[Q] Phone freezes when USB connected - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So what do I do? Everytime I connect to USB it works for a little bit, then my phone freezes and I have to do a battery pull. I'm currently using PACman ROM (JB 2.2). This also happened when I was using CM 10.1, but it worked fine when I was using CM10. Thanks in advance!

Try going into setting, storage then press menu button and press usb computer connection or whatever setting it shows. Then while in that screen uncheck then check usb mass storage. connect usb to computer see what happens:good:

Change usb connection settings to mtp
Menu - settings - storage - menu - settings - mtp
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

That also works too

i tried both and same result
When you say you tried several usb's, do you mean several usb ports on the pc or several usb cords? Try both. The stock usb cable is garbage. I have 2 epics in my household and both stock usb cords stopped working properly fairly quickly.

They stopped hooking to the pc first, and eventually stopped charging as well.

I just tried the same usb on a different model phone and it connected normally. I'm not sure what the problem is now.
and just tp make sure my prioblem wasnt from the usb cord i just bought a new one and still its not working.
Make sure your not using a launcher that will hide notification bar, I just made a tip thread in general for this problem, which may or may not help you
Now it will work ever now and again ( 1out of 10 times maybe), but if you use TW launcher it will work every single time. I'm looking into why hiding the noty bar borks USB/sdcard mounting.
I had a similiar problem where it would not connect with usb debugging on. I had to go into control panel and device manager, find the connection with USB debugging on, and then hit update driver from Windows Update. Took about 30 minutes but all worked fine after that.

It may be "Other" or Samsung Android. Does your computer make the connect sound? There should be something in the USBs if it does.

Make sure to use the same port you installed the drivers on. There also may be dirt in your usb on your phone.

I've had this happen as well.
Enable usb debugging, then it'll work. idk why it has to be fine like that though.

you have to go to
settings/wireless and network/usb utilities/connect storage to pc
It will ask you to connect cable, then you can choose usb mass storage.

Is the computer recognizing the.phone? Once USB debugging is checked you should be able to pull down the notification bar and make your selection.

MTP- Initilization?

Usually when I plug my E4GT in, it allows me to go into USB storage mode, but now after I switched my phone to boost, It says this instead, what can i do to fix this?
There is a USB switcher app in the play store. You can switch from MTP to mass storage.

Try to go into Settings-Applications-Development and enable USB debugging. This should disable MTP and allow you to into Settings-Wireless and network-USB utilities and manually select mass USB storage.
I already tried that before I posted this thread and when I pressed it said to remove USB, im going to try that app out when I get home

Guessing you are obviously rooted so why not try ExTweaks (free from the playstore). There is a setting to enable USB Mass Storage by default in the IO/USB settings portion.

Found the solution, when I was flashing my E4GT to boost, I changed a setting and forgot to change it back. I pressed ##8778# and changed it back to AP from CP. Thanks everyone for the help.

I have the E4GT non-root w/ ICS. My phone still does not give me any other options other then MTP or PTP. Even tried turning on and off USB debugging. Could use some assistance, thanks in advance...

Thank you so much for posting this response. I did the same thing and could not get MTP mode to work and now I feel like an idiot because I thought that I somehow fubared something on the device. I didn't fubar it, I just forgot to follow all of the instructions. Thanks as I tried variations on MTP windows 7 and Epic 4g Touch to no avail and then I found this thread and it really, really made my night. If I was employed at the moment, I would honestly offer you enough to buy a beer. My thanks will have to do! Once again, thanks.

[Q] Note 2 4.3 help

I recently updated my Note 2 SPH-L900 to Android 4.3. At first everything went well until when I went to root it it seems though my phone recognizes its been plugged in as a media device to my computer it says that there is no program that can access its files. I've activated USB debugging as well as put it to MTP+ADB under the Qualcomm USB settings and then selected to use MTP. Did I click a wrong setting? My phone will charge when plugged in to my computer. Odin also does not recognize my phone. Any help to fix this problem is greatly appreciated.
USB debugging is MTP+ADB. When you put it back on MTP you took it off USB debugging.

I didn't take it off of MTP+ADB. One I pressed save and reset I plugged my phone in and touched the USB button in the status bar then I selected mtp for media device instead of ptp for camera. Yet despite having the right settings my note 2 states that it is unable to find software on my computer that can recognize my phone. I'm using Windows 7 with the Samsung USB phone drivers installed already. This problem only started when I updated to the 4.3 update. Hopefully this information helps a bit more then my previous post.

[Q] Drive Link and Custom Rom

I rooted my Samsung note II (cm11 nightly) recently and when I tried to use the drive link app with my head unit (xav-601) it is now constantly saying unsupported USB device .. Is there something I can do to have it recognize my phone to make it a working USB device?
If you have a notification menu you can swap usb modes in there. On stock touchwiz there is 2 options in there.

Yea I've switched it to both camera and disk mode both seem to give me the same msg (unsupported USB device) I've even tried turning on USB debug mode.
