[Failure] Battery voltage meter defect - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did not see a thread about this in Wildfire forums so the it is.
Votlage meter failure.
In the begning of the failure process I noticed it was verry had to charge the battery to light up green led. Then after a week it stopped loading to 100% and always loads to 79%.If I reboot it I can get it to 92% phone reads 4.07V but than it drops to 79%(4.04V) is a few minutes even though mains charger is connected and charging. This is happenig on new and used original HTC 1300mAh batteries.
Checked this in fully functional wildy and no problem with both batteries. On digital mAh meter/charger 4 year old Htc battery shows only 3% drop in capacity! Amazing.
Is there a fix to that? Where is this Voltage meter is it a single chip or it is bulit in some bigger chip? Maybe it could be easly replaced?
If it can't be fixed the device is foobared. It is to annoying to charge it twice a day,and it will destroy a good battery.
I see Desire Z suffer same problem.
HTC using crappy components?

I have been having the same problem! I guess you have to get the new battery! I dont think there is a fix...=(

Thanks for clearing that up, I've been saying this problem was a mobo fault for months but not many people listen and still waste there time pointlessly wiping battery stats and trying new batteries.
If I had a pound for every time I've said it, I'd be a very rich man by now.

Didn't you read what I wrote. Test was done on new original battery.
No fix huh. Replacing some failed component would fix it. The problem is which one to replace

When u reboot your phone, the battery state is faked, this is different for dif roms.
Then it steeply decreases with usage, obviously it should since there isnt that much battery. That file can be found in root partitions I dont rememver exactly.
For my rom, I charge to 60% and reboot, I get 99%
So long as the charge lasts a day or two depending on usage, all's okay!

Correct way to cycle the EVO battery?

Hi can anyone tell me the correct way I should go about charging the EVO when I first get it? I'm getting it tomorrow and want to break the battery in the right way (if there is a right way), let me know!
I don't see how you should go about it in a special way different than every other phone
It's a LiIon battery as all of them, none basicaly needs to be cycled to work efficiently.
Or was this your own way to broadcast that you're getting the device tomorrow to let the rest of us drool in envy?
I definatly will say that the first few charges of the battery do NOT last long at all, battery drains REALLY fast.
This may be placebo, as I know that Android will get more efficient as the OS "settles down"
I always make sure to let it run until the device shuts off by itself before charging. Then charge to full and repeat. I try to do this 5 times, but it helps that I have a hero I can drain with, then charge and always have a full battery in my Evo.

so completely drain it then charge, drain, charge, etc?
lithium ion batteries do not need conditioned ... and actually prefer to be charged frequently (or so I have read). Just do a google search for lithium ion conditioning and almost every reference says that only the older technologies need it.
It's actually the phone that needs to learn the batteries fully charged to fully drained levels. A couple of full charge-drain cycles teaches the battery meter in the phone. Same deal for notebook computer batteries.

* Not sure if this applies to the battery in the EVO as I have never taken one apart yet ***
From what I recall most notebook (if not all) Lithium * batteries have an integrated charging / safety chip on the battery http://www.sbs-forum.org/ that maintains information about the battery level (via SMbus) and charge information. It is this chip that will report the current battery level and will disallow you to charge a battery at a certain point due to safety concerns.
What is common though is that it takes a couple of cycles for the onboard / outboard battery chip to learn the charge level which the host OS will just blindly read for the most part.
condition your battery
When you have a new cell phone battery there is a residual charge left from manufacturing..it may even say it is fully charged but it is a false reading. You need to charge the battery before you start using it for 8-12 hours. Then, use it down to about 25% and charge for another 8-12 hours. Repeat this process for the first 3-5 charges and then your battery will be conditioned.
After the initial conditioning your battery will last the longest if you do not let it run out until it dies. It is best to charge when at 25%-30% capacity.
Good luck!

Wow. First off, thanks for resurrecting a thread that's over a year old.
Second, your post is completely wrong. Lithium ion batteries do not need to be conditioned at all. Just plug it in, let it charge, and you are good to go.

Says who? Lithium ion batteries do not need any conditioning.
Really cuz It took a month for my battery to get 36+ he's because I didn't charge it right ( i use sbc) when I got and with my 3d I get 24+ hrs due to battery conditioning. Say what you will my girl does the same with her iPhone and get 2 1/2 days out of it while another friend of mine didn't and her battery is dead after twelve hours... no dis respect dog but it works contrary to beliefs

Conditioning works for unknown reasons. Not for the reasons, most people say. And its true lithium ion don't have memory any more so its not nearly as effective to condition. Also where are you getting those results? Those are f***ing insane

Results for the Evo? I use a 2600 mah sprint battery and when I use an eBay battery 3500 mah I get 14hrs max ( weird but it was only $15 for 2)... gonna try seidio next and see how they work... and w the 3d I ( also the 4g) I charge til green then unplug and plug til green ten times as suggested by xda thread that was on miui website only

Use the search please..calibration methods are tried and true..nothing more to see here..let this thread die as the other poster indicated.
Search for battery calibration. I would copy and past the url's for you but I literally found 10+ threads about calibration methods for the EVO within seconds so it will be super easy for you to read one of the methods and apply for what we now see as perfect results.
As far as I know now, nobody complains about EVO battery life anymore unless they are using something to drain the power, bad coded app, kernel or poorly coded ROM etc. It happens sometimes but usually enough information out there to support fixing the issues once you see them.
Hope that helps and good luck..

Wrong Battery Status

Hi
my wildfire can't charge more than 5% i know it is not battery fault because i have used two different batteries.
i wiped my battery 5 times i wiped everything a changed my Rom Changed my kernel.i am using CM7.
i read this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11803458&postcount=10
but it is for Motorolla and when i pull out battery my phone turns off immediately.
i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597846 but it didn't work for me.
i tried to restore my phone to official rom with RUU but i can't because it says that your battery must be more than 30% so i don't know how to do that thank you everyone please guide me?
Try installing battery caliberation from play storeand follow the instructions given in the app. It might help.

i think it's software problem not hardware because i changed the battery with another battery which was used in another phone and it was full but in my phone the battery status was 11% when i put it again to another willy it was 95%.
It doesn't charge after 5% or it doesn't show more than 5% battery? Huge difference between the 2

Exactly. And if it is like that, then use the calibration tool while your phone it on charge.
Again asking for clarifying....is you phone not charging beyond some % or is your phone not showing the charge beyond some %
?
I am having a similar problem but mine doesn't charge beyond 75-80% depending upon when I have plugged it for charging.
If I start charging at say 50%+ it charges beyond 80% but does not fully charge, and if I start at say <40% it does not go beyond 74%.
Now at this level if I restart my willy the battery shows 90+% and I can charge it to 100%.
I have tried everything wiping the battery stats, using the calibration tool nothing's really working. I doubt when I used a Samsung charger for charging that's where the electrical circuit might have got damaged or may be when when I dropped it from 4-5ft.
Since I have already rooted it I don't think HTC service center will help me here with motherboard or electrical changes.
If you guys know any method lease let me know and btw it's >1.5 yr old battery.
Thanks

can you explain more?shall i charge it then remove battery and then start charging again and again?i could reach to 42% woooow but not 100%.
can anyone change the codes of battery by making a flashable patch for just showing 100% of battery(not real status) i need this for calibrating my battery.but batterystats.bin wasn't useful
This issue may have been solved, but I'll post anyway.
You can calibrate your battery when it's lower than 100% using the app mentioned above. There is an option within the app to calibrate it regardless of battery percentage, just click that option then calibrate.
Hope it helps,
Francis.

[Q] My battery can't last more than 5 hours - is it normal?

Since I bought it, my phone has had a major battery problem. It can't last more than 5 hours on without requiring a recharge. I've tried wiping stats, battery savers, uninstalling apps, even a new ROM. Is it normal?
i think it isn't a problem. because my battery can't last more than 10 minutes
Both of you need fresh new batteries to replace your current ones which are near the end of the life cycle.
Yup....same answer as the above
I got a new battery two weeks ago because I had the same problem, It started dieing.....I changed it when I noticed it only stays for an hour!

Yes. I had the battery died before. Difficult to charge and turn off randomly. And the battery actually become "bloated" waiting to explode.

[Q] One X Battery Re-Calibration

Hi XDA,
I am pretty noob at forum posting so no hate
As we all know, the One X does not have a great battery, but, it enough to get a whole day, recently my battery starting playing up, Id have 20% left, and it would just keep turning off, as if it had no battery, I full charge it, and that seem to not occur again, Id listen to music for 20 minutes and Id loose about 8% charge, Im not using headphones, just earphones, now, im loosing 15-20% battery, id also loose battery with it in sleep, firstly I tried to wipe battery stats in CWM, and I loose 2% just from that!
All of that within a week, except for the 20% turn off thing.
It also seems to be a little warm around the camera, and a bit more below the camera.
Ive tried recalibrating using Battery Recalibration (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en)
Ive tried full charging after a full drain.
Nothing seems to be working.
Im running:
Rom - Viper 3.3.4
Kernel - The Viper Provided boot.img
Hboot - 1.36.0000
Any help is much appreciated
Ill provide what ever you want to see (screenshots etc)
Thanks
Re-calibrating battery doesn't do anything for battery life. It's a myth. Read up on that. Maybe your battery has become old, or overheated at some point and is now malfunctioning. Too much heat is bad for batteries and overheating has killed one of my Desire HD batteries too. They expand at the middle and also lose their capacity quite a bit i.e. they discharge faster.

Okay, That might be the issue, Thanks
Full Draining your battery is a bad idea..
As the One X has a Lithium Ion battery
and they dont like to be discharged very low

[Q] Battery Health and Charge

Got a problem with my battery I think, the phone switches off even if it's showing 60 or 50 or what ever charge. Once the comes back on it shows zero battery. So plug it in and start charging but if I wait till it's on 2-3% and unplug the charger and leave it the battery indicator goes up instead of down! lol
So I thought it might be a calibration issue so downloaded Battery Calibration app and it's showing "Current Charge: 100%, 4mV" shouldn't the mV figure be in the thousands?????
IS there a app that will show Current charge Level, Designed Level and what the max level is now ???? Like on most laptops?
Thanks

Na battery is normal. I have had it for 2yrs now and flash a new ROM every couple of weeks lol
Will fully charge it and check the battery graphs and post back later/tomorrow.
Thx for the replys
The phone switched off (was around the 50% mark) and i couldn't switch back on until i plugged AC in.
Once plugged in it showed zero but after a second shot up to 50%+, and doesn't take long to hit 80% or so.
On further inspection it does look like battery is becoming bloated. Upgrading end of the month so will live with it then sell it to O2 recycling for £30

My SGW is about that old, but I´m having here 4 batteries flying around. The one that was used regulary for about 11 months is already pregnant and not in use anymore, though it´s still working good, so now using another one regulary and the other ones are used as reserve.

Like said 2 years for such a battery is a really long time, so no wounder it get´s bloated and needs to be replaced. Just wounder O2 will pay you 30 pounds for this battery. For this money you can buy 3 new batteries
