So I just got a Droid Incredible and I am trying to root and install the cyanogen mod on it. I tried rooting with unrevoked 3 but it said the firmwas too new. I looked at other ways to root with the newest build 6.08.605.19 710RD but there are none. There were some that talked about going from 2.3.4 to 2.2 and then rooting but that seems very involved and it doesn't work a lot. Is there anything else out there that I am missing? Could I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141642 in the way I want to?
Follow this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258
Thank you!

Ok guys here the situation. I have sucessfully rooted my htc evo to rooted 2.2. I used djR3Z's tutorial on thedroiddemos.com both video and written. Many thanks to djr3z on his video. So with that my recovery that i have running is Amon Ra. Now I want to install cyanogenmod 6 . I did the whole process but theres an error on installing it and it is aborted. Im pretty sure that the problem is when i did djr3z's guide on rooting phone is that i never nand-unlocked the phone. Everyone is telling me to use the toast method to nandunlock the phone. I see videos and written guides and is seems to me that the toast method roots the phone. I need to know if i can do the toast method on the newest rooted 2.2 rom im on from djr3z. If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it. Oh and by the way I am A NOOB to this. If anyone can give a me a specific guide to work toast I would appreciate it. Thank you
did you try to follow and execute toast part 2 already?
are you able to use adb?
why not just unrevoke forever?

no not yet i actually found a link to guys doing the whole toast method. Apparrently like you said before i start at part 2 since my phone is already rooted. Heres the link if anyone is interested. http://theunlockr.com/2010/07/20/how-to-unlock-nand-on-the-htc-evo-4g/
Just do unrevoked and unrevoked forever then flash amon over clockwork. I would suggest this anyway in order to get permenent s-off and it is true full root and nand. I had the same problem and this was the most simple fix I could come up with.
Hey guys had to take my phone into Sprint so I am Unrooted now but with the new update.. So if I want to root which method should I use? The Regaw or Unrevoked? I am fine with adb commands and all that good stuff I have rooted multiple times. I just wanted to know if there is a difference or if anyone knows if the Regaw method will work with the new update or not?
Thanks in Advance!
I rooted for the first time in my EVO career tonight. I used unrevok3d and it was soooo easy. I used the directions in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
Now I almost feel stupid for being nervous about doing it in the first place.
If you're new to rooting and such, use regaw's. You're gonna learn a lot more about what you're doing to your phone. If you've done this all before, just go with Unrevoked.

I am still on Toast 1/2...
Should I change from it to something newer? The latest OTA and radio/pri update works fine.
[A] Which Root Methood to use with NEW OTA?
I agree with dglowe343. Albeit, unRevoked 3.21 is the easier solution. Don't forget to then follow up with unRevoked Forever(gives you nand-unlock).
Piece of cake now that the unRevoked stuff is working. Just follow the steps...precisely
I currently have an N1 and will be activating the Evo this weekend.
With the N1, I was able to root without unlocking the bootloader. I still get OTA updates. I was able to update to 2.2.1 (FRG83). I lost root, but it was easy to re-root.
Question about the Evo--which method will allow me to root (don't want new ROM, the existing is fine) without giving up the ability to receive FUTURE OTA updates?
Thanks.
Hey anyone know how to unroot the latest software. I tried using the latest RUU but it didnt work, any suggestions. Thanks in advance
A simple search brings up this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141&highlight=unroot
I just did it, and it worked great. There are instructions there for both unrevoked and non-unrevoked root methods. It is quite simple.
Hey all,
Just want to know if someone can point me in the right direction.
I am following this guide guide but when it comes round to using the Visionary app it freezes and wont do anything.
I have tried temp rooting from boot and also with the phone fully running but still nothing.
I have not updated it, it is showing as ver. 2.2 despite the notice that the update is available to download.
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi
Have you downgraded the ROM? Visionary only works on build 1.32 Froyo. If you are already on 1.32 then a factory reset normally fixes most Visionary problems.
I take it you mean the ROM that comes with the phone? The android version I have showing is ver. 2.2.1.
If I need to downgrade to ver. 1.32 how would be the best way to go about it?
Sorry of these are noob questions, I have searched all over trying to get the right answer.
Thanks
Have a look here DownGrade and then here Rooting Etc
or
have a look at the Advanced Ace Hack Kit HERE
The advanced ace hack kit has been getting some good reviews in the forums.
Thanks both, I will have a go and see what happens.
I am tired of watching useless YouTube videos, reading useless comments, and doing it from November until today. My Desire HD is updated, as you all DHD users know, the latest update is the Sense 3.0 update, and now it's a 2.3.5 ver. Android on it. The question is? How can I root it?? I REALLY want to root this phone but I couldn't find a solution for 2.3.5 Desire HDs, just the Froyo ones. Help please! I tried GingerBreak, SuperOneClick. Nothing happens, they run forever and do nothing.
Hey dude.
Did your DHD come with Gingerbread or did you OTA update to it?
If your DHD came with Froyo and you updated to GB, you can factory reset your DHD to take it back to Froyo, then follow the instructions here to downgrade to 1.32 then you can root etc...
Regards.
Greg.
Thank, it came with Froyo as I've bought it when came out.
You can use AAHK (advanced ace hack kit). Search for it on the site. It is updated to root all versions of Android officially released for DHD. No need to this manually as the AAHK does it all on its own in mere minutes. Just make sure you really read what needs to be done before running it. It really is a very simple process. If you get stuck running it, AAHK has an irc support chan so you can ask there or in the thread directly.

Donno if I am missing something but i cant find this AAHK thing, and the factory reset does not downgrade my phone, just removed all my stuff, but still 2.3.5 and sense 3.0. Why is it so complicated...
Use search in xda. Aahk will find the thread.

I found Jkoljo's method easiest. One click root s/off Downgrade , then root. Easy as 1,2,3
Hey dude.
Here is the link to AAHK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
Hope that helps.

Hi there,
I'm in the same situation as the TS, also with the stock OTA Gingerbread update. So, I understand that a downgrade is unavoidable during the root process right? I understand that AAHK is the way to do it. My question is, will it OTA update back to my current version of GB 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0 after the root and downgrade? Or is OTA updating after this process dangerous or will it undo the root? I'm kinda guessing that flashing the stock 3.12.405.1 ROM manually will undo the root process?
I know there are probably many magnificent ROM's out there that I could flash. But I just don't have the time to identify the differences, try things out and maybe change to another ROM because of bugs. I did do that back in the old WinMo days. Then I would probably flash a new ROM weekly, because there was something faster or more bugfree. Because, even a ROM from the greatest chef has some bugs. I don't have time for that anymore unfortunately, so I'd like to stick with the stock ROM which is good enough for me.
In fact, the only thing I want is root, in order to control permissions from apps (Permissions Denied app) and make better (Titanium) backups. I want nothing more.
Please help me out!

You could OTA update back to 2.3.5, but you would lose root! ;-) Here is a pre rooted stock ROM you can use after rooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
Tool to root as mentioned before: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037315
