[Q] How do you update from ZV9 to ZVB? - Sprint LG Optimus G

I'm currently on stock rooted ZV9 and want to update to ZVB.
I cannot use freegee to unlock my phone and use TWRP because everytime I do try to unlock my phone and try to use recovery I get stuck on the LG screen and then have to LGNPST back to stock.
Is there a way to update from stock rooted ZV9 to stock rooted ZVB?

Are you using the latest freegee?
What did you do to boot into recovery?

If you're stuck at the 4GLTE screen, then follow this.

Yes, I was rooted and using the latest freegee when I was unlocked the phone. The way I boot into recovery was opening goomanager and pressing boot into recovery. When I did that the LG screen came for 1/4 second and then disappeared into a black screen. I had to LGNPST back to stock ZV9.
I re-rooted the phone and unlocked again after LGNPST. Then booted into recovery by turning off phone and pressing vol up+power. The same thing happened again and had to LGNPST.
I dont know why this is happening to my phone.
Edit: I also couldn't fastboot or turn on/off the phone while stuck at the black screen. The only option I had was to go into Download mode and LGNPST

Unfortunately, I get stuck at the LG screen and never see 4GLTE screen.

You probably need to visit the irc. Shelnutt2 is the person you'll probably need. He has a special freegee that I think you'll need.

Just spoke to Shelnutt2. and long story short. I can't do the special freegee app because of my current situation.
But, back to topic question. How can I update from stock rooted ZV9 to stock rooted ZVB without the use of unlocking a phone.
I never received an OTA update from sprint for ZVB and will like to force it but dont know how

LG bootloop after unlock

A little help please? I can root ZV9 and ZVB but continue to have issues with installing a customer recovery. I get the bootloop on the LG logo. I can always get into download mode and fix it back to stock but no further than that. I must be missing something. Steps are as follows
1. Root my LGOG with fiddy619's ZV9 AND ZVB/JB Root zip. SuperSU and root checker say all is good
2. protect root with Voodoo OTA root keeper
3. Instal and run FreeGee from the play store (latest version 0.6.0.1). FreeGee congratulates me.
4. Install custom recovery and close FreeGee
5. Open up GooManager and update to newest TWRP 2.4.3.0
6. reboot to recovery (tried several methods, manual, reboot recovery from GooManager, QuickBoot)
7. cross all appendages and pray
8. LG bootloop
I can get back into download mode and fix it with LGNPST and rescue my phone to ZV9. So for me... root is easy just no recovery. Can TWRP be flashed from the stock recovery if I place the flashable TWRP zip in my cache folder?
Have you tried to LGNPST back to ZV7 then use the aio tool. It worked great for me.

I've used that I believe. I think that's what I used to recover from my bootloops. Then when I root that (I've tried several reboots with stock recovery and all is well), I get the bootloop after FreeGee and customer recovery even on ZV9
Irc has it. Same place you find LGNPST. They have a link for the file.

Same boat over here, root and unlock on v7 and get bootloop, then restore. Then root and unlock on v9 and get the same thing and have to restore. Everytime i install the recovery and unlock, i get the lg logo and a black screen. Hope someone can help

Can't get in to recovery, just get the lg logo, then a black screen. Or restarting the phone after unlocking with freegee, then get th lg and black screen. Had restore with lgnst to work again.

I finally had the time to try this.. I downgraded to ZV7 and let it update to ZV8. All was fine with that. I had root after severall reboots. Then I unlcoked with FreeGee (YAY) and updated TWRP in GooManager. I am now once again stuck with the LG bootloop. Any other tips I can try?

Maybe zvb has the same problem of before where certain people just aren't able to unlock with the regular freegee for some reason. Shelnutt made a special version for ICS so I would ask him if he has one for jb.

Root and Unlock is confirmed on zvc bin. The update should be no different. Fyi. To be able to install the update, you MUST have be totally stock ROM. Absolutely no changes.
Follow the Root guide. It'll guide you through the process.

I see. Ok, well I rooted and unlocked my bootloader yesterday. Today I received the update and installed it. When the phone rebooted to install the update, it went to TWRP. Then when the update finished, it booted normally. When I say nothing changed, I meant nothing with my software. Everything was left the same, even my notifications. When I tried to boot into the boot loader, it booted normally so I checked if my phone was still rooted and it wasn't. In a previous thread, you said that freegee and root are confirmed working on ZVC, that's what I was referring to because I'm gonna have to reroot and unlock again since the update unrooted and locked the bootloader.

Gotcha.
We have to have all updates before rooting and unlocking.
I can't remember if this is what it did when zvb came out our not. But we also couldn't unlock zvb for a while. So we avoided taking the update.
Anyway root and FreeGee will take care of you again as they do work on zvc.

Freegee Restore W/ Backups

Is this option going to relock my boot loader? I'm on my stock ROM (not a custom stock ROM, the ROM straight from LG). I can't get LGNPST to connect to my computer (running windows 8). My phone randomly loses internet connection (started when I flashed a 4.4 ROM) even though it says I have full bars on LTE. Tried restoring my EFS from before I began flashing, however that didn't work.

Also, I saw that one of the FAQ (according to shellnut on his post about releasing freegee for the OGPro) was how to uninstall this. He answered "restore with backups" so...I'm assuming that means as long as I'm on the LG factory ROM and use the restore with backups, I'll be relocked and won't run into the LG Security error like I would on a custom ROM.
**EDIT**
from what I understand, restoring with backups will relock the boot loader without wiping the ROM (which is why restoring with backups gives you the security error when doing it on a custom ROM) so...I'll be fine with doing it on the LG stock ROM. Right? I know I'm kind of answering my own questions but it helps to hear it from someone else. I'm currently waiting on a reply from shellnutt.

I think I gave an answer in another thread about FreeGee and how it works.
When you use FreeGee it doesn't just backup your EFS it backs up the boot and two other parts. FreeGee is a dumb app meaning that it always assumes you are restoring to the same ROM. So if you are on ZVB and run FreeGee then move to ZVC and do a restore it can crash your phone. If all you want is to restore your EFS then hit this link for details. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38348745&postcount=1

I have no idea nor have I heard of it and no-one here or anywhere can tell you it will. If you want wait for a better answer or until I can look it up.
Look in here for more info but it doesn't cover unrooting/re-locking http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050582
I will tell you that there is a chance of an unbootable phone if you have removed any bloatware and then re-lock the phone.
If you want to be safe then just LGPNST back to stock. You'll have to reinstall everything but that is always the safest.
Yeah I removed bloatware but I don't remember which ones I did besides the file manager.
Never mind, I have them all still. Only one I didn't have was File Manager but that was reinstalled with the Application Manager.
Trust me, if I could LGNPST I would, but for some reason it won't recognize my phone. I need the windows 8 drivers I think but even then, I was told theres some weird process you have to go through in order to get it to work on windows 8

More questions? lol LG apps will do it too. If you don't unlock your bootloader, you'll become really good friends with LGNPST, if you uninstall an app LG wants. Sucks I know, but unlocking isn't that bad. The safest way to unlock? Just LGNPST teeny bins. I haven't heard of any issues with it. But s#*t happens.
I want to LGNPST but alas, LGNPST hates my phone. I checked compared to my moms LGOG, I'm not missing any apps so I should be good with the freegee relock I guess. I hope so.

No clue. But if you haven't touched anything in the /system partition (I.e. removing the bloatware, installing 3rd party drivers from apps like viper4android, using xposed, etc etc) then the install should go just fine.

someone said if you aren't rooted already and take this update then you won't be able to root and if you take this update while you have a custom recovery installed you will soft brick your phone.

I tried the update. On my GPro was rooted on stock Rom. Got stuck in horrible CWM boot loop had to restore with LG R&D test tool... was kinda scared for a minute.

So how do we do this update? Go back to stock & root it but dont flash a custom recovery? This is so much work for that lil update.
Seeing as this is question #3648596925385925486526595 about the matter, just don't update. Its not that big of a deal. Its still 4.1.2 nuff said

Does anyone know if there will be a way to flash a custom recovery again with this update? I really want CWM back

Yesh once you do the update without any custom recovery installed, use freegee from the market to get it back

Have you tried it and it worked? I tried it once before after I restored my phone from a soft brick caused by the update, then I ran freegee and it would show the screen where it says the bootloader was unlocked with the LG logo then jump to another screen with just the LG logo and just kept looping in that boot forcing me to do another restore. I don't know if something went wrong and that's why I didn't work
