Hey I just recently flashed to the latest Solar Flare v.5. My phone loaded it fine and booted up equally smooth however once it gets through the setup it begins saying "SD card safe to remove". I have tried remountig in settings however it just unmounts itself again. I've redownloaded the ROM and reflashed twice. Also I have reformatted my SD card in recovery and upgraded from ext2 to ext3. Any idea whats causing this? Ive had root for a few years now however I'm still an amateur when it comes to this stuff

Ok,try shutting off your phone, take your sd card out and then replace it,it could be that maybe you could have bumped your phone and jolted the sd card.Try that and see what happens,if it doesnt work,we will try something different.

That was another thing I had tried last night. It is still doing it. Every thing else on the ROM seems to work fine. It just keeps unmounting the card

Okay nevermind for now. I decided I was going to switch to new recovery and try that. But I hit the wrong button and ended up just rebooting for like the 10th time and it works for now. If the problem pops up again I'll probably try the new recovery and see if it helps.
Thanks though!

So I have searched for this error and no one seems to have an answer that fits my problem. I got an error after booting that stated SD card unexpectedly removed and gave me a triangle with an exclamation point in the center
the card works fine
it will mount up perfectly from recovery, i even pushed several roms to it and tried (cyanogen, RR, and SkyRaider) all three worked beautifully, but as soon as I boot up BAM "SD card unexpectedly removed" and I can't access anything
the computer reads it just fine so I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the card, also with it reading in recovery it seems there is nothing wrong with the phone
is this a problem with ROMs?
I could try to do a factory reset and see if that works... but its really annoying :\
any help?
I would try reformatting the card on your PC. The card may have a bad sector that the PC and Recovery ignore. The phone OS tends to be a little more picky about those sort of things.

This worked
Thank you, I am running good now
I noticed when I was trying to backup my SD card (pictures and whatnot) that some of the files were corrupt
I will make sure I keep a regular backup just in case its a sign of the card going bad
good thing is my titanium backups were all perfect

You are on the right path - don't forget, a good practice is to back up your SD card to your PC regularly.
Why? If (when really) the SD goes wonky, you have a PC backup of the card, and you can get another SD, format it on the PC, load the backups you made, and be back in business in short order.

My solution was to format and start over, that was the only thing that worked for me
I've gotten this a few times and it is a PITA because it resets all the notification sounds and also the phone reboots. Once it does it, the only way I can get it to work is to remove the card, put it in the PC, let Win7 do a fix and repair errors and then it will work. I tried removing and reinserting, and it would mount the card and immediately give me the 'sd card unexpectedly removed' message.
I tried reformatting, and the sd card worked for a while and then I got the 'unexpectedly removed" message again after a few days. The last time it gave me that message, I just did the repair errors thing again and it's been working without fail for about 4 days now. It seems like it's going to be an ongoing thing though.
I've been googling like a mad person trying to find a real fix for this. I saw a thread on Android central where they guy said he put his wife's card in his phone and it did the same thing; but worked fine in hers. He mentioned it might be related to the 2.2 OTA update. My problem did start after that update.
In another forum thread, someone posted that they bought a new card, and it gave them the same message. So it doesn't appear to be a bad card; which is what I originally thought. I'd hate to buy a new one and have same issue (i have a 16gb card currently).
(sorry for long post)
I have the same problem! I'm using a Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 2. Previously i've been running Froyo 2.2 over the phone with a 16 GB microSD Card without problem. Later i've been using a 2 GB microSD Card and works fine, but now i'm runnin' Gingerbread ROM From verizon with 16 GB microSD Card and the messages "SD Card unexpectedly removed" don't stop.... the card works fine over other phones... even the stereo of my car can read perfectly the card's content.
I don't know if this is a problem with the update or what????
I don't think in the versions of "Bad sectors" because i check everthing and the problem persist.
The problem appears when i'm playing music... later of that the problem appears at the camera, the file explorer or another app that tries to read the SD Card.
I reboot the phone and works fine but after a couple of minutes the same [email protected]$%&t appears again....
I'm tired of reading forums telling me that is a problem with the sectors... that is a LIE!
no matters the class of the card because i've tried with Class 2, Class 4 and works fine.
This night i'll go to the store that solds me that coursed card to change it!
if tomorrow my problem was solved i been writing at this same forum!

I do not think someone saying it is bad sectors means they are lying.
I think they are merely trying to help you determine what the problem could possibly be.

did you format the card and try again as suggested earlier? That usually clears up any issues with sd cards unless they're fubar'd. Just make sure you back your card up first.
Whenever my card does this I put it into my Windows computer, right click on the card and go to properties/tools/error checking/ and check both boxes and let it run. It fixes my issues every time without formatting the card.
I had that problem a while back with one of Verizon's updates after 2.2. Reformatted card. worked fine in other phones but still said same thing everytine I put it back in the dinc. Ended up getting a new SD card then all was fine.

If you have an ext extension on your sd use G-Parted (google it) to format your ext2/3/4 partition.
Now I'm not moaning about CyanogenMod here, I'm just trying to understand how I can fix the issue.
Basically, I had CyanogenMod 7 RC2 on my Desire Z. That was it.
Eventually I saw through ROM Manager that the full release of 7 was out so I downloaded, took a backup, wiped everything and did a fresh install of the new ROM.
It installed fine, but none of my apps that needed root access were getting it.
So I booted into recovery, restored my backup, root was back.
I then installed 7.0 over my RC2. That worked fine, but again root was gone.
At this point, my phone started damaging SD cards.
It suddenly started saying that my 8GB card that came with the phone was damaged. I tried to fix it on the phone, but it just said 'Checking card' and then giving up.
Putting it in an old MP3 player, it is not detected at all.
Putting it in a card reader, the card is unreadable and when I try to format it Windows says the card is 'read only' (this is not due to the reader).
I put a functional 2gb card I had lying around into my Desire Z and it broke it in the exact same way.
My question to you guys is - what could be causing this and how do I fix it because I have a 16gb card coming and I'm obviously cautious of putting it in the phone.
Also, how would I go about flashing the new Cyanogenmod 7.02 ROM if my phone keeps breaking SD cards I put into it?
This error can be because when ever you install a CyanogenMod ROM over another, It leaves files your new ROM think is useful such as data that the new ROM doesn't support. It is damaging your SD Card because it keeps attempting to fix the error but is making it worst by trying to remove system files. Your best bet is to try another ROM and see if it does the same thing and report it to CyanogenMod Developer Team if it only does this to CyanogenMod ROMs otherwise it would be just a virus on your SD Card feeding off of personal data. If it is only CyanogenMod ROMs, we will adress this issue ASAP. Hope I helped
Thank you VS4, you are indeed helpful
I've since heard some people have managed to fix their SD cards by formatting them in ClockworkMod but I can't even mount it first in order to do this! Is my card truly dead?
Also, do you think the reason that CM7.0 had no root (even when it was a clean install) was due to me not 'fixing permissions'?
Thanks
Just a note to say that I've managed to fix it!
Despite being unable to 'mount sdcard' in clockworkmod, I found I was able to activate USB Storage and through this I was able to format the card (Windows 7 was previously saying that the same card was 'read only' in a multitude of card readers).
I hope this helps any poor chap with the same problem.
I had this exact same problem, munched 2 of my 8GB cards, and had a 16 on the way. I somehow fixed it before the 16 came and I've never had the issue since, glad to see an explanation of it.
Thanks, nofixio!
I had the same problem on my Samsung Fascinate with CM7. It ate my 16GB SD card to the point where the phone wouldn't recognize it, CWM wouldn't mount it, and it wouldn't show up on my computer in multiple SD readers.
I wasn't quite clear what you were suggesting when you said you were able to "activate USB Storage." I thought maybe you meant within CWM. That didn't work for me, but I was able to boot the phone up with the problem SD card in it and turn on USB storage as normal. Suddenly my computer could not only see the SD card, it could see all the files that were on it before it died! I backed everything up, formatted the card in Windows, and everything's good now. Thanks for the tip!

im running cm7 ... it wont read from computer. i tried several micro sd card readers. it just tells me it cant format. its just like what was mentioned before.
Weird, I've never had any problems with Cyanogen 7 roms. I've flashed one over another and had no issues at all, Mayb because I use SuperWipe before hand? Or maybe its a certain sd card issue???
Running Desire Z and Andromadus Beta 11 I had similar problem after I had applied remote wipe from Exchange (wanted to see if it works). Remote wipe worked: it destroyed contents of SD card and erased phone back to factory settings. After wipe mounting SD card failed and Andromadus seemed to be unable to format the card.
Solution: Booted phone to Clockwork recovery and applied advanced -> Partition SD Card.
Posted this on this thread since it came first when searching solution.

Go into Recovery (Clockwork), go to mounts and storage, then scroll down and it should say mount USB storage.
Okay, I updated to 2.3.5 europe just last week using the RUU extracted installer. All was well and lovely until two days ago.
My SD card has gone crazy. As soon as I unmount and remount the SD card, the phone reads the SD card in a really weird way. The app drawer shows only a few apps that are installed. Majority of apps that I had on the SD card have now vanished - but are still installed because my internal memory is the same - and they still appear in applications list. It says it doesn't exist?
I've rebooted my phone, hard reset, factory reset, format SD card.. everything you can name, I've TRIED IT. Every time I reboot the phone it happens. apps disappear into a black hole. Also, I've reinstalled all apps thrice and cba to do it again! It says "failed to move application" for most apps at first when I try to move them with the App2SD app.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Should I revert back to my old ROM?
Is there a way to fix this? My phone is S-ON, no root.
EDIT: Now I cannot even unmount the SD card...
I had a MAJOR problem where the phone stopped recognizing the SD card. It would literally say unavailable and wouldn't recognize ANY cards at all.

Have you taken out the SD-card and put it back again? Sometimes the phone gets bad connection to the card and "exercising" it may help.

I've tried everything, even changed back from Sandisk to my samsung SD card. Same problem, it keeps rebooting at times and eventually stops and works perfectly.
Really REALLY annoying. It must be the ROM.
Just use Jik's salsa ROM, it runs really smoothly, frees up memory via link2sd and has new lock screen.
Then install the v6 supercharger and battery calibrator for a really great experience with this phone.
Get an XTC Clip and become S-Off, it's great.

My 16GB SD card was randomly unmounting in my phone (Desire HD) I assumed it was a bad card as my PC would not detect it in a card reader. I got a new 16GB card today and it has started randomly unmounting in the phone, I get a warning message and the sd card vanishes.
This does not happen when i use an old 2GB card, the previous 16GB was running in the phone for at least 6 months.

You sure the battery cover is on correctly. If not check the SD Card holder.
Last resort is to go fully stock and see what happens.
If the above fails, its a hardware issue

Thanks for replying but as i originally posted, I have had a 16GB card since probably last xmas, after going to Jellybean it started vanishing and that card is now dead, will not format in anything, PC card reader, laptop or phone. I got a new one and the phone has started ejecting it again. I assume the phone killed the original and this is not a card fault.
I have formatted the new card in PC,phone and my tablet and the phone is still losing it, it's fine on a PC. I am going to replace the SD card socket daughter board on the phone and hope it isn't a fault any worse than that !
Fingers crossed.
Download 4ext Recovery Updater from www.4ext.net and flash 4ext Touch Recovery if you haven't already. Then back up your SD card data, boot into recovery, go to 'wipe | format' and format SD card. Then go to 'tools' and run 'check partition alignment' and 'file system check'.
I used to have this problem real bad a long time ago with both an old 8GB card and a new 16GB card. I messed around a bit with all this and fixed it. I've rarely had the problem since. It happens once in a while, and a reboot fixes it. Not frequent anymore though. Also, format SD card in recovery always. I remember that this problem became very frequent for me when I used to format my SD card in PC with different cluster sizes. Don't know for sure if that was the reason or whether it was coincidence, but I suggest you format in recovery. Unless you use TWRP recovery, which just runs an 'rm -rf' command to delete all folders in SD card and doesn't actually format it. 4ext Touch Recovery is the best recovery for the DHD.

Thanks I will definitely give that a go today before ordering any parts.
I tried all the stuff with formatting and partitions and it made no difference to the new 16GB card, strangely my old 8GB card seems to work fine, so really not sure what would cause this to happen, none the wiser but the 8GB card will do fine for now.
Hey guys!
So I have a little problem with my C2005.
I've been using CM11 recently, but I decided to switch to stock and to swap external/internal. Everything worked fine for me until one day I woke up noticing my phone is shut down, and after restart the SD card was unable to load, awaring me as of "damaged". I put my SD to to PC and another phones and any other device is able to mount it.
I tried to format the card and reinstall the stock system to phone, but still nothing. :/
Any ideas?
Thanks!

are you ever check your memory card with software partition tool for your pc? just check is that your sd card still have active partition? if still have you still have a hope to recover that bro?
Try boot into custom recovery if visible there. You can partition, format sdcard because all tools available there.
