http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/03/20/new-software-6-1-c-1-111-certified-for-att-xperia-ion/
From www.xperiablog.net thought this was interesting, and hopeful to those of us who have the ion!
I actually had a notification of an OTA update a few days ago, checked XDA and didn't see anything so I thought it was just a false notification again.

Just another ICS update. I'm not updating fw again until I see a 6.2 version come around.
Yeah, I'm hoping to see a bigger update than this...curious to see what bugs this update will be fixing though..
I just had a conversation with an AT&T rep and she confirmed that AT&T will be releasing Jelly Bean for the ion. She couldn't give me an exact date, but she said to be on the lookout for a couple of weeks or so. I asked her if she knows this for sure, and she said "yes, it's in my documentation for the ion" so...great news, and we shall see.
An unlock would be a nice inclusion since att stopped selling the ion and the year lock is over

probably better off w/o at&t's firmware anyway. I installed the lt28i firmware on my ion and prefer it over at&t's. No bloatware to contend with, and you get android's backup&restore app. The best benefit, however, is that you get yer firmware straight from sony w/o having to deal with at&t.

Firmware without any carrier bloatware is best in general.

It's first update since September, so since 8 months... But why not JB? Really? We must wait 1 year for old update? In May we will see Android 5.0 ... Sony can be proud of his stupidity.

Yes, it still is.
How big was the update? Like in megabytes...

Is it safe to update while having root. Cwm installed and de odexed?

The update was only 3 or 4mbps. And I am rooted but not deodexed, and had no problems.

I looked at my brother's phone, the R800AT, and it had the update notification. I clicked it thinking ICS was here for him, and it checked for about ten minutes and said there is no update. Did anyone else get a notification?

There WILL be. Just not for those with unlocked boot loaders and R800a/at/x users. R800i users must lock the boot loader again before updating.

My guess is that they're going to change the partition layout substantially and they can't do that OTA.

I had a Samsung captivate before rooted and running cyanogen. I made proper use of the hotspot feature. The ion now has it stock but has to be unlocked by att calling 611. I'm not going to pay $60/m for a low tethering plan and lose my grandfathered unlimited plan.
Does anyone know of a workaround or is this going to be a root required thing?
Gloff
There might be some apps that you can use without rooting to tether like pdanet (haven't tried myself) but to use the built in feature will require rooting and some system changes.
Sent from my LT28at using Tapatalk 2
I thought that might be the case. If I can dig up some modem drivers I should be able to do a dial up connection through Windows.
Wow AT & T really are rubbish. I really annoys me when operators neuter the phone to make a quick pound....
If we can get the LT28i firmware we should be able to use it on our ions and it will allow the built in tethering though it might require changes to the APN. I'm trying to get that firmware from international users.
I have already provided a copy. It is in a thread in QA section of xperia S (back in the day when there was no ion forum) called xperia ion development status

With regards to what? We can flash the rogers or generic firmware just fine on our AT&T ions. The generic will allow us to use tethering without issue. Not sure on the rogers one.
Waiting for ICS so we can try some if the tricks the xperia s is using to root with a locked bootloader. Still no dice on creating a prerooted system image. But again that only works with an unlocked bootloader.

So I called Sony about the issues I've been having with my phone and the woman I spoke to said the Ion had a 4.0 update and to check the SUS. My computer can't run the program correctly so I can't confirm but I thought I'd let you guys know since it came from Sony themselves.

The reason this thread isn't full up of roms and deveolpers and topics is two reasons.
1) the phone is pretty new and it's a Sony and from the few devs. I've read about they don't like Sony lol.
2) the bootloader is locked, what that means is ( person with knowledge insert brain mater here) and so most of the things you see on other phones like the Samsung gs2 which has so many roms you won't really see here until the bootloader is unlocked and full access to the phone is avalible.
Is all this information right? I think so its what I've gathered from xda in the threads. This is my second Android phone I just traded my i777 in so I'm not use to each phone being different. I had iPhones before these two and each phones steps to flash a custom iOS was the same basically. So this bootloader stuff and it being really hard to unlock is new to me. So don't take what I've said as the facts. Its just what reading and little knowladge of Android got me.

CM, AOKP will be branched for ion. Sources are only a few weeks old.
Watch the Xperia S, the ION &S are same but screen size.
Patients is a virtue
I have tried to compile stock kernel myself but there are 'BUGs ' in the sources from Sony. Have to work it through

Yeah, and using the US (att) version will probably mean the lose of tethering. Not a big deal probably for some, I never use it BUT I want the option to not use it, lol.
Once .233 is flashed and set, you'll never know if was Chinese firmware.
Successfully deodexed the LT28h Ics Rom.
Uploding it. Will be useful for creating mods and custom roms.

Probably no LTE, but where I am I get faster speeds through WIFI. Which sucks since I have unlimited data and not enough speed to enjoy it.

You should be able to flash the I or AT radios with out a issue. We initially flashed the AT GB radio to the H ICS so I would think it still works.

WiFi is always faster than LTE right now. I mean 802.11n does around 150mbps, and if you have cable that's probably more than 50mbps.. 1 gbps if you're on fiber . Anyway, I don't think ever goes over 30mbps at the moment, so it makes sense that WiFi is faster.

Doesn't say anything about a delay just that the ion FW is to follow the S and those other devices which was always the case.
Yea the Ion is not delayed but more seems like they are waiting as to not overload the servers. The S and SL are older and I would think allot more where sold than the Ion so makes sense to roll it first. I would expect to see the Ion update go live on Monday but hey maybe sooner who knows. But we do know its finally happening so yeah for that.
