you will be able to make phone calls and text people no problem.
the only problem you will have is going to be data connectivity and data speeds because the NOTE2 for AT&T is meant to be used with AT&T LTE.
T mobile's main data band is 1700 which the AT&T phones usually do not have.
To answer your baseband or modem question I believe this thread does not have a modem or baseband for T mobile. You might have luck looking over at their forums, I am not sure.
Good luck to you sir.

The Dell Streak 5 is like the Nexus 4 it has all the HSPA bands. The LTE band for T mobile most likely will be different from AT&T. You can try to unlock it and compare the coverage and speed to your dell streak. I had a dell streak. Great phone!! sold it about a month ago for like 180 bucks.
My suggestion if the unlocked AT&T Note 2 isnt working properly and you want to stay with T MOBILE I would sell it and get the international version.
What you need to is search for how to "enable aws" and you will have 4g working on your device.

Technically no T-Mo customer has LTE yet, until April or so I've been told.
Unless you can predict the future or something, then no one knows for sure.

LoL! I was getting ready to say that.
All I can do is keep my fingers crossed and hope T-Mo uses the same freq as AT&T's LTE...
Then again given the circumstances of T-Mobile shortly taking over MetroPCS for their LTE coverage, they may have a larger or wider band of LTE frequency ranges.
_
I will apparently have T-Mo's 42MBPS HSPA+ as opposed to AT&T's 21MBPS HSPA+
_
Then again, that was my whole intentions of getting an AT&T Note 2 as to T-Mo's Note 2, I've been told there's no LTE Support for the T-Mobile version, but with AT&T I'd have more likely of a chance at having LTE support, once it's available... I still don't to this day don't get why T-Mobile released a crippled down version knowing that they'd have LTE in the near future.
I just didn't know it wouldn't work right away straight outta the box.

What did you guys do to get tmobile 3g,4g and lte fully working on the i317? I have installed the jedi rom and all is working fine besides I have edge...So hopefully I can get a straight forward answer. My eyes are sore from reading.

Or even flash it in At&T SG3. Samsung said the hardware are the same and have all the frequencies. i believe it might not be advertised this way from the carriers. Just thinking out loud.

Eh, I dont think so. Not at first anyway... after some hackery it might be possible.
The US versions are all the same.
The International version is very different.
It will never work.
I have yet to get 5 bars on my SGS3. Kinda odd.
Not a good idea as someone already stated they're different. I did that once by accident with the original galaxy s. Flashed the canadian firmware for the US version of the phone and ended up bricking it. Not even a jig bought it back to life.

It hasn't been tested yet on the S3. And while it works on the Note, it is far from optimal. I have not read since the early stages but it would freeze and get awful battery life on T-Mobile.

The US [GSM] models, ok. The international model, 100% no.
And as I understood, the T-Mobile version is pentaband out of the box (it will get AT&T 3G/4G 1900 MHz) because T-Mobile is moving to that frequency. So if anything, get the T-Mobile one and use it on AT&T if you don't care about LTE.

Well the At&T Galaxy Note is what inspired me to think it might be doable!! The At&T Note i have is working fine with Simple Mobile and picking up 4g all the way. the battery sucks anyways even with the At&T modem. Also, you guys should note that stationed in Kuwait and im using the At&T Note with T-mobile modem overseas and still working great. Yes i have 3G as they dont have 4G here. they funny thing is that i still shows 4G and run about 19Mbps in most places.
I can get the international SGIII in Kuwait for $250 16G unlocked (NICE RIGHT?) but when im home i use the Simple mobile network(T-mobile).
you can call it greed but i want to have 2GB RAM, LTE, T-mobile 4G and the ablity to use every network in the world
I hope someone can make this happen
The reason it worked with the AT&T Note is because the T-Mobile S2 used the same SoC (Snapdragons S3). The US Galaxy S3's have Snapdragon S4's, the International has an Exynos 4412. The SoC's (CPU, RAM, Radios, DAC) are COMPLETELY different. It will NOT work. It's not software magic that got the Note to work. It's the fact that it supported the 1700 MHz frequency. The Exynos SoC's radio doesn't. You'll end up bricking the phone and requiring a JTAG.

I'm using the i9300 (International) on Straight Talk AT&T, which runs on AT&T's base network, and I get full HSPA+ (of course, no LTE). The i9300 runs on AT&T's bands, so if you used it on T-Mobile you'd only get EDGE (for now, because they're moving their network onto the same frequency as AT&T). If the T-Mobile version is indeed pentaband as I suspect, then unlocking it and using it on AT&T will give you the same data speeds as using the international version on AT&T.
I'm currently on att with a note 2 and i've switched to t-mobile and will be recieving a new phone in the mail soon. Should i return it and just flash a t-mobile rom onto my current phone? or should i just sell my att one on craigslist and keep the new t-mobile phone? Any possible loss of features or functionality by sticking with the phone i have?

I don't understand your answer to the OP.
I'm in the exact same situation as the OP. I'm with AT&T but they just took my unlimited data plan away so I'm probably going to switch to T-Mobile.
Are there any bands that the T-Mobile Note 2 has that can't be unlocked on the AT&T model? According to Wikipedia both AT&T and T-Mobile version of the Note 2 have AWS. I heard that you can enable the high speed bands on AT&T's model to work with T-Mobile. Is taht not true?

Tmo hasnt released the update to let tmo gnotes2 work on their lte network, because its not up and running most places... Possibly only update customers who are in Kansas City.
Not too clear if att gnotes2 with att specific firmware would work on tmo's network. Theoretically it should work, but their might be some radio issues that give u shoddy service. Unlocking phones is illegal now, so idk if u could sim unlock ur phone through att to work for tmo anyways. Might have to go through ebay or something to do so.

As the title says I have some questions:
What are the speed differences between AT&T's net work and T-Mobile's? I've read that T-Mobile doesn't have LE yet but it is coming in the near future.
Will my AT&T Note 2 be able to take advantage of T-Mobile's high speed network or do I need to switch to the T-Mobile verions? From what I've read it seems the AT&T one has all the radios to cover all the frequencies that T-Mobile uses so I should be good to go with the phone I have now but some confirmation would be nice.
Thanks.
T-Mobile's HSPA+ network is much faster than AT&T's. Of course there are examples where it isn't, but it's notably faster in most every market.
The AT&T version of the Note 2 only gets EDGE on T-Mobile. You want the T-Mobile T-889, unlocked, to have a true pentaband (with LTE) Note 2.

The T-mobile version is also LTE ready when T-mobile rolls out there LTE network this year we will get an update for our T-mobile Note 2's that will enable the LTE radio.
I do feel that hspa is fast enough though. When I'm in a good coverage area, I get about 17 mbps down and 2 mbps up. I feel that is more then enough bandwidth.
So either way 4G or 4G LTE that they are slowly rolling out. I'm happy with T-mobile's network speeds.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
The truth is it really differs all over. It depends who has better coverage in your area. Because what you're looking at from the carriers specs, that is max speeds your looking at. For example I have tmobile. The max speed I could get with hspa+42 is 42 mb download speed. But in reality I only get about 14-20 average. But my brother in law who lives right next door has at&t and he only gets around 5-10 averages. You should be able to find some kind of map from one carrier or the other that will give you an idea of who is going to give you the best coverage. Or find 2 of your friends who are in the same area 1 with tmo and 1 with at&t and ask them to run speed test with their phones.

Yeah, I've already decied to switch to T-Mobile this weekend. I did the AWS mod. Does that mean I'll have the LTE enabled when they roll it out or will I still only have HSPA speed? From the hardware specs on Wikipedia it looks like the AT&T version has all the radio bands that the T-Mobile one does.
I searched all over the place and can't find a straight answer. Can you get AT&T LTE on a T-Mobile T889 N2? I saw some threads saying you can't but then posts with in the thread saying you can. What's the deal. I am on AT&T service but switching in about 2 months to T-Mobile. That is why I have the T889. Any help or direction to get AT&T LTE working in the meantime would be great.
It won't be possible because I believe the att lte band is a band 2 and the tmobile band is a band 4
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
There is so much confusion about this, I heard they were using the same bands. I think people are waiting to see when TM finally sends out the update that unlocks it . Since neither have LTE in my area, I'm in no hurry, especially since I do Go phone. If Straight Talk gets LTE on TMobile then I'll worry about it.
so lte cannot be enabled on the t889??????
It can, problem is we don't have a confirmed reversible, and safe procedure. I have a draft guide I've sent a few users via PM, but no one's gotten back to me confirming that it worked on their end.
The procedure is a bit involved and requires ADB, QPST, NV_reader_writer and CWM or TWRP along with a couple of other files.
Here's a rather lengthy post explaining what I did and what happened
Okay yeah everything said here is what i gathered. Seems that it can be done but in my exact instance it may not be worth it as i plan on switching to TMO next month. I still get HSPA+ which is plenty fast enough until then.

I had tried that as well. Anyway the device is back on tmobile as of two days ago but thank-you anyway.
I have done an extensive search both on Google and XDA Developers, and could not find an answer to my question.
I know that Samsung has released an LTE compatible version of the S3, the I9305 (LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600). So my question is, when the LTE network becomes available and more prevalent for T-mobile, will I be able to get LTE speeds with an unlocked I9305 S3? Thanks.

As I recall, T-Mobile doesn't offer LTE. Or maybe they have started recently and I just haven't realized it. But nonetheless, you can use the i9305, on T-Mobile seeing as it is an unlocked gsm phone. So it'll go as fast as T-Mobile will let it.
EDIT: Just kidding, T-Mobile DOES have 4G LTE, supposedly the fastest out there too.

That's not all there is to it... They launched LTE-Advanced right off the bat. It is highly optimized over LTE revision 0.
OP, you would not even get HSPA+ on that phone if there isn't support for the 1700 band but you definitely will not get LTE based on the bands you posted.

T-Mobile is unique because they use the AWS 1700 band for LTE and 3G/HSPA. Verizon and at&t use 700MHz for their LTE which is the problem. We should start seeing a bunch of phones launch with AWS LTE this year. I would just wait and see what comes down the pipeline.
