I also just got it and it looks quite suspicious... Other people share my point of view:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...pdate-available-facebook-malware-warning.html
Looking like a self updating version of FB as far as anyone can tell...probably just to make sure that everyone is on the same page. Would be nice though if they could mention something instead of just blasting everyone's phone all suspiciously like this. Just something that there should at least be an on site notification to let you know, or any sort of official statement by them. Not installing it myself until I hear more about it.
This sure is strange. One guy installed and now he can't seem to sign in his Google account...
I'm not doing anything too now.

Updated, my FB version number didn't change but now I have the "new" newsfeed.

Just read about it on Android Central.
It is from facebook, but it will only download over wifi only, otherwise the notification will keep coming back. The update is independant from the playstore and violates googles developer rules. It is only being pushed to phones that have the install apps from unknown sources checked. Facebook has confirmed they pushed the update, but refuse to say what it does! I think El Goog is going to be pissed about this!

I keep getting Nagged for an update. Anyone know how I stop it from asking. It keeps trying and trying.
Have you already got the first OTA? If so then we need to get a copy of the OTA that you are being asked to install.
What are your current build number and software number under about phone?

yep. I finally got my phone rooted again after many tries but now I seem to get a request to install an update and this time I am not going to take the chance and losing root. Does anyone know where that update sits on the phone?

CDMA, I (as well as many) know how to do this. HOWEVER, your claim MAY be valuable, hence why all the questions, and not answers to your thread. Do us a favor and screenshot your build number/software info for us. (under about phone of your settings menu). If everything checks out, we can continue to help you block the OTA updates.
What is odd is you getting prompted for OTA this late in the game. Unless you have recently applied an older RUU, you should not be getting prompted for OTA. Please provide this info. Thanks.

In that thread didn't you say that you are a tester for Verizon or something and that you got the latest update that supposedly provides 720p, wireless hotspot, etc? If so are you saying that you have rooted even after that update? If that's the case then the Unrevoked root method has not been patched by the latest update.
Cdma,
If this is the new ota then this is great news. Please post your build number and if you haven't already flash the clockworkmod recovery using unrevoked's reflash. Then we can pull the ota and unrevoked can make it root safe.
cdma head on over to the irc channel and we can help you get the ota off your phone

Did you ever try and RUU back to stock? You said you were gonna give it a shot...
I didn't want to really get into this because I could be wrong, but I work for Verizon Wireless. I looked around the pages of information we had to see if maybe there was a planned OTA update for the Incredible. We normally get warned in advance for any software updates that are being pushed to the phone. Needless to say, I wasn't able to find any information after some thorough digging. I figured that maybe this was a test that HTC was doing before releasing it to us. I asked some reps from HTC that were showing off the Incredible that day and they hadn't heard of any update coming for the Incredible. They said they would shoot me an email if they heard anything, but I never heard back. So, maybe it is true, but I'm still doubting it until I see something in writing about it.
Seeing as how we cant get a screenshot im sort of feeling its either the original OTA or total bull****. Would love for it to be neither but if i had i would find a way to get it in to the brilliant hands of our developers. I know id like to be the guy who blessed the many members of XDA with 720p video and that sweet new boot animation.(and mainly a way to keep root) Anyway ill stop my rant as thats not my style.

With this said, has there been a zip released for manual update/poking around? Engadget said its rolling out, Reto Meier said it should be within the next few weeks.
I dont get it
If it is out, then all is well, people got the random predictions for the 6th correct.
Also seems strange to update the SDK and roll out the update on the same day. Or is that just me?

Have you actually had a look in the thread though? Both threads titled Gingerbread System Dump (or something similar to that) are utter BS. Theyre both SDK dumps, not the system.
Anyone else feeling deja vu? Very similar to the whole FroYo hype. And all other firmware update hypes for that matter.
Lets just wait. When an actual dump arrives, them we can get excited, but today is just a GB SDK update, and no actual system updates AFAIK.

There was an app that would connect to the HTC OTA server and get the URLs for OTA files. I can't for the life of me find it so I'm either searching with wrong terms or it's gone.
Anyone got the link?

You are looking for the HTC in app service that connects and checks URL's for updates for the device the app is installed to. Yes this ap exists BUT why would you need it if HTC has not released updates for your device ? And another thing custom Rom's can be updated via similar mehods using the in app update button.
OTA Updates rely on the COTA client app in system/app and the lines in customize/CID/default.xml respond to OTA once you change them the OTA client will look to those URL's for a update and download if there is a update available

What I was looking for was something close to project cheesecake that search the manufacture servers for leaks not the carrier. Project cheesecake is a Motorola specific app but has been extremely helpful for getting updates weeks sometimes more than a month before officially released through ota methods. I've researched the HTC side and people have found using this method much more difficult because of how secure HTC servers are. Most if not all have given up on this and just wait for the carrier to release.
Currently we are working with a leak found through one of these servers that a user found for an international version. But it's for a different device. We have successfully ported this leak for the American version but are having issues with a very annoying watermark that HTC has placed to help prevent their software from being used on a wide scale.

Holy .. I hope I will receive the update in the Netherlands. I bought my device in the UK. The device isn't on the market in the Netherlands yet. Guess they will be shipped with the fix. Swell, have to dust off Odin again I guess. Is there a package to flash?
Edit: never mind..found the update package here already.
Got mine earlier today. Just did a manual check for update at around 18 and there it was.
Kinda freaked out when it wouldn't connect to the mobile network after the update, no connection at all heh. Only thing that worked was Wi-Fi. Thankfully fixed by another reboot

I just got an ota update pushed today but I haven't tried to update yet because I'm rooted. I am wondering if this is new or if this could be the same update as last time being sent out again. I didn't update the last time because it seemed to be a small update to change the coding of the pinch to zoom feature. Any word of a new update? Thanks in advance

Just fyi, even though its a small update, it shouldn't cause any issues where data is concerned, and you can update a number of ways that will let you stay rooted. See my firmware thread in development stickies to get the fw or ota.
More importantly, the upcoming jb update will patch this update, so if you haven't updated you may miss the message.

You'll need this update to get the jb.

Well I was a little reluctant to apply the new updates for fear that they would mess something up or take away some feature that I enjoy. I applied one update because it added the brightness bar but it took away the search feature. I found a way to put the search back but didn't want to lose some other functionality unless it was worth it. So do you know if I have to go back and apply the previous update before I can apply the one that just came through?
Depends on what you've done to the phone since then. If you've modded, removed, added or replaced anything then you'll probably have to odin flash the stock build to get the update. But why do that when you can just odin the updated build!
