Phone details: -------------------------------
model: Samsung Note II GT-N7100
Android: 4.1.2
Kernel: 3.0.31-679347
build: JZO54K.N7100XXDMB2
----------------------------------------------------
Hi,
i decided to post my problem here after Samnsug
told me that this prolem has never been found until now;
Many thanks to those who want to help me...
Problem specs:
The phone has been bought in France (November 2012) and is currently used in Italy;
It's a full stock phone and it's always been upgraded through OTA;
after the upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 the phone presents these problems:
it's unable to connect with usb (many Windows pc tried with same rasult): at first the phone connects in mtp mode, but after 1 sec the connection is broken;
it can't be turned off... when i push the turn off button it reboots;
it can't enter Recovery mode (vol_UP+...), only download mode is availabe (vol_down_+...);
Solutions tried:
i've used different usb cables during the tests and i've checked the usb male connector on the phone;
i've tried the factory reset (SETTINGS > BACKUP > FACTORY_RESET) with no changes...after the reboot there're the same problems;
i would try "Wipe cache" from recovery but it can't be loaded (view problem_3);
i've installed NoteIItoolkit on my computer to try loading CMW recovery, but the phone isn't recognized;
-------------- update ------------
2013-03-11_17:24 - This afternoon i've succeeded in rooting the phone with odin and i've flashed CWD recovery (cwm6-root-n7100-121015);
i've done a data/factory reset and a "wipe dalvik cache" but... the problem is still there...
the phone can't be turned off and it does not connect in mtp mode to the pc (i've installed 3 times the drivers on two different Windows 7 machines);
Try taking the battery out, leave it out for 2 minutes and put it back in, reboot and see if you can turn off the phone normally.
If you want to enter recovery and wipe cache, you should first have a custom recovery on the phone. Download the drivers and try again.
Try the flashing stock rom portion of the rooting thread. See if it helps.

I had this problem at galaxy s ii, was faulty usb port, put the battery out and try to clean the port with a toothbrush or something. U can find guides at internet how to clean it.

I think is not possible to understand by looking at it if is okay or not. Try to clean it but with caution and the battery out. In my case stoped after cleaning it. Google it to find instructions for cleaning.

I cant seem to get odin 3 to work on my xp computer(service pack 2) Tried it on my friends computer (window 7) and worked like a charm!(on stock samsung usb cord) Here the crazy part, It recognizes the phone when its on. But in download mode it wont do anything and my computer pops up a message saying usb device is malfunction and cant find the drivers at all. Steps i down to try to fix
reinstall drivers
try to install drivers in download mode phone connected- somehow it finds files that didnt install the first time.
Different usb cables- stock, htc evo, blackberry, and generic brand
Even plugged up to back of motherboard no difference
Going on what i searched and read up on this forum and internet searches etc..
i was thinking maybe its my eset nod 32 virus system???
Seems like my epic experience isnt going good as i hope. Had an evo for almost a year. Then sold evo got epic(epic is brand new) rooted on di18 and running baked snack 1.6 with custom kernal for now. But seems like everybody on 2.2 so i need to figure out how to get this working???? Any help would be nice!!!!
Anybody I know I'm not the only one with this problem?
Yea been running into that problem, I think odin just don't like some computers. I've tried to find a fix before, but I have 1 computer that runs odin fine, so I gave up tryn to fix the others..

Well that sucks. I know there gotta be something to get it to work? Maybe I should try upgrading windows to pro 3??
Update- uninstall nod 32 still no go? Going to try upgrading to pro 3
Try a different file in Odin .... are you trying with only the EB13 file ??
computer wont recognize phone in download with odin. But it will when phone is on and usb debugging is on
you are starting odin first then plugging the phone in while in download mode?
yes message pops up at bottom of screen saying device is unknown or malfunction. Its like the computer acts like their aren't any usb drivers installed.
but when I turn on phone, plug it into computer odin sees it. Com4 or com5. Adb interface is on and computer can see as removable disk?

This might seem like a trivial answer, but have you tried rebooting your computer?
Then, as stated early, re-open ODIN, put your phone in download mode, then plug in the phone?
yea even tried pdanet and that didn't work. Restarted and tried nothing. I guess its that time for a new computer
@iSaint
This is just creepy
But strangely hypnotic

I updated my wife's ET4G to ICS using sfhub's one click Odin method. The update has been terrible with the battery draining in about 3 hours. Android OS is running at about 90% and I can't figure out why. I am trying to downgrade back to EL29 and both are laptops are not recognizing the phone. This morning, it did make the connections and the drivers installed on my phone but it's still not recognizing USB storage. Anyone experience this and have a solution?
Anyone? Bump
ICS stock uses MTP instead of USB storage, also if you're using sfhub One-Click just put the phone in download mode and go at it with Odin.
As rovar said. You can just use sfhub's one click EL29 to go back to stock.
However, you can also use sfhub's Autoroot package to enable USB Mode in the extra options to change from MTP to USB storage mode.
A for battery there MUST be something running that is killing your battery. I've done more than a few stock rooted ff18's and though the battery consumption isn't as good as on gingerbread it's still nut that bad. Look for things that are synching continually. Or 4g and other network services that are 'continually' searching. Those will kill battery.
I've gotten over 12 hours with Agat's mildly themed ROM (and his kernels) with a few hours of screen time. With Blazer ROM I get even better!

Thanks. I was trying to use the one-click but while in download mode, i'd plug in phone and would get nothing in Odin. Gonna try again when I get home. Also will try to enable USB Storage too. Thanks!
6% left of battery, granted I've debloated it for the most part but have a few wifi dependant applications running. Reflashed yesterday so the phone is still setting on itself.

Try a different cable. Sometimes the cable gets borked.
Pp.

Verify that you are using the right one click odin:

As someone mentioned get a GOOD usb cable - I've seen this cause many problems and waste tons of time; for me especially.
Make sure you grab the Samsung drivers from one of sfhub's posts (where you downloaded the One-click)
Make sure the phone is charged at least 50% before you start. Turn it off and let it charge for a while.
With you phone NOT connected to the PC start the One-click.
Then
Put your phone into download mode - Power on + Volume Down until first screen. Then click the Volume Up to confirm and go into Download mode.
Then attache you phone to the PC and it should show up on a COM port.
Then click start and your done with that part.
To change the storage mode from MTP to USB use sfhub's 'Autoroot' package. There is a section in options to do this. Read his posts thoroughly they are very well written and precise.
Good luck.
I rooted my phone and am on Modded I317_N7105ZHALJ4 MultiWindow Control rom, Now when I connect my phone to my PC it would pop up the following message

I don't think this happened because of my root or the Rom. Can't remember when It happened.
Do I received a phone with a defective USB port? It charges fine though. Should I go exchange it, and how many day do I have to do this?

Did you try to install anything like adb or android SDK or anything like that? Try completely uninstalling the driver, re foot the system, reinstall the driver, without plugging the phone in restart again and then plug it in and try again.

^^^THANKS!!!
I uninstalled the Android driver, rebooted, ran windows update, and rebooted. Plugged in my phone and all is normal again.
D/C > check USB debugging in setting > reconnect. Does the trick everytime for me

Samsungs website has the driver you need
I've usually got to turn off usb debugging and switch the connection type on the phone to camera mode from media which can be done from the notification menu when connected.

I still cant get it to work with Windows 7 64bit, I've uninstalled rebooted, installed, rebooted, connected phone, MTP installs then after a reboot I get Hardware ID missing. Very frustrating.
Could really use some ideas here, once I get it installed and the computer acknowledges (sees) the Note I can't copy files to it. Whenever I try Windows Explorer just crashes and restarts, every time. Getting very frustrated, Kies doesn't even work right what an abortion it is to begin with. I cant be taking my battery cover off every time I want to add media to my phone.
Any ideas?
I get the same thing, if I disconnect and reconnect the usb to the phone it eventually connects , but reinstalls the drivers every time. Sometimes I have to reconnect 8 or 10 times. Tried different cables as well.
Hello buddies,
I am having a sort of problem with my M8.
Just to make it clear from the beginning I'm pretty much a noob in this.
So after I got my phone debranded byba rooting method and had twrp installed I wanted to flash the stock recovery in my device so I can get OTA updates.
The momental state of the device: stock firmware 1.54.401.10, S-On, tempered, unlocked bootloader.
At first everything was going fine, but when I typed the command to erase cache before flashing the recovery.img, cmd in my pc crashed.
Now when I connect my device, in cmd I can see it only when I check usb debugging, when it's unchecked there isn't any device on the list unauthorised like it should be.
When I enter the command to reboot into fastboot, my device just reboots and when I get into fastboot manually cmd doesnt recognize it.
Just to make clear I don't think it's the drivers fault, I installed/uninstalled them several times and tried it in another pc and the same thing happens.
I messed up again something with the drivers, now I get two devices with the same name in fastboot

Firstly I installed a tiny program for drivers, where i uninstalled all the drivers which had been in relation with the phone(i can't remember the program name, i will post it later when i'm at home) then i revoked the usb debugging and connected my phone with usb debug off and let the pc install the drivers by itself. After that i checked debugging and fastboot recognized it with adb devices, i rebooted into bootloader and typed fastboot devices(it showed my device).
Flashed the recovery and done

Like some kind of PC clean-up program?
I knew it had to be a driver issue, but the fastboot response you were getting was odd or at least new to me. So glad you sorted it out. Nice work!

i thought it was a usb problem and i replaced it(its a cable and its easy and cheap) but the problem its still there... i think it might be a software problem, but i cant change the firmware in any way because i cant connect it to kies or odin, anyone had this problem? i dont know what else to do
sorry for my english
Have you tried a factory reset (backup any apps, photos, music, etc first).

I did that when i replaced the usb cable, but still didnt worked
If you can copy files to the SD or Ext SD, then you might try rooting it. Then you could try a different ROM. I rooted mine following this thread but you would need to use Odin.
There are some threads in the General section about rooting without Odin...you might check those.
And you might uninstall/reinstall Samsung drivers on your PC to see if you can get a connection after that. You might have a bad USB port (not the cable, but the part in your Tab)
