Help please - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am a new member of XDA but have been using XDA for a while without an account. I have a Droid Incredible that I achieved S-off and rooted. I just recently tried installing Cm9 on it using ROM manager and cwm. For some reason my cwm didn't work (wouldn't come up,no recovery) while trying to install cm9. I decided to take battery out and forget about it. It work for all of 3 hours then rebooted and now will not leave a boot cycle I have tried multiple pb31img.zip files but it always says wrong image. I am obviously not so familiar with the dinc as I am with my Samsung galaxy exhibit because that phone is running cm10 and running perfectly so this isn't my first time. So if anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it

Sounds like your sdcard hasn't been formatted properly. You need to ensure your sdcard is formatted to fat32. First, back up your data off it to your computer, otherwise you'll lose it all. Then format your sdcard. As for recoveries, try the latest TWRP (they get more updates, more features, and less issues than CWM for our device, imo) at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38633018&postcount=163 then go back to flashing the ROM of your choice.

Well there's another problem. I can't get my phone to connect to the computer..

If it won't leave the boot cycle, and you can't connect to the pc, how did you get multiple PB31IMG.zip on there? Remove sdcard and use an external reader to plug it directly into the pc, perhaps?

I used my Samsung galaxy exhibit and downloaded to external SD and put it in the other

Do as pons said and use a mirco sd to usb adapter to read and write to the card with your pc. If you dont have an adapter you can get one for like 4 bucks at walmart. Or try using the sdcard out of your other phone. Or use your other phone to format the sd of the inc.

My problem is, I have a fresh reformatted external SD fat32 I place the pb31img.zip file on SD (no folders) and I get something to the sort of

How to unroot

Hey guys I'm sorry if this has been asked but search sucks on the xda app. Anyways I have full root using toast and running fresh 3.1, I need to return my phone so I want to unroot. Can anyone let me know or link me to the process. Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, my Usb port is broken which why I am retiring so there's no way I can connect it to my pc.

You may be able to find some files that you can drop on your micro sd card and unroot by using those through a recovery.
This gets asked almost every day....
Just flash a stock rom:
You can't connect to your computer, so just turn off the phone, remove your SD card, with a card reader (or if your computer has one built in) transfer the stock rom to the SD card. Put the SD back in your phone, boot onto recovery and flash. Done.
Here are the roms. Pick a stock rom, not a rooted one.

Stuck in CWM I need help!

So last night I was running Starburst Rom and decided that I wanted to theme it, so I downloaded the theme I liked for it, flash it in recover, but when I reboot the system it kept boot looping. So I figured that I needed to format it, so I went back into recovery and used Caulkins Format All zip, flashed it, then flashed the theme again. OUCH this time my phone would just show the yellow triangle and Samsung logo ( start up page). I can still go back to recovery but all my other Roms are gone so I cant even restore my phone or anything! What can I do? I used Heimdall to root, can I go back and re root again? Would I still get the stock rom? HELP
Download a rom onto an sd card and flash it from recovery. Format all wipes your entire system, you use format all to have a clean slate before you flash a new rom. You have no os now.
Edit: You could also flash the stock .tar they just put up in the development section, just make sure you read the instructions first or you could hardbrick.

You don't. You download it to a pc or mac and then transfer it to a micro sd card and then put the card in the phone and flash the Rom from recovery.

I have a computer, and I can dowload a rom into it, no problem, my issue is that I cant get this on my SD card due to me not being able to mount the phone in recovery. I tried and it wont. So my solution would be to go to a friends house that has an Android, download a ROM into their phone with my SD card then go back to my phone and flash it.
Do you still have a custom recovery or just the Samsung recovery....sorry i should've asked sooner.

The link i posted is stock. After thats done you can reroot and go from there. Make sure you uncheck the boxes in the instructions or you'll brick. If those options aren't shown then don't flash it. I don't know macs very well.

Copy and paste. Find the rom in your files, copy the zip and paste it in your SD card.

Fair enough, don't rush into anything then. Read, read, read..... Plug your phone into your computer, click in the downloaded rom, drag it into your internal sd card (phone) or your external card (micro sd) reboot into custom recovery, wipe, then flash rom, then reboot

It might seem like a lot of reading and info at first but if you are interested in flashing roms it's worth it to avoid turning your device into a brick.
To respond to your op I use es file explorer to copy files from pc to device via lan shares.
Flash rooted stock firmware via oden on your pc. Install custom recovery (cwm I find works best for stock and asop or aokp over twrp) and make sure you do a backup (nandroid) and IMEI prior to flashing a Rom.

CWM external SD card unable to mount

I was having no problems using and accessing my external sd card from within CWM. Than after some flashes and wipes trying out different roms, and even a complete reset to original rom through ODIN to try and fix it. I can no longer use my external sd card in CWM. It says something along the lines of E:/ cannot mount external sd. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and if there are any solutions?

If the card still reads on your PC I would try to take everything off it and re-format the card. Also maybe try TWRP.I don't have CWM right now but there is probably a selection in it to mount/unmount sd.I know in TWRP the option is there.
HaHa, I had the same problem last night and after spending 5 hrs +, I finally fix it...
After flashing some PA, Jellybam roms, both recovery and the rom can no longer see my mircoSDXC 64gb card. Flashing the latest cwm or twrp did't work. Doing numerous quick and full format on the card to fat32 and exfat didn't work. Restore the stock rom and finally the rom can see the card; however recovery still can't read it. Formatting the card with the rom didn't work. Went to the store and grab a brand new card and still no luck. FINALLY... odin a new cwm recovery fix the problem.... :banghead:

Did you use goo manager to flash? That just pushes the recovery img to the phone not flash it. Ive never had a problem with TWRP with any phone or tablet ive used. CWM on the other hand....thats a different story.

Here's my data point. I had the exact problem of clockworkmod unable to mount external sd card while making a nandroid backup. I tried it via the paid ROM manager plus app without any luck. I sent them a log file.
Then I tried goo manager + twrp and it worked. I donated to twrp.

GooManager/TWRP worked for me.
Sucks trying to use internal memory to flash with only 16GB total.
This is a limitation of driver support for ExFAT, you can force windows into formatting fat32 using a 3rd party utility like this one:

Phone stuck in Recovery (TWRP) OTG Transfer possible?

Hey guys.
So my phone stuck in TWRP screen cause like an idiot I accidently erased system files as well.
Now I tried to adb push a rom bout I tried everything and couldn't get my both mac/windows to recognize the device.
So I now got a OTG cable to connect my USB key which I transferred a rom to use, but how do I get TWRP to recognize my USB key? If I go to INSTALL > EXTERNAL CARD it will not let me click on it.
Thanks!

Male sure your drivers are installed properly and you are using a micro USB cord that supports data. If not it wont see it. When you say it wont connect have you opened Odin to see if it sees your phone in a com port ?
Not sure why it won't see your ext SD card. What's the size of it ?
