I'm 99% convinced it will not. The 7" GT has a resolution that could be displayed on a composite set (if with horrible resolution), but the 10.1's native resolution isn't even close to SD TV (which is all the Yellow cable can carry).

Check the video..I use the samsung dongle it works wirelessly and its great..

MHL cable for a normal tv (not a HD one)

I have a normal tv with video in/out ports. Is it possible to connect SGS2 to a normal tv (not a HD one) using the MHL cable? I have seen a video on YouTube where someone has connected the Galaxy S with a cable in 3.5 mm audio port of the mobile to a tv set for a video output. Will this be possible with SG2?

AS far as i know this is not Possibile in Galaxy S2.
U can connect ur HD TV with HDMI Cable, but not standard TV with 3.5mm Jack.
i Dont know why SAMSUNG hasnt given this feature on GS2, it would be great if that feature was there.
Thanks for your reply. Can I connect to a non HD tv (normal tv) using HDMI/MHL cable?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
i suppose yes.
U can connect to any TV that has a support for HDMI. {not sure though}
I don't think non HD tv's have support for HDMI. Only HD tv's have I suppose.

MHL outputs a digital signal.
Standard TVs that do not have HDMI, with RCA jacks, take in an analog signal.
Something needs to convert the signal, so you need a Digital to Analog Converter, or DAC.

Probably because it would take more hardware to do so. Which increases production costs, and would have made the phone larger. There is a ton of stuff crammed into the phone as it is. It is basically a pocket sized computer.
If you can afford this phone, how can you not afford a TV that has an HDMI input?
I connected the MHL cable to a VISIO 720p television and it didn't work, I suppose that MHL sends 1080i/p signals only and your television must, at least, be able to handle this resolution and rescale it.

Not true. Any tv with an HDMI input will work. Doesn't have to be 1080i/p. Did you plug in a power source?

Huh. That's very weird. There shouldn't be an issue with plugging it into a 720p. In fact, I don't think the video output will even be 720p, let alone 1080i/p, unless the output is a video that is that resolution.

I think either the GS2 or the MHL adapter will upscale the image to 1080 regardless the resolution supported by the TV. But it's in fact weird because HD ready should support at least 1080i.
I have seen mini-USB to composite output cable (audio -left and right seperated- and S-Video output cables) for SGS2 on a shopping site but couldn't remember which one now. So it must be possible.

That could be. I can't test, as it works on I everything own... I don't own a TV or monitor that is less than 1080p.

I have my doubts about this - at least, the part that it was for an SGS2. MHL is a digital signal. S-Video is analog. So either the cable was REALLY expensive, or maybe they were trying to pass off a micro-USB to S-Video cable that it (falsely) works for the SGS2? Or it was actually for an SGS1?
The green screen on MHL/HDMI output happens, because of non HDCP compliant TV. All content that we get out of the USB to HDMI adapter is copy protected (HDCP).
I noticed this while I wanted to connect it to as HDMI to SDI converter. Also no capture card will accept this signal. Only HDCP TV and monitor will work.
I'm trying to figure out now how I can get 1080p desktop and gallery output.
MHL on normal TV
I read HDMI on "normal" TV (not HD) works if you use VGA adaptator.
A person on the forum i saw, gives a links to buy one and it was 40$ (For MHL adaptator + VGA adaptor that you need to input in the MHL)

Link? (I'm just curious)
My point above, is that the standard MHL adapter is only like $15. So it would be an additional cost to get ANOTHER adapter to plug that into a TV without an HDMI input. So $40 for that whole get-up would be more expensive. Less expensive than I thought it would be, but still more.
And based on what erzyk says in post 17, there is no guarantee this would work due to standard TVs not being HDCP compliant. But I'm just speculating.
Someone could buy this $40 mystery cable and test it out, I guess. It's just not gonna be me.

Connecting to a projector

Is it possible to connect the S2 to a stanadrd VGA projector for doing presentations?
You can connect it via the MHL HDMI adapter. From that adapter you must then connect it to a VGA converter... that unfortunately will cost you a fortune ... Also you must bare in mind that you will loose some quality due to the multiple conversions

That's probably using the composite video output.
You can only use
MHL > HDMI
MHL > HDMI to DVI adaptor (Like this one)
MHL > HDMI to VGA converter box (Like this one)

The note 2 and the s3 have different hml adapters. You will also need a converter.
On the monoprice link you posted, youll notice ab asterisk next to the s3. Same applies to the note 2.

I just got a Samsung HDTV Adapter Tip (5 to 11 Pin) Model EPL-FU10BEBSTD, which has micro-USB female to male; it enabled my TMobile "HDMI connection kit" that had worked with Galaxy S2 Hercules to work now with my Galaxy Note II. The connection kit was expensive, but has a 10' cable from the MHL adapter body to the male micro-usb plug, as well as a 5' cable to the TV HDMI, and a wall charger to power the adapter body. So the arrangement is quite flexible once installed.
I was hoping someone could help me with this problem also. I have a hdmi capable monitor that I would like to hook my note2 up to but for whatever reason the monitor will not detect the signal. i have tried rebooting and connecting it various ways but no dice.
the only thing i can think of is that its the rom im using which is myrom's latest version
Do you have 5pin or 11pin mhl cable? Note2 requires 11pin one.

I was told you need an S3 cable. Here's the one I use.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/310491287097?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648
Yea you guys are right you need 11 pin for the note 2. the sgs2 used 5 pin so if you have one for your older phone you need a new one or I think they make a converter too. I would suggest getting right from samsung. it may cost more but you get what you pay for usually and samsung makes the best stuff when it comes to that. Also another thing to consider while you are on samsungs website they have a multimedia dock that is on backorder right now but for a 100 dollars it turns your note2 into a pc basically. It has 3 full size usb ports so you can hook up a mouse keyboard and external hard drive and it has the hdmi port and an auido port so you can hook it up to a hdmi tv/ monitor and multimedia speaker system. I was going to get a new computer but I found this thing. So basically I can have an android desktop. It dont get better than that. Now wit dropbox and mobile odin and this exynos exploit we really dont need to hook up to a pc to root so there is no real reason for it. Just something to think about.
This is really helpful. My question is will this charge your phone while you are connected to the tv? Also, I see some of the description on ebay says it might not work if you are rooted.

I am rooted; The MHL/HDMI system works well, if that is your concern. The charger that I use for the MHL adapter is much lower amperage than the one that came with the Galaxy Note 2, so I would guess that charging might be slow if you are watching a movie that way, or maybe not even keep up, but I don't have the patience to do the test (or watch movies that way).
Hmmmm!!!!
I just got the Samsung dock and can't connect with HDMI on rooted stock.
The phone detects the dock and charges up, but no signal to the screen. Also tried hooking it up with the TV and projector using two different custom rom and separate HDMI cables and no dice.
Guess the dock is defective.

I don't know about the S3, but I had a Vibrant back in the day, and I bought a cable from radio shack that is typically used to connect older camcorders to TV's, and it would mirror my screen to that input.
It's a 3.5mm jack on one end, to 3 red, white, and yellow RCA cables on the other end. Make sure the 3.5mm jack has 3 black bands on it. One for each audio channel and one for video. I don't know if the functionality is gone, but it was there in the vibrant.
Yes, it's possible.
What you need is a regular MHL adapter (with the 11-to-5 adapter for the S3) and an HDMI-to-SCART converter, such as this one.
Then just link them phone->MHL->converter->TV.

This is misinformed. The only signal that comes from the s3 is Hdmi. You have to buy either a MHL adapter or a smart dock and connect it to an hdmi to SCART adapter like the ones linked in this thread.

You can purchase a MHL to SCART adapter which will save on one product (the HDMI to scart).
Try: amazon-com/HDV-M62S-Micro-USB-Converter-Adapter-MHL-enabled/dp/B00EXMSG98 for an example

That was an example but a quick look on ebay-co-in shows that while the first two items mentioned above are readily available, the third item and the adapter I mentioned are not.
Another convuluted way would be to use MHL -> HDMI -> VGA -> AV -> SCART. HDMI to VGA adapters appear available and there are a few VGA to AV adapters like this one: ebay-in/itm/PC-Laptop-VGA-to-AV-VIDEO-S-VIDEO-TV-Converter-Box-/280546899386.
Unfortuately this may be too difficult or costly once you've got all the parts. Depending on what you want to achieve you could potentially use DLNA to stream the content to a media device connected to your TV with AV/scart inputs. The WDTV boxes appear available on ebay-in.

MicroUSB to HDMI
I have a Galaxy Tab S2 (SM-T815NZWENEE ) which I am trying to connect it to a TV with an HDMI cable.
I have the ET-H10FAUWESTA (original Samsung) MicroUSB - HDMI adapter and when I plug in a HDMI-VGA adapter, I can display screen through a projector.
As soon as I plug in a HDMI cable instead of the VGA adaptor and connected it to a TV there was no picture.
I looked at Chromecast or other wifi dependent methods is not an option
Any ideas?

I think the Tab S2 don't have the MHL connection as the Note 4 (look in the Specs at the Connectivity topic) .
My Note 4 works but my new TaB A 10.1 doesn't. With MHL feature you can connect your MicroUSB - HDMI adapter and plug in the TV. To connect the Tab S2 mostly use the Chromecast device or Ezcast device (Miracast).
WiFi Direct could work with some smart TVs.
Edit: Surprise me that http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_s2_9_7-7438.php shows : USB microUSB v2.0 (MHL TV-out)
But Samsung web site doesn't show MHL in specs like it shows for Note 4 smartphone.
