all roms will have SOME bugs on them, even stock ones. I suggest trying a few 4.04 touchwiz based ones such as KOODO or JK, and moving from there to a AOSP based 4.1 or 4.2 rom or a 4.12 leak.

Anything Jedi
Haven't been disappointed since I bought this phone

CM10.0 Stable - I find it smoother and faster compared to Touchwiz roms.

I say go to jedi mind trick or jedi jelly. Both are extremely smooth and stable.

Cyanogenmod 10 was my first ROM and I think it's pretty easy to install and use. Recently I started using PACman and it's pretty easy to use too. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you start romming!

I liked aokp because of all of the features it offered but the battery life on my tmobile galaxy s2 was not the greatest. i'm currently rocking sons of android build 2, from the maker of the jedi roms.

Nice rom for begginers
Here is a good ROM I have found. everything works. The only down side i have noticed is the call quality. but if you use bluetooth or wifi calling it is crystal clear.

Embryo 6-8, just awesome my favorite to date, another one I liked was JMT but that was ICS 4.0.3, it ran great but I felt that I downgraded since my stock ROM was 4.0.4. Others I tried were AOKP 4.2.2 M1 B5, just too AOSP looking for my taste, had random crashes, Jedi Jelly this one just stuck on booting.
So:
#1 Embryo 6-8, overclocked to 1.78 using samsung governer
#2 Stock 4.0.4 Koodo
#3 JMT

I'd wait a week. I'm guessing there will be a pretty solid jb ota leak. It's been a week since li8.
Cm10 definitely most stable.

I'd say the Frosty rom is the best. Everything works. seems like factory. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874063
Frosty and paranoid android were both solid for me.
My vote is for ParanoidAndroid. I used it on my Nexus S and it was pretty good. Ability to adjust dpi setting is very useful as this phone can let apps produce very crisp/clear resolution settings.
Frosty for TW and a cm10 for overall stability

So frosty v1 is stable enough?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
CM10 hands down.
I haven't had a single problem. Running 09/25 nightly right now
Been running Casper's aokp for a week now. Had two lockups on different builds but other than that no other issues, no flickering either. Running it with ktonz kernel @ 1809. Battery life is comparable to Free & Wicked's ICS roms. It's based off all the latest cm10 builds but with soo many more customization options such changing the background of your notification tray. I've heard good things about codenameandroid too.

New S3 user with some questions about ROMs out there

Hi all,
This is my first venture into Android and I must say, I these are incredible phones, and I am very excited for the future of mobiles again!
I've tested out a few ROMs so far, and while the ASOK and cyanogen mods are more my thing, the ROMS out for them are not (still buggy as a daily driver for me)
On the other hand the stock rom for this phone is awesome. All functions are working fine and I haven't had one hiccup yet.
Anyone know another ROM that is as stable and possibly in JB. If not on JB but a batter rom that I stock which is still on ICS?
Thanks for your help!

CM10 Monthly builds are also quite stable. I've been using it for 2 months now. Also if you like the look of TouchWiz and want to stay on it but remove the Samsung bloatware, you could use the debloater tool or use Titanium Backup to freeze system apps

On the Darkside Rom

I haven't posted in a while but my phone is still solid on 3.8 Darkside. Ive used nothing but Darkside since he started development. What happened to the dev? It feels strange using an awesome rom that isnt even in the dev section anymore.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
TDJ moved on. Remember our valued devs are volunteers and hobbyists, and it's to be expected that they will come and go.
But there is an awesome group of devs active on the T989 today, and many excellent ROMS to select from.
I'd recommend that you nandroid your trusty Darkside, then try a clean install of JB. Flash your way through a series of CM, AOKP, and various kangs.
I will be extremely surprised if you don't find a new favorite. The aesthetics, responsiveness and features of the ROMs out today far exceed where we were even back in the summer.
Nandroid is your friend. Go play.

You can actually search sourceforge.net for thederekjay to find his last build.
I had to Odin back to stock after a nameless recovery screwed my phone up for the second time (nothing I flashed would work right). I remembered how much I liked Darkside Evolution and decided to search for it and try it again. It has to be the most stable custom ROM to date. It obviously doesn't have the bells and whistles that the others do, but everything just works. It also looks sweet if you slap Touch0Color and TouchWiz UX on top of it (both are still in the apps and themes section).

I just started using it after all the crappy battery and various problems from some of the JB Roms. Ive used them all I think. Slim beans awesome as far as battery goes and liquid smooth but each still have graphical glitches. 3.8 is the way to go its by far the most reliable TW Rom we got with bulletproof a close second IMO.
I just recently committed to making the switch. I was on Darkside v. 8. I am now using Infamous Resurrection Gangnam Style. Great Touchwiz basedRom. Good battery life. No lags. And it's still active so lots of support etc for this rom.

You don't have to wipe data if its the same rom, but I use Titanium Backup when switching to different roms.
Rom: LiquidSmooth RC9
Kernel: KT747
so far so good.
What jelly bean rom are you using? And why?
I am using cm10 stable and love it and the reason why is that I'm a newbie it is the one pour stock android I can get on my Samsung galaxy s3. I think my next phone will be the google nexus 5 when ever that comes out or a new galaxy nexus.
I'm using the latest cm10 nightly and it has some glitches here and there but it's solid for most part.
I'm using Serenity. It's a port of JB from the Galaxy Note II.
Why this one and not something else? I wanted to keep the Touchwiz feel for a while longer and I've used Serenity ROMs in the past on a different device.
Using CM10. Bass over bluetooth doesn't work so I dropped back to an older build. Even the older ones still work fine. Running leankernel. Couldn't be happier with my phone!

I'm running BlackBean with LeanKernel all apps inverted along with inverted JB 4.2 keyboard. Why? I used BlackBean on my old Nexus S, inverted stuff saves a ton of battery life on our SAMOLED screens, the combo is overall damn smooth and the kernel also helps to save that battery life while maintaining buttery smoothness. Couldn't be happier.
LiquidSmooth RC9 with leankernel. Seems to be working pretty good so far. A couple of complaints here and there (had an issue with phone crashing every time I received a call, some minor annoyances with music playback) but for the most part it's very speedy and stable.
