I probably messed up my phone right when i flashed a radio.img
I honeslty didn't know what I was doing and need major help. I can place calls and calls will go through but i am not hearing anything through the speakers nor can they hear me.
I went back to the toolkit and just flashed everything back to stock but still has the same problems at the moment =(
need help please!
okay, after couple flashes... i can at least hear the others voice but my mic is not working at all. what can fix this issue?
What kind of radio did you flash? One that was for your device, i.e. a gsm radio on a gsm device, or a cdma radio on a verizon device? Maybe it's something simple like lint in the microphone hole. You phone's status connects to your mobile network? Try a recording program to see if its limited to the phone.apk, or if its all microphone input. If not, did you try wiping caches and even a factory reset? Maybe you'd need a reflash of the system.img, if you have not reset it since flashing an (assumed) incorrect radio.

I flashed the one specifically for my phone. The verizon Gnex and the radio was for the LTE. I took the radio.img from the verizon samsung galaxy nexus development section as well.
After that I booted it to recovery, did all the steps like wipe cache and dalvik and installed the custom rom, gapps, kernel, and then the radio.
Would that have triggered it?
Are both the custom ROM and radio 4.2.2and for Toro?
Did you clean flash the ROM?
Did you restore apps via titanium?
Does the error happen is you don't have any apps installed?

I am having intermittent issues where I can't hear anyone nor can I play back videos or music either. It sounds like our issues are similiar. I am on a VZW gnex and I went from stock, unrooted, locked, 4.1.1 to the OTA leaked 4.2.2 and my phone has been crazy ever since. My keyboard will go up and down and up and down randomly, my speakers won't work randomly, and my phone freezes up occasionally. Have you tried flashing the 4.1.1 radios back? So far I haven't went back to 4.1.1, because I don't want to wipe my phone.

The rom and radio was for the 4.2.2 and specifically for the Toro.
I did a clean flash, making sure everything was wiped and formatted before flashing any roms
I did not restore any apps via titanium as i just wanted to have a feel of the custom rom before adding any extra apps.
i believe it may just be the device's problem... i got a re-manufactured GNex from asurion since my original had a huge crack =(
Just to make sure if anything was wrong, i did a Nandroid back up from my original working gnex and transferred everything over to the new GNex asurion sent me. But nothing seemed to fix the problem

I unlocked and rooted my phone first thing I got it from Asurion. When i had received the GNex, it was on 4.1.1 and i was able to make calls and everything was fine until I tried to flash 4.2.2 . I reflashed it back to stock settings of 4.1.1 and that should have fixed and flashed the 4.1.1 radio back. I even went to the length of making a Nandroid back up from my original cracked GNex and flash it over to the new device and that sure did not help the problem as well.
All in all, I called Asurion that my microphone is broken and expected to receive another device by Tuesday. I even asked if they can send me a brand new one since the refurbished was not working as "new". Hopefully I get a brand new one.
Even though I will be getting a new one, i was wondering why or how this could have happened. Software related or was it just the phone itself that just crapped on me

@mrxtokki - Well, in your case it sounds like you are fortunate and have insurance so you're getting a new device, or at least a replacement. However, in case you were wondering, I think I may have found the solution. It appears as though your phone might have a faulty headset jack which causes the speaker and earpiece not to work. There is an app in the PlayStore called SoundAbout, that can disable wiredheadset detection and keeps the phone strictly on speaker and earpiece. This fixed my problem. Here is the thread that I found the solution from:

Just flashed to a new rom yesterday and now my phone is completely incapable of getting a signal.
I've flashed plenty of roms and they've all worked fine until flashing to a 21889 rom yesterday (firestormLeo v5.5). Not a single bar of service since. Text messages don't get received and no data either.
I reflashed, hard reset after the flash, updated the radio, flashed back to an older rom that worked, and hard reset again.
Nothing works! I now have a completely unusable phone (phone-wise). It completely works otherwise (music, sync to pc, wifi etc) although it does seem to get warmer than usual. I'm assuming that's because it's trying to grab a signal or something.
Anyone have any ideas on whats going on?
I would try flashing the original rom/radio that came with your device including removing the spl and seeing if that fixes it.
If that doesn't fix it, then you are all prepared for warranty service.
If it does fix it, then you can reflash your favourite rom and it should still work. But sometimes flashing an official rom can fix things. I know back with my Kaiser it was advised to always flash an official rom between switching from an unofficial to another unofficial.
thanks for the suggestion!
just did all that and now i'm on stock rom and removed spl but it still has zero signal/service.
i bought this tmo tp2 from craigslist so i'm not sure if i'm covered by warranty. where do i go to get this fixed? or am i screwed
anyone else have any idea whats going on?
I had a similar problem with you(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616426), and have been waiting for some reply since last night, though got none, but the problem disappeared on it's own.
I continuesly flashed and flashed official ROM's and Radio's, totally gave up at the end, charged the battery to 100%, removed battery and let it like that for 5 hours, did an hard reset, and well, working as well as new.
It's a T-Mobile version as well, though my problem was losing signal continuosly and asking for PIN again and again every 5-10 mins. HTC support offered me to use another SIM card today, since I asked what could I try last night, though I didn't have the need for it =)
A lot of roms do not come with a radio so you may have to get one and flash it. If you put stock rom back on make sure it has a radio as well. Make sure the radio matches the rom and the ril.dll is the right one.
I have not had the problem but have read about others flashing new roms and no signal only to find out they had to write a radio as well.
i'm certain i have the radio flashed on it and it isnt the problem.
just took the battery out and hoping it'll somehow fix itself in a few hours.
I would also recommend to flash the shipped stock rom. Go to htc's support/download page and download the rom they have for the t-mobile touch pro 2.
If that doesn't work, take it in for warranty with t-mobile. I purchased a used at&t tilt off craigslist and had an issue with it. Took it into at&t's device support center and they replaced it no questions asked.
After installing Radio 2.05.00.06.11 (dinc_ota.zip), my handset speaker audio disappears. Speakerphone and bluetooth work fine, but no luck with the internal speaker.
Heres the kicker:
Once I restore the 1.0 Radio, the internal speaker starts working again.
After lots of searching, this seems to be a very intermittent problem. I've only found two other people experiencing the same issue. Unfortunately I have not found a solution.
Does anybody have any idea as to what my next step should be to try and solve this?
Thanks!
I have the same problem...

Try downloading a fresh copy of the update and running it again?
It's working just fine for too many people for it to be a problem with the update itself.

not exactly. but, this radio isnt a image, its a patch. and a double patch is not the same thing... there is no error checking. dont do it!
I've tried re-installing the update 3 times from three sources. At first I thought it was the Froyo update so I went back to my nand backup and that didn't help, but once I downgraded the baseband it magically started working again.
So I tried it again. Re-downloading all the tools and packages. Only for it to happen again right after the Radio update. So I reverted back, cleared everything to factory, did a fresh install, then did the upgrade once more.... Still same problem.
Since it is such an intermittent issue, I'm thinking that maybe the hardware is to blame. The particular handset that I have is a warranty replacement from Verizon (blown speakers on first one). Maybe that has something to do with it.
Anyone have any other theories?
Thanks!
So I'm stumped. It's a pretty straightforward process, and I can't see where I'm going wrong.
Next Step: Warranty Replacement. We'll see if that helps. I'll be sure to record the serial number and other details of the phone before I send it back. Maybe we can find a pattern.
It will be a couple days before the new phone arrives. If you have something I can try, please suggest away!
Thanks!
I am having the exact same problem. I have tried both 2.x radios and both have the same effect. I want to use froyo but the only way to is to use speakerphone or a plugged in headset. I tried to take it in yesterday but the tech at verizonwireless told me to wait it out until 2.2 comes out to see if that fixes my problems. ( went in stock told them I was having the problem on stock radio) final problem being is when official does come out and it kills my headset speaker is it going to be too late to root my phone knowing the replacement I get will already be loaded with the new software.
Chicken and Egg
Unfortunately, unrEVOked has not developed a S-ON patch. This means that you will either have to take stock 2.2 which will be unrootable -or- you will patch forever, have S-OFF, get stock 2.2 and not be able to return the phone if the problem doesn't clear up.
Please keep that in mind when making your decision.
The replacement phone worked...
Not sure what the problem was, but it confirms my method for installing 2.2 wasn't flawed..
Thanks for all your help!

I am trying to get verizon to send me a new one. They are not being very helpful right now. They said the audio issue is a software issue that should be fixed with the new update but might send me a new phone due to number of dropped calls. I have to stop in store tomorrow
I was running latest paranoid android and I wiped cache/dalvic cache after flashing Cerberus in recovery and when the phone booted up it was asking me to Activate (sprint service) my phone. I've never seen this with flashing roms and was wondering if this is a known issue with flashing roms on the S3 or something that can randomly occur from time to time.
Anyone have experience with this before? I had been running Paranoid Android for less than 24 hours but initially didn't have any problems whatsoever.
Itll do that sometimes depending on the rom. Usually does it after a factory reset and installing a cm based rom. Its just asking you to add your google account... you should be fine

This didn't have anything to do with my Google account. I guess I should have been more specific, I mean that my phone is deactivated on Sprint's network as in I can't make phone calls and all the info is missing in about phone. Phone number, PRL and such. I am flashing back to stock right now and hope this fixes it. Will probably give paranoid another go but this doesn't sound like a common issue because I haven't been able to find anything by searching.
When you get back to stock it'll probably reactivate itself. If not (although you can do this regardless just in case), ##72786# in the dialer should set you straight. If I'm not mistaken the screen you're referring to should be gone when you boot stock regardless. Its a bug. Doesn't work for a sprint phone but still buried in the rom
Ahhh... could try manually flashing your modem after the install too

Soon as I flashed the stock rom it tried to activate and initially failed and prompted me to reboot. Second attempt it was successful and then I immediately flashed back to PA and it is working. Going to give it another shot and keep the stock rom on my sd card this time in case I get stuck in a pinch.
I jumped the gun, phone activated fine but signal drops in and out randomly and will not connect to 3g. Just reflashed to stock again and everything seemed fine but signal was still back in and out. Checked under status and PRL read "0" tried updating to no avail so did the dialer code and it did the activation and all is right in the world again, or at least for the moment.
Just trying to figure out why when I flash Paranoid all my settings just disappear
*edit*
Just flashed back to PA this third time after fully making sure that the phone was working and had 3G data and all was right with the world (my phone). Will update if it goes South again but as of right now the phone is behaving properly. Maybe it just wasn't working right the first time and I didn't notice since I was on wifi. Only thing that keeps me from thinking that is I didn't get the Activation message until 12 hours or so after I had flashed and had been using the phone. /shrug
I still think flashing a modem in recovery after installing PA would yield a poisitve result

how do you flash a modem? I am new to this and this is also a problem that I am having with the same rom. I tried searching for a fix and this is where i landed.

Hey everyone,
after trying to keep my root from the OTA I caused some problems and fubar'd my phone. so I did a full restore because i didn't even have a phone app anymore.
I re-installed all my apps and even got Nova Launcher back without root. but now whenever I make or recieve a call. I can't hear anything and the other person cannot hear me. (i found a similar issue on youtube with a Nexus 4 and he updated the baseband)
I think it may be a baseband issue like in that video above, BUT, I do not know what baseband I should have on my Gnex.
Any help?
thank you!
-EDIT- Booting into recovery and whiping Dalvik seems to have fixed the issue. I also let the phone flash the stock recovery (if that matters) but I don't think that has anything to do with my baseband -/EDIT-
still FUBAR

well, no I have sound when using speaker phone, BUT no sound in normal headset operation. HELP!!
sorry if this is abit long winded,
hey everyone, not sure whats going on here. this is the tmob variant but i had moved over to a gt-i9505 rom dandroids stock gpe 5.0 back almost a month ago, this was upgraded from jamals 4.4.4 gpe which was working great. i installed the googly 1.2.3d kernel and that was also working well. i noticed that i forgot to fully reset all my storage and noticed jamal brought out a 5.0 rom so i swaped to that and wiped everything about a week ago and at first didint notice any issues.
then i recived a call and answered it on the handset and for the first few mins it was working fine all of a sudden something glitched and i had no audio like the call droped i hung up called back no audio. reset the phone same thing. just a day before this happened i updated the kernel to 1.2.5 googly for gpe5, so i figure this is it so i reflash and reset storage and no change. oddly this entire time there have been no problems with calls when using my bluetooth headset.
long story short i have installed and wiped one about 3 different roms including the dandroid that was working ok. i am now all the way back to the 4.4.4 jamal rom that i was on before i started and the problem is persisting. when i call someone the other party hears a high pitch squealing sound but only via the handset the "ok google" is working fine. i have not restored the nandroid backup yet.
baseband is m919uvufnb4
i have the current version of the twrp as what i have been installing everything from.
happy to provide more info. i know im still on the pre knox bootloader
and when i get home im going to try my wife sim see if that changes anything.
Update
Wife's sim changed nothing
Also wanted to say that I also read about a apn reset trick that was supposed to help. I did fix it one time but it recurred again and and since stopped working
Having that same issue gpe 9505 5.0 no audio in calls unless I'm using Bluetooth no handset no speaker
You guys Ned to update your bootloader and everything will be fixed.
You can only get so far with ancient bootloaders before the wheels come off.
Pp.
How do you do that
You need to Odin the latest version NK2, you can find it in general section, ShinySide has a mega link to download firmware.
Follow instructions and you will have a S4 that works properly.
You can use chainfire's auto root in original development to root.
