Exactly as the title suggests.. they had worked fine for a long time, then all of a sudden one day they stopped. Now when I send an emoji to an iphone user whether form the apps themselves (with respective plugins installed) or from the "emoji keyboard" app, they receive them fine and I can see the emoji in my conversation, but when they send one back all i see is either boxes or diamonds with question marks in them. Also, when someone sends me something like (^-^) it just leaves a blank space in the text. I don't know what the issue is, it doesn't seem to be ROM related as it just happened one day and I've updated the ROM since then, but I could try another ROM just to make sure.
My question is, has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know how I might fix it?
I'm on the "Mother of all ROMs" with Ktoonsez kernel
Anybody? Self-bump... Still trying to fix this little issue
Hi,
Did you install any new updates or make any software changes, etc. before this happened? Because I know I have to fix my emojis everytime I flash a new 4.2.2 ROM. I sat here for 10 minutes trying to find the setting, but I can't remember it right now. The one I always have to mess with is not the enable emoji support one, but rather a setting SOMEWHERE on the phone that says "enable full unicode support" or something like that. I suggest you try to hunt it down since I can't find it myself :silly:
Also, this is my first post on xda. been lurking for a long time though
Listen up @Merckle @Amizzly @Branford
Uninstall Google Voice, go to google dot com voice, remove your sprint account. I believe you will find your emojis to be quite operational.
Additional steps if that doesn't work
Reboot to recovery, wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions. Reboot.

How do I get rid of that icon in my notification bar? Does anyone know which program causes it? I checked the settings for Handcent and ADW Launcher and I don't see anything about it there. Help please?
Running CM7.1.0_RC1 on HTC EVO 4G hardware version 002.
Getting Rid of the Phantom Voice Mail Icon (The one that shows up in the top left corner, NOT the text message issue.) Source
MAKE A NANDROID just in case, (though you may want to flash your preferred ROM from scratch)
Obtain/find/borrow/buy a second non-Android Sprint phone (old, new, ugly, doesn't matter but must have a clean ESN)
Take your EVO back to a stock rooted ROM such as RUU SuperSonic EvO 3.70.651.1 OTA - Stock - Sense or Version 4.12.651.1
Log on to mysprint.sprint.com (or call Sprint if you are more comfortable and have them do the following)
On the main page scroll down to your device
Select "Activate a new phone" from the "Manage my device" pulldown
Follow the instructions and activate the non-Android phone on your account (temporarily removing the EVO from your account)
Once the non-Android phone is activated, follow all the steps to activate your voice mail account.
Call your phone from a land line and leave yourself a message
Open voice mail on your old phone and delete the new message and any others. Check it thoroughly to ensure no messages are saved in VM.
Log back on to mysprint.sprint.com (or call Sprint back) and reactivate your EVO following steps 5-6 above
Once your EVO is reactivated it should automatically re-provision your VM account.
Follow the instructions to get your VM account setup again. If you get a "Data Call Failure: Error Code 67" message when you reactivate your Evo, you need to update your Profile
Boot into recovery (this would be a great time to update the radios, PRI and PRL and make sure you update your profile (see link in Post #1))
Wipe everything using both recovery and a FORMAT_ALL type zip of your choice (links in Post #1)
Flash the ROM of your choice (you can try a nandroid, but it may or may not work cleanly, YMMV)
Make sure to keep an eye on your bill after you do this fix as some have reported billing errors. A call to Sprint should clear things up.
There IS an easier fix, I'm just trying to find it....
Thanks for the reply, but it's actually not a VM icon. My VVM is working just fine.. It's an SMS icon. It comes up every single time I get a text message (saying "from: [phone number of person that texted me]") so basically I get two SMS notifications.
Clearing the mail or sms messaging app's cache may help in this matter. Rebooting into recovery and wiping the cache and dalvlik can also do wonders.
Posting & replying from my EVO 4G
My bad, I misread. If you're using handcent, go to stock messaging app and turn off notifications.
@HipKat - I've used Handcent for a while, so I always know to turn off the notifications on the stock messaging app. So yeah. the stock messaging app notifications are off. I know what the icon for that notification looks like anyway. This is different. Some other program is causing this. Thanks for the suggestion though.
@dougjamal - I actually recently re-flash CM7.1.0_RC1 on this phone, so I went through the process of clearing all the caches in the recovery. Also as I said in my reply to HipKat, this doesn't seem like a notification from the stock SMS app or the Handcent app, it's some other app doing this. Also it kinda seems to me from reading your reply that maybe you think that the icon on my notification bar is like stuck there. It's not. I can clear it with no problems. It just keeps coming back every time I get a text message. It basically acts as a duplicate notification of any SMS that I get, sort of like having my notifications on the stock messaging app turned on in addition to the Handcent notifications. But that's not the case. Like I said, I know what the stock messaging notifications look like. This is something different. Again, thank you for the suggestion but that's not it.
Here's some more info to see if maybe it juggles someone's memory so they can help me: The last time this happened to me I went roaming the internet until I found this post on some other Android forum and it turns out what was causing a notification like this one wasn't even a messaging app. It was a launcher/home replacement app of some kind, IIRC. This is why I mentioned in my first post that I went through my ADW Launcher settings and had no luck.
Do you guys have any other ideas by any chance? Thanks in advance.
Anyone got a solution for this? Still having this issue. :-\
This is what I did on MIUI
If you didn't make a Nandroid of your phone, Stock/Rooted, find on on here and flash it, after you make a nandroid of your current setup.
Once you're in Stock/Rooted, open market and make sure VVM is updated. Then d/l Titanium Backup and make a backup of VVM.
Now, nandroid back to MIUI, and extract the app from the Titanium .apk backup.
The actual name is com.coremobility.app.vnotes-6334abeb61350a3ac2629cb6dc18c56e.apk.gz
Unzip that and extract com.coremobility.app.vnotes-6334abeb61350a3ac2629cb6dc18c56e.apk to your sd card. Using Root Explorer, or whatever you use, install the apk.
Open TB, and restore data.
Open VVM, compose a message to yourself.
Done
Funny...
So what happens when you press the icon?
Sent by Supersonic!
@HipKat Don't you remember you already replied to this thread with that same message? It's not a VVM icon, my VVM is working fine. It's a SMS icon.
@imheroldman It asks me what messaging app I want to use, Messaging or Handcent. Whichever one you click just opens up that app and shows me the text message I just received.
Maybe check your running apps next time it comes up

It was RedList. Thanks for the tip
Nice glad I could help!

Hi peoples,
I started off with a clean flash of cm10 preview and for some reason I am not receiving text message notifications consistently. I am using CM10's stock messaging app and occasionally it works, but most of the time it doesn't. If I check my messages I can see that there are several unread text messages, but I was never notified. GO SMS does work and is a temporary solution, but I was curious to see if anyone else has this issue and if anyone has found a fix for it. I read through every post in the dev thread for official CM10 and couldn't find anything. I tried doing a clean flash to cm10 0905 nightly (wiped data, wiped cache, wiped dalvik). I also formatted my SD card. None of this solved my issue. It might be a setting that I'm missing but I've checked the notification settings in the messaging app and they all seem to be set correctly. I also tried fixing permissions - not sure what that would do, but I was kind of desperate. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Sometimes lurking sucks :/ Still haven't hit the ten post requirement to post in the dev thread about this issue.
Thanks a ton in advance

We have noticed some oddness in the way notifications are being handled. However it is not specific to our device hopefully an Upstream fix will be made soon. No workarounds have been discovered as of yet unfortunately.
If you flashed your phone to boost, metro or other carriers you need to do. A couple extra steps to get your messaging messaging working.

I found this thread in a google search because I'm having the same problem. Push notifications mostly don't work for me after a clean install of CM10. Sometimes, the process crashes as soon as the phone starts up. If not, push notifications usually won't work unless I have the app open. For instance, I don't receive notifications of new texts unless I have Google Voice open. It's the same with other programs, although gmail notifications seem to be working fine.
Even though I'm on a clean install of CM10, I did do a full restore from Titanium Backup. I am going to do a full wipe and clean install of CM10 without restoring from Titanium and see if I have the same problem. I will get back to this thread to post updates.
I apologize if this is mentioned somewhere else, but I've been searching for this everywhere and can't find anything that discusses it.
With Jellytime, ever since I started using it back in the alphas, up to R26 (with some wipes in between, of course), I've never seen Google Now working. I'm not referring to cards as a response to voice searches that many people seem to think of as Google Now, but instead to Now cards that appear automatically in response to data. Furthermore, I've found numerous screenshots on other devices of preferences that actually include the words "Google Now," whereas everything for mine seems to be for voice search. This doesn't appear to simply be a matter of waiting a few days for cards to appear.
I've always installed per the Jellytime instructions, installing the zip, the most recent google apps zip, and the inspiremod zip. I've never seemed to get actual Google Now installed rather than just Voice Search. There are zips to install Now on ICS roms, but everything that I've searched for insists that Now is builtin to JB.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to get Now cards working with Jellytime, or is this something particular to Jellytime? Do I need to install something else? Or am I completely confused in some way?
I have a bit of a silly question. Have you tried tapping Menu and making sure that your Google Now is set to "on" and not "off"? There might also be 3 dots in the lower right on some ROM settings, but it tends to get hidden under the keyboard. It should prompt you to decide whether you want to use Google Now the first time you use it, but I thought I should check.
That was what I seemed to read numerous places, but nothing about Google Now ever showed up anywhere (Menu, Settings, etc) for me. However, your asking made me think that it probably wasn't a problem with the ROM, so I went to what should have been immediately obvious to me: I have a Google Apps account.
Apparently there's an obscure setting in the domain management tools to turn Google Now on and off; this was apparently added some time ago, but after the last time I checked, and no notification was ever sent out. When off, any reference to Google Now on a phone synced to an Apps account simply disappears. Everything is now working perfectly, and I'm no longer mystified.
I suppose I should always check there first in the future, and always preface everything with a note that I'm using an Apps account... though I can't understand why Google's paying customers always seem to have the most annoying experiences with new features.
Context:
Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Stock ROM, Android 4.1.1.
When I check in Settings...Accounts...Google...
It shows a Sync Error for my account. At the bottom of the screen it says:
Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.
If I then click on my [email protected]
All of the entries are checked and properly synced, and up to date, except Contacts. It says 'Last Synced 4/20/2012..."
Despite this, Contact additions or edits that I make on my phone do in fact get synced to my other devices. And Contact additions or edits that I make elsewhere do get synced to my phone.
So, this appears to be a faulty error message. Since everything is working right, I'm reluctant to do anything major to try and clear the message, for fear of actually creating a functional problem. And yet, it bugs me that it's there.
One of the frequently suggested solutions is to go to Settings...Apps...Contacts Storage...
And once there, hit "Clear Data".
So my question is what exactly happens when "Clear Data" is hit? I want to eliminate the potential for inadvertently deleting my contacts overall, don't want to create new problems, etc., so would like a little more information about what this does or doesn't do.
And, if someone has any insight on another way to get rid of this message, that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!
Anybody have any information here??
Thanks.
Try this
Hi, i face the same problem. After few hrs search in Internet, I found a way to solve it, so far it works.
Go to Google Play and install this apps: Contacts Sync Fix
Run the apps
Go to setting, open Google account and try to sync again.
It should be OK then.
Hope it helps.

Very interesting! Looks like it just came out this month. This is an incredibly common problem, if you read Google's "support" forums, which I find hard to believe how this is such a core function of the whole Google enterprise.
I wonder what this App is doing behind the scenes, or actually how it does it. All of the reviews so far are very positive, although there are only 11 of them at this time. I'll probably monitor this for a bit, and then try it out.
Thanks!
I exchanged a quick email with the Author, and went ahead and installed and ran the Contacts Sync Fix App. It identified a single problem, fixed it, and my error message is now gone, and sync continues to work fine. I went ahead and bought the ad-free version for $.99 - I have no idea if a problem will recur in the future, but I'll now be able to fix it. And besides, he fixed something Google has been unable or unwilling to do!
This solved my same problem

I'd post this in a more relevant location, but y'know. Not allowed unless I spam the forum for post-count. Oh well.
First off, I'm using the latest nightly of this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050948
Despite the thread title, it's now running Android 4.3.1, CM10.2, PA 3.99-RC2, AOKP jb-mr2, if any of that is important.
Next thing to mention, I have no cell/data service of any kind. Everything is strictly wifi only. Using two google voice numbers setup on the built-in sip/internet calling.
So here we go. Wiped my phone completely, installed above rom, and latest gapps, as usual. Installed a few basics(Swiftkey, Titanium, Tasker) and the installed Google Voice. Opened Voice+, selected my account. The native messaging app will now happily send SMS using google voice. So will any 3rd-party sms app I've tried(Go SMS, Handcent, etc.) My problem is, I set Google Voice to receive messages via the native app. Send myself an sms from another number, I get nothing. Changed Google Voice settings back to receiving sms via itself(the google voice app). Again, send myself a text... nothing. Until I manually open the google voice app. Then it does it's little refresh business, and bam. Up pops my text messages(within that app only). I've checked everything. Any auto-sync setting and background data settings that I can find are turned on. Wifi connection is active and internet works.
I just can't figure this out. Ideally I would like to receive my messages via the native app or handcent, but at this point it would be nice if I could get them at all, without having to manually open the google voice app to see if any decide to pop up. Was also hoping to stick with this rom, as it's the only I see with those latest versions I mentioned above. Particularly I wanted to use Voice+ rather than the extremely buggy and overpriced apps for integrating google voice sms.
Anyone know what's going on here, or how to fix it? Not really sure what other info to include, so I'm sorry if I've missed something important.
P.S. If my grammar sucks or I seems to be typing up half a thought, it's because it's 5am and I have been at this for many hours now.

Do you have you're phones sync on...might make a difference...since you're using WiFi.
Besides that..I would wipe cache of the app..if still buggy..wipe data and cache of the app...and reboot recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache...you might even uninstall the app before the recovery wipes of cache and dalvik..then reinstall and set up...
Sorry I'm not more helpful..I don't use that set up...but I bet somebody with more experience will chime in here soon...

Yep, sync is turned on in every place I could find a setting for it. As for the other stuff, I've tried wiping cache and whatnot. I also wiped the entire phone several times and tried different roms. The one I mentioned above, the Dirty Unicorns rom, and now I'm on the official CM10.1.
*EDIT* Well this is embarrassing. And kind of confusing. Just for the sake of thoroughness, I went into my router's settings, and lessened the security to low, as well as turned on UPnP. Reset my phone's wifi, and now everything syncs instantly, including gvoice text messages. So now I have to wonder, what exactly was the problem. Is there a port that needs to be open on my router, does anyone know? Also, I'm wondering what that means when I want to use my phone in places with free wifi, like McDonald's or coffee shops. As I said, I'm strictly wifi here. Any input would be appreciated, but I guess my issue is semi-solved. Just wish I didn't have to lower my network security just to use my phone.
