try recovery again: (pull battery then replace. immediately vol up + home + power. release power button when you get a vibrate/samsung logo and/or blue text in the top left corner)
if that doesnt work, i would use odin to flash back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625&highlight=stock+firmware
then root/install cwm, make a backup and then flash a new rom again.

About 2 at most. Just boot into recovery like he said and flash again. I'm sure CM updates downloads the ROM somewhere you can find. Why I don't like using updaters

...make sure you have something to flash before you wipe system, or you will just get to the Samsung logo.... Wiping the system wipes the ROM..

First thing is to just step away for a minute i had the same thing happen to me. Put the ROM you want plus gapps on a sd card. and then get into revovery. at this point if you getting htat far into the boot you should have no issue getting into recovery it just kinda of a pain (usually take me 3 tries lol)

phone shuts down/reboots very often

So I thought I would give up my inexperienced life of flashing and possibly bricking my device(sent it in to get jtag repaired), so I attempted to put it back to stock. I got odin up and running, Downloaded(for the most part) the tar that would make it stock again. about 98% into the flashing it failed and made me a little nervous. I later remembered to flash the kernel, and with it, the phone booted up. Fine and dandy one day yadda yadda yadda.
Now comes day 2, and it just randomly turned off and booted again. it got to the little android boot screen, then shut down again, rinse repeat at different times of the boot process, add in some random shutdowns when I'm at the home screen and using my phone and there you have it.
I figured it was using an unfinished stock rom trying it's best to function, so I tried to put in clockwork mod. I did, but it was very difficult as I navigated through clockwork recovery, the phone would select things on its own, making the rooting process a giant pain. With that monkey on my back, I managed to root and install the juggernaut v.5 rom(which totally rocks) to see if the probably persists. The end result was it still happened, but when it didn't, I was able to work with it normally. At this point in time, I am trying to keep my phone turned on because if for a second the screen shuts off, the phone will start trying to shut itself down and game over. This is still very very annoying and was wondering if you fine people would happen to point someone thats green as grass with this stuff in the right direction

You have definitely earned my thanks for providing such hearty solutions! I am super paranoid now when it comes to downloading files like those. my major concern is if the files never download completely :O I followed what was in that first thread to tooth, and as I installed that md5 towards the end I got a giant fail. regardless, I thank you for the awesome support man:good:
Hmm, try reflashing your recovery. Mount your USB (If you cant, take out your SD card, and mount it on your PC) and place this file on the root of your SD card( Just easier to find this way)

Flash it, and restart recovery. Your recovery should act normal, and do a clean install of whatever ROM you wish. By the way, Juggs was my first DD (daily driver) to!!

Lol, no its CWM 5.0.2.7 or aka, CWM non-touch, I got that link from TDJ's OP, he so kindly provided us a link for it. From your OP, it sounds like CWM did not flash correctly, you can flash a recovery within a recovery, you just have to restart it or reboot your phone for it to take into effect. Do you have the T989 or T989D?

Did you do a clean install? Darkside Superwipe, flash ROM, reboot, wait ten minutes, then reboot?
Sent from AOKP Goodness :-D
Yeah unfortunately it is still randomly rebooting....washing lol
An update to this: all the same symptoms occur, but for some reason when I flashed darkside rom 3 the symptoms occurred less! For example, last night I was able to use this device for 4 hours straight without it acting up. I really wonder what the problem is. I. Mean the thing acts like an angel when in Odin mode, but when it comes. To cwm or anything else it tends to spaz out.
I too have this happening now. I don't know why its been doing it. I was running the latest aokp and than it started rebooting and shutting off. So I went back to my nandroid backup and still continues. Running darkside v7, and problem is still there. Anyone know why this is happening?
It started happening while listening to music.

the only way i know how is through odin. I've done it a few times. at the end of the flashing I find that the phone turns itself off or something which marks it down in odin as a FAIL..when in actuality it flashed....it just needs a kernel flash and it'll all be candysticks and lollipops.
At this point in my phones life though, however, it is increasingly harder to do anything in clockwork since the button is fudged up. I think I might have to pony up 35$, but if you can Odin your phone back to flash and tell T-Mobile/Samsung about it, you can probably get the repair for free

Odin you noob. Why do you even waste time with posting such useless garbage? If you can't get back to stock from Odin then post.
I handed my phone to my mother to show her a picture and when she went to hand it to my aunt, my aunt dropped it. I didnt think nothing of it when I locked the screen but when I went to unlock it, my phone restarted and went to a straight black screen and started to vibrate over and over again. I tried to pull the battery and then re-insert it and boot into recovery but when recovery showed up and I went to restore to a previous ROM the phone rebooted itself and started vibrating again. Now I'm at the computer trying to place it into Download Mode. The screen pops up that says to either push Vol + for Download or Vol- for restart. When I press Vol+, the phone restarts and goes straight to a black screen again.
And I'm not a noob, I know what I'm doing my phone just started acting up
And I'm Running the AOKP ROM with Eugene's ICS Kernel with the Tmo_SGH-T989_LC8_Radio
What previous from were you trying to restore?? When you restore a nand back up you have to make sure that the rom you're restoring is the rom that's already installed. In other words if you wanted to restore a back up you would have needed to flash the correct rom before hand. Though I'm confused because if you did try and restore a previous rom say a cm9 back up and you have aokp currently installed it shouldn't work. Cwm will tell you there's a mismatch and it aborts the installation. My guess is this drop did some damage. Your phone isn't making it past post per say of your using pc terms. Can you try and boot back into cwm? You said download mode doesn't work. But does cwm?

maybe hardware problems if you dropped it, wasn't bricked, we usually say bricking a phone from bad flash, don't we? lol, i am not sure. try taking off sim card, micro sd card and battery then carefully put them back on next time if you have problems from drops etc........
Got to admit the whole "Brick" wording gets thrown around way too much for my liking and lets be honest if you are not a noob then you know all the steps to take in my opinion to try and restore your phone. If those steps dont work and you have researched the web then let Insurance kick in if you have it.
Not trying to flame or be an ass but just saying any non noob should know the steps to try and bring our phone back from the dead... I dont think starting a "Brick" thread should be on that list... Coming from the epic touch where the ICS kernel was bricking everyone its just makes me cringe when I see that word.... My bad man if you don't care for my opinion

Yes people jump the gun and post bricked phone threads but that's probably because they are panicking.. And yes I agree that people should use the search function and read whenever possible.. And yes people should be reminded to do so..
But if you have the time to criticize someone then why don't you try to help them too..
If you have nothing helpful to add then don't post anything
I like my Roms the way I like my women..... Clean and smooth
I had this same problem, when I tried to go in to recovery and do a restore it would reboot its self even while flashing a Rom.what I did was...go in to recovery and quickly clear cache before it reboot then go back and clear dalvik then go back and try to flash the same Rom you had installed. It did work for mange when I was trying to restore.
Hope this helps

so you tried..
1. remove battery.
2. plug in phone to usb on computer with battery STILL OUT
3. while plugged in hold down volume up and down.
4. Still plugged in and still holding the volume up and down, insert your battery.
5. boom choose continue and find download mode.
If this doesn't get you to DL mode then either something broke hardware wise when you dropped it, OR your not being honest with what you did to cause the problem..

Modified file phone wont boot

i had to use a method from remonpie to attempt to install unauthorized updates after rooting my phone. the method:
Step 5: Tap on build.prop > ES Note Editor. Make the following changes to ro.product.model and ro.product.manufacter:
Note: You can actually change this for any other device as well, by the way. We chose the Nexus S because it is the most supported phone.
ro.product.model = Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer = samsung
i modified my .build file to read "Nexus S", once doing so it didnt succeed, so i rebooted the phone and now its just on a dead black illuminated screen. itll say samsung s3 then just illuminate a black screen.
ive reset the battery after 20 plus minutes and so forth. i did save the original file to another folder but it my laptop doesnt register the device, the phone when plugged in so i cannot modify the files.

alright, well im trying to install the newest cynagen rom right now but im getting a cant mount sdcard issue. my phone also fails to go into clockworkmod unless i run odin then remove reinstall the batt then run the up volume, home, pwr command. trying to put it in recovery anyother way just puts the phone in the stock recovery rather clockwork

When phone is off: hold power, home, and vol up until you see the small blue text in the upper left, then let go. I think if you hold them too long it just boots normally.
If your in a boot loop pull the battery to power down.
after a headache some failed odin passes ive come to the conclusion that its a soft brick and am currently restoring the phone with the stock firmware now. ill get back to you in a second. fml, i never backed everything up via titanium neither shame on me
..reporting back. the factory restore was a success. for future reference i still am not sure how to attack the "cant mount sdcard" issue...now lets see how much has been lost, aside from my photos and contact i should be good
well wtf now my phone is consistently interrupted by a notification "unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped."
okay had to clear contact data and contact storage data. thank you google.
nowww i have reason to question that there may be misc disc space cluttering my internal drive because its only registering 400mb of free space of 12gb, when its a 16gb device...any advice?
If I recall correctly, es file explorer causes problems when you use it to edit build.prop. I always use root explorer and have not encountered any issues.

Cannot Access Download Mode

Hey there guys- pretty sure this isn't already posted, but apologies if it is.
Anyway, I bought a used NoteII recently, and there seems to be some weird stuff going on. I recently tried accessing download mode, but each time I do I get kicked into the stock recovery. (There's a little android on it's back with a red triangle with an exclamation mark on it if that helps)
I've also tried using Kies to restore, but after using Firmware Upgrade and Initialization, it says that my device doesn't support that.
Any help is appreciated!

[Q] Unresponsive Screen + Bootloop

I brought my phone in to have the charger port replaced. It worked fine ad then all of a sudden the phone boots up, stays booted for a minute and then reboots. also the screen is unresponsive.
I have used a gnex kit to get into CWM and erase cache and dalvik cache and fix permission and the problem is not resolved.
with out the gnex kit i can't even get into CWM and all i get is a little droid guy with an open stomach hatch with a red mark.
i would erase all data and factory reset as a last option but i have some work photos on the device that are extremely important for me to extract. I should also mention that with the CWM kit I am unable to find the files I wish to pull yet for the few seconds I am able to boot into android my photos are there in the album.
can someone please help me find a way to extract those files so I can try to wipe the device and move on?

I was able to get all the files off that I was looking to get, albeit during 20 second intervals in which the phone would allow me to before rebooting....
which brings me to my next point - Phone is stuck in bootloop after following (successfully) this guide to flash stock and unroot which, needless to say, seems strange to me.
Now I supposedly have a fully formatted i9250 maguro with a fresh flash of stock running and i'm stuck in a boot loop which if i leave sitting long enough will eventually get to the "Welcome" [choose your language] screen with an unresponsive display panel until it reboots after about 30 seconds.
please help.
EDIT: I flashed the Factory Image Android 4.2.2 (JDQ39) and still stuck in bootloop with unresponsive screen. maybe this is better as a paperweight??

Thats strange. But you have your files and you are on completely stock unrooted. If you still have warranty you can send it back. Maybe you can try this: http://xda-university.com/as-a-user/how-to-recover-from-a-bootloop

Strange Fix reveals deeper issue
good news and bad news
Alright, so I have swapped the motherboard with an old gnex i had laying around that has a broken screen that wouldn't turn on at all..
I found out that the motherboard on the old phone must be dead because it won't work in the newer phone so I put the guts of the newer on into the broken screen phone and it worked perfectly - albeit with a huge crack in it. so i then thought maybe the issue was solved and put the guts that worked back into the original phone and it is unresponsive and reboots... I've come to the conclusion that the screen is the issue on that device.
but is this fixable??? i have taken the whole thing apart and can't see how that screen could be shorting the device and cause it to reboot nor can i understand why it wouldn't be responsive to the touch for no reason.
anybody have a clue how i can fix that?
