I root my E4GT successfully and then I flash the kernel(SXTP_Agat_FL24-v0.4.0.tar) via Odin. I flashed my phone and my battery life is between 4%-7% after flashing my phone it reboot itself and then go to home screen after a few seconds it reboot itself over and over. I can't use my phone. How can I flashed my phone without using Odin?
What was running previously on your phone, GB, ics. ?
Was it previously rooted?
How old is your phone? How old is your battery?
What shoe size are you?

rebooting after flashing
I'm having a similar issue. I'm coming from KT's slim rom 3.1 to GB27 rooted stock. When it started booting in the middle of the flash - right from download - I knew there was an issue. I tried flashing stock rooted EL29. I tried the EL29 modem, and EL26 CWM direct-boot kernel. I successfully flashed back to slim after a few hours and multiple random reboots, but when I got back into it, it rebooted again constantly! I was looking at the charging animation for a few seconds, then the boot animation, then the charging animation again. That's when I decided that the power button is probably stuck. I did a search and found this. I took the phone completely apart and used tweezers to gently squeeze the metal around the power button. So far, it's working, but I anticipate another random reboot any moment. If you all have any other suggestions, let me know.
Okay. I just got back from Sprint. they tested the battery first, and it is definitely bad. This is a common issue which I am being told has to do with bad official firmware. secondly, the tech installed a "buffer" under the power button, which seems to have resolved the random reboots. Time to get a new battery on Amazon.

The battery issues have nothing to do with bad firmware. It is fully hardware related. They packed 1800mah into a 1500mah battery and to do so had to thin out the cell walls. Heating and cooling makes the cells expand and contract and ultimately making them fail over time, causing the battery to go bad. It has nothing to do with firmware. It is bound to happen to anyone with the E4GT.

Exactly right. Heat is the worst culprit for killing these batteries. Cutting the cell walls to the bsre minimum safety standards was a poor design by Samsung trying to keep the phone as thin as possible while still getting the biggest battery they could squeeze in there.

Graydiggy, the sprint tech was probably referring to ICS, when he said bad firmware .
EK is right, heat is the worst enemy of a battery. That's why you want your phone to be in open ventilated area when charging.

I also ran custom roms, tried several but stuck with Calkulin's ics build for many months, there was a lot of theming for ics, which i enjoyed.
My biggest headache with ics was when the wife's phone on stock ics went bonkers, especially with battery life. (Wifey was resistant to root, had to sneak it in)

Well, I'm still getting random reboots. It only started happening after I went from AOSP back to TW, and it's happened to me once before on a previous E4GT. It's FUBAR now and going back to AOSP ain't gonna fix it. Is the random rebooting caused by the bad battery? Is the battery bad because of ICS and GB TW, or just the Odin flashing?

Hey guys, I got a Nexus a few months ago and passed the Epic to the g/f (which I regret). Anyway, I have AOKP 35.1 on it and she is having issues. Maybe I forgot some Epic flashing routes.
The phone has EI22 baseband and I am looking to find the best g/f friendly rom (one where I can flash for her and have zero problems).
What do you think is the safest set up?
*Its been a while since I flashed on the Epic. I am on EI22 and I see EL30 is the newest build for GB. Do I need to use odin to get that, or can I just flash on top of EI22?
**I see FC09, is that the newest official?
Try cm7 or the peoples rom. The peoples is TW based it really is a matter of taste. I have my wife on CM7 which she loves she hates TW.

She prefers TW, and I was thinking the Peoples Rom. Where i get lost is all of the MTD, BML stuff. I dont remember having all of those options before.
What is the process to go to the Peoples from where I am? AOKP with EI22... I think EXT4 (is there a way to check?)

If you're on aokp you are on mtd... fc09 is the newest ota release... if she likes tw then clean gb el30 (she will be bugged by update message) or the peoples rom 2.2 (fc09) would be the best way to go...

So far all issues were resolved with clean installs, V 6 Supercharger or turning off the Optimizer because of bad 4G due to Sprint. 3000 downloads strong, seems pretty solid to me but I may be biased.

She just gets nasty over some stupid crap sometimes. Plus, she travels a lot so I don't get much chance to work on the phone. Anyway, that was a year ago.
My lady likes to run whatever I am on. I find this useful for troubleshooting. If I can't recreate an issue on both, it's not a real issue. I made her sit on stock unrooted for a few days last month when she got a replacement phone from dropping it, and she couldn't wait to get back on an ICS rom. She made it through the random reboots on gb leaks, so anything out these days is easy for her to handle. It really depends on the individual. My techy ways have rubbed off on her over the years lol. She is smart enough to use her ipod (i know...) on wifi with a free messaging app to ask for help in the few situations that confuse her. She's a looker, does laundry, is a great mother, works, and cooks extremely well too! Needless to say we are getting married this July. I'm not sure exactly why I waited 14 years to ask her when I say it like that lol.

My first 2 units suffered from hot reboots and dropped data even on stock roms. I hosed my 2nd phone and the third is on the way. I've been using my Epic 4G Touch this week and it flat out smokes the Nitro. Even running CM9 overclocked, the Nitro is slower than a stock GS2. I love the screen on the Nitro but the battery life and bugginess make it hard to deal with sometimes. I still think that a finished build of CM9 or even LG's version of ICS can make it the phone it should've been.

I dont see why not. The E4GT is still a high end phone and should be able to handle JB. But Sprint will most likely take a long time to roll it out and by then, we'll have a stable cm10 build
im pretty sure after all the gnex do. hell even the nexus s has it already

I'm sorry but I'm tired of seeing you post the same thing over and over and over again. We all get it, you don't like ICS, or it doesn't work well for you, maybe it kicked your dog... something... be that as it may this is only your OPINION. You refer constantly to the ICS debacle. I'm not sure what this means, as ICS seems to work very well for the large majority of users around here. I'm sure at this point you be tempted to bring up what you think are bugs. Keep in mind these issues do not apply to the vast majority of users. Keep in mind that most of the people posting about how bad ICS is don't even understand why not doing a full wipe and keeping the GB app framework would cause the majority of the issues they are having. Keep in mind most of the people posting these issues seem to be allergic to research and problem solving skills, instead choosing to post "dis broke,y u no fix it for me naow!"The only issue I EVER had with ICS was sub par battery life until I took the time to set things up properly, then I was back to 18-24 hours to a charge with ~4 hours of screen time. Insofar as JB I've been running sbrissens aosp, it is fantastic, definitely an improvement on ICS and I can't wait to see how awesome it ends up given its useability in these really early alphas- I've had no problems using it as a daily driver....lastly as to why you think this is a "GB device" I just simply do not understand. The hardware in this phone is still better than 3/4 or more of the devices currently on the market. Are you telling me you don't think a class leader, like the e4gt, is capable of receiving an os upgrade ~7 months after its launch. Hell, until June this was still the best phone out. Hell, ICS runs awesome on the og evo and the damn hd2! The argument that this phone is a "gingerbread device" is just downright stupid, sorry.
I did not mean to flame you nor am I trying to be an ass. But I've seen you post the same thing so many times I finally had to say something. Your opinion is not fact.
And on topic yes I think we'll see official jb, I could care less though, other than for kernel source , I'm never leaving aosp/cm10/eventually aokp jb for anything... too good...

Is it the new 4.1 update? Because when I flashed it, it was horrible. It was also the Alpha 2. I kept getting lost signal, my 4G kept dropping, my phone stayed in Airplane mode when I turned it on. I kept having to do a reboot.

I guess Google Voice Dial is still broken and that's a Google issue that only they can fix. If so, that and the small and dark desk dock screen are enough to keep Jelly Bean from being a daily driver for me on any phone.

Try rest- installing your modem, go to Rwilcos's repository, find Jb roms get a GB08 one click modem and GB27 one click modem download both, extract the GB08 and install. Test your 4g, if it solves the issue test for a while then flash gb27 and see how that goes.

This is what I am afraid of, hardware problem. I don't have insurance. I had this phone for over a year and a half.

Does sound like hardware problem have you drop it recently because wifi can do that to if you drop it hard enough it'll do the same thing

No. I have never drop the phone. I tried again today and once 4g connected, the phone was responsive; but once I saw the arrows light up for data going in or out, it freezes right away at that point.
I think I figured out what caused the freeze. I think it was avast security. After I uninstalled it, 4G was working again. Then when I reinstalled, 4G freezed again. So I uninstalled and it's working again.
Now why would you install something like that on your phone?

For protection. lol. Mainly for the anti-theft feature. I finally have 4G working again. Avast was the problem all this time and I even mentioned it in my first post that 4G stopped working after I updated avast.
Woah I just recently came back from CM10.1 Wild for the night April 17th build and flashed GB27 stock rooted full restore and I LOVE IT.
No other mods were applied I just used greenify, which is pretty amazing and you can get it here:

I got amazing battery life! Again no mods or battery hacks or tricks. Just pure heavy usage with greenify's help!:laugh::good::good:
Stock or stock based is good stuff

I was getting more than that on my E4GT without root/greenify. Maybe battery is going bad or still need to settle with a few cycles. But good you're loving it.
Some tips for more battery with your setup.
1. Lower brightness to 10 - 20%
2. Disable unnecessary sync or set to every 2 hrs. Or more.
3. Disable haptic feedback.
4. Backlight set to 30sec or 2min max.
5. If you have games disable in game notifications.
6. Greenify will take care of the rest.
And you will be golden.

You were right! :good:
I agree with the OP. In my opinion, Samsung did a good job with jelly bean for this phone. However ice cream sandwich IMHO was terrible to the point where the phone was almost unusable.
Some times I think that the E4GT can't handle jelly, bc my phone freezes way more often than it ever did on gingerbread.

I soft bricked over the weekend and sprint tech's said no go have to get a new phone however I new it still had a heart beat and hope. After alot of trial and error, and not knowing what I was doing but I fianlly restored it to life. Went from being rooted to being stock and other than the app tweaks i liked from Xposed settings. Everything seems to run better and smoother it is kind a like tasting an awkward yet intriguing foood you've never eaten. Thinkning about running stock for a few days and seeing if I can handle not being able to get into tablet mode.
Would like to get back to the same tech's that said no go and say an old man never giving up got it to work even though he is not sure how?
Besides I will probably get more done if I'm not always trying to keep up to date with the nightlies.

I wanted to stop reading after your first sentence. But I continued reading anyway.
First of all, they want you to buy a new phone. If you can see the splash screen it can almost always be recovered by flashing a full tar or one click. Don't ever listen to the morons Sprint hires.

Your going to fall in love with your phone all over again.
And your right, your phone should not add to what you already have on your plate, your phone just needs to come on when you need it and be able to use it without having to wipe, reboot, reinstall a modem or reflash anything.
That's what stock or stock/rooted can do for you.
I'm running Kobridge's gb27 st/rooted/deodexed rom and Tdunham's AIO mod. Stock but cool.!!!!

Bloatware and all it seems pretty zippy and I do like everything working like it was intended. I only miss tablet mode for email and Gmail other wise I've been pretty content. I do thnk they did a good job.
I feel like an outcast running stock.
Hello I'm a flash junkie running stock are you going to try and catch me running clean.....
I'm pretty happy with my S2. GB27 is very smooth and the battery life fluctuates, but I normally get a full day out of it. Everything is buttery smooth, even with Nova Launcher. Plus, I'm rooted and can delete all the bloatware.
