Sandisk admits to faults with Mobile ultra SD cards - Galaxy S III Accessories

Just a quick heads up on the following story, I have been suffering the regularly remounting sd card and have contacted Sandisk for an RMA, the catch being you've got to return the card to the Czech republic at your own expense!
BTW to get an RMA you need the serial number off the card, if like me you can't read it without the help of a microscope just take a picture and zoom in, I know only common sense but took me a while to hit upon it.

I have one of these SanDisk Ultra 32GB Class 10, and yesterday I noticed it doing few rescan media for errors, but today it stopped, is it dying ??? Any page to check if my card is among those suffering from the issue? like serial check?
in the mean time, I am making a backup, just to be on the same side.

No idea how to check or how widespread the issue is, I suspect Sandisk are down playing the number of cards affected.

I went to their sites support chat yesterday. Mine has been throwing an error off and on since I got it. Took a little bit but they were helpful and did an immediate RMA.
The person I spoke to asked for a list of info, serial on back of card was one. Weren't too concerned as I told her I could barely see them.
Emailed me a UPS label while I was in the chat. I'll say it was worth the 20 minutes.

I'd say. Just returned mine to seller on play who says he'll replace it. Just wondering when the fix was implemented, am I going to get another dodgy card?

Same issue with mine. Just awaiting an rma number. I will be buying a Samsung replacement.

According to an article it was "a limited run". Not sure what that means.
Since they were easy to deal with and offered to replace it I'm going to give it another shot.
If this one fails I'll look at other cards.

They are really suck on customer service. I had this same issue at the end of last year, asked for RMA on January 2013, and they got it in the first week, and then it took them about a month to replace it. And the customer support are overseas, India, and everyone will give you his/her word about solving the problem, ecpeically the supervisors, big fat liars. Oh boy, it was a really pain till I got it replaced.

No problem here last time I RMA'd a card, the real headache was having to pay the postage but jfcooley got prepaid postage so no biggie there.
My personal thoughts on what maybe up with the cards is that maybe they deviate from SDHC specification, and that samsung devices are relying on spec being followed hence are more sensitive? It'd certainly explain why they where so happy to fix and replace them, Just my thoughts.

I plan on sending off tomorrow. The email I got said 7-10 days after they received it. I'll try and post actual and results with new card.
Meanwhile my no name class 4 32gb is holding up well. Slower...but this is why I kept it around.

Can you please write the model number of the one you are RMAing? so that we might have a list of models that might suffer from the issue (the code above the barcode)
mine is: SDSDQU-032G-U46A, bought from Amazon Italy
still ok, only for 1 day it gave random Checking for errors, never again.

These are the numbers I gave off back of card.
32gb Ultra HC1 from Newegg.

have the same problem , in my country Sandisk doesnt know nothing about this problem
what can i do ?

Same card and had the same thing start to happen. More frequent errors over a few days then phone said card was removed unexpectedly. Dead. Nothing left, in a pc or anything.
SanDisk replaced it no problems. Very quick turn around

I have the 64gb microSDXC from Team and never had any issues.

This is for SanDisk, not for Team

Sandisk sent me an rma number with no return address. Now I have another email saying my replacement will be posted today??? So perhaps I haven't got to send mine back.

I have had this card for over a year with not a single issue.

Did you read the title of the thread? This is about SANDISK cards having issues. I myself had to send my 32GB Sandisk class 10 card after 3 months of use, dying suddenly, to Sandisk and they replaced it FOC.
DOnt mess up the thread by saying your XYZ card is fine, it's SANDISK issue.

Anyone tried one from this seller? Too good to be true at £28?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/32GB-MICRO-SD...MemoryCards&hash=item23087eef4f#ht_649wt_1137
Just bought one last week from ErwinComp, put it in my Tilt2 Friday PM. Works just fine.
wow...i hope this thread takes off, as i will be following this one intently...i hope it's true...i have just about maxed my 16gb kingston with music and i want to add movies...
i read somewhere that the 32gb would not work, so i hope that statement can be disproved...

I notice that Erwincomp are around the $150 mark, whereas the eBay seller was around $40. Must the eBay ones (there's more than one) be a complete fake??
the british listings wont ship to america but theres alot from china (charinging in aud $) that ship to america. i bought one for about $26 (usd). ill let you know if its the real deal.
yall are very braves souls...im too scared to try a cheap-o card...
well, they are labeled as sandisk cards, which are not cheap-o. they are the inventors of transflash which is the first name of microsd. ebay canceled my purchase saying its probably someone who just wants my money and wont give me the storage card. paypal contacted my bank and told them not to move any money. its no loss i guess but i was looking forward to finally having a 32gb card even though i most likely would have never gotten it. i had skipped buying a 16gb card hoping soon a 32gb card would come out and i waited forever and 8gb isnt doing it. i got the 8gb card free with my touch pro. will i ever have a 32gb card?
I just tried my luck on one of these and it was a mistake:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230496569920
The card looked fine, so I copied about 16Gb of data to it (on a Windows machine). When I put the card into the phone most of the files weren't visible. I then put the card back into the PC and they were invisible there as well.
Looks like these are fakes - oh well, let's see how I get on getting a refund....
i did buy one. ebay had canceled the account and bid but payment still went through. apparently it was shipped but i checked the tracking information and it hasnt moved in quite a while so i might just give up. if it comes in, ill let you know if its legit or not. you might want to try reformatting the card. there was a nice hp tool that does it properly. i reformat all new cards, it saves from having problems in the long run.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool.shtml try that.
eBay seller smithadamsmith has Verizon branded sealed Sandisk 32GB microSDHC's (the only sane way to buy any right now) for $105 shipped 2 day UPS.
Mine works great in my Tilt 2, speed class 2 not as underspec'd as their 16GB cards, but plenty fast enough for 1.87GB Avatar movies and running Android 2.2 off card directly.
yeah its horrible. my pics and vids were saved to storage card. almost every time i tried to save a video or take a pic it would freeze up. it was a no name so i cant speak for the sandisk but im assuming its speed class is just too low
Does anyone know of any good deals for 32Gb cards delivered to the UK? The best I can find is Sandisks on Amazon for £81.
The eBay seller I mentioned above ships internationally.
http://imgur.com/Yoatf&5DBj8 it arrived! and it works. i bought it on ebay, ebay canceled my bid, killed the auction and the seller. but i was charged and it was shipped. 2 and a half weeks later, here it is. it needed a formatting and i tried letting windows do it but i ended up resorting to the hp usb disk wipey tool thingy. but after that it worked perfectly. i was going to just dump my old card on to the new one but i actually went through and deleted old and duplicate cabs, backups, and other crap and got it down from 7.5gb to 2.5gb so i have almost 30gb free.
one thing gives me wonders. the auction and packaging says its a class 2 but the card says class 4. im not really worried though cause it works.

Have you checked that it will take 30Gb of data?
yep. i tried loading a bunch of topgears on it. but i had to stop because it was taking a while and the space never seems to run out. but if i ever have 2 days solid to watch top gear on my phone. ^_^
Filling the card reveals the TRUE capacity of cheap Chinese cards, which too often will register as claimed capacity, UNTIL their actual capacity reached shows deceitful trick with far less available.
I found that I could copy files onto my eBay card without any problems, and the card registered the disk space being used. When I removed the card and re-inserted it most of the files were gone however (although the folders were still there).
I tried reformatting the card but got exactly the same result.

I purchased a 16gb class 10 joyflash or something like that from ebay, it would barely transfer over 3.2mb/s and then it died that same day, my advice don't buy cheap cards.
yea i bought a cheap 32 of ebay from hong kong. fine at first then after 2 gb phone says card blank or unrecognisd format. ill get a 16gig sandisk for 15 quid of amazon at least it will work
all that glitters is not gold, give them a wide birth my friend.
Sounds to cheap 32 gb cards start from £50 there is no way he is making money on them if they are original but I assume fakes cause he gets them cheaper than £18.47
I had a cheap (fake) 8GB Memory Stick Duo for my PSP from eBay, it stored a whomping 10MB!
lol yeah think ill give it a miss, if most people say there no good ill agree, how come 16gb are nicely priced £15+ but 32gb is whooping £50+

Even cards being offered at £50 require an inordinate amount of inquiry.
As an example ~ last week I sent an email to an online retailer named Memorycardzoo.
The retailer is advertising a Sandisk 32GB MicroSD card as being Class 4 for £55.99 (see here).
My inquiry was to confirm this was indeed a Class 4 and not the slower Class 2.
The retailer replied immediately confirming the cards were correct in that they were Class 4.
I then sent a further message informing them that a lot of online retailers were advertising something that clearly was not as stated.
Again they came back very politely and professionally reiterating not to worry the cards were accurately advertised as Class 4.
As such I placed my order for said card.
Today I got back home to find a small package that had the card within.
On opening the package the card is indeed a Sandisk 32GB card BUT it is NOT a Class 4 but the slower Class 2.
I have just sent them an email asking them to explain their actions.
In the meantime I would advise anyone not to deal with Memorycardzoo until I have an answer.
I shall reply here when such reply is received.
Beards.

So you can confirm that you bought and received this card from these people, and that what you received wasn't up to expectations? What was the problem? Was the capacity smaller than advertised? Was it too slow? Was it just a fake, through and through?
I just ordered one before you replied. I wonder if I can cancel an order now!
Not sure if it was these people but same card. worked fine at first 31gb available, stopped working after about 2 gig now nothing will even recognize the card-cant even format it. Make sure you make regular back ups of anything on card, i lost some stuff. Mabey mine was fake i wish you luck-ill never buy cheap hongkong again.
WOW great find, bought one too, half the price of the fake on I bought for 26£ and am getting my money back
they look genuine to me, so i got 1 too, if they come and there not ill request refund lol.
They sold 199 of them with no neg feedback so to me its a good buy

Looking for reliable 64gb micro sd card

Hi. I've been following the threads about 64gb msd cards with interest and, as a new note user, there is one thing that still worries me. Are these cards reliable? I've read so many negative reviews where a card dies after a few weeks/months. People have frequently lost precious data 'cos they got no warning of this (yes, I know you should keep backups). Can those who use them tell me how long you have been using a specific card for? Are Samsung cards more reliable in the long term? Just can't make up my mind whether to risk it and go for the larger capacity. On the other hand, I've also read some similar tales of 32gb cards failing after a very short time...

Thanks for the info! Yeah, that difference in price is a real shocker!!
I live in the UK, though, so can you tell me the product ref of the card, or post a pic of the packaging? Then maybe I could match it up with one on Amazon uk. We don't have a Microcenter in this area.

That's exactly what I'm worried about! Sorry to hear that! Seems there are a lot of faulty cards around and I've read many such comments in reviews on Amazon. Even 32gb cards, which you'd think would be more reliable, maybe. Can you tell me more about the cards I.e, were they both the same product code and bought from the same place? Did you have any trouble replacing the 1st one?

Micro SD Card Warranty

hello guys, my SD Card suddenly stopped working bought it 5 days ago,
Its brand is Kingston 32GB Class 4. Anyway I read about before how GN 2 destroys Non-Samsung card with no specific reason at all,
perhaps Samsung's marketing strategy for you to buy another Samsung product which is their own SD Card. Knowing that I still bought a non-Samsung Micro SD and viola my SD Card unmounted today.
I have a 1 MONTH warranty, 7 days replacement (I still have 2 days for my replacement to end)
Q1: How do I say my Micro SD is broken? will they believe me or they'll suspect me of it being dropped in water or shocked?
Q2: Do I need to mention that GN2 destroys non-Samsung MicroSD?
Thanks guys.

Just ask them for replacement. Dunno about Kingston, but Sandisk does that without much fuzz. You don't have to do anything, they won't suspect anything. They'll most likely ask you to destroy the card and send a photo or something.

Who gives just a 7 day warranty on a card? Where did you buy it? If ebay or the like, are you sure it is a genuine Kingston? Have you tested the card in another phone or a laptop? In any event, just return it and say it doesn't work.
Genuine Kingston cards All come with 12 months return to factory warranty. No matter where you buy it from. Ive brought them from play.com. all have the standard year warranty.

To OP, don't tell them squat! make a copy of receipt and just say its not working. Never used Kingston, but SanDisk has your back from what I here? I never lost a SanDisk not working?
Hello sorry about there,
I meant to say 1 month WARRANTY / 7 DAYS REPLACEMENT.
Bought it on a local mall here in the Philippines,
Most policy of this 3rd world country is 1 month warranty / 7 days replacement.
Anyway moving on,
I'll be going their store later, hopefully they'll replace it.

[Q] SD card doesn't work after sometime, only restart solve the problem

Hello,
I don't know why, it seems that my SD card doesn't work after sometime. I could not update the apps installed in the SD card, i could not save photos to the SD card. After a restart, the SD Works again, until sometime later the problem appears again.
(I used nextapp SDfix to unlock the SD card.)
Does anyone else has the same problem?
Thanks,
Martin
Without any more info on the problem, such as SD card type, size, etc, can't give much info.
Did the SD card work fine and this problem just started up? Does the SD card work in other phones or PCs without the problem? It could be a bootleg card, as I had the same problem with the SD being mounted but not reading or writing any files to it, turned out the 64GB card was actually 7GB and files were being overwritten.
Also, some have had problems with the SD card slot on the G3 and had to have it swapped with another device with the new device not having any problems.

Sorry, I should have given more details.
I don't know which information is the brand, it says "Micro SD, HC" on the SD card. Is "HC" the brand? I bought if from ebay. It was one of the cheapest I could found. Here is the link "ebay[dot]com/itm/151331959313?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649"
The card worked fine. I used the Adapter inserted in a SD card reader, and then copied files to the card. The capacity is 64 GB. The cellphone can also recognize its capacity.
I haven't used in other phones, cause I don't have other phones that can used micro SD card.
the problem just randomly appears. I may work fine for hours or even days. Then I could not save pictures to the SD card. I could not move pictures to the SD card. I could not update apps that were moved to SD card...I could still open those apps, though.
after a reboot, everything will work just fine again.
That's a knockoff brand, a bootleg. More than likely, it is NOT a 64GB card and most likely a 4GB or 7GB card that is programmed to make it "read" as a 64GB card.
The fact that it doesn't have a name or brand is also a giveaway (HC is the class/type of card, though I doubt it is with this card).
To find out exactly what size this card is and if there are any read errors and bad sectors (which there will be), try H2TestW and run the program on your PC with the SD card inserted.
It reads and writes to the whole card and finds out exactly how large it actually is and if, where and how many bad sectors and reads there are on it.
I had the same thing happen to me with two SD cards I bought on eBay. They said they were 64GB Samsung Pro cards, I copied over my files and pics and said it was fine. But the G3 kept having errors, wouldn't see it, pics were showing as corrupted and files were just disappearing. Looked around online, found that program, ran it and saw that my 64GB cards were actually 7GB with numerous bad sectors. Filed a claim with eBay seller, got my money back, bought two Samsung Pro EVO 64GB on Amazaon, ran the same tests, actual 64GB cards, not a single error, never had a problem with them or the G3 again.
I would also open a claim about the eBay seller over a fake item or Not As Described, to get your money back.

You are right!
Here is the result:

But I cannot understand the result. Can you tell me how much capacity it has? 21.590 GB or 7.6 GB?
As soon as I know, I will open a case.
Thanks!
Your card only has 7.6 GByte, as you can see in the results. It said it "tested" 21GB, but notice the next line after the 7.6GB, it says 13.4GB was lost, which means it never existed or was corrupted. That's how those two numbers gave the 21GB result.
And as always, you can hit the "Thanks" button, if need be.

Thanks! I'm new to the forum. I did not know there is a 'Thanks' button.
I tested again. This time, it tested 63+ GB, and the result showed only 7.6 GB again. all the 56+GB were corrupted.
I have opened a case. But the seller replied that 14 days have past, therefore they cannot refund or send me a new one.
I have to respond and point out that the product is a fake one, with only 8GB claiming to have 64GB.
What else can I do? Did you get the refund?
I bought something else that was not satisfying before. The seller asked me to send it back. But I have to pay shipping fee. and the shipping fee was almost about the price of the product. I had to give up...
If I return this, the shipping fee would be just like the price of the SD card. Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks again.

If you bought it on eBay, open a a Resolution Case against them, listing the fact that's it's not as described and defective/broken and a bootleg item.
He'll then have to reply back, asking you to return it or offer a refund. If he wants you to return it, he is suppose to supply the return shipping label, so you don't have to pay to return it.
If he asks for it to be returned AND doesn't send a shipping label, escalate it to Customer Support, saying again what the problem is and there is no shipping label to return it and that's it a fake.
CS will then issue you a S&H label (and charge it to the seller) or, if they believe it is a bootleg item, issue you a refund and have you destroy the card and possibly supply evidence of its destruction.
I had to go through the same thing with the SD cards I got, the seller wouldn't respond till I opened a case, then said he'll send a replacement, which I didn't ask nor want, just my refund. CSR said the seller is to supply a S&H label, if not, for me to escalate and CSR would issue a label or issue a refund.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.
I might just also say, as he's sold over 1,500 of them, you wouldn't be the only one out there having this problem... I'd get onto opening a case against him ASAP, and make sure to tell eBay that he's sold over 1,500 defective cards, they'll get real mad at him for that. Make sure you supply the evidence from the program scanning the card to prove it really is only a 7GB card. If he's sold 1.5k "64gb" cards and they aren't really 64GB (which they aren't) then chances are eBay would remove his account.
TL;DR: You're not the only one affected, tell eBay and provide proof that he's selling fake cards to thousands of people.
Thanks a lot, JustLok and iDefalt. Your suggestions have been very helpful!
I have been contacting with the seller.
The seller did not want to pay the shipping fee.
I have replied to him that if he insists not paying, I will escalate it to the Customer Support (after 3 business days according to the rule).
At that time I will tell that this product might be a bootleg.
I've tried to be polite to the seller. To start the conversation, I said the product was not as described. I asked the seller if this could be a exception of his products.
He said 14 days have past, therefore, no refund.
Then, I frankly said that the product is a defective one.
He then agreed to refund, and gave me the address.
I asked him to issue a return label. I also offered him an alternative: to avoid paying the shipping fee, just refund to me, and I will destroy the SD card, then send him a picture as a proof.
He said according to the policy, I have to pay.
I then replied that the case is not that the product is good but I dislike it, but the product is defective. I was deceived. Therefore he should pay the shipping fee.
Now I am waiting for his respond.
If he still does not want to pay the shipping fee, I will escalate it to the Customer Support.
I will update it to let you know how it goes.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Just stay on top of him martin.mts, and I forgot to mention you might need to supply pictures of the SD card test results to Customer Support, just as iDefalt mentioned.
I'm pretty sure you're not the only person or buyer to contact him about defective, misleading and bootleg cards, so he probably has a game and system set up to avoid refunds or replacements.

Yeah providing proof of the fact that the card is a bootleg is definitely a good idea :good:

Just an update.
I escalated it to the CS tonight. And after a little time, i received an email, saying that the seller sent me the refund, without asking me to ship back the item.
I don't know what the CS will do after the refund, since I have mentioned the item might be a bootleg, and more buyers might be deceived. And I can ship the micro SD card to them for inspection if they want.
Looks like it is up to the CS now.
If there is any further progress, I will post it here.
Thanks a lot all guys who have helped!

Looks like the CS will not do anything anymore. The case was closed.
Yeah, once you get a full refund for the item, you usually do not need to send the item back and that's the end of the case. You can keep, destroy or discard the SD cards, however you wish.
Also, as with my case, you can go to the original eBay listing and just above the main description area, on the right side, click on "Report item" and then through those options, report it as being a bootleg/defective/counterfeit item.
I did the same with my item and eBay finally pulled the listing down after 2 weeks! Of course, it probably took a few reports for them to do anything about it, but it's still something you can do to try and delist it.
