one v or lg l7 - HTC One V

Hi
I'm hesitant to purchase these two phones! (I wanted the phone to my dad)
In terms of build quality which you think is the best?

Build quality go for one v
Aluminum finish what say?

for performance, Games and awesome custom roms go for One V (adreno 205 and a newer cpu)
for awesome looks and screen size LG L7 (adreno 200) xda forum recently started for this phone. not many roms
source :http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/LG-Optimus-L7,HTC-One-V/phones/6943,6850

Go for one v! Great build quality and looks

one v better ...
More convenient custom Brush ...

[Q] DHD or DZ

hi,
i wanted to ask which phone should i go for, the desire HD or desire Z ... which one is better in performance an has less flaws... the desire z looks weak- for exsample if it would fall on the ground would it break because of the loose hinge, the desire hd - soome people say that the screen is less crisp than the desire Zs and also DHD looks very very big (is it too big) ... so i ask you guys to help me decide which one should i buy .
greetings
The Desire HD is better in performance as far as I know.
The screen aint that big, it fits in your hand and it's nice to browse on the internet with a bigger screen.

1 Better in performance = generally desire HD, because of higher stock speed.
2 Build = desire HD HECK in my honest opinion the z-hinge wasnt a wise design. (i could be wrong)
3 screen = In my opinion if you'd like high res screens you should go for desire-Z. When placed side by side with desire HD, I think the colours look a slightly more vivid.
AH but of course, I've been using my phone(DHD) for 1 month and i can't differentiate between the individual pixels when my eyes are more than 7 cm from the screen. So all in all , I dont think the resolution of the screen screen is a problem of the DHD.
Main disadvantages of the DHD is that sometimes your pocketablility(LOL) is affected at some times, because of its sheer size.(especially if you LOVE wearing skinnys). Not a problem for me though.
If the hinge on the Z is made as well as that on the G1 you'll be fine. The G1 is virtually bomb proof and after two years and several drops the hinge works perfectly. I'd say you could take quality out of the equation.
The DHD is beter spec'd.
But I really I would have thought the choice comes down to whether or not you want a physical keyboard. As for size, go to a store, check them both out. I find the Z (as with the G1) feels bulkier than the DHD both in hand and pocket.
The dhd looks big and ungainly but the erotic curve on the back means it sits nicely in the hand.
Someone swyped my idea.

I'd say, if you really need a hardware keyboard, then go for the Desire Z, but if your willing to trade the keyboard for a bigger screen then go for the Desire HD. In terms of performance, desire HD is better:
Desire HD vs Desire Z:
768mb RAM vs 512mb RAM
1ghz snapdragon vs MSM 800mhz
and higher stock scores in quadrant...
I love my desire HD, i dont think its too big and i love the size of the screen. Both are solid in terms of build quality, and as for screen, i think the desire z has better colours and contrast, but the screen is still amazing, but in pixel density i didnt really notice a huge difference.
Only if you need the hardware keyboard then go for the desire z, otherwise desire HD.
I have had both, and I'm in love with the DHD, but the Z is a great phone also... DHD FTW
Sent from my Ginger Garnished HTC Desire HD
Before reviving my DHD I was worried it would be massive in hand and bulky in pocket, I thought the screen size would suit my large hands.
It was the right decision, the phone looks big compared to a iPhone for example until you place them on top of one another and see its only slightly bigger. The screen is great, again you can only see the pixels if you put your face on the screen, from normal distance the screen is crisp and natural.
In pocket its skimmer than my wallet and un-noticeable. Great build quality oh and fast.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the replies
you helped me a lot

im going to buy DHD

the desire z uses a 2nd generation snapdragon like us, an although the clock speed is only 800mhz, its easly on par if not better than the 1gig snapdragon in the classic desire

Yes it is a 2nd gen snapdragon but it is a different model MSM 7230 800 MHz processor whereas desire HD uses QSD 8255 1ghz chip. Definatley both are better than the classic desire becuase they use a 45nm process vs the 65nm process. The 2nd gen also uses the adreno 205 gpu as apose to the adreno 200 in the 1st gen snapdragon. But the desire HD is said to have a stronger processor than the desire z overall.

[Q] Considering buying a Wildfire S for my girlfriend

Title says it all. My girlfriend had a Nokia X3-02, and the mainboard broke twice within a month, so I'm not going back to Nokia. Thinking about letting her try Android.
Anyway, found a Wildfire S for $130 (USD), thought it might be worth a try. I'm also considering a Wildfire, but the screen resolution seems kinda low.
What I need out of it:
1) Stock rom + root + recovery + custom kernal + overclock --> found these in the forums
2) Ability to store apps on SD card. The internal memory is small from what I understand. It's got Android 2.3, so it should already have this, right?
3) Good battery life for music and movies. She listens to a lot of music.
4) Idiot proof and very very easy to use. My girlfriend is a total idiot when it comes to cellphones. She's never had a phone without a physical keypad. I almost considered buying her an older Iphone, but then I came to my senses.
Is there anything I should be aware of about this phone, good or bad? Or can someone suggest a better phone for the same price or less (used is OK)?
I've got a Huawei U8800 for myself, and it's awesome, but I think it's a little too expensive to get one for her.
I think this would be a great phone for her because it has everything she would need.
Also this would be a huge upgrade from the Nokia X3-02

High end phones are expensive. $130 is actually a bit more than I want to pay, I paid about $80 for the X3-02, but the wildfire s looks pretty good for the price. I don't even buy high end phones for myself because they're not worth it. Too many pickpockets here in China. I'm looking for a good value, something that won't break easily, or at least be easy to fix if it does.
And she won't learn. The perfect example is she just brought my tf101 to me asking how to open YouKu (chinese youtube), for the 15th time. But she loves to cook and clean, and a few other things.
Not sure, but Wildfire S with CM7.2 and LINK2SD with a big SD card should be good. Or a stock rom.
Sony xperia ray is better for a girl. Without overclock/custom rom, wildfire s is annoying even when answering a call and battery sucks no matter what.

Then buy a Samsung galaxy ace plus ,it is much more better than HTC wildfire s and is about the same price

Samsung galaxy ace plus = $245, way too expensive
Sony Xperia Ray = $175, I like it but still too expensive.
We don't get our phones on contract here, we just buy the phones and buy minutes and data.
Also, just saw the ZTE Blade for around $110. That might be interesting. One of my students is head of research at ZTE, I'll ask him about it.
The HTC Wildfire S would fit here needs.
htc wildfire s is not the phone she wants.....got many problems with battery, internal memory and touch screen.....u from china right?if u like samsung.....try galaxy ace, fit, pop
if u like lg......try optimus p500....if u like htc.....try htc pico(explorer)....
I've got no brand loyalty. I like good values, good quality for a good price. Also I'm not from China, I'm American but I live in China. I'll look into the phones you mentioned deepakskht1.

You are much better off buying a high end last gen device than a low end current gen device.
phone ideas
hey buddy. my gf has just recently got the sony xperia mini pro. which i can vouch is a pretty nice phone. has a hardware keyboard which slides out. comes with 2.3.5 gingerbread, 5mp camera and front facing vga camera. i have not looked into the development side of it as she is not really into it, but the stock phone runs smooth and fast and is quite hardy little device that can survive the odd hard bump or two. i got it from work for £139 sterling, so not sure how much you would get it for there.
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_mini_pro-3713.php phone is here ^^
but for someone whos not great with tec and never had a touch screen phone i would definatly recommend this phone

Actually, that's where I stand now. The optimus V is the same as the P500, I think. I got it narrowed down to a couple of models:
Wildfire S = $75
Lg Optimus P500 (Korea Version) = $75
Lg Optimus P500 (Europe Version) = $90
Lg C660 = $65
I'm leaning towards the Korean P500, assuming it either has Chinese as a system language, or the rom can be modified to add Chinese. Unfortunately the Korean version of the P500 can't use European roms. I'm not sure how to add a system language, but I don't think it can be that difficult.
best option for u will be htc explorer....it has better processor & better UI. and its cheaper than WFS. Just camera will make a difference as it got only 3.2mp against 5mp in WFS

I would buy my gf and myself an htc one x, if I got the money. Otherwise a desire is also nice, I have seen the real thing, its smooth and nice its like a big wildfire s, just dont mind the scroll sensor, it looks ugly in desire pics but in real it looks nice with big screen etc. You decide.

Ive owned the lg optimus V (same as p500/Optimus One) and it was a great phone, i wished i never sold it for my wildfire S, the build quality of the optimus is far better then the wildfire s, under the back cover its nice aluminum and its durable, feels good in hands. Specs are pretty much the same in comparison but the LG has no flash (for camera) ebay has them cheap! But if you do get the wildfire s, its a good phone nothing more or less.

[Poll] Which device are you coming from? Are you happy with One X?

I started a new thread to see what do you think for HTC One X and which device are you coming from ?
My first android device was HTC Desire HD and after that i replaced it with the Samsung Galaxy SII but i was missing HTC Sense a lot plus every time i flashed a new ROM the recovery was not the same on the GSII and the development was pretty much the same on every ROM, so i decided to go back and get an HTC device and a got the One X and i am very happy with it!
Happy users: Display, Sense, Design, Internal storage, Camera
Unhappy users: S-ON, Battery life, Non removal battery, No SD card
Original Desire->SGS2->HOX, I too missed sense too much. I like the device especially the screen(finally I can read full webpages unzoomed!) but it's not as fast as I had hoped. I gave my gf the One S before buying the HOX for myself but the One S just appears to be much, much faster. Speedwise the HOX is about as fast as the SGS2
Came from Note....except battery life, everything is awesome
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Came from desire HD and lo e the HOX just hate the battery life in 1.29....7
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
If we are talking only android phones I started with an xperia x10i. Then moved on to HTC incredible S and now to my one x.
Those has been my daily use phones but as secondary phones I've also had HTC wildfire, HTC desire and LG optimus 2x.
Actually I like my hox the best even though I haven't even rooted it.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
From Samsung Galaxy S -> HOX. And I'm VERY happy! Kies was real pain in the ass!
I customized SGS after one day of use, now I don't even think about to put custom firmwares to One X.. No need to customize.
I come from a total HTC lineup...Desire,DesireHD,Sensation and now the One X.
I love the One X but i`m very sad at the way HTC have made it harder and harder for true enthusiasts to get total control..i.e. locked bootloaders,no S-off.Seems HTC want to forget their rooting community
Came from HTC Sensation and happy with the One X:
1: bigger and better screen
2: quad core CPU
3: internal storage
4: design is better
5: better camera
Not so happy about:
1: non removal battery
2: no SD card slot
Came from the dinosaur age, nokia e66
Htc one x as my first android phone
Happy with: Big screens+awesome display, quad core, awesome design
Unhappy with: S-on, built in battery
Desire -> Desire HD -> One X
Honestly couldn't be happier with my HOX! Coming from a DHD - and even then not using a spare battery - the battery in this is so much better, so I don't find it to be an issue. Also, no expandable memory isn't an issue for me as beforehand I only had an 8gb card, I know they fairly inexpensive to buy but having 32gb from the off is brilliant.
Other points I love are the camera, gaming and Sense 4.0 of course!
This is my first android device after being an Apple user for years. Couldn't be happier and will never go back
Came from Galaxy S and samsung sucks! HTC One X is best! I just need S-ON others are perfect!
Coming from the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10
Very happy in comparison, its very nice to be able to charge my phone via the USB cable!
When USB ports break, it makes you appreciate them a lot more!
I'm an old HTC addict, changing my cellphone every ~2 years
spv C500 >> HTC Tytn2 >> HTC Touch Pro 2 >> HOX
of course, HOX is a big improvement for me !
Used HTC Desire & then moved to Sony Xperia x10i(Indian launch was delayed & i somehow liked this device over Desire because of even battery life etc) & now the One X
I like One X for larger display, ICS, uni-body design, Quad Core & of course the Sense UI
Dislikes would mainly be battery life, non user accessible battery
I came from Original Desire and very happy with Hox
Better and bigger screen (Love It)
Bigger Internal storage (and this why I hated My Desire)
Beats audio
ICS+Sense 4.0 (F*** TW)
htc better than other Manufactures and faster in Updates ( Samsung the worst)
The best design ATM
Comming from the HTC Hero, first impression: The screen is huge! Like it a lot actually, finally I can read/write mails properly on this screen. Doesn't really fit in my pants just yet though, but then yet again when I got my Hero I first thought that bugger was quite large. Guess I have to get used to the feeling.
HTC Hero was also the first device which had HTC Sense, back then it was quite sluggish and I quickly embraced AOSP ROMs. But at the One X, I think they quite hit the nail. It is quite functional while the speed is just massive.
I came from iPhone 4s and iPhones for the past 4 years.
I just needed a change. I can get all the stuff I Jailbroke stock on the one x. I'm liking the change
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I come from a touch hd/DHD/ and now my one x. Can't comment properly as only had it a day. But so far I'm impressed. First thing I did when I got it was unlock and put ARHD on it best thing I did tbh. The stock was horrific... :-\
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I still have my Note, didnt get rid of it yet. Bought the One X for my sister, but it will be with me until her exams are over.
I got a defective piece to begin with, but HTC took it back and gave me brand new sealed pack piece (This time it was 24A and it is flawless).
Overall I am OK with the phone. No issues with interface, I quiet like the Sense 4.
MY problem is with the buttons. Volume and power buttons should have been better. (Operating them when laying on bed at night can be a problem due to lack of feedback and difficulty in finding power key )
And coming from Note, the battery life is little bit of downer. Also hate the battery stats issue where it does not show the real battery usage and indicator suddenly drops 5-10%.
Surprised by the screen quality. Good stuff from HTC in that department.
Not happy with 3 dot menu at all. Its stupid. Consolation is that we have fix and button remapping mod.
I have mixed feelings about this phone. I am also not wooed in by the polycarbonate build. Its amazingly light, but It feels odd in hands. Maybe its just matter of getting used to it. Also I dont have case for it yet. So once that comes, this should be non issue.
Great stuff from HTC in a while, but dont think its the best they could have done.

[Q] HOX or p880?!

hello all. im in a little bit of dilemma here.
im ex galaxy s2 owner, fell in water for 45mins (superb phone, RIP) and im about to sign my new contract.
price range is like this with me, its eighter HTC one X (int, quad) or LG p880 4x HD.
price difference is minimal for my contract. (htc slihgtly more expensive)
Now the thing is. i love more edgy phones (which LG is, reminds of my s2 <3) but since im not ultra rich i wld like my phone
to whitstand loads of monts of heavy use. and i know, HTC makes some really good finishes on their phones.
When u look at specs, basicly the same, 720p screen, similar shooters, same RAM, same tegra 3..
So, honestly, check the specs of LG and tell me, what would you choose if you were buying one of these 2 now?
and no, i dont want ANY OTHER phones. nor do i have the money, nor does my provider offer.
Anyways, thank you for any opinions.

One X. No question about that. You're on xda and this is all about development. 4X has nothing.

yep my sister has 4XHD but i didn't found something really for it...and the phones is still on 4.0.3 ....ok it has larger battery and my sister said she has good battery life but yea ok screen development etc is nothing compared to our hox
I own both as you can see from my signature and i can tell you ..
1. HOX has a little better screen-color, saturation but i do not like HOX screen because the glass is like mirror if you use phone outside and need really pop up your screen brightness -> battery drain as hell
2. Battery time differences when you actually use phone are almost the same, some times better with 4X some times better with HOX (i do not play games - only movies, web browsing, sms and calls, photos (HOX camera is battery drain in comparation with 4X)) - but standby time is better for HOX
3. HOX build quality is better, my LG 4X is 6 mounts younger than HOX but have cracking sound and looks like 6 mounts older than HOX actually , HOX is stable regarding screen replacement-my fault (i must say i do not use protection cases and screen protectors)
4. Must say that 4X with JB have done a good job with camera..better pics than HOX, especially closeup photos- Really without complaining!
5. Must also say that 4X JB update is first android and LG user interface that i do not wont to change, you really have much options for personalization and also much user intuitive than HOX
6. HTC push Flash player app on HTC even in JB for web browsing, 4X UI have landscape mode for home screen and app drawer without using a custom launcher!
7. For developers ..probably HOX is better..But 4X also have support, 4X JB source code is released from LG, CM nightly is here allreday, and actually flashing custom ROMs it is much simpler for LG 4X - just need actually rom manager from play store, and just put desired rom file to sd card, and much more simpler to go back to stock-just flash .kdz or .dz, and you can root 4X without unlocking bootloader and using custom recovery which you must do with HOX because of S-ON!
8. HOX after JB update support usb OTG natively - LG 4X as it seems have hardware limitation even if that function is enabled with some apps or hacks..
So i can not advise you what to buy because - your needs->your phone but i can say that after several months of usage i choose to use HOX for testing and developing and 4X for every day use, using 4X on daily base is for me much happier and easier experience!
Hmmm. So my thoughts exactly.. LG maybe better for daily use, but not a really awesome build quality..
donno. well, im goin to pick one of these up today. i quess ill just test them both there and see. will let you know what i chose
In my group of friends there are three 4X's and one, mine, One X, so I've done quite an extensive comparison over the time and I can tell you without being biased by my love for the HOX, the HOX is a better phone. You get a better designed/built phone with a better display. Photos are better on the 4X but the video shooting and camera options go for the One X. Sense is better than whatever the LG skin is named and we'll get Sense 5 in the future. Last but not least the One X has way more active development that is very important when choosing a phone for people like me, I don't know about you but it probably is important to you

im back from shop with HOX!
i compared them there, and what really made me decide for HOX is build quality. also, better viewing angles on display. benchmarks were basicly on par, even with full sense running. also, im a custom ROM lover, and i quess HOX is better in that also, its been out for a while.
HOX!
Optimus 4x is terrible for gaming. We got unlock and official cm10.1 now but theres no decent gaming kernel yet

[Q] One X vs One S in terms of development

Hi,
I ask here for your help because I am planning to buy a new phone in the near future, and I am currently deciding between the One S with Snapdragon S4 and the One X with Tegra 3.
I would be very, very grateful if someone could tell me which one is better from the perspective of custom ROM development. Which one has more stable and less buggy CyanogenMod or similar AOSP-based ROMs? I've been lurking here in the One S and One X sections for some time and I can see that neither of those two phones is bugless, but I don't know how severe these problems are, if it is a dealbreaker or you can live with it. Also I get the feeling that the Tegra 3 is lacking in terms of development support and Qualcomm devices are better suited for future development. Is that so or am I wrong?
Another thing which I consider is the display quality, although it is not the main one. I know that the One X has a denser screen with better color reproduction than the One S, due to being an LCD panel, but the blacks are not as deep as the AMOLED on the One S. Is there a big difference? Do the blacks shine too much at night? It would be very cool if someone could post a good photo of the One X displaying a black screen at night.
Just one more question, how does the picture quality from the Sense camera compare to picture quality from CyanogenMod? I know Sense takes better pictures because it is optimized for the hardware, but is it a big difference?
Thank you really much for your answers, I aprecciate your help.
PS.: I posted a similar question here in the One S forum, if you want to take a look.
This is what HTC says on Reddit (and that answers the part about Nvidia vs Qualcomm quite honestly):
To address an issue that’s top of mind for many folks here, we recently announced that we wouldn’t be updating the HTC One X and One X+ beyond Android 4.2. Without the support of our chip manufacturer Nvidia, it made a global update of One X and X+ devices impossible. However, in US the One X uses the Qualcomm chip and an upgrade would be possible, but we didn’t think it would be a good experience for our customer base to update the X, but not the X+. This update caused a huge stir amongst owners and we’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4.

So, Qualcomm FTW. But one thing I can't understand is how the Nexus 7 2012 got KitKat, when it's using the Tegra 3 too. It still feels like Nvidia abandoned it on 4.1, though.

The nexus 7 has the T30L while the OneX/X+ use AP33/37. Nvidia still provides support for T30L but not for AP3x.
