Downloading music - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Can someone please tell me a legal, easy way how to download music directly on the device (not using a computer)?
It would help get me in my boss's good books. He just got a note2 recently. He is looking for something similar to iTunes, where he can purchase (if necessary) and download music directly on his note2.
P.S. I am surprised I don't see a way how to download music from the Google Play Music app
Cheers,

You cant buy music from Google play in Canada. Not really sure about an alternative to itunes

I've removed the app from my phone, but the included samsung (?) Music hub app. Did that not allow for the purchase of music?

Amazon music or if you go to the music section of the Play Store than it will work.

Like others have said, amazon mp3 will allow you to do it. It's the only legal way I'm aware of to purchase and download actual drm free music files to your phone.

One thing Google needs to improve - Podcast integration

I love ICS, especially for the small things like the Google Music controls on the lock screen (even the secure lock screens). but, it makes their podcast app Listen look even more dated than it already was.
i know there are quality third part podcasting apps, but you guys think Google will touch this soon? Will they add features like speed control, drag-able organization, and quick controls on the lock screen? Or will they finally integrate podcasts into Google Music?
Anyone have any insight?
As far as I can tell, Listen is dead. A good replacement which I use is Pocket Casts. It's well worth the low price.
BeyondPod has my vote for best podcast Manager.
I just have it use my Google Reader feeds to transition from Listen.

Beyond Pod is what I use as well. Not a real polished app but definitely gets the job done. Easy to setup and can automatically download new podcasts and delte old ones from storage.

What makes BeyondPod so much nicer than Listen? I mean i'm open to paying for a great app and such, but Listen has yet to demonstrate any huge flaws that I've felt the need to replace it.
Very curious what has made others dump Listen/pay for a replacement.
i love listen but since labs has been shut down so is further development of listen. i still use it though. im just very used to it.
Just use Pocket Casts best app on the market for podcasts and they have just amazing support team,,,, amazing support team... I can't say it enough.
I do a lot of podcasts and have tried them all, the one that works great for me is dogcather

I got it for free via Amazon's App Store promotion. However I feel bad for getting it for free now. Apparently, Amazon asked them if they wanted to be a part of the Free promotion; Amazon gave them a bunch of numbers about why this would be good for pocket casts, how it would increase sales overall, yadda yadda yadda. Well after the promotion, they obviously had a TON of new users (all of whom did not pay nor did Amazon pay PocketCasts), but they really did not make any money and instead had to find ways to support all these new users. With that said, I probably never would have downloaded (and tried) the App, so while I didn't specifically give them money, I recommend it all the time and encourage users to buy it. I'm super upset that Google cancelled updates/support for Listen but I can at least hope that 3rd party developers such as pocket casts can cash-in.

So sad that Google doesn't support Listen anymore.
I've tried almost every similar app but I always go back to Listen for one reason: no other app lists podcasts by date/time added.
I hate the way some apps place the number of unlistened items next to the podcast's name, forcing you to check every item individually. I just want a single, chronological list.

Listen was abandoned long before Labs was axed. The affiliated Google Groups page was forsaken by the developers 12+ months ago.
This is especially curious since Google Analytics must show how widely used it is.

Poweramp Market Sale

Just saw that poweramp is on sale in the market for $1.99. It's normally $4.99. It's a great app to play music for those that don't have it. There's also a trial version available if you're still unsure about it. Gets my approval though

this was one of the better usic players that I found awhile back. But sadly when I got into Google Music Beta it just no longer was worth it anymore. If the music players could add the option to use Google Music I would most likely start to use some of them again (I hate having to keep music on my phone at all times to just use the music player)

I agree. Im solely using Google Music now, so I opted to not buy PowerAmp, even though I love it. Useless since I dont like storing music on my phone. My entire 50gb music library is on Google Music. If only it could play my Google music somehow, then that would be beast!!!
Is it still on sale? I already own it so I can't see the price. Want to give a heads up to a friend if it still is

I remember that being a massive battery eater. Otherwise totally agree.
Never had it drain my battery any more than any application that streams data while in use. It does use more power than keeping songs on your phone but never was a battery drain on any of my devices. The new software definitely is smoother though.

I had it install apps on my homescreen. What a pain in the ass. Took me a couple of days to find out what the hell was installing apps, they would just appear out of no where. I was also getting ads in the notification bar. This was on my SG2 so maybe something is different with SG3.
haven't seen anyone mention this one yet but I use TinyShark Downloader... it downloads songs in mp3 format from groove shark and works really well. I don't think there are any ads but I use ad free so it might but I don't see them.there's also a version to stream instead of download. the download version is not on the market anymore (due to copyright issues maybe?)

Honestly I think they both suck but if I had to choose between those two it would be Apollo. Google music caches random things I never asked it to and doesn't cache what I want it to. I use doubletwist.

That's not what was asked... apollo or google play or gtfo... I don't like either, but apollo sucks way less than google play music.....
Google play music, just because of the cloud (only on wifi, not 3g) and the default settings are perfect for car audio. I've played with the Apollo just couldn't find anything that makes it stand out from the abundance of music players on the market.

Apollo is garbage, I was just giving another suggestion because they are obviously not the only music apps. Gtfo? Ok
I use Apollo with the Black theme. I can't say I love it, but it plays music and has the "Hold volume UP to skip" feature... which is really all I need (I use Shuffle All while jogging and it's nice being able to skip a song I dont want to hear without needing to even look at my phone). Last time I checked the Volume UP skip didn't work with Play Music.
I do wish Apollo would get an update with more features, neater UI, and do better with album art.

If it's only used for cloud then it's ok. I live out west so when I leave urban areas service its spotty so I have to have music on the phone as well. Google music doesn't cache what I tell it to. It just caches random things so because of that I say it sucks.
Power amp could be good. It has a lot of features but the interface sucks.
you save music for offline mode before you leave the house. Google Music because of the free cloud service.

Syncing music with iTunes

Hi there,
Im planning to buy a new mobile phone, and i dont know which one yet: iphone or one x.
One very important thing is that i can sync my music and playlists from itunes.
Is that possible with the one x?
Is anyone of you making use of it?
Does it work correct?

I don't know, man.... I think the trade off is worth it.
The cool thing about Play Music is that you can pick and choose which music you want on the device and 'pin it' to your device. If you just choose to play the music, it'll cache all of it.
Either way, it's legit and I totally recommend it.

Double twist is pretty buggy. Why don't you wait until Sep 12 to make ur decision. I am not asking you to get the iPhone. Just wait to see what apples got under its sleeve before making ur decision.
Well, it works with HTC Sync!
It's pretty slow, but it works, it even creates the playlists
