got a refurbished one for 150.
This week, walked to class, ans somehow managed to shatter my screen. AGAIN.
I didnt pay for the newest one, of course.

I would cry no joke, but I do have a case on my phone and also I take really good care of it, just like if it was my kid.

To me my phone is a disposable piece of tech. Sadly though, the cracked screen is annoying and a replacement piece of glass is cheaper then a whole new phone. I just wish this screen was as durable as my original note *sigh* kinda wish I didnt sell it a couple weeks sooner

I use Square Trade for insurance.. $99 for 2 years of coverage and a $99 deductible.
The only bummer with Square Trade is they dont cover lost or stolen.

So I guessing that Square is just for damages, and broken screens? That's pretty cool. Lost or stolen $4.99mo from AT&T!! Going to pass this on to a few of my friends that don't like cases. Which is stupid in my book, not to cover your phone. It will drop eventually!

How did this happen ?
Sprint will not fix a broken screen in a repair store, unless the tech wants to do it which is rare, has to go thru Asurion, which more than likely is going to be your cheapest option anyhow
$100 bucks aint bad when you considder the phone retails for $600 or so

This isn't your phone, and you said you found it in your driveway. Chances are if someone lost it, most likely they reported it lost.

The screen protector rocks it was easy to install compared to any other I've done and screwed up! At first there where a few spots that I was sceptical about but they have worked them selves out over the last 2 hours(adhesive had to dry) I would really say this is a superior product. I'm really glad I waited. The screen felt hard to move your finger across at first now it is as smooth as butter. Its really hard to tell there is even a screen protector on the phone it is very clear. My only complaint is that other does hold finger prints. I love it I give it 5 stars!!!

I agree the protector felt "sticky" for the first day or so. I was worried that would be permanent. Now, as you say, it's smooth as butter. While it does hold fingerprints, I find it easy to clean. I'm pleased with mine.
My only problem has been the curves, as you would expect. While this is MUCH better than anything else I have tried, there just does not seem to be enough "stick" at the edges and the air keeps creeping in. Having said that, it's not getting as far as the screens active area.
I'll give it 8/10. Most only get 6 or lower.
Martin Fields have been my 9/10s in the past but they have really dropped the ball with the SGS3.. They are barely 5/10s on the SGS3.
Thia is an awesome screen protector. Used both sp on original phone and the replacement and it took one try each. Im usually one who ends up ruining 2/3 protectors and going into mad rage and making up curses....but this was so easy and looks like its not even there. If your squegee the outer layer too much u will get more orange peel effect than not so try to take the bubbles out in least amt of scrapes...but it won't be noticable unless you're looking for it and when the screen is off which is no biggie. Clear as hell and so nice...sgp screen protectors win again....this is my second phone with it. And I am pleased
Go order one:thumbup:

Intentionally break phone

Has anybody intentionally destroyed their phone to get a refurbished one with little time left on their warranty? I want to know if there is a way I can successfully get a replacement from Sprint. My screen is in pretty rough shape, and based on what I've read, they won't replace it soley on a broken screen. (no digitizer damage) I know it's a bit underhanded, but I'm sure as hell not spending $270 on a screen replacement! Thanks in advance!

The screen replacement is only like 178.50 with next day shipping there and back from samsung. And how are you almost out of warranty when the phone hasnt even been available for a year and you have a 1 year mfg warranty.

Sprint won't help you at all since it sounds like you don't have TEP(they don't help anyway). And Samsung only covers manufacture defects and hardware defects. If the phone has physical damage then your warranty is voided with them

Samsung repairs busted screens under warrant its just not free, but it is about half the cost it would be out of warranty. Its not a bad deal since they replace the entire glass/digitzer/lcd assembly and then reinstate your warranty afterwards:thumbup: and its next day shipping there and back so you're only without your device for 3-5 days max. Typical turn around is 3 days, day you ship, day they receive, day they ship back. However if they are backed up sometimes they have it in their possession for a couple days while they do the repairs

I'm an old iPhone user and I know with the iPhone if you cracked your screen, you could buy a replacement kit and spend no more than $50 bucks or so. Is there no replacement screens for the Galaxy S3?
There are, but the glass is fused to the display, making it extremely difficult to replace just the glass.

Otterbox fail (broken screen 4 no reason)

The silicon in this case is way too pliable... it actually was pushed put of the way & the screen touched the ground, cracking.
Newer commuter cases for the s3 have silicon of a much harder makeup, so this isn't an issue. The silicon won't move or stretch with age.
I have filed a complaint with otterbox. This is ridiculous. For a company who claims to be so awesome, they better be sending me a free case or money to fix my screen.
Guess I'll be going caseless for a while, seeing as how the commuter didn't do anything except take up space in my pocket and enlarge my phone.

That's why I'm part of the "scared users" that doesn't drop the phone on the ground even if it costs our lifes. The Nexus screen isn't THAT resistant. I like the oleophobic glass a lot, but it's resistance is a shame.
Actually, what makes the screen fingerprint resistant is just a coating (namely, the oleophobic coating). Shouldn't have to do with its strengthness or anything.
The galaxy nexus has fortified glass. People don't seem to understand that this device was not engineered to survive drops. Sure it may survive one or two drops buts that just luck. There are devices designed to survive drops.

That sucks man, I'd be pissed too. I'm not surprised though. I bought my gnex on eBay and it came with an otterbox case.I only used it for a bit before getting a trident aegis. Not as slippery, and better reinforced silicon corners. It s not perfect, but I think the protection/design is superior to otterbox.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Tonight I dreamed I had broken my Gnex screen! First time I did when I woke up was look at the phone, I was scared! I already broke my previous SGS II screen and that gave me head aches.
I've never dropped my device when it was my own fault. It usually is because I'm horsing around with friends and it drops but that's happened once and it landed on carpet.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I sent photos of the case to otterbox, and they deemed it defective and are sending me a new commuter case.
This dowsnt fix the busted screen, which has gotten worse and now effects the entire front of the device, however I'm happy with otter box for honoring their warranty.
I'll look into paying to fix the screen after the case shows up.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. I'm currently using my backup device just for kicks. The busted screen on the gnex makes me so sad lol. I'll get sick of the sgs2 after a few days and pry resume using the gnex.
The kicker is that otterbox is sending me a new case in the mail too. I don't really see the point of using a case now that the screen is already messed up.

No problem, but if you find something interesting never think you are the first to find it. XDA is a very fast community hehe. So search in every case unless you are sure.

Yea... i'm REALLY tempted to order one.... but even with the 10% off coupon code for signing up for their newsletter, it's still $70 with FedEx Ground shipping (which happens to be $12). I don't see how shipping can remotely cost that much. Or at least offer USPS shipping or something for in the US....
why do all the cool cases come out right before the phones about to be outdated... I'm sure we can expect the s4 to be announced early next month.. I wouldn't spend 70 for a case for a phone ill have another 2 months, but I would for one ill have for the next 12...

Not planning to get rid of my GS3...Some people have a 2 year plan.
Nokia 3650>Nokia 3660>Nokia 6630>SE W800>SE W810>SE K790>Nokia N95-1>Nokia N95-3>Nokia N95-4 8gb>iPhone 3G>iPhone 3GS>iPhone 4>GS Capitvate>Galaxy S2 i9100>Note N7000 32gb> Galaxy S 3 i747M 32gb
Love the look of that thing. I will definitely look into getting it if there is a sale.
And the GS3 will not go out of date anytime soon. Development will continue for quit some time with how large of a user-base it has

I love the mentality that if a new phone comes out the previous version is immediately outdated. I'm pretty sure I'll have my s3 for at least another year and a half if not longer, not everybody jumps on the "brand new phone" bandwagon.
I like this version a lot better than the first release but I'm still holding out to see what lifeproof's s3 case looks like.
That is way too expensive, plenty of good cases for less than $20. CNET just did a review on about 20 or so good cheap cases for the S3.

These people must be on crack if they think I'm paying $70 for a case. Yet most consumers need to learn how not to be zombie/robot ready and willing to pay $70 for some recycled aluminum and plastic! Yeah I know some R&D on a computer that took too long as to make sure the designers and "engineers" get payed by the hour.
