I figured since Cyanogenmod 10.1 wild for the night has less apps and is stock that it would have better battery life, but why does it have such bad battery life. By bad i mean why do i get more on Gingerbread than CM10.1 Wild for the night.
Is it because its running more updated software?

There's a WFTN Q&A thread. You might get a better response there, though I assume most of them will be folks telling you they get great battery life.
There are also threads that are dedicated to battery life. Perhaps you'll find some insight there.
You probably have an app that is keeping your phone awake. Most of us use Better Battery Stats from the play store to track those down.
You could also try carat, http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/14/carat-battery/ but it needs a week or so to collect data before it starts giving useful results.
Location service, the LED, facebook are known battery killers.

So I rooted my phone and flashed the Blazer ROM. Everything flashed well and I am loving the look of this ROM. My only issue is that now my battery is draining very fast. It seems to be going down faster than before the flash. I tried calibrating the battery with one of the marketplace apps, but it hasn't done much. One of the main reasons for flashing was to improve the battery life. I am looking for any suggestions on what I can do? Is there any point in trying to re-flash the rom? Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
Give it a few charging cycles for everything to settle in....also download better battery stats and check for possible wakelocks

I had the same problem with this version of Blazer Rom. After my 4th charging cycle I had to get off it. I couldn't get a whole day use. For some reason battery drained hella fast. I'm back on stock rooted now. No rom has given me better battery life than when I'm on the stock one so far. I usually give the rom about 4/5 days to see any improvements. If too many bugs or battery drain I'll get off it sooner than that.
OK thanks! I guess I will try and give it another couple of days and see if it improves. If not I'll consider switching ROMs. Sorry but what is a wakelock? I'm still pretty new with all of this.
had same issue i just flashed rom three times and since then ive been getting a good 16 to 20 hours on one charge.
had the same issue, i was at work and charged my phone, one our latter my battery was down 20 percent went back to stock root.
Im also curious, what's wakelock?

wakelock is a term meaning an app I going rogue keeping your kernel awake. if you use bettery battery stats and cpu spy you can see what keeps waking your phone up when its supposed to be in a deep sleep. btw when charging it doesn't go into deep sleep. so it may give you a weird result if you check after a charge. also do not spend any money on battery calibration apps. every app I have come across tries to calibrate by deleting battery stats. which has been proven to do nothing. just a heads up dude.

A kernel mechanism for Android power management. When a thread holds a wakelock, the kernel will refrain from entering a low-power state.
Basically, an app or process is not letting your phone sleep. Free app betterbatterystats can help you identify any rogue apps

Thanks for that suggestion! I shall install betterbatterystats and cpu spy and see what happens to my phone as i let it set over night. I've seen it drop by almost 20% in battery life overnight for some reason (~8hours)...which I find to be unacceptable.
Hi guys,
I recently switched to CM 10 (Android 4.1.2) and the battery life is significantly lower than what I had on the stock ROM and the new Sense UI... I guess.
My phone won't run longer than 10-15 hours a day with normal usage, which means Wi-fi and 3G always on, screen on automatic brightness being used for about 1 hour in total (for one charge). However Android OS, Cell Standby and Phone Idle still account for the most battery usage, which I find weird. I have no wakelocks and my device goes to deep sleep when not used.
Is this normal behavior with the new Cyanogenmod and Jellybean or are my expectations too high? I already read most threads concerning battery life, but most of them discuss problems such as wakelocks or similar issues. My question relates to the normal behavior of CM 10.
I am grateful for all replies on the matter or personal experiences.
It's known that CM10 battery life is worse than stock JB. You can try different kernels and different governors, but it's a trade-off between life and performance.

I don't understand, I thought that CM is stripped out of unnecessary background processes and apps. As long as I'm not using any CPU or GPU intensive apps like games it should consume less battery than the stock ROM. Is there something I'm missing?
Maybe the updated kernel and drivers give better power effeciency. When the JB kernel source is released, hopefully CM10 and other AOSP ROMs will also improve.
You were saying about on screen time?

CM 10 really uses a lot of battery but of you could switch off wifi and 3g when not using, and clearing all the apps frequently in the recent menu may help... My battery then lasts from about the start of the day till night though the batterys now quite old.

i got a weird battery life yesterday, i was walking from work to home, i started watching videos on youtube, looked at the battery, 31%, after few videos looked again, still 31%, i walked 41 mins with a total of 9% of battery drain, i also played a game for about 25 mins, it was a really battery life.

That's pretty much my battery life as well. Regarding age, I'm really concerned, as I'm not able to open the phone and just replace it. But I guess that much better smartphones will come along before I consider getting a new battery and it won't be worth it any more.

I get that sometimes as well. I pick up the phone a couple of times and the battery is always at, say, 50%. Then, a couple of hours later I read a message and it suddenly jumps to 41 or lower. But from what I've read that's normal and no cause of concern.

I heard what causes the CM10 to have such an awful battery life is something that was supposed to save power when you lock your phone [Which is normally quiet often] and actually causes it to depelt, so it obvoiusly doesn't affect screen time
CM10 is a horrible ROM, get something else... I used LiquidSmooth for a while, it's a great ROM
Now running ParanoidAndroid 2.53
Btw, Stock ROM had a wonderful battery life, I only realize that now ... lots of ROMs can't reach that much

That's exactly what I did, flashed the old RUU and installed all updates. I don't know how the guys from HTC managed to do it, but the battery life on Android 4.1.1 and Sense 4+ is AMAZING. I easily get 24 hours with normal usage, over 2 days if I'm really careful.
This is what I got during a night sleep with cm 10.
I installed it yesterday so its kinda new tot me. What causes this?

Probably some nasty wakelocks. Install with wipe/factory reset if you didn't so already. Then try betterbatterystats (search xda) to find out what is causing wakelocks.
Can anyone comment on battery life for the new release of jelly bam? I have been getting 50+ hours and over 7 hrs of screen on out of my gorilla gadgets extended battery and I don't want to lose that performance. I would post this in the jellybam thread in the dev section, but I have fewer than ten posts and I can't. Thanks for your input.

Usually, battery life only gets better. Also, not many people have your extended battery so it's gonna be very hard to compare.
I'm currently using 4.0 with stock kernel and i'm getting good battery, life the same as before.
I guess I should have asked how is the battery life as compared to the previous version(s) of the rom.

I've actually found the battery to be a lot worse for me for the time being. I was getting killer battery life but now it's beyond awful. I don't necessarily think it's 4.0's fault, but i have something definitely going rogue and draining and can't seem to pin it on anything in particular. My two biggest drainers according to GSAM are "Android System" and "Kernel (Android OS)", so that's why I don't think it's a particular app or anything. This is since updating to 4.0.

Hi, I'm currently running PA ROM on my GS3. For those of you who don't know, it's pretty much a CM10 ROM with Hybrid/Tablet Mode. I get around 12 hours out of a battery on a school day w/full brightness on. I'd say that's only about average battery life. I have multiple batteries so this doesn't worry me much. But I still want to get the most I can out of my battery. Any kernel or ROM suggestions to maximize battery performance?
(I prefer Stock UI and don't play many games at all. I pretty much have Temple Run 2 and COD Black Ops and I play COD maybe once a month)

What ROM has the best performance and greatest battery life depends on its user. You will probably not get the answer you are looking for by asking this question here. To find the ROM that will best suit your needs, you will need to go around looking at ROMs and flashing them. Make sure not to just determine a ROM's battery life by running it for a couple hours. It is a good idea to run a ROM for a couple days before you judge its performance. Most ROMs claim to have the best battery life, and they all do have the best battery life, it just depends on your usage! Good luck!

I had this old Hero about 3-4 years ago. That thing was a DOG. It ate through a fully charged battery. Even though i had as much bloat removed as possible. To make matters worse i was constantly going in and out of service with my job as i was constantly driving.
For the origional hero i had so many freaking Roms to try out it was crazy.....
To find the best way to test battery life. what i did was i spent a day, and i downloaded my top 3 roms, and turned my screen on. I timed it at 100% battery life and left my screen at 100%.
I then did the same test, but i ran a stress test on each rom.
And finally i ran each rom, and i kept a phone call connected to my work phone. (free nights and weekends)
Turned out on all three tests the same rom had the longest battery life.
Thats how i tested my old hero. If you are dedicated enough you could try the same.
OP, it's hard to say due to everyone using phone differently, do a search and you'll see many of these threads that are gone and buried because there is no definate answer. YMMV on any rom. So try a few see what works for you.. There's FAQ thread in my sig check it out.
Rule 1 states to search before posting. It will reveal a long list of closed threads and the reason in every one. They are all the best.
Hello,
I have had Cyanogenmod 10.1.2 for awhile now and i have only had one issue. My battery life has gone down dramatically compared to the stock touchwiz rom. I usually take my phone to school on standby and airplane mode and i loose about 20% in 3 hours. If I use the stock rom I loose about 4-7% in 3 hours. I looked in the battery settings and it said Screen, Google Play Services, and Cell standby took up the most. I'm thinking it's the kernel but I do not want to take the chance of flashing a new one. If there is any other solution please let me know.

you might need to re calibrate your battery.
also, check if you have any wake locks using better battery stats.
Here's a recent thread where they are working on similar issues. Won't be exact to your situation but may help you to track it down on your own.

Also, in the stickies, I suggest you read Woody's battery thread for a better understanding of some common issues and power saving tricks.

If you are putting the phone in Airplane mode, make sure the Location Services are off.
using themes and live wallpaper also is bad for battery. really bad!
i installed CM10.2 on my old Samsung Captivate and gave to my mom to use. Turned everything off and I'm getting excellent battery life. She gets 4-5 hours of talk time and still has 70+% at the end of the day.
