Af far as i remember it this warning msg always been there. But if you have some mode/framwork/recovery installed and that may have option to reboot to download with power menu/toggle etc and using that short cut to reboot device to download mode will cut off warning screen, otherwise when you use three button combo to reboot to download mode, you will find warning screen always there.
Yes you can odin to update firmware, You can use mobile odin too to keep root intact, but again this won't update bootloader.

Dr.Ketan.........
Thanks for the awesome reply it... So can u give me the best choice, flashing with odin or with mobile odin to update firmware?
Because i really got crazy with the firmware LL7,....really make my battery drain faster. So i want flashing with new stok rom.

My prefered method of update is
-Backup data with titanium
-Flash latest ROM with Odin
-Wipe cache and data
-Reroot
-Use triangle away to reset counter
-Use titanium scenario 'Restore Missing application with data'

Thanks mate axelman...
Dr.Ketan......once again, thanks so much for the great methode, and i will follow it, and update it. :good:
One question again Dr.Ketan.....when i check in download mode ;
- binary counter : ( 1 )
- current binary : custom
- system status : custom
And b4 i already use TA to reset binary counter, but now i check it, still not gone,.
What must i do it? I going to flashing the last stok ROM with Odin . And if i flash the new ROM, its mean my binary counter become ( 2 ).

You need not to do anything right now
Flashing stock ROM won't raise count, but when you root it, it will raise
Just to keep in mind if you use custom recovery/kernel your counter will remain 1 even after using TA
if you root with Cf auto root, you can reset it to 0
After reseting counter, once boot device normally before checking counter.

I will do with what u say Dr.Ketan....thanks a lot for guide it.
Yeah, i never use other custom/kernel from other developers, i'm only use stock/kernel from samsung.
Before i root my phone with advance CMW, and i read all ur saying in forum if use advance CMW, cant reset to ( 0 ) even using by TA, its right Dr.Ketan?
If i factory reset my phone, and then flashing to the last stock ROM, can be back normally my status ? Sorry for noob question
What is the best stock ROM Dr.Ketan for can solve the battery issue ?

Yes if you have custom stuff your counter can't be reset.
Flashing stock rom or wiping won't reset counter, but you have to reuse triangle away to reset it.
You can have any latest stock tom
-flash stock rom
Wipe cache and data
Reroot
Use triangle away

[Q] Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available

Rooted my new Note 2 using the great toolkit simply to run Titanium backup as moving from an old phone.
Now when i go to the software updates i get the 'Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available' message.
I did have the insecure bootloader but have since flashed on the secure bootloader.
Looking around, i know i can triangle away and odin a stock rom but then i obviously lose all my apps and data again.
Does anybody know a way to keep my root and apps but still be able to do ota updates ?
1) Using Triangle Away and/or flashing ROM via PC Odin doesn't clear your apps and their settings, so if you will use same ROM as you have rooted now, all your apps should work
2) Dont panic and wait to update with something usefull for you, before reflash.
Does anybody know a way to keep my root and apps but still be able to do ota updates ?

I have the same problem, but I only need to know If there's some way to re-activate OTA having the Note II rooted.
Thanks!

I have the same problem, But I never rooted my phone ever!
Have you actually tried triangle away? I use it but even then my device state still displays modified
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Yes. Me too.I use triangle away and install stock rom and wipe data and factory reset but system status in bootlader(Vol down + Home + power) still custom(counter 0,current binary samsung official) and menu setting -- About device -- status -- device status Modified.
I search triangle away (xda-developers).they answer
1.- On my SGS3/Note2/etc, Download Mode says my System is modified, and Triangle Away does not reset it
Triangle Away attempt to reset this status and block it from coming back, but it depends on the firmware. It works on the ALE8 firmware, try flashing that if you absolutely must reset this value.
Where is ALE8 Firmware (Full stock rom) for Note2 ? I can't find it?:crying:
2.- On the SGS3/Note2/etc, System->Settings->About device->Status still shows "Modified"
This is outside the scope of Triangle Away. The "system" status is not even always resettable in the bootloader. If you are going for warrenty, you need to also reflash a full stock firmware and wipe your device. If they boot up your device and find root apps, you're not going to get any warranty anyway. If you do such a full stock reflash and wipe, the "Modified" value will go away.
I try reflash Full stock firmware by download from sammobile.com and wipe but Modified still shows.:crying:
hi there...
1) make a titanium backup of user apps.
2)locate the backup files storage from a file explorer.
3) transfer it to a computer.
4)flash the latest firnaware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915386
5)install titanium backup
6)restore apps
I have root as well, only root, via CF-auto-root. I have no triangle, but in device status it does say modified. I tried checking for OTA, but it gives the same message.
Guess with every update I'll flash a new stock rom, kinda sad though.
That's the price for rooting the device.
As usual you go for custom rom thereafter,
Otherwise u unroot device.
I get the same message, HOWEVER, I haven't applied root out anything.
All I have done is applied 2 OTA updated in a row that required a reboot each time.
After the second one, I pressed "Check for updates" and I get this message.
What gives?

:highfive: Thanks! I was about to flip a table over here. It works. I wonder what the issue is.
Fixed it
I fixed in the end by:
1) Made a backup with titanium of my apps and data
2) Rebooted using triangle away to reset counter
3) Used mobile odin to take a stock rom and root on the fly whilst also wiping data and cache (awesome)
4) Restored my apps and data again
no more message and still rooted

[Q] Remove Root - Reset Counter - Device Status - Please help

Hey guys, I was just wondering, I am trying to reset my flash counter back to 0 so that you cannot tell that modified anything on the phone.
I am stock rom right now, the only thing that I have done is rooted the phone, but I want to UNROOT and RESET THE COUNTER
Please advise how to do so because I have tried using the UnRoot function in SuperSU but looks like that was no luck for some reason and I also tried Triangle Away and it went through the entire thing, restarted, i pressed volume up, and it did what it needed to do but I was still "Modified" under Device Status.
Please help
after using triangle away you need to go to settings and than restore the phone to factory and it will be fixed
do you happen to know how to go about resetting to complete stock as if i just took it out of the box? I want to erase everything completely and start fresh from scratch. Please let me know because i have tried doing the reset through setting, i have tried doing factory reset through (vol + home + power) but when it comes back to the homescreen after all the prompts, i still have an app installed that i set as a system app rather than user app, but i have not corected that, but also it feels like its still rooted and still have supersu installed as well....any ideas?
oh yeah any changes you made when you were rooted they stay, you have to use odin to flash the stock samsung rom back in the phone
do you happen to have instructions and where to get the stock samsung image?

I havent figured it out yet, but I will try tonight

I've unrooted - but I still show as modified?

Trying to update my Note 2 as I'm apparently vulnerable to the SDS bug. I've heard 4.1.2 removes this possibility.
I had rooted with the Exynos Abuse app, which worked exactly as I hoped. It turned my device to "modified" but I'm still 0 on the flash counter. I just used it to unroot so I can do a software update, but it tells me I'm still modified. I've rebooted several times, and in fact just re-rooted so I could unroot again and give it another chance at clearing up.
Is there anything I need to uninstall? Would having titanium backup be a problem, for example?

It would be better for you if you try to do this:
Search and download Triangle Away, it should be around here
Root your phone again and run Triangle away, reset the flash counter and after the phone restarts inmediately put your phone in download mode.
Flash a stock ROM and wipe.
The phone status should stay as Normal and you will not have root.

Thanks but I really don't want to mess with triangle away or start flashing things and moving the counter... looks like I'll stick with 4.1.1. I guess if I get SDS they wont' see modified anyway. Maybe someone else can shed some insight?

Using Triangle Away will keep the counter at 0, also, flashing an official ROM will not move the flash counter up.

It's totally illogical
One person don't have raised counter why you need to use triangle away?
@op
-first of all update to latest version as soon as possible to be safe from sds
-you can wipe cache and data, to make status modified, if still you don't get ota, flashing stock rom with Odin will surely make it official.
-if you don't want to wipe try this
Setting - application manager - all - sysscope - clear data
Do same with enterprise syssscope if exist
Reboot device normally , play with device few minutes then check status.

As easy as pie. Flash cf–autoroot using odin. Run triangle away and then factory reset the phone. Now you'll have a zero flash counter, system status official, and root access.
If you want to ensure it stays 0/official then install xposed framework and sysscope blaster and do not install any custom kernel or recovery.

[Guide]How to Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Why Unroot your device?
There are many reasons to unroot device 1 common reason is to claim warranty, or selling your device or may be bunch more reasons which we cannot specify but these are 2 common reasons, Let’s start the tutorial on how to do this.
Requirements: Obviously Rooted Samsung Galaxy note 2 N7100 (Not tested on other versions as I only have N7100 but it’s pretty much same apart from the Firmware)
Mobile Odin
Triangle Away
Pre Rooted Samsung Firmware (recommended):good: or Stock Firmware (Lengthy Process)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just for the experiment purpose I have done this if any steps are wrong please do mention in comments below and let me know so I can correct it.
Firstly I have a Custom Rom monxDified and Custom Kernel RedPill as shown in the screen shot.

Now I have download Mobile Odin Lite free or Mobile Odin Pro Paid by Chainfire installed and after installation completes it may ask you to download the data please download it via Wifi or Mobile Data.
Now I have downloaded Pre Rooted Stock Firmware or Stock Firmware which can be downloaded from Sammobile or from Dr.Ketans Thread Pre rooted Firmware (Saves lot of time)
Note: Suggest to download the Pre rooted firmware so it will be easy to install Triangle away and reset the binary count if not you will have to root it again and install triangle away to reset the counter.
Now place the Pre rooted Stock Firmware in SD Card or Phone memory, I have placed it on SD I recommended to place it on SD CARD just to be on safer side,
Now launch the Mobile Odin (How to Flash Firmware using Mobile Odin) and click on Browse and locate the Stock firmware from SD Card or Phone memory and click on Flash Firmware now this will let you ,
Once Mobile Odin completes the installation now device will reboot and your device will have Stock Kernel, Stock Rom and Stock Recovery and after that you will have Boot Loop now you need to go to Recovery Press Volume Up + Menu+Power button let go these buttons as soon as you see the Samsung N7100 scren and do a Factory reset (will Erase Data from the phone Memory) and device will now reboot now it should boot up to android Setup.
Now i have all Stock but Rooted with counter raised .
Now I have downloaded Triangle away by Chainfire installed and after installation completes it may ask you to download the data please download it via Wifi or Mobile Data.
And Reset counter now by launching the triangleaway and navigating or clicking on Reset Counter and it will now boot to Recovery and follow screen instructions by pressing the volume button. Once this is complete resetting the counter now uninstall the Triangle away from app drawer.
Before Triangle Away & After Triangle Away
Open Super Su and select Full unroot once successfully completed it will reboot your device automatically.
Unroot Process completed :good:
Note: Just to be on safer side to claim warranty you should always do a factory reset on your device and format your SD optional and then take to service Center so there will be no signs of root on your device.

Hi,
Just letting you know and don't mean to be rude.
Unfortuantely, this method won't work. Once after pressing full unroot and after the Note 2 is rebooted the Status is download mode will go to Custom and the status in Settings will go to modified.
The reason i know this, i have tried this method. So, Samsung can still find out whether you've been experimenting with your phone.
I did a long research and combined different ideas to finally make it work. What I did is:
1) installed pre-rooted firmware
2) Use TA 2.37 to reset counter Mod Edit: Removed TriangleAway.apk (Credits: tot31) (This is because the latest version creating issues while unrooting and make the status go Custom again in Download mode)
3) Use titanium backup to wipe data from Enterprise Sysscope and Sysscope ( Sysscope may be frozen so, de-frost it and then wipe data).
4) Format the Ext SD card as it may contain some backups which might trigger the modified status
5) Use Root explorer to delete busybox from system/xbin/busybox (Credits: dr.ketan) (Since full Unroot will not delete busybox, the Sysscope will scan the phone for this after boot and change the Status to modified)
6) Full unroot using Super user
7) Reboot and enjoy
My device status still shows modified instead of normal after following all the steps..I am currently on stock rom kernel recovery..pls help me

Still No go?
The reason for resetting the phone memory and formatting external SD card is CWM makes some backups which the Sysscope detects while scanning and make the status to modified.
Then the other way follow the same process again fro first and instead of formatting the Ext Sd card, remove and boot. After booting , play with you phone for 5-20 mins and then insert the SD card without powering off the phone.
Note: you've do this every time you reboot or your status will change to modified again.
If u need complete unroot need to follow these steps religiously this was a small expirement that I did and made this guide I tried to find the loop holes unfortunately could not so follow them without skipping even a single step and unroot the device

SeNt frOm my A\/\/€$♡/\/\€ NoTE 2 using xDa premium app
If ask me how to unroot, i like to say just two lines.
-Use triangle away (i don't have issue with any version) to reset counter on existing ROM, reboot to download MOD directly, (you will have option to reboot normally/download mod after reseting counter on TA screen) DON'T BOOT NORMALLY
-Flash Stock ROM (non rooted) with PC odin
-Done !
If you have modified status still - then only do factory reset.

try this?
You guys knowing triangle away is not for redistribution ?
You must have to get from original thread.
Repeatedly it had been warned and you may get banned from xda.

[Q] Warranty reversion ?

Hi.
I have a charging problem and would like to return the phone to the shop i got it from but i have flashed so many roms and i need to bring it back to stock which i have a backup for on extsd but i know there is something called a flash counter which i am to reset or something like that and also the stock backup i have is rooted so i need to unroot it.
I have never had the need to return any phone i have ever had so i am kinda new to the whole thing of rewinding the process so is there someone out there that have the knowledge or know how to help me out
Maybe a link to a guide on this matter

well just go stock with root privelge then install triangle away by chainfire run it go through the instruction ,this will reset your counter 0 and official and if not then u can wipe cache and dalvik and chk again but normally it does.
boot your phone up and unroot from supersu menu done.

well its not abt the triangle if you have flashed custom firmware installed then your binary count must have increased so to take it back to 0 u need to flash triangle away ,check your device status in download mode or install triangle away after that open triangle away it will ask for some file download and then when you proceed to reset counter it will show there too how many counts u have or rather you have nothing

make sure you enable usb debugging before doing anything
Nice one thanks

The following will surely work
1) installed pre-rooted firmware
2) Use TA to reset counter
3) Use titanium backup to wipe data from Enterprise Sysscope and Sysscope ( Sysscope may be frozen so, de-frost it and then wipe data).
4) Format the Ext SD card as it may contain some backups which might trigger the modified status or remove the Ext SD card
5) Use Root explorer to delete busybox from system/xbin/busybox (Since full Unroot will not delete busybox, the Sysscope will scan the phone for this after boot and change the Status to modified)
6) Full unroot using Super user
7) Reboot and enjoy
This will make the phone perfect without any traces that you refreshed at all. Once you the repair is done, you can put the Ext SD card back in.
