I am not new to the android / xda community by any means, but I can say that I am either missing something or information is incredibly dis-contiguous. That said, on my older HTC phones I pretty much went through hastle to get them rooted and then just flashed whatever Via recovery.
I have managed to figure out how to get root and flash custom recovery and all that jazz. I also had a custom rom at one point, but I like stock rooted better.
ANYWAY I am on Baseband L900PALJC and Build JRO03C. I keep getting those stupid update notifications and I would like to get updated to the correct Profile / Baseband / Radio / Stock Rom ETC. can someone briefly explain what all needs to be done or point me to a somewhat organized set of valid instructions ? I am currently downloading the newest toolkit.
You're already rooted so you don't need that toolkit. Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148604 and download the odex ROM and the All in One firmware. Flash the firmware which will upgrade that from LJC to MA7. Then flash the odexed ROM. You will be rooted, upgraded to the latest firmware and the latest stock ROM (MA7).

I keep getting the new OTA IMM76I update for my Sprint Galaxy Nexus and every time it downloads & starts to install it just opens up TWRP recovery and nothing happens...
I tried to use the Nexus Toolkit as well and do exactly what it says but get hung up on "waiting for device" after it extracts the files and everything...
I've been searching for 4 hours to try to get this update done because my calls keep dropping...
is it because I have the Franco Kernel installed on a rooted device?
no ROM or anything, just rooted with the Franco Kernel...
I tried like hell to find the stock kernel but couldn't...
DAMN this is aggravating
could someone PLEASE either explain or point to a link where it explains how to deal with this issue?
HATE having a brand new phone and the calls keep dropping....
I know there are "lots of threads on this issue" already but none clearly explain how to fix THIS issue...
please hep me out...thanks in advance.

While the above link is for how to manually install updates, the reasons why an ota update won't install are the same: if you want it to install ota, you need: the stock kernel, stock recovery, stock radio, and stock rom (with no original files missing/modified). Additionally, all of these have to be the same version.
Maybe you could also get the ota update file name for us as well.

does the stock radio stay the same after root?
like I said, all I changed was the kernel...so I'd have to flash the stock kernel to install the update, correct?
another issue I'm having is damn CWM....I have TWRP on here now and when I go to flash CWM through ROM Manager it get all the way to the end, freezes then fails...can't seem to get CWM installed for my life.
also what is all this "yakju, takju, etc..."??
I'm new to this device from an Evo 4G where we just download & flash and all updates work..never had an issue like this.
my device is v4.0.4., build Imm76D.L700FC12
baseband L700.05 V.FC12/L700.FC12
on the bootloader I saw "toro" on there so I'm guessing that's because it hasn't been updated, correct?
thanks.

If all you changed is the kernel, then all you have to do is flash the stock kernel.

would you have the stock kernel?
can't seem to find it...
Try the GN root kit. You'll find it in the dev section. That will get you back on stock kernel.

You need to have stock recovery too.

Unfortunately I do not (I don't own a Sprint device), but I'm sure that it is floating around somewhere.
I have rooted my gs3 and need help. I am on stock rooted 4.0.4 ics. I want to go to the latest pacman rom. What do I need to do?
Have you installed a recovery?
Download GooManager if you want TWRP or ROM Manager if you want CWM recovery.
Either one will allow you to flash a compatible ROM.
I really like TWRP. User interface is easy. Goo.im app makes it easy to find compatible ROMS to flash for your device. I don't know if PACMAN is on goo, tho.

If you are on stock ics you'll most likely need to update your bootloader after you update your recovery if it isn't updated already.
You'll need to go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
This will need to be done before you flash almost any rom that's been updated in the last couple weeks.
You might be up to date but I doubt it.

Definitely go with TWRP. The user interface is much friendlier than CWM. It is also really good from the standpoint of being careful when wiping or installing things with their "slide to ____" feature.
I just rooted my AT&T Galaxy S3
Specs:
Model number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
Android Verson: 4.3
I am trying to install the AOKP Rom for my device. I have it all downloaded and know how to install it but I keep getting Status error 7. What is happening? I read a little online and it says this error is for whenever you have the incorrect ROM version? Please help!!
Install the latest cwm onto your phone and flash from recovery mode.

Check page 3 in the Android development section.

If you already have a custom recovery CWM then just find the most up to date version of it. You obviously installed once already. Also are you referring to stock 4.3?

Also getting Status 7 error
I had TWRP installed (whatever ver comes with toolbox app)
Read reply, and installed latest version of CWM Touch from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2152769
Still getting Status 7 on two different ROMs.
Now, I had been on 4.1.1, rooted and flashed a custom ROM no problem
Had some problems with my TMO service (I have another thread in this forum) and ended up doing an ODIN flash back to stock (4.0.4)
Which I have now sitting at stock, rooted. Is it possible that I'm getting the status 7 because both of the ROM's I'm attempting to flash are 4.4.2 and that is too big of a leap from 4.0.4? I'm going to grab a 4.1.x rom now to see if any different, but wanted to share history and that I was getting same error
The easiest way for me to get 4.4.2 onto an s3 was this:
1) copy a custom rom to your sd card (internal or external)
2) use Odin to flash back to any stock rom for your phone;
3) use Odin to install the latest version of Philz Touch Recovery from here (get the tar version and flash in PDA): http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att;
4) update to the most recent non-4.3 bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
5) do a full wipe in recovery;
6) flash a custom 4.4.2-based ROM from recovery.

Your main problem is that you need an updated bootloader. Please read up on this as it has been covered in great and very extensive detail throughout these forums. One bootloader will cause you to no longer to be capable of using ODIN to flash back to any stock based ROM without bricking your phone so you need to be careful.

Read more and you will see that cwm recovery is highly recommended for flashing 4.4.2 roms. Some roms dont flash good with twrp.
Hey fellas,
I want to update to the latest firmware (4.4 kitkat) on a rooted 4.1.2 GT-N7100 but i'm totally confused and i have no idea how to start...
I tried searching around and i keep seeing different methods to update if you're phone's rooted, like first thing is to reset the counter then select full unroot from SuperSU, then update to latest FW, or just install the latest FW right away without unrooting, etc.
What is the safest and correct way?
Also i'm not sure about the Custom ROM and Custom Recovery versions on my phone, how can i find out what they are?
Well you can go here :

Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Easiest way is:
If Rooted already - Download and Flash DN3 ROM and good to go
If not rooted check the android dev section on note 2 on how to root phone>install TWRP v7>and then install DN3 ROM
Thanks guys!
But does it matter if i'm on a custom rom or not?
Im on stock image 4.3 with root. I just installed TWRP 2.8.6.0 version for 4.3 . As I was looking at the rom's the majority of them want me to be on bootloader 4.2 or 4.4 before I can use the rom. What is the safest and easiest way to get there? the last time I modded a phone was with my HD2.
sorry for the noob question. I have been out of the loop for a while.
Thanks

If I goto sammobile to download N900TUVUENK3 and flash it with odin would that give me the boat loader I need? also would I need to upgrade twrp at that point? is there a document that covers this? any help would be appreciated.
Yes just be total stock 4.3 then flash the N900TUVUENK3 rom using odin and you will be able to flash any 4.2, 4.4, or 5.0 rom available. You just have to be 100% stock to do it including recovery. After you install the new rom then you can root it and install any custom recovery you want. Thats what I did. Revert to total stock, flashed the NK3 rom, rooted, then installed recovery. After that you will have a 4.2. bootloader and will be to install any rom out there. Hope this helps you out.
