[Q] What messaging app is everyone using?

The most popular are definetly Gosms and Handcent; but, apparently there was a trojan found in the most recent release of Gosms. I am currently using the stock messenger because of its simplicity (don't like a messy interface) and I want to change. Handcent and Gosms are both too complicated for me, sure I like options but not 1000+ options. What's a simple, fast, and good messenger app that uses very little ram (preferably less than stock). Yes I know, you don't need to worry about ram with android;however, I worry about it regardless.

I'm using stock for now. Hopefully go SMS fixes real or false positive Trojan. Handcent 4.0 suppose to be coming out guess I'll be trying that soon.

I used to use GoSMS on my HTC phones since stock HTC messaging looks like no one tried on it lol, but on this one I'm definitely sticking to the stock messaging app.

I personally prefer hand cent been using it since mytouch 3g days

I use ChompSMS. I tried Handcent and GoSMS. I didn't like them.

Anyone else have an issue with the stock messaging app -always- sending delivery report notifications, even which not checked in the menu settings?
Every message I send, comes back with another notification saying "Delivered"
Annoying, and I can't figure it out.
(Using Darkside Rom)

Are you guys able to use picture messaging on handcent sms? I deleted stock app cuz I never use it and after deleting stock sms app, MMS doesn't work on handcent sms

GoSMS. You can customize it to almost look like the ICS stock sms.

I prefer the cm7 stock with ics theme, its easy to do and it works great with spoofed SMS... why would you spend time customizing when you could just change the theme to look like ics???

hmm there are two delivery report options for stock are both unchecked? try turning it on and off... if not clear cache and data for it? (this doesn't delete your messages from what i remember)

I thought handcent uses their own mms settings... you should check the settings within handcent.

Whatsapp messenger... funny icons/no mms problems/sent via data so good for international/roaming.
Of course, the person your texting has to have it installed too...

i use handcent..fully customized ..different fonts and themes...many options with pop ups...i tried them all i keep going back to it..lol..

I'm using the stock messenger app. My favorite is handcent though. My past phones were all HTC's and a Dell Streak so I found a better one than those stock apps but I don't mind using the stock one. I will probably be looking into changing it though pretty soon.

The stock one is pretty cool.

Looks cool and not bloated.

I have been using Handcent for years now. Simply because the customization of notifications. That way I usually mute the twitter updates that are forwarded to my phone, but when someone else msg me, I can hear the notification sounds.

Mms on cm10

I currently have cm10 and use gosms I had previously frozen yhe stock messaging app since i use go sms.The only issue was that mms didnt come in until i unfroze the stock messagin app.the onoy reason why i froze it was because i didnt want two messaging apps running in the background wasting resources.Is there a way to have mms work without having both apps running.

Unfreeze it, it wont run in the background.
If go sms is your default, android knows not to run other things in the background that youre not using.
There are no "wasted resources" when using Android or Linux

[REQUEST] Inverted Stock SMS app with MMS working?!?!

Hi, Im using Darthstalker v8 TW rom for my GS3 T-Mobile and i dont like using the sms app that comes with touchwiz. I flashed an inverted sms app for 4.1 with working popup, quick message and sms. But when I try to send a mms or try viewing a mms, the app force closes. Does anyone know of an INVERTED stock sms app with working sms,mms,quick reply, pop up etc? Thanks in advance.

Handcent dosent work for mms on 4.2 JB

I have tried and failed to get Handcent to send mms. Only the stock messaging app on 4.2 roms will send pics or video.. I went back to stock 4.1 and it works perfectly. Handcent that is . This is with a vzw gnex btw. It must be a bug in the marketmessaging apps because none of them work properly. Try it out and see what you can find. For me the font isnt big enough with the stock app.

I run handcent on my stock Google bought gnex on tmobile. Running the latest version on 4.2.1 and it works for me. Sometimes the message won't send from the app so I have to switch to the stock mms app though.

This has been discussed thoroughly. Use gosms pro or whatever its called and then search the forum for the fix

[Q] Unfortunately, contacts has stopped working

Hi,
I have a rooted s4 running 4.2.2. I have not frozen any thing or uninstalled since rooting. I have it for the purpose of titanium backup, greenify, and root explorer.. And to increase my knowledge of smartphone technology.
There is a problem ever since I change my number through T-Mobile the other day. I go into batch select mode for multiple email or SMS and every time I do it on my contacts screen or my message screen it freezes and brings me to my home screen with the error message "unfortunately, contacts has stopped working".
I have researched this topic and have pulled my battery out for 40minutes and turned back on. Cleared cache on messages and tried to find a work around. (Originally my problem was discovered from messages going into batch select contacts mode. So I tried to batch select contact for SMS and email through contacts option itself.. Same problem). It doesn't sound like messages is the problem..
Has anyone had this problem and if so can you share.

Try this:
Go into settings>more and click on "Application Manager" then scroll to the "All" tab
and find contacts and click on it and clear data & cache.
Then click the back button and you will see contact storage, clear data & cache on it too.
Once your done reboot the phone and see if it still errors out for you.
Good luck!

So the only thing that came out of me following the above instructions was me lossing my ability to send out going text messages.... I had to titanium restore my messenger data...
So if you have this problem do not follow that suggestion. Keep em coming though ???

Stock rom and rooted? Just flash a custom rom and see if your problem is gone.

Got a suggestion for a ROM?
I don't play games on my phone, and there is no need to over clock as it runs like a champ. The only thing I am correctly using is apex launcher. I haven't been messing around with different ROMs because I don't know which ones to trust.

There are some good ones to choose from. You just need to try them out.
I have one in Android Development...but dont wanna advertise it. Just read about each rom and flash the one thats fits your requirements.

Hey, I am in the same exact situation as you. I really don't want to flash any roms or anything like that. Rooted my phone for tethering and titanium manager...that's it...but now when I try to message multiple people via contacts I get the same error. Any progress regarding this matter would be much appreciated.

If your running Apex launcher also try going back to touch Wiz launcher and see if that clears the issue.

Running Nova Prime
Cleared the data for Contacts and Contacts Storage in Apps Manager and the rebooted.. no luck
Went to TouchWiz, contacts didn't work
Went to ADW and contacts worked
Finally went back to Nova and contacts worked!!! :laugh:
