Hey guys I've been on the lookout for a good not cluttered replacement app that has all the functions of the stock one and maybe more.
I tried
Chomp sms
Hand cent
Gosms
And a few more but they're all bloated with crap that I don't want. Any other sms apps you guys suggest?

Try Sliding Messaging. The app is customizable and extremely clean and sexy.

There is a dev thread in the Android section.

maybe grab the cm Mms.apk from nightlies...
I love Contacts+ for not only SMS but as my call log and dialer. The only downside is lack of MMS sending but that's an issue with Android itself and the developers are looking for alternatives and workarounds until Google can correct the issue for third party developers. The developers are really friendly and active here on XDA too.

That's so lame. Why would a developer do that just to make money? One way SMS? What a joke.
I do like Chomp but it tends to get laggy while checking new text coming in. Is there anything that just works smoothly?
I personally just use stock message app but I would recommend sliding messaging.

Like i said it gets many updates i give much credit to the developer and highly recomend .. I'd love to recommend Sliding SMS, too. In fact, I want to use it so badly but the inability to send MMS is pretty big for me. It also loads pretty slowly. Granted, I have a lot of saved texts but GoSMS has no problem loading them instantly so I unfortunately have to stick with them.

Hi all,
I'm looking for a dialer apo to replace the stock dialer, since the Samsung stock one doesn't even have a proper T9 dialing option.
I have tried ExDialer, and it's really good but it doesn't show Facebook profile pics in the dialer.
Does anyone know of any better dialer apps that are fast and functional?
Thanks.

- Dialer One
- RocketDial
- Go Contacts
- Touchpal Contacts

Dev Team
im currently using dev team stuff such as:
go sms
go contacts
go keyboard
go dialer
im pretty much using the same thing as you but if you install AOKP rom, it should fix your problem with the face book contacts thing as its part of the features for the rom

Thanks guys for the replies, but I tried each one of them and NONE can pull FB pics into the dialer!
They're there in the contacts and even in the stock dialer but they simply don't show up in any of these custom apps! Other pics like google pics etc show up though....
Does it work for you? Am I doing something wrong here?

Its just like another fb or whatsapp account. It also syncs high res images which is nice and in the options you can choose to have htc style notes on your google account contacts so that when you do a full wipe and re sync it remembers the linked contacts.

ex dialer
I have used almost all the available dialers and to date found the Ex dialer to be the most user friedly one with good themes as well. Its a matter of personal preference too. For someone like me the main thing is not to have to stretch my thumb to the top of the screen to press buttons specially in S3 which is bigger. All the relevent common buttons are in the lower field. Even the search button of the contacts in ex. Go dialer is also very good but for me cannot beat the Ex dialer.

Thanks for the explanation. Since it's a paid app, I just wanted to confirm.
So this app syncs phone numbers and other details too? After installing this can I completely disable the normal Facebook sync app?

I don't think it syncs contact numbers. Only pictures. For me, thats what was important as I have telephone numbers on my Google contact list for most of my fb contacts. And it syncs status updates as well. So if you click on a contacts update in hax sync it takes you directly to the contacts page on the facebook app in your phone. I have disabled contact sync on my fb phone app.

Hello,
I am wondering if someone with the skills to do do, could cook up a mod to include emoji/ emoticons into the messeges app? It's that one MIUI feature I've always missed. It's also really annoying when iPhone people send emojis and they turn out like this: ¤⊙℃.
If anything has any interest in seeing something like this worked on, like this post! Maybe someone will get inspired.

Textra is such a nice and lightweight app, with individual notification settings, emoji and reply from notification panel (it opens up a small popup rather than the whole app). It's running SMOOTH on my One.

Hello. I'm running stock android 4.3 on my Galaxy Nexus. I installed it trough my computer (not with Toolkit but in cmd). After installing it, I have some problems and I'm not sure if they're happening just to me or to everyone.
1. When I open Fliboard and see some articles, then when I close the app and go to the launcher, it seems to have closen and it restarts itself. I can only see the apps drawer icon and a second later I see all my apps and widgets on the homescreen. That happened another time I wasn't using Flipboard.
2. Sometimes when I pull down the notifications bar it seems a little bit laggy (only at the beginning). Before it reaches the middle of the screen it is smooth again.
I thought about doing a Factory Reset in Settings (remember I have everything Stock including recovery and kernel) but I don't know if I will lose my apps or just my data (accounts and stuff like that)
PS: I have an app installed called "LatteScreen" which is basically a lockscreen replacer. Just to let you you.
Firstly only a handful of apps are updated for 4.3, the rest have to make the change for it. You would need to be patient with the releases as the app is not optimized for 4.3. That includes flipboard, and the lockscreen app you use.

This reminds me of when widgetlocker was released back then for ICS and Gingerbread, it wasn't optimized for ICS and while people say the app worked flawlessly it was only because it ate most of the resources.

I experienced that slight stutter pulling the notification bar down and on other parts of the UI. It's flippin' Google's stock 4.3 kernel. It's not aggressive enough. I simply flashed Golden Kernel and have it running GoldenX governor with a better I/O scheduler. Part of the 'bug' problem solved.
I've seen some kernels. Which one do you recommend me to flash?
You think if I do a factory reset it will work better? (Will I lose my apps?)
Edit: this is not a problem of Flipboard because it happened to me using Tapatalk and Stock Browser.
Does it happen to you? It didn't even happen on my ZTE Skate!!
