[Q] URGENT: Cannot load recovery.img from fastboot - HTC One X

Hey guys,
I've been a member of xda developers for a while but this is the first time I've had to ask for help.
I have a rooted HTC One X on AT&T and was running CM 10 until this morning.
I tried to upgrade to CM 10.1 by updating but for some reason things didn't go my way.
After trying to fix the situation and failing miserably, I finally got my phone to boot into fastboot.
I can see the serial number and even reboot into bootloader, but i cannot flash a recovery to wipe the internal sd.
When I tried to transfer the new update to the phone after mounting it via USB, I cannot see the files in TWRP.
I am on OSX but I do have access to a PC if needed.
Sorry for the long convoluted description, but the more information the better right?
Please help!
Thanks in advance!

Bricked gnex and I'm well out of my depth. HELP PLEASE!

Hello,
I had a problem I posted about earlier and I had no replies, so I stupidly tried to fix it myself. Here's the original post
"I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'm running gummy 1.0, and I was just messing around with the lockscreens that are native on the rom, and I changed back to the stock ics one and now my phone won't unlock without rebooting. As soon as I Hello, touch the padlock it restarts.
This would be no more than a minor inconvenience if I hadn't recently had to wipe my SD card due to memory issues (and after forgetting to add any new backups and any rom zips). So I cannot reinstall a back up or reinstall the rom from recovery. I've tried putting a rom back onto the SD via usb but the phone connects as a media device and the computer won't sync. hmm"
I've just done the factory reset from adb and now the phone is stuck in a bootloop. When I start fastboot it says "downloading do not turn off target!!" What in God's name have I done?!
I know this is totally my fault for trying to fix something when I'm in well out of my depth, but I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks
James, the idiot
First thing I'd suggest is downloading the GNex toolkit located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
To re-flash CWM to be on the safe side, then use the adb push feature to push a rom .zip onto the phone. Then boot into CWM and re-flash it.
See if that works.

That sounds about right.
Boot to bootloader, flash CWM, boot to recovery, adb push a new ROM to /sdcard, flash ROM, profit.
Hello and thanks for your reply!
It was the Gnex toolkit that I was using, and without it I would be even more lost!
I'm not sure if you're some good omen or something but just as I read your reply, after leaving the phone in a bootloop for about 10 minutes, it just started up by itself!
Hopefully this is the end of my problems
Thanks again for your reply!

Stuck in a boot-loop

Hello everyone!
First of all, I would like to apologize, as these kind of issues have probably been talked about and solved a gazillion of times before, but the thing is, I'm having a hard time grasping the start and the end of this issue myself, as the phone that is stuck in a boot-loop isn't mine - it belongs to a friend of mine who somehow managed to get the whole thing bricked.
Anyhow, I'll start off with what I know;
His goal was to flash a new ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601543). He unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone using these instructions; http://onexroot.com/one-x-root/how-to-root-one-x/). He succeeded in doing so and decided to move onto flashing the rom.
But the problems started when he read that he's first supposed to flash "Android Fastboot kit 2.1" onto the device, prior to flashing the device. And so he did. Or well, tried - what he told me was that he booted the phone into fastboot mode, then ran the "Install Boot.img" bat file inside the Fastboot Kit folder he downloaded and after that, the phone got bricked.
Now, my knowledge in this area isn't too great either, but I've flashed a few ROMs in my life before, so, I decided I'd do my best to help. But I have no clue on what steps he should take from here on.
To my understanding, he was running the official 1.29 version and he is still able to access the boot-loader as well as Clockwork Recovery mod. To my understanding, he didn't create a back-up of his previously working ROM and the phone won't show up in Windows Explorer while connected via USB either.
To my limited understanding, I should now try and install the rom onto his phone and once done, the whole thing should work - the only problem with that is the fact I can't get the ROM zip onto the SD Card right now, as explorer won't recognize it. So far, I tried using ADB to push the ROM file onto the phone, but every time I use the command "adb shell mount /sdcard" I get a "Device not foound" error. So, I'm kinda stuck here right now. If this even is the right way to solve the issue, that is.
So, like I said, I'm having a hard time grasping the start and the end of this issue myself, and if there is any additional information needed, I'll do my best to find out more about it - I do have the phone in my possession at the moment as well.
Thanks a lot to anyone who'll offer any kind of help!

The latest Clockwork jobby will allow you to mount the sdcard as USB drive.
Other than that, you seem to be on the right track.
^ he's right
What you want to do is first download the 5.8.4.0 version of the endeavoru CWM recovery.
reboot to your bootloader, make sure you're in fastboot and flash the new recovery img.
After you have successfully flashed the new recovery, well... go to the recovery
On the recovery, tap mounts and storage, then tap Mount USB. VOILA!!!!!
Yeah, I forgot to mention that I've already tried mounting the SD Card via Clockwork Recovery - I get an error saying "Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory exists). So that doesn't seem to be an option either, unless you have an idea on how to counter this?
EDIT: Ah, I see - he's using an older version. I'll get the latest one on board and give it a go. Will have to wait a bit for the phone to charge up first it seems though. Not enough battery to do it right now .
Thanks!
And voila! The phone is operational.
Thanks a lot for the help and, I just hope I never manage to half-brick my own HOX .

[Q] stuck on HTC logo at boot HOX ATT

Hello everyone,
I know this is an user error logically, i was attempting to install CM10, my HOX is rooted and unlocked, i have access to fastboot, but what i did wrong is i forgot to put the rom in sdcard prior to flashing the boot.img, clearly i can see my mistake but i am not able to fix it. so right now my phoe will get to the HTC logo and reboot. I have read a few forums but was not able to come up with a solution to my problem
Any help will be greatly appreciated, or if there is a thread that covers this i will gladly read it.
Thank you.
EDIT: sorry i just realized that i put it in the wrong forum is supposed to be in the ATT One X forums, could a mod please move it. Thank you
Also i am using recovery TWRP 2.3.1.0
Just mount ur USB and copy the ROM into the sdcard and then go to bootloader flash boot.img and do the other jobs then it'll be good to go

Another boot loop problem!

Hi All,
I know this is my first post and its asking for help already but I can usually find the answer to anything I need by just searching.
But this time i'm really stumped
I can see that a lot of other people are having this problem and have tried all the solutions to no avail.
I was rooted before and had the notification that update was available.
I followed this guide How to get OTA Updates on a rooted HTC One M8 by sakitech on youtube as I have done before.
I flashed the stock recovery and rebooted fine.
then I applied the update from the notification you get and now I am stuck with this brick...
I can get into boot loader using a combination of up and down buttons with the power button.
I am S-on
OS4.16.401.13
Ive tried putting various 0P6BIMG.zip on the sd card and have had the following results
Device halted due to large image update fail
that's the best I have so far.
If anyone could help me get my phone back that would be great
if there is anything else I need to tell you let me know
Thanks Loads

On lollipop, OTA will fail when the stock ROM is rooted due changes in binary.
You need a pure non-rooted stock ROM. Re-unrooted a rooted stock ROM won't work either.
How to get OTA Updates on a rooted HTC One M8 is not applicable on lollipop
Install TWRP and restore non-rooted TWRP 4.16.401.10 backup and then install 4.16.401.10 stock recovery then redo the OTA.
You can restore only system if you want to keep your data or backup your data and restore later after the OTA successfully update your device.
Thanks for the reply
sorry I am in way too deep lol
would you be a super star and give me a little walk through of what to do as I have been trying for hours today already
Also if you could provide the links I need that would be most excellent
I need all the help I can get )
Read How-to and all the files needed are here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Thanks again
but the phone is not recognised with adb now?
was before but now I open it up type adb devices and it lists nothing?
Help me Jesus lol
I'm having the exact same issue as the OP. Took an OTA and got bootlooped. S-On, Bootloader Unlocked, Bootloader 3.19.0.000, CID CWS_001. I flashed a GPE custom rom in TWRP to have a working OS, but now I can't figure out how to return to stock. I tried relocking the bootloader and then using the ATT RUU on HTC's website, but it failed because the system version was wrong or something like that. I have a backup of my data, but I can't figure out how to get this OTA so I can go back to stock and restore my data and not take an OTA again. Radio is [email protected] if that helps.

Why adb ? adb works only while in recovery or running system.
And the tutorial that I linked to you has nothing about adb, only fastboot
So what are you trying to do with "adb" ?
HI again day 3
How do I install TWRP without adb?
I can get into fastboot menu and have the TWRP .img on my SD card
How do I install it?
PLease Thanks
Toefudge
You don't need adb commands but fastboot commands !
so would you help me?
how and where do I use fastboot commands please?
as you can tell I haven't got a clue lol
so I type the fastboot commands in the same place but it just says waiting for device?
In your post #1, you mentioned you flashed stock recovery, how did you do that ?
It's the same fastboot command
after put your device in bootloader/fastboot mode and connect to PC, run this command:
fastboot flash recovery NameOfRecovery.img
If you don't have fastboot/adb properly installed, try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Yes I flashed the stock recovery to start when it was working
Then tried to do the update then it went into boot loop
I tried every thing including a factory reset.
Would this turn off the USB debugging? Stopping me from seeing the phone with fast boot/adb?
Many thanks for all that have helped me so far
No.. usb debugging on is needed for adb
fastboot doesn't need usb debugging on
Try the fastboot/adb link that I posted.
Also fastboot work when you put your device on bootloader/fastboot mode, most likely won't work while bootlooping
Ok cool thanks loads
I will try again I'm a bit
Just making my 3 boys dinner and then I'm back on it
Then I'll be back asking for help probably lol
What can i say ..
Thankyou so much for your help and patience
its all sorted now followed your instructions on the link after i reinstalled the fast boot software
You guys .

On the road, upgraded firmware but phone won't boot, TWRP gone, HELP!

Hi guys,
I REALLY need some help on this one...! I majorly messed up.. I'm on the road at the moment, which makes this even more difficult.
So I was running CandyRom on the old L firmware. I was getting ready to upgrade to another M Rom (Skydragon).
So I read that, of course, I need to upgrade the firmware. So I stuck 6.12 (6.012? Whatever latest one is) official firmware.zip on the SD, changed its name to Oxxxxx.zip (I can't remember the exact name) and booted into bootloader to install.
Now my problem is that this has (seemingly) wiped TWRP from my phone.
So here are my tools:
Windows laptop.
USB Cable.
(Very slow) internet.
How do I get from my phone being stuck in this state, to installing TWRP again, and being able to flash a rom? I can't directly access the SD card, and I'm not even sure I can ADB into the phone from its current state...
Also, my bootloader says that my phone is 'relocked' if that makes any difference.
Been a while since I've tinkered with all of this... please be gentle. Would really appreciate any help!
Files downloaded so far: TWRP 3.0 .img for one M8...
edit: I've installed HTC USB drivers... trying to download ADB drivers so I can at least use fastboot to get into phone. Let's hope it works...
Meanwhile... please help T_T
