Hi folks, with this app you can select any application to be launched on home double tap button / bluetooth longpress.
Requires a Samsung-based rom
no Cyanogen/AOSP/AOKP, sorry. UPDATE: for non-sammy ROMS you can use Home2 Shortcut (thanks to InfiniteRecall).
Only one rule: my app use the same package name of Samsung Voice Control (I've chosen the easy way to do this hack ), so you have to delete /system/app/VoiceToGo.apk (if your rom include it) and reboot before installing the attached .apk.
In last leaked Ice Cream Sandwich roms I've found VoiceToGo is in different location:
XXLP2 > /system/app/vlingo.apk
XXLPB > /data/app/com.vlingo.client.samsung-1.apk
</useful information>
I've written this app simply because I don't like Samsung Voice control, I was using Vlingo on my Nexus One and I think it was much more efficent and less Samsung-centric. Afterwards I decided to share it with you, so I added an activity to choose any installed application.
Hope you'll like it as I do, suggestions&donations are welcome.
CHANGELOG
1.0 (12/10/11)
- first release
1.1 (13/10/11)
- changed app launch mode (google talk fc)
- changed save preference mode to work without sqlite sync (toast confirmation didn't appear, app didn't close itself automatically, and settings was lost on restart, if you had this problem uninstall and reinstall)
1.2 (15/07/13)
- Jelly Bean version (thanks e495957 for testing) - UNINSTALL PREVIOUS VERSION BEFORE
Removed the apk and installed ur app, but when i click on an app i want to use, nothing happens. running on 2.3.4 KH3
Ah it did work, just needed a reboot. and it kind of needs a confirmation of the app you've chosen.
One way or another, nice app ^^
a toast notification is shown when you select the app, at least on my phone
do you had VoiceToGo.apk?
maybe a reboot is needed anyway, waiting for other experiences
Thank you very much c3k, i'll test it now. It was on my todo list
edit: works perfect. thanks man
This is a great idea, i cant download it at present but will try this tonight
Thanks
Hey c3k,
GREAT application! Comes closest to a solution for the lack of a dedicated search hardware button, like the O2x has. Great, great, great! Thanks a bunch.
And, errrr, by the way, selecting the application to launch in the list on my SGS2 also throws a toast notification. Very intuitive and spartan interface, doesn't exactly need a manual. Props!

Thanks, works perfectly , I don't need voice control often, but it would be cool if we could use it anyway (but not on double tap), is there a way you could do this?

Hello will this launch a app on the homescreen by double tap?
That would be cool then we have no more unwanted apps starting by accident.

Yeah I set it to poweramp and loving it. But would be a nice option to get a quick launcher on double tap. Been searching the market but no good options for me.

I think is possible, but it's a complete different work...

You can install Vlingo (is the reason because this app exists!)
I'm not sure, but I think it has all the Samsung Voice Command features (beacause Vlingo team made it), but it works better (at least with my voice) and it's more flexible.
No way to install Samsung Voice Command and homeMYhome on the same device...

No we are talking about home BUTTON double tap
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.crazyricky.advhomebutton
this one is long time in the market and has a better interface...
wooops, world is always smaller than one can think
my app is still slightly different: I don't replace the home application (so it can continue to work as android engineers designed), I take advantage of the service that samsung puts on his firmware just to launch the voice app (the same service that the app you report seems to irremediably kill)
...and it works from the lookscreen too!

So that app kills the process and creates its own? And your app keeps this ssamsung process and makes a different use of it, right?
Edit: You convinced me. Ok, so I'm choosing your app
Erm file is not supported on my phone..?
How do I undo this??? I downloaded it and decided I didn't want to use it, cleared data and uninstalled, no my double tap does nothing.... I want my "recent apps" back.

Can somebody please make an APK allowing installing the GB keyboard alongside the ICS one?
With all due respect- the ICS stock keyboard sucks. The GB stock keyboard was awesome!
Please help!!!
Just download it from the market.
EXT LTE Galaxy Nexus - 4.0.4
Asus Transformer - ICS
Actually, I extracted the LatinIME.APK from a CyanogenMod 7 file.
Then used Root Explorer to install it.
My fear is, and I have yet to check, that installing a new nightly (which I do whenever a new one become available) will reinstall the ICS keyboard over it.
Although I could go through the process of manually reinstalling the Gingerbread keyboard, I would much rather have a solution which doesn't require that.
https://market.android.com/search?q=gingerbread+keyboard&c=apps
This is the oddest problem I have ever heard.... what do you like more about the gingerbread keyboard?

Yeah I'd also like to know why you prefer the GB keyboard as opposed to the very similar but slightly better looking ICS keyboard?

First and foremost- swiping the space bar in order to switch between languages.
Excellent keyboard but that of gingerbread ics remains better in my opinion!
Updates:
Switched from the KANG version to the official nightly.
My workaround seemed to work on the KANG version, but doesn't on the official nightlies.
I agree that the ICS keyboard looks better.
I would very much appreciate it if anyone could create an APK for the ICS keyboard which allows swiping the space bar in order to switch languages.
I don't really know why this feature was dropped. Maybe I just don't know how to set it up. If you do- please educate me.
Thanks!
I have no idea why ics keyboard doesn't have the swipe keyboard support for changing language input. this is a step backwards for android.
You can toggle multiple language support in the keyboard settings,Then just long press the space bar

I don't want to long press the space bar. I want to swipe it.

Well from your original post you did say swipe but you didn't make it clear that you were aware of the long press feature,I was just trying to be helpful & being rude or a smart ass isn't helpful nor does it earn you brownie points!!!
Besides,Swiping & long pressing aren't exactly day & night. It takes maybe a millisecond more to long press than to swipe.

I was neither rude nor a smart ass.
Just to be clear- long pressing the space bar isn't enough. You need to select the language too (yet another redundant press).
I don't know about day and night, but for me the difference is noticeable.
I'm still looking for a better solution than my current one. Would very much appreciate help, wherever and whoever it comes from.

Right on,Maybe I took it the wrong way.Yeah that's true,It's definitely not ideal. What about a ICS themed GB keyboard,That way you will have the functionality you seek while maintaining the ICS look? If that sounds good I could do that for you.

I'm thinking of requesting the swipe functionality from the guys at work on CM9. I'm pretty sure they can handle it.
Thanks for your help anyway. It is indeed much appreciated.
Oh no....u have to take an extra second to do something! Better go tell Google to stop ics updates...

there's an app for that... go to the play store and search for an app called perfect keyboard. don't remember if it costs anything but not only can you choose the 123 board as an option, you can also theme the keyboard and resize it to match your current theme. try it out!
Hey auto thanks for the reply but the screenshot that I posted foes the same thing. But I actually was trying to stay away from using a third party keyboard. Wanted yo mow if a dev could implement the number pad within the stock ics keyboard. But thanks for the suggestion though. I will try our perfect if all else fails. I used to use better keyboard with the old android but ics keyboard rocks!

I knew about that... As he said, I don't want third party apps. I am looking for something REALLY simple. A numeric keypad, just like the stock one when you open something that request it (when you're setting the time on Alarm app). Maybe a tweak to make it user openable?

Sorry if this has already been posted or in wrong section, and I take no credit for it but I found it to be pretty cool. To add soft keys to rooted stock touchwiz rom all you have to do is add this line to the build prop and reboot.

Agree with you. I am using the same method on my HD2 CM9 for 8 months now.
My SGS3 will arrive today and I am glad that this method will apply to rooted stock rom. Was wondering if this method CM rom only or also stock rom.
Thank you for your information.
IMO this method is way better than some softkey apps because it doesn't use ram and is native like.

I would love to disable my hard keys. I am new at this stuff, so forgive my ignorance.
I have a t-mobile unlocked 32gb white rooted with AOKP jellybean- 4th release
And I cannot find any other mods to the physical buttons, like making the home button a camera button. Not as important, but would love to know if you can tell me.
Thanks!

Is there a way to customize the "Recent" soft key to "Menu"? When I added the script while using the CM10 rom, I could change them around in the navigation settings. I recently switched back to the stock JB version, but added soft keys because my hardkeys stopped working after I dropped it in a spa

Is there any way to make the Soft Keys smaller.. (at least 50% smaller than its original size/height)... its because my phone (the Galaxy S Advance) has a resolution of only 480x800.... I just feel like there is not enough space on my screen to be honest, that's why I'm asking this....
