Handwriting on Note 2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Please forgive me if this has been asked before. I'm wanting to learn to use the handwriting on my Note 2. I loved this feature back in the day when I was using Palm and could use the handwriting faster than typing. I can't find a guide to learn the strokes for the characters to use this feature on the Note 2. Can someone point me to a link that I could learn to use the handwriting on the Note 2?

Enable samsung keyboard and in keyboard settings enable pen detection. Change handwriting settings the way you like . There is tutorial too.

It actually learns your writing, and is better at it than any other phone I've had before.
I hated the palm short strokes shortcuts, but I remember a few people who could fly writing that way.

I can't find a tutorial at all.

I find the handwriting recognition to be very, err, uneven. As if it didn't use the dictionary enough, sometimes suggesting things that really aren't words.

Unlike the Palm where you're writing in a special handwriting gestures, with the Note 2, you just write how you usually write - that's the cool magic part of it. No need to learn how to write.

I was amazed to find out it even handles cursive very well.

darekz, any idea why I don't have input languages in handwriting settings
been looking all over the web for a way to add another handwriting language

Hmmm...
I installed additional language (polish PL) from play store. Maybe that is reason why I have a choice?

Were the Handwriting Settings deprecated in 4.3? For the life of me I can't find these settings. They are no longer under the Samsung keyboard settings.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I'm not looking for the Tutorial but the Handwriting Settings (the dialog in the picture). In the Handwriting Settings you can change the Recognition Type, Recognition Time, etc.

Damn. See I'm not insane. Why on earth would Google not include that. Typing on XDA is a pain since I can't spell.
just a quick update. If you use Opera Browser then even stock keyboard works well with your dictionary!

Auto correct in keyboard

My wife misses the auto correct of the iPhone. Does Android have something as comparable, besides the predictive text? The predictive text was just totally messing up her sentences. It doesn't seem to work as good as iPhone. So I assume I'm missing something.
The default keyboard with predictive text is pretty bad. Download SwiftKey 3 Keyboard from the Google Play Store. It will cost you, but trust me, it's worth it.

Used stock for 5 minutes on this phone before getting SwiftKey.

Agree with above. SwiftKey is a must.
Are you guys talking about the Samsung keyboard?
That is terrible, but the jellybean keyboard is really good in predicting your words, so I'd recommend trying to get that.

Another recommendation for SwiftKey. You can type a whole book without ever using the space bar. they let you try it before you buy. 30 day trial I think. Good stuff.
Redundant by now, but yeah, go SwiftKey. You could literally mess up every letter of every word and you would never know lol.

I downloaded SwiftKey for the auto correction feature but still run into issues where (even) SwiftKey knows I spelled a word wrong but will not auto append it to the correct word its predicting. Is there a setting that I am not seeing somewhere as I've been through all the menu's (both native and 3rd party input settings)?
Thanks, she was immediately impressed with the new one.

No problem, that's what we are here for!!
Try Swype beta from the Swype web site. It's not available in the app market. It's predictive text is spot on most of the time and its easy to fix the mistake if it made one.

SwiftKey 3 and S Note?

Hello, I've had my new Note 2 for about 3 days now, absolutely loving it. Just curious if anyone else has noticed that SwiftKey 3 Keyboard does not have text prediction in S Note. Is there any way to enable it? Also curious if it's possible to have the keyboard switch to the Stock Keyboard when the S Pen is pulled out so I can use the handwriting recognition. That would be really awesome. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Bump, any ideas?

I use SwiftKey 3 and the prediction works fine with snote.

I think you will find that it just doesn't work in some places... online forums being one of those places. Does it work in your text and email?

Yes, it works everywhere else I'd expect it to, just not in S Note.

Try renaming LatinIME.apk to LatinIME.apk.bak in system/app, so now Swiftkey is the only and primary keyboard. It could also be named as SamsungIME.apk, i`am on CM10 right now
I don't have a LatinIME.apk in my system folder.

Try SamsungIME.apk.
OK, I tried renaming the SamsungIME.apk, but I'm still not seeing any text prediction with SwiftKey Keyboard in S Note. And now I don't have the Samsung keyboard to use handwriting recognition. So I changed it back.
So everyone else who uses SwiftKey doesn't have this problem in S Note?
Just had a go at typing text into S Note using Swiftkey 3, and as said, i have no prediction.
Oh this is odd. Prediction is working on a pop up note with snote (like when you remove the pen) but not if I open snote manually and start a blank note.

[Q] How do you add languages?

I can't seem to find an answer to this through searching. I see videos where people show they have all language packs, but explain how they got it.
Does anyone know where to get them and how to install them?
PS - I'm not referring to Keyboards. Talking about entire system Language and Input.

I'm not certain if this will work, but if you have Root access, you can try this free app: MoreLocale2. It has some good reviews, but I have never used it.
Easy

Easy just go to setting- language and input- there you can add languages to your key board or change the language for your phone.

[Q] Enabling autocorrect on S4?

Does anyone know how to enable autocorrect on the S4 (T-Mobile)? I have looked in every setting and can't find it. I found the predictive text option and enabled that, but that doesn't autocorrect when you hit a space or punctuation. Is there any solution other than installing a 3rd party keyboard from the play store?
Yea same here

i used this 1 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jellybeankeyboard.f.g&feature=nav_other#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDYsImplbGx5YmVhbmtleWJvYXJkLmYuZyJd
try that or there are more apk here on forumhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966336 such as this 1
In S4 it is called auto replacement.
Go to:
1.Settings
2.My device (tab, at the top)
3.Language and Input
4.Select the set up icon beside Samsung Keyboard
5.Now, touch Predictive text, don’t touch/select the green toggle switch
6.Finally select Auto replacement tick box
That option for "auto replacement" isn't available in those settings.

I feel for you... that was one of the main things about Swype that I liked. Guess what, Swype is already on the s4. Language and input options. I think it dies a better job than the Samsung keyboard. The only thing I am going to miss is the extra number row in the Samsung keyboard which Swype doesn't have.

Auto replacement isn't on USA s4s because of an apple lawsuit if memory serves me right. You can flash some libs and the apk to get it from the international but its supposed to be laggy. Try Google keyboard in play store
