Disable Arview in Mails and/or make the silent mode silent - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
my Galaxy Note 2 (with rootet Stock 4.1.2) just embarrassed me during a presentation and it seems it is caused by bugs and or hidden features that I can't find.
What happened:
Prior to the start of a presentation I used the power button of the phone to switch it to silent mode.
As the presentation start was rescheduled I wanted to send my next appointment a note that I might be late by a few minutes.
For this I opened the samsung email app using the S-Pen. When hovering over a mail my note 2 screamed the date, title and abstract of the mail into the room - really great, could only have been worse if it would have been an "enlargment" spammail.
After the presentation I checked the settings:
- Note 2 set to silent mode
- Airview turned of in note 2 settings
- Open up email, hover with the pan and I get shouted at again.
- Checking the volumes I realize that silent does not correspond with silent on all volume levers, the media lever is still at it's previous position (which was all the way up).
- Can't find any airview setting in the mail app itself.
So the questions are:
- Is there any way to turn of the reading of the mail data?
- Is there any way to turn off the media volume (I can't even manually get the volume indicator for media the be stroken through).
- Is there any way to simply disable all sound output prior to a meeting?
Thanks for your answers,
Norbert

Basic Android Notification question

I'm new to Android, coming from WM6.1. I am unable to find info on something I suspect is basic: is there a way to turn off audible notifications, and can I put a shortcut to the setting on a homescreen?
My EVO kept going off last night, seemed like every hour or so, to remind me of someone's birthday. I was too tired to get up and turn if off.
Can I turn those kind of notifications off temp without turning off the ringer?
Maybe someone could point me where to find this info? did a search b4 work but found nothing.
Don't have the Evo in front of me, but I believe if you go to your calendar, click on an event. Go to menu, more, then settings. From there you will have the option about alerts and what not.
Well, yes, thats true. However, that supposes you REMEMBER there is an event coming, which kind of negates the need to put it in your calender in the first place.
With my WinMo 6.1 Fuze I was able to set both the ringer volume and the notification volume separately, simply using the volume rocker on the side of the phone. so every night I would turn the notification volume down and leave the ringer volume alone.
I use quick settings as my default settings from the market for things such as volume and brightness because it allows you to keep it in your notification shade.
if you had that installed you would do as follows >volume control>and then slide the volumes down individually for alerts, ringer, notifications, etc. I think that is what you are trying to do. then you could set it back.

Working mute app for allowing certain numbers

i9300 4.1.2 rooted stock ROM, howevever frozen/uninstalled many system apps.
Currently have app Silent Hours which successfully allows calls through while it has activated mute.
I however want an app which can perform a quick mute, preferably with widget on home screen, while still allowing customized numbers through. Silent hours does have a quick mute function, but it does not allow calls through with this function. So at the moment I have to go into silent hours, choose start time and and end time, what day, then I get what i want. It's just too tedious. Plus I'd like to customize what numbers to let through; it can only allow all calls.
I started looking around and tried some apps, but none of them unmutes when call is made to a S3 it seems:
Mute-o-matic is very fancy with all the features I want, mailed dev, no response.
What I tried:
Custom event in mute o matic, set time from one minute from now and waited for mute. Then made call from number on exceptions list (tried two different cell phones), call is coming through but no sound. Auto-sms reply works.
Calendar event. Again, no ringtone but SMS is working.
Restarted app, restarted phone
Closed all other apps, clearing memory, closing all active services.
Frozen all other similar mute apps.
Custom level to 6
I tried all other relevant apps I could find on play store; all of them failed in unmuting.
I just now gave play another go. Searched all free apps for "Mute", and tried all app with required features.
Mute 'N caller - fails to unmute.
RD Mute - can't put in mute mode via the triggers
perhaps the reason is one of the system apps I removed or my ROM being screwed up some other way, since the apps lists S3 as tested and working. I would however before flashing appreciate if some of you could tell me an app that is working for you!
edit:
Tried out even more apps.
RD Mute - can't put in mute mode via the triggers
Doesn't work at all:
VIP calls https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vision.vipcallseng&hl=sv
mute n call
Selective Silence, neither in silent mode or vibrate https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.selectivesilence&feature=search_result
Settings profile
Followed instructions from http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...pp-lets-you-only-have-certain-calls-ring.html
If post 9 then then phone rings irrespective of number being allowed or not
If post 13 phone does not ring if allowed number, neither in vibration or silent mode.
Partially works:
Auto ring, only if set to vibrate - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.auto.ring&hl=sv
Fully works:
Call filter alarm https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.pezzin.callfilteralarm.free - However it does not have that many options.
Guess I'll use touchwiz blocking mode in the mean time. It's easy to manually trigger, but does not have SMS-text reply and can only be automated on/off between a certain time, which is the same for all days. But I can use silent hours or call filter alarm for that.

Check this app out:
Call Master: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
Call Master Pro Key: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist.key
Been using that for many years now and it's the best call block app out there but it cost money and it's worth it. But you need root on the phone to use it.
And that is the best way to get rid of that annoying callcenter sellers and other idiots that calling you everyday

From the description it doesn't look like this app will make my phone ring if I have it in vibrate/silent mode. I need everything, mail, chat, other notifcations etc, to be silent. The only way the phone should make noise is if alarm goes off or number on whitelist is calling.
edit: just tried it out, naturally it did not unmute. Installed call master -> gave root permission -> new profile -> create new list -> added exception for number -> actions -> added action Filter calls & SMS -> allow.

Silent mode

Hi Guys,
How to activate silent mode in the 5t like we have on Samsung phones? I am able to reduce volume but it cannot be reduced fully. I am looking for complete silent mode+vibration only for calls mode.
Thanks
Does the hardware slider on the left side of the phone help?
The topmost position seems to be doing exactly that, except that alarms will also ring.
Do you want to even get rid of the alarms?
Thread closed,
Looks like we had some Gremlins in the servers again. Please use this thread:

Smartwatch Notifications

I currently own the Samsung Gear S2 Classic smartwatch and was using it successfully with my Pixel 2. Now that I have the Pixel 3, there is one feature I can't seem to get working:
When the Pixel 2 was set to silent (or do not disturb), my watch would still vibrate to let me know when notifications come in. This was great in my work environment as even phone vibrations can be loud in a quiet room.
But now, the Pixel 3 doesn't trigger any vibration on my watch in silent mode. Does anyone know how to get around that?
EDIT:
I now realize that my watch only vibrates when a call comes in, regardless of the phone being in silent mode or not. It won't notify me of any texts, emails, or anything else besides phone calls. Something must be incompatible between the Pixel 3 and Gear S2. I even had to side load an old version of the app because the current one does not show up on the play store when searching from the Pixel 3 (due to incompatibility?)
Did you try to change the setting in the watch itself? Watch usually it's a stand-alone feature. Mine is working just fine so I would say check your watch itself..
There aren't any settings on the watch that would control the watch vibration to stop when the phone is set to silent or DND.
There might be something in the settings for the Pixel 3, but I can't seem to find it. DND and silent mode both trigger vibrations on my watch for the Pixel 2.
Solved! (sort of)
It turns out that my "Reply" app that I use for quick replies to text messages was blocking the notifications from reaching the watch. By disabling it, I am able to get my watch to vibrate when texts come in. However, now I can't send curated replies right from the message pop-up anymore. So I need to figure out which feature I care about more

Notifications not showing up

Hi there
Sometimes when I receive an email the notification will not show up on the phone, that is no sound and no led notification.
However as soon as I press the power button or unlock the screen the notification will pop up.
It is almost as if the device goes to sleep state when screen is turned off.
The emails that I miss at times due to this problem are time sensitive and really important for my work.
Such delays are at times resulting in direct monetary loss.
This was never an issue on my Galaxy Note 3 from which I have upgraded.
Can anyone of you guide and assist me as to which settings need to be changed to get it to work properly.
Many thanks for your time.
I have a simmilar issue here. Some notifications show up normally, like mail and facebook, but other apps only show notifications if i have they are opened.
It's like the system is forcing close those apps.

Still haven't found any solution.
Things I have tried :
1. Going to Power Master > Battery Mode > Balance
Thinking that in other modes it would kill background apps to save power.
2. Went to Power Master > Autostart Manager > Added apps I need notifications to start on system startup.
Apart from the mentioned problem, I see another one.
I opened What's app notification setting and turned Group Notifications off and Message notifications are set to show silently and minimize.
However the app itself changes the setting and forces messages on screen by itself over riding my changes. Have been happening since a long time now no matter how many times I change the settings.
Update if you can find any resolution.
