I was recently talking with a fellow xda friend about expanding my developmental work to more/different devices and it was recently suggested that the LG Optimus G would be a good place to start. So, what im asking for is either a lg optimus g phone that someone is willing to donate or an optimus g that someone would like to let me borrow for a bit. I do not believe in 'blind porting' or putting out work for devices that i can not personally test myself to ensure that they are up to par before release. I have been developing for about a year now and have contributed to the Samsung Infuse4g forums during that time. You can check out my work from the links in the signature or by visiting the samsung infuse4g threads. You can also take a look at my source files at http://www.github.com/scotthartbti. Please rest assured that if a phone is donated, I will put in work so that the optimus G community benefits. Please PM me with any questions or concerns you may have.
The problem is, there's quite a few Optimus G out there, so which one do you want? Location is an issue too.
You can get a Optimus G for $300 of Kijiji.

Since im asking for developmental purposes, im not going to be picky... Doesnt really matter... the point of asking for a developmental phone for donation is so that i can develop for the Optimus G and not take a hit in the wallet doing so... Im located in the USA.

I believe he means there a god only knows how many versions of the handset, and they are not completely compatible.
So if you buy an E973 for example, rest 80% Optimus G users will be out.
The best choice, would be the E975 EU model. Im sure, it supports more languages ( i guess ). Its pretty new in EU.
We really need a CM dev or aokp/aosp dev here.
I know LG is knowen for slow updates to their phones. But with some gr8 devs, thats not a problem
Im getting this phone tomorrow and im a bit scared of the lack of devs here. I really hope, there will be some more activity in the devs section soon. Or els im sure im going back to HTC again. This is lg's last chance with me

Thanks for the info. Thats why I started this thread asking for a donator optimus. I have gotten the infuse to the cm10 stage unofficially and have been maintaining it since day one. You guys need developers, find me a phone. That way the community will have more variety and I'll be able to develop on a different device. Check out the infuse forums and you will see that I'm definitely capable.
Hopefully that doesn't come off sounding to cocky.

I'd rather see some LG based ROMs... Stock ROMs are nice and all, but the LG has done a very good job with their software.

Well, since the other thread doesnt appear to be getting any sort of attention, is there any way we can get an LG Optimus S and T forum here? This is becoming a pretty popular phone, and anyone who has actually used one, will admit it is a very under rated phone.
Its not the same as the P500, so i think it deserves its own forum??? Thanks in advance!!
So, i'm pretty new here. i figured that this would be the best place to find stuff out about my phone, as i'm really into hacking my devices. however, thought this site has sections for almost every device, the LG Vortex is not a device i can find almost anywhere on this site. Is there a subforum i'm completely missing, or something i don't know? Or do i just have to ask for the section to be created?
Thanks for helping a noob out.

Rooted LG Vortex, 2.2.2
um, hello?
If I'm not mistaken, the LG Vortex is a variant of the LG Optimus One released under a different name for Verizon.
so then, its would be ok to discuss it in the optimums one forum(s)?
Bump?
(IDK if double posting is allowed here or not, sorry)

Google your phone. See if it has any other names. Look for those on here.

I know, and i have. I am now fairly certain the Vortex and the Optimums One are the same, however, I would like proof from someone a little more qualified than me. I just don't want to brick this thing. I can't replace it, and I depend on it for day-to-day life.

Have you searches through the optimus one threads?

Haven't seen anything about the Vortex there. Its on of the reasons I'm hesitant.
Well as the thread says why don't we ask a LG ROM builder. There's a article in android.central that says +Ricardo Cerqueira is a LG mastermind and has worked with LG flagship phones. Maybe if enough of us ask him he will probably help. I'd be willing to donate to get this going.

I mean if someone could get through to him and see if he's up for it, wouldn't mind helping out. Would love to see CM7 or something on this Optimus. Although, I am content with the current setup I got going.
Do you know his username here, or he goes by that name? I'd be willing to shoot him a PM or two to request for his help.
No I only got his Google+ from an article on Android central

Well, I guess the best thing to do is not to spam him with requests. First, i think you should try reaching out to him and see if he will respond back to you. Then if he feels the need to see how many people are eager, then we will join in to request.
I am already trying to reach out to some Devs that have helped us over at the Atrix Forum, and hopefully they will be willing to spend some time helping us. Particularly right now I'm trying to speak with the guy who did CWM for the Atrix.
I would be willing to donate to a dev to get the ball rolling.

Likewise, but let's save that thought until we actually get a developer here to support us. Step 1 is to reach out to as many Devs we know of and kindly requesting their help with our phones.
Is there anyone here working on an Ubuntu Touch port for the LG GPad 8.3? I plan on getting one of these awesomely spec'd tablets in the next few weeks, and it'd be great to have UT on it.
Thanks,
Shiggity
To add to my post here, there's work being done on port the KitKat Android HAL, and once that's done in theory UT can be ported to from my understanding to any platform easier. I'd be willing to help with such a port, but I can't do it alone. Anyone up for it?
I'm between jobs right now and have a G pad 8.3 coming in this week. I'd like to help working on this port. I've got 25+ years of development under my belt but no Ubuntu yet. Should be a fun project to get my software chops tuned up again.

Thanks for you interest in my idea! I can't code for beans, but I'm sure there's something we can collaborate on. I'm ready to start on this when you are!
interested
what can I do to help?
Skay, have you gotten your GPad yet? I'm still eager to help with testing stuff etc.

Count me in for helping, if there is anything I can do. No development experience yet though. Cheers

Considering you would have had little to contribute other than "coming up with the idea" all is not lost
I'm sure such a project will pop up
Is anyone still working on this, because I have a G Pad 7, and was looking to see if there was a port for it.
Hi! I recently found, that there's only - AT&T E970, E971 and E973 marked as "geeb" without our international ( ! ) E975 supported (geehrc). I'm looking for people who want to have official SlimRoms on our E975. So i decided to make a request on official SlimRom's forum. Our idea isn't "first thing to do" for developers, so I need a lot of you guys . I think this wouldn't be a big problem, because we already can run on our E975 rom from E973 with a few "modifications". But as you know official support is always better Anyone's interested? And what do you think? Please, let me know.
P. S. - Sorry for my english, it's not my national language...
I dont see how it's worth the fuss. No doubt slimrom is the best, but we can get a simulated official rom fairly easy.
It is worth because it's only "simulated" as you said. Our phone don't have a lot of custom rom support. So we have to look for every possibility of it. As I previously said it isn't hard to do for us and especially for devs. All they need to do is only to modify existing E973 rom to work on E975 and add a right couple of lines to their website.
Dude we had so many roms if you include gee, geeb roms too. If its just a few lines why don't you make it happen?
Because, it isn't official. I know... We can run this rom on our E975. But it isn't strange that E973 have support and E975 no?
Just be happy and respect what we have.

Gee roms are not real roms. Also thats a pretty conformistic attitude, I'm sorry but he can ask if he feels like it.
Official vs unofficial is like saying your not happy getting 99% in a test. Slim has been my favourite rom for years, but I also like running a new rom every few weeks, if we get an e975 rom maintainer it would most likely be at the expense of another new rom. So my statement about being happy and respecting what we have is far from conformist, its just a simple matter of give and take, especially considering we have so few true developers in the LGOG community ( many have moved on...curse you N5, bacon and HTC one). Oh and in my opinion gee roms are real, are getting more real thanks to stock camera thingy and will become even more real once loller and psychogame finish new kernel. Then Kev and fjsferreira are doing wonders with L, its exciting times and I feel thrilled to have an LGOG despite no official slimrom.
I'm really respectful to devs and happy with my unofficial version. But if I wouldn't post to the slimrom forum, they wouldn't even know about E975 and possiblity of supporting it. Why? Because they are working hard in android development, they have their own families, home and work. So they can simply forget or skip it. It's just a reminder for them. That someone is waiting for it. That's all
