My brother has a kindle and side loaded a game that isn't on the kindle store yet (svz2). He's has the data files and the apk. He installed the apk but we can't find where to put the date file. It says to place it in the obb folder. I went into android folder and didn't see an obb, so i created one and put it in to no avail. I was wondering if it went somewhere else on the fire or if its just not gonna work.
This is a first gen kindle that's not rooted.
Ok you need to be rooted and have something like es file explorer with superuser rights to put that data in the correct folder just making a folder will not work

You just have to find the Android/obb folder, and put the folder where the file is in inside it.
Not work i have not the folder obb, in Android

Very sorry, this is a bit of a newbie question. I've updated to revo HD 2.1 and recently put on the power notification widget add on.
It says you can edit the widget.txt file in system/customize.
Well I got there but using root option on estrong yet I cannot see or edit the txt file. I've accepted superuser access etc. Selected Hiapk, didn't see it, selected cryogen and that didn't see anything either..
I also tried atsro and root explorer with no luck.
What file explorer people use to edit root system files?
Thanks for reading.

Why don't you edit the txt file on your pc before flashing the mod? ES file explorer should do fine...
Doh, I think it wad titanium back up causing problems, I reinstalled it and everything looked fine.
Out of curiosity, how do I explore system dir when on pc?
Thanks for quick reply.

Answering to your first post I will recommend ES File Manager too.

You can do it using adb, but you would have to work in the terminal (unless there's a GUI for it I don't know off?)
Regarding your first question: I would recommend Root Explorer, works like a charm

i think that ES file explorer is the best of the explorer
I use ES File Explorer and sometimes AndroZIP for unzipping archives.
Isn't he asking for a file explorer which will let him edit /system/customize/widget.txt?
I think the thread title is misleading.

I downloaded a new boot animation. I'm trying to move it to /system/customize/resourses but es file explorer and Astros say file cannot be moved. I was able to move the original file out. Now I can't even move the original back. In ES I made sure the root explorer and mount file system boxes are checked. I have the permissions checked but still nothing can be moved in.

Does either of those apps have root permissions? Idk cuz I don't use them..but its easy to just use adb to manually push the file
I've never used adv to do this. Is there a how to somewhere?

I'm pretty sure that this app can accomplish what you're trying to do.

It's as if I can move or copy anything onto the SD card but nothing can be moved or copied from it.

Use Root Explorer. So worth the $2. I don't use astro or ES, but if you can't copy or move anything in or from the root directory then / is probably not mounted as r/w. Look for an option while in the root directory that says "mount as r/w"

Yep root explorer is your best option. adb push can be used to, but its command line only.
Well I know what caused me to have this issue but I do not know the details why.
I was running the Mikrunny Odex ROM with the Red theme. I wanted to give the Coredroid theme a try so I installed the theme and this issue started. After many hours of trying to fix this I restored my backup from a couple weeks ago that has the red theme and all is good again. To reduplicate the issue I reinstalled the Coredroid theme and the issue returned.
I use es file explorer and i have no issues moving things to the system folders whenever I want. If its not working you may try to uninstall and reinstall the app and then go to the settings and make sure you check browse as root and mount system as r/w.

I did try this a couple times but still could not get files to move.
Hmm.. have you tried to delete es file explorer from your allowed super user apps and then open es file explorer to give it super user permission again.

Yep, did that too. I think it had something to do with a theme I installed. When I restored a previous backup I could use ES just fine to move the boot animation file.

That's what i was telling myself. However, after restoring my backup, I installed the theme again and once again I could not move files into the system directory or any of it's sub directories.
I am currently using eye candy 3.4 and was wondering if there was a way to get the keyboard sound that is on hashcode's jelly bean ROM ? I like the old-fashioned typewriter sound.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
Yes, you just have to copy some sound files. The keyboard sounds are located in System-->Media-->Audio-->UI. I found the sounds I liked and copied them to my sdcard. Flashed the ROM I wanted to use and then replaced the sound files with the ones I liked. Coping the sound files seems to change their permissions so you will need to correct the permissions after you have copied the files into the UI folder. Reboot and you are done.

Thanks but for some reason I keep getting an error saying that I cannot delete the sounds on the ROM that I am using. I copied the sounds from Hash's ROM and tried to delete the ones from Eyecandy. Am I doing something wrong in the process.
Which file program are you using, I use Root Explorer. To delete system files you need to have R/W access to the files but the default setting is R/O. In Root Explorer there is a square button at the top of the page that switches you between the two. I am not sure how to change the access in other file programs, but I suspect that is what is causing the problem.
P.S. you will also need to have R/W access to change the permissions.

Thanks. I completely forgot about root explorer. Fixed.

I recently updated from CM 10.0 to 10.2
it seems that all my old files are at
/mnt/shell/emulated/
while the new home folder is at
/mnt/shell/emulated/0/
even giving full root access to any app (solid explorer/cm explorer...) I can't open copy or move any of the old files
I'm able to list them and thats it
How do I move the files at the right place?
thanks

Try an other Explorer. Like es or root browser.

+1 for root browser. Not sure if you can pull entire directories via adb?
