[Q] Boot image kernel with fastboot ? - HTC One X

Hi,
I got a HTC One X (JB, ARHD 19.2)
I'd like to use the XM-Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136731)
but I don't understand the 4th instruction here given in the kernel thread.
"1.Install modules from recovery (Install the zip)
2.Wipe dalvik cache.
3.Erase fastboot cache
4.Flash kernel image with fastboot"
Flash kernel image with fastboot ?
Do I have to unzip the kernel on my computer, use the " new_boot.img " file inside the folder ?
So... The question is : Where's the kernel image ??

IF I Have missed any flashing tutorial just PM me
gonna maintain this thread
Great TUT
One thing., I would strongly advise to have a full boot before flashing mods....
that depends..u can basically flash them because its just a push of files to /system
You may want to check the spelling of some of your commands. It should be 'fastboot erase cache' and not 'fastboot erase cahe' as you have written. Not a biggy, but may prevent some posts saying it didn't work.
Thanks!ClydeB1
Maybe add slightly more detailed steps, since I'm assuming that this is aimed at people who are having a go at flashing for the first time?
Like after "go to recovery" add [Hold power and volume down button] or after "flash the rom" add [select 'install zip from sdcard' then 'choose zip from sd card', then select your ROM]
Not a criticism! Just a suggestion to prevent posts asking how to get into recovery etc.
I will do that craigavonite sure
Rom:ARHD 7.2.2
KERNEL:FAUX 005B1
I will brief them by tommorow
And add up flashing each mods
Rom:ARHD 7.2.2
KERNEL:FAUX 005B1
Updated for paranoid Android
Added lines for getting into recovery thanks to craigavoite
any other guides which u guys wanna implement?
Any Flashing problems can ask any doubt to me
I flashed all ROMs with one same way..everytime..lol..
I don't think wiping SD card is needed every time.
One X to rule them all.

Hi i'm looking to flash my 1st rom (Renovate) on my new X and looking at this as a novice to flashing could you expand on these steps please?
More 1 & 2 really. Where do I transfer the files to & What do you mean go to fastboot? With the 3rd i assume you mean in the command console in 3? I'm not being picky i'm just trying to show up any steps that a total novice could get stuck on, like me
Thanks

Nice tutorial. How about a guide for getting back to stock?

[Q] Any 1 here experienced with kernels? Need your help for my Kitchen.

Ok firstly this may seem a bit confusing, I am copying this from a PM i sent to @wedgess
Hi, I am wondering if you would be able to make a bootable recovery image with TWRP as i have no idea how to do it and i can only find CWM ones which requires signature for "--update_package="
I don't want a kernel and i don't want a cwm image but i want just simple a TWRP recovery.img which is bootable like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493996 but TWRP instead
Your kernel's work fine but i need it to boot a recovery.img then flash the new rom via "--update_package=" and then reboot device.
For more information check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391169
I hope you can help, Thanks.
-------------------------------
TWRP works great with both the last 2 options so i need to some how create a bootable recovery img based on TWRP but i don't have a clue about kernel development... Could i maybe replace ramdisk with existing bootable recovery or something?
-------------------------------
So to put it simply, I need to switch out CWM on this recovery.img and put TWRP on it (The reasons for this are complicated to explain but i would be extremely thankful if any one could help and credit will be giviven)
So please can any one help me Thanks.
Sorry I didn't reply to your final PM as I said due to real life and limited time I cannot do it for you, But happy to help assisting you if needed. Championswimmer has a tutuorial on what to change in the device tree for TWRP. Search function is down ATM so I can't link you to the thread.

Yeah no worries, Decided to ask any one else, As i really don't have the time to do this aswell as all the other stuff im doing. And it will take some one with experience a lot less time.
I tried switching out the /sbin folder but it didn't work and i didn't expect it to
I am hoping to find some 1 with a linux enviroment all sorted as i don't have a clue when it comes to kernels. surely there is a simple way to switch out a prebuiilt CWM Recovery with a TWRP recovery? Do you know what files TWRP and CWM use?
Thanks.
Altenatively any ideas on what needs to be changed to boot it to recovery always? if so i could modify a existing TWRP kernel (yours for example) and then force it to recovery.
EDIT
I assume you meant this guide?
PORT TO STOCK/ICS/YOU-FAVOURITE-KERNEL
A boot.img consists of the kernel image and the ramdisk (additionally and optionally RPM.bin and commandline). If you want to use TWRP for some other kernel, you have to do this
1. decompile this boot.img (for 2011 models it's a true boot.img, for 2012 models, it's actually a kernel.elf file renamed to boot.img, so you have to decompile accourdingly. you can use my kernel kitchen to do the same)
2. replace the kernel zImage with the one from the kernel you want to port to
3. replace /sbin/ramdisk.cpio with the "UNCOMPRESSED" ramdisk of the kernel you want to port this to. (usually ramdisk is compressed with gzip i.e. ramdisk.cpio.gz. you need to uncompressed ramdisk image i.e. ramdisk.cpio)
4. do not touch anyother thing
5. pack it up into a boot.img (for 2011) or kernel.elf (for 2012) and fastboot it
@wedgess ok so i got it working it now auto boots to TWRP but ADB isn't working, Any ideas?
Thanks so much i got it all working that guide helped
I am curious of what you are trying to do...
As i understand you want:
-flash (only) twrp recovery in fastboot mode
-reboot to recovery and flash rom from pc (adb sideload maybe?)
-reboot to fastboot again to flash kernel
-reboot
If i understand correctly you want to flash ROM (and kernel) from PC side, not dong it from phone?

ok this is what happens
1. Download rom and kernel from my kitchen via helper application on windows
2. verifiy md5's
3. fastboot fllash new kernel
4. fastboot boot "recovery.img"
5. once in the new bootable recovery i created/edited, send adb command "adb shell" > recovery --update_package=ROM
6. wait for rom to install, reboot
7. DONE! new rom and kernel flashed
All done automagically and without any user interaction other than picking the rom.

install lineageOS -- failure on verification

Hey, I think I read all the threads that could be helpful (development, Q&A, lineageos & cm-installguides, twrp-install and so on), but I don't get my phone to work.
I have a Xperia M2 Dual c2005 and want to get LineageOS working. I have no data left that I would need, so I try to start from new...
Steps already taken:
- unlocked bootloader for both IMEIs https://zifnab.net/~zifnab/wiki_dump/Install_CM_for_nicki.html#What_does_.22unlocking.22_mean.3F --> worked
- flashed boot.img (extracted from lineage-14.1-20170131-nightly-nicki-signed.zip) in fastboot-mode and went to recovery
- wanted to copy zip to device, but adb (also with sudo!) says: unauthorized (Please check the confirmation dialog on your device. ... but there is none)
- in CM-recovery i tried to flash via sideload, but it stops transferring data at around 50% and saying: E: signature verification failed ... and E: error 21
- had the md5sum created and put it in folder, still the same
- also tried, what shouldn't be done fastboot flash boot twrp-3.0.2-0-nicki.img --> doesn't work b/c of FOTA, so how to install twrp?
Any ideas how to install clean lineageOS? Thanks in advance.
...usually this problem cause bad kernel or image .. so wipe format, data, cache, dalvik cache, make factory reset in cwm... boot again to recovery and flash TWRP 2.8.6.0 zip. file via recovery and reboot again to recovery .. now flash latest lineage os , without any extract
.. here is link for twrp..: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...very-cwm-twrp-recoveries-custom-roms-t3016507
..dont forget!! flash this 2.8.6.0 version ... if doesnt work this little guide, try to format sdcard via recovery in advanced option "this is partition where is everithyng set on 0 " ... and try again
Thanks a lot! For me it worked the following way, since I didn't have CWM present:
- downloaded TWRP 2.8.7.0 from the link you provided
- extracted FOTAKernel.img
- in fastboot mode: sudo fastboot flash boot FOTAKernel.img
- reboot in recovery (worked well!)
- adb push lineageos14.1.xxx.zip /sdcard/
- install and choose image
Thanks a lot, after a couple of days of trying I do now understand Sony a little more (for my own, I only use Nexus, which works quite simple ).

[TIPS] Tips to use vince properly

so, i make this thread to share my tips when using vince. i assume you already unlock bootloader, root, have pc/laptop, already install usb driver for redmi 5 plus, and have common sense
this thread is based on my opinion and experience while using vince
Clean Flash to Flash Custom Rom
you can use this method with clean flash method. for me, this is best to do if you want to flash to different android rom version.
steps :
- backup your file (ROM, gapps, etc) to pc or SD Card (external storage)
- reboot phone to fastboot mode, and plug phone with usb to pc
- open xiaomi flash tool, on bottom right, choose clean all (not clean and lock)
- use select button and select the extracted archive of downloaded fastboot images folder
- press refresh button, and your vince should be detected
- press flash, and wait patiently
- after the xiaomi flash tool done flashing, your vince will reboot twice, on second reboot, you go to fastboot mode again.
- use the recovery flasher the file is on bottom of this post (just execute the bat file)
- your phone will reboot to recovery, format data, then wipe all
- flash last updated firmware
- flash the desired rom
if you want to flash to different custom rom, but its same android version, you can just
- wipe all
- flash last updated firmware
- flash desired rom
cause flash to fastboot rom is overkill
Common way to flash custom rom
this is how im flash custom rom. well its not a best choice, but its okay for using my vince as daily driver
ordered step
- clean flash (dirty flash its okay, but im rarely dirtyflash)
- flash last updated firmware
- flash rom
- flash opengapps nano
- flash magisk (lastest stable)
- flash custom kernel (some rom dont have lastest kernel)
Easy way to flash recovery
so i make a simple bat to flash recovery if you are from fastboot rom.
how to use
- reboot to fastboot mode
- plug phone to pc
- double click the bat file and follow the instruction there
