Band Selection (1900mhz) in Cyanogemod 10.1? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I don't have a SGS3 on hand to double check myself. Can someone tell me if you can select the radio band (USA 1900mhz) via *#*#4636#*#*. From what I understand Google broke it in 4.2.2.
Can someone running CM10.1 check for me please?

Just tested and was taken to a "Testing" page and the only radio option I could spot is "Turn off radio." Sorry I'm not technically inclined enough yet to understand what you are trying to accomplish but I hope this helps you.
I am running the latest nightly of CM on my T999.

If you push the menu button at the screen you should see an option for "Band Selection" then selecting "USA Band" will force the phone to use t-mobile's new 1900mhz towers.

Ahhh yes. How could I possibly overlook my menu button lol I feel dumb.
I can confirm this for you now that this option does pull up from the menu button.

Can you see USA band?

No, that doesn't show for me however I have a hunch that might have something to do with me being on the old baseband ending in "A" and not the new one ending in "C" maybe?
I'm probably wrong, you'll need a second person to check this for consistency.

I know you asked about cm10.1 but on tw i can manually force it to use 1900 band by dialing *#2263# and on the menu that shows up, you can select WCDMA band preference, and then it'll give you different options.. I tried it once on 1900 but my signal was worse maybe someone else can try it

Thanks, Google actually broke the option with some bad code in their update to 4.2.2. A fix is out there but CM hasn't picked it up universally yet. see http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/32032/

Thanks to you also, I have a family friend who lives in the area of a broken 1700/2100 tower. So using 1900mhz is the only option for him. we have it working on TW based roms. I wanted to get him to switch to CM but without being able to force 3g to 1900mhz it's a no go.
Thanks to both you guys. :good:

What????? Also YOU probably should look up sprint's policy on servicing devices experiencing hardware failure as opposed to posting nonsense in the wrong forum about a topic that can be better answered by looking at 1. Sprints website 2. Sprint online chat 3. Sprint telephone support (*2 from your sprint device!) or 4. By any employee at a sprint store... just saying... should all of those options fail there's this new thing they tell me the kids are calling "the google's", that may also help...

Why do you guys have to be such snooty little bags of DICKS? Just answer his damn question. Or nevermind, I will....
Sprint is now packing in an app called Sprint Connection Optimizer on many of the latest OTA updates. This will make it check for the best connection to use in this order: (Wi-Max Market) Wi-Fi, 4G, 3G; (Non-WiMax market): Wi-Fi, 3G. This is an effort to free up capacity on the data network for people who are just stuck on 3G cruise control when they don't realize better connections are available around them, such as WiFi or WiMax. Our 3G network is starting to vomit all over itself, so while we wait for the long-term solution (Network Vision) to roll out, they are using the Sprint Connections Optimizer as a short-term band-aid solution.

Yea, should be in Q/A.
Anyway, have you tried to get a free unlock code from ATT?
Firsty, wrong section.
Secondly, search on xda or google for an answer to your question. Already too many threads on the internet.
Thirdly, if you are frustrated about AT&T charging you like crazy then switch providers.
Lastly, if you still have any concerns, read this post all over again.

Not sure that will work and might brick your device. The hardware is different so even an unlocked AT&T phone will only get edge on T-Mobile.

HD Voice or WB-AMR disabled by default on T-Mobile's GS4

Just picked up GS4 from a corp store, and immediately noticed the call quality not being on par with other HD Voice devices like GS3, HTC One, iPhone 5. Called my gf who has iPhone 5 dialed into the ServiceMode while on call and Voila... only AMR 12.2 kbit/s which is narrowband AMR-NB at Full Rate.
Is there a way to enable HD Voice without rooting or it's inevitable?
thanks!

Apparently some ROM's have it enabled and there's a way to enable it on an older baseband then upgrade back to keep the setting. I haven't seen a way to enable AMR-WB on MDL however.

I finally installed Wicked ROM that enabled it, then I flashed it to VirginROM GPe based, and it's still on with ServiceMode out of TW. Love it!
If you're considering GPe GS4, you're better off getting T-Mobile's variant since they share the same FCC ID for $579 and flash the ROM. Plus you can get it in Black
For some reason it sounds like some calls are extremely clear (HD), this seems to be the case only when both parties have 4g LTE (t-mobile). Not sure if this setting is variable or not depending on reception.

AMR-WB is active only when both parties are within the T-Mobile's Network, and both parties' phones are AMR-WB capable.
Interesting to note that mine had previously been off, but I too flashed a new ROM (Alpha 6.0) then went back to stock ROM, and voila, it's listed as on. I will try and make a test call and report back if it works.
EDIT: I does in fact work now calling my coworker with T-Mobile on his Note 2.

Internal photos

If anyone's interested, the FCC just released their photos of the Verizon One's internals:
https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...ame=N&application_id=986316&fcc_id=NM8PN07310
Looks like we have the same Qualcomm MDM9615 modem as the Sprint variant, FWIW.
EDIT: There's also a WTR1605L transceiver inside that can apparently handle all LTE bands. Any possibility of unlocking support for AWS band 4 LTE?
AWS will most likely become available once it becomes more readily available.

The problem is we haven't gotten any update like on the S4 that explicitly says band 4 has been enabled and the FCC test reports don't show any info about it either. I'm wondering if they left out official support for it like on the Nexus 4, and if there's some way we could force on AWS in the firmware.

honestly, though. if Spirit FM can't get it working, nothing can. (except Verizon, but who would expect THAT to happen!)

I have the app installed (it came installed on EclipticONE), but the radio is never able to find a station to tune to anything. Based on my searching, it looks like almost all, if not all recent Verizon phones have had FM Radio disconnected in the hardware, so it's not something a software fix will work on. Verizon is just trying to find another way to charge us for data by forcing us to stream radio if we want local stations. (Luckily I still have unlimited data!)

Should be ATT thing then, or is it non native network?
Come to think of it, it actually makes sense, if you switch sim cards back and forth or have dual sim adapter this could be life saver to know which network you're currently using, imagine, you think you're on T-mo and instead make international calls on ATT sim, ouch. I wonder if the network name will show up if using non T-mo card on T-mo phone?

It's an ATT thing - it's even labeled as such in the SystemUI if you go poking around in it. The connection type doesn't matter in this case, it's the fact that the phone identifies itself as an ATT variant that it shows.
so this is an N900A specific thing then ? It's not rooted and was bought at launch from att store.
