Hey guys,
So I've been running back and forth from AOSP/CM10/AOKP and TW roms.
With the same apps and settings it seems like TW roms, after deleting all the bloat, gives me better battery life for some odd reason..
Enough about that.. I hate the colors on TW roms.. I like the minimal black icons that AOSP have in the settings menu and such.
I'm just wondering if there are any TW roms WITH AOSP UI or Theme? or would I have to theme it myself?

You are doing something very wrong. AOSP based roms always have better battery then the bloated stock TW roms. But check out Blanddroid in the android development section

I'm not sure if you read my post correctly. I mentioned that I can better battery life after debloating it.
But anywho, thanks

No I read it right. Debloating it does not remove the bloated TW files from the system.
I always saw much better battery life on AOSP 4.1.2 compared to TW 4.1.1, but the battery life on AOSP 4.2.2 seems about the same for me on TW 4.1.1. I'm not an extreme user, so I always run the KT kernel and run a lean combination.

I actually get the same amount if I am using LTE all the tiem. But for the way I utilize my phone, I actually get better battery life on stock TW that has been debloated. I have the AT&T version. Since AT&T hard locked out the SGS3 from being able to utilize network preferences (to select 2G only, etc...even on AOSP roms) I still use stock. Utilizing USSD codes, I can get my phone into 2G only since I have crappy 3G and LTE signals at work. I am sure this contributes greatly.

I use my phone intensively throughout the day(maps, games, cool apps) and I've always gotten maximum 6 hours of battery life on TW and on Task's AOKP 4.2.2 with underwear kernel and I always get at least 12 hours of battery life with 3 hours of screen on time without under volting or under clocking. If you ask me that's a huge increase.

It depends heavily on the phone and how it is used. I came from using AOSP for a long time (until my clock froze and I missed my alarm. =p) I noticed however that when I switched from AOSP to a tw ROM (graviton) my battery life got much better. I averaged about 11-12 hours and went up to 18-20 hours on tw.

All in the phone. Lol.

Seriously no idea which one to choose, is there JB ROM but not stock, I like the camera and Motions, pop up screen etc. Deleting Touchwiz erases all of them, also No idea which one is stable, they all claim it
BAN!!!!!
I don't understand, do you want a touchwiz jb rom or not? If you want tw, i tried frostyjb rom and it seem fully functional. I only used it a few hours because people were saying it had bad battery life. If you don't want tw, id suggest trying either aokp or cm10

Really depends on what you want. I have found WickedV5 works best for me. It isn't based on JB which I have found not to be as stable but it does have Google Now.
Alot of it depend on your own personal preference and even your own individual device.
I personally go with AOSP ROMs. I get 4+ hours of screen on time with those
Hey guys Ive been thinking lately of trying the new ota but I have a few questions/concerns.
Im on bugless beast 4.1.2 and couldn't be happier. Never an f/c, no stuttering, perfect stable setup. Will I find the same on a stock-like 4.2.2 rom? I tried some 4.2.1 roms but always walked away disastified (jittery crt animation, buggy, laggy). Any bugs on 4.2.2? Hows the speed over 4.1.2? I dont really care about the new toggles and lockscreen but if the speed is better and is stable id be interested.
Thanks!
No major changes. Believe me. Just update to be up to date. No other visible reasons.
All new versions run slower than previous. Custom kernels - we all know are just a placebo. Except kernel configuration possibility (for instance to slow down the phone to save the battery (which I doubt makes any sense) or turn on the fast charge).
So your phone won't be faster and your battery won't run longer.
If you want a decent standby and screen time (the default is - 12-16h and 2h screen time MAX!):
1. Disable Wifi
2. Disable Data
3. Switch to 2G
Everything else - waste of time
So 4.2.2 is slower than 4.1.2?

I've heard people say that it's smoother on their devices, but... the most reliable way to know would be to backup and flash it yourself. It seems that everyone's device is different, and everyone's choice of running apps is different as well. So only you would likely know if it is faster for you or not.

I was on 4.1.2 since December because 4.2.1 was junk.
4.2.2 runs great, they polished the quirks out and I don't feel the need to switch back. Google stock image, stock kernel.

I'd like some input from you guys that have tried both stock-based and CM/AOKP-based roms. What features of stock do you miss if you're on CM/AOKP? Or, what features of CM/AOKP do you miss if you're on stock-based rom?
My last phone (lost it, didn't have insurance) was the HTC One X...I usually prefer the customization potential of CM/AOKP, but for the One X at the time, the battery life on stock-based was FAR superior to CM, so I had to go with stock for work purposes.
What are your experiences with the GS2?
Stock, because every AOSP rom I've tried has horrible call quality and I've tried every trick in the book to fix it. I also like using mass storage instead of mtp, alarm clock and music player from touchwiz. Bluetooth is also more reliable. I do miss the aokp clock, it doesn't work quite right on touchwiz.
The main advantage of aokp is that it's more up to date, but the differences between 4.1 and 4.2 are pretty negligible.

AOKP all the way - I think it comes down to one thing for me...Speed... Running other launchers like Nova, the live wallpapers, animations, transitions on AOKP vs TouchWiz is really noticeable. The TW framework seems to slow the whole phone down. The stock dialer/messaging app on TW is slow and clunky compared to AOSP/AOKP. Plus there's the theme chooser, or lack of themes for TW.
I want to like TW, I really do - I tried all the available ROMS with different combos of kernels, and no matter what I do, it just seems clunky in my eyes. I miss SOME TW apps and functionality, but if I bought the S4, I'd go the route of the AOSP version.
Wifi calling, it's the only reason.

Using Stock Rom JB 4.1.2
JB 4.1.2 stock is very stable, i have try several Custom Roms JB4.2.2 to the point i flash phone almost very day and i wnet back to stock, here are the reason why:
I use Video chat [hang out and talk], this does not work in any JB custom ROM.
USB to PC gives me the correct transfer speed, Custom ROMS either does not work or if it work transfer data very slow or gets stuck
Video share to smart TV i can simply play the video from my phone to my smart TV in Seconds, i have not see this feature to work with Custom ROM w/o getting a 3rd party app.
Battery Life in stock is better than custom ROMS in my case.
these are the main reason i sue stock ROM.
Hi all!
I've become quite the Flashaholic since I got my Rogers S3 about three months ago... Just to name a couple ROMS I've tried: ParanoidAndroid, LiquidSmooth, Task650
I've stuck with Task650 now for a few weeks because I simply LOVE how smooth it runs, battery life is great (Noop and OnDemand Kernel Settings) and I love the Customization that comes with AOKP. I truly have no complaints...or so I thought.
I began rooting / flashing my phone the day after I got it; so I never had much chance to play around with the stock rom / TouchWiz features, So I wasn't even sure what all the features were! Today I was sitting here, and I saw a commercial for the S4, how a guy is watching a video on his phone and he looks away; the video automatically paused because he wasn't looking at the screen. I thought "This is pretty neat! I wonder if my S3 can do anything like that. Perhaps I'll have to modify it somehow or get a specific app / service." and so I started doing research. Turns out the S3 has something similar to this called "Smart Stay". I looked in my menu's and discovered it doesn't exist on Task650 so I googled it, and turns out it's not featured in any AOKP ROM. It's a TouchWiz feature. There were a couple other nifty Touchwiz features I liked such as "Camera Quick Access", "Double tap to top" and the Motion Quick calls (Hold phone up to ear while on a Contact Card or Text message to automatically call someone). None of these (that I can discover) are available for AOKP.
TLDR= Touchwiz has a lot of nifty features I currently don't have running Task650 AOKP.
I'm debating moving back to Touchwiz, and wanted the opinions of you all. The downsides to switching back? Any Custom ROMS with all these features that you'd recommend and Kernels for said ROMS with good battery life?
Tell me your thoughts!
Thanks!
Don't lol
I honeslty think he has the must up to date ideas/fixes of all the rom's out there. I'd keep it.

I agree, the Task650 ROM is amazing, but I really do feel like my phone is lacking now that I know the numerous features that AOKP and CM Don't include; that touchwiz has. Trust me, I have no real complaints other than I want more bells and whistles >.<

Good to see the Touchwiz vs. AOSP continuing.
You'll find die hard supporters of both here.
It's the age old chicken /egg Ford/Chevy argument. Most common answer you'll around here is "flash something and see if you like it"
While touchwiz has a bunch of good features that you might use some people want pure android without the Samsung bloat.

The features you are looking for a Touchwiz based features. The Samsung / Touchwiz framework will not mesh with AOSP.
There are some custom Touchwiz based ROMs that are good, (Synergy, Hyperdrive etc)
I used to use Task's ROM for a good couple months flashing every update and when the new version of ParanoidAndroid I flashed it and haven't looked back,
I know there is one or two ROMs that are Touchwiz based with AOSP themes if that is what you are looking for.
I find the Touchwiz setup gimmicky but that is just me. I like feature rich options that are pure function and no gimmicks.

what is a gimmick with tw? multiview and allshare cast seem a whole lot more functional than 90% of the UI tweaking AOSP ROMs offer. I'm an AOSP man myself until TW 4.1.2 because truthfully it makes AOSP look like a big gimmick.

Honestly, the feature that I miss most is the amazing camera on TW. It's loads better than the CM camera in every single feature. I miss being able to take non-blurry HDR photos or panoramas that don't take 5 minutes to render.
However, there is a bug in TW that causes horrible battery drain, so CM 10.1 nightly + Lean kernel are the way to go.

I don't know what TW ROMs you have been using but I get 2-3 hours of on screen time with Stockoroma or S3rx ROM or wicked sensation on att I know if you flash Ktoonez kernel you have to rename a file or it cause battery drain also greenify is a good app that's helps keep certain apps asleep and not running in the background and for aosp ROMs task650 is a good one but for some reason the browser won't let me download music from a website I like so I stick to TW

I've been using stock TW.
And holy crap, Leankernel is amazing. I've been getting 3 hours and 45 minutes of screen time with 15+ hours on battery total. I've never had such good battery life on this phone!
You can try Synergy Rom and Ktoonsez kernel. I'm easily getting 5 hours screen time and roughly 1.5% battery drain at idle with wifi always on. The best part is multi window on a debloated and deodexed rom.

I have had a look through the rom's for the i9195 and can't seem to decide which to get.
My main problems with the stock touchwiz rom are:
Terrible battery life (Having to charge twice a day sometimes)
Occasional lag
Touchwiz itself, I prefer stock Android
So I want a good stock rom, or something customised with cool features which I can atleast get a day's heavy use from.
I'll miss the little things like saying cheese to get the camera to take a picture, anything I can do to get this back?
It must be stable.
Everything must work.
Another thing I want but doesn't have to be incorporated in the rom is a launcher that supports placing apps inside the app drawer into folders, any suggestions? Must have the look of the stock android or nexus 5 launcher.
Thanks In Advance

I'm pretty sure asking for recommended ROM is against the forum rule, but since your problem lies elsewhere, so here it is: You can stay with TW ROM and improve your battery life by using custom kernel. The CPU governor is the main reason for poor battery life.
As for ROMs, well there's a few to choose from you got to do some research yourself. But I prefer Slimroms since it bare minimum.
You're free to use any launcher as you please even on TW. Note though flash kernel or ROM will trip knox.
well..
look my friend is about what you looking for there are some rom for you taste but.. you can test carbon i a good one... MUIU v5 that a very customizable rom and have good battery life! ther eis a new one LewaOS im testing that one and very cool and smoth this phone have agood battery life so you can go for something customizable! other roms like LS or Cyanogen are pretty good tho! :good::fingers-crossed:
