[Q] Retaining the root after the JB update - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Folks,
I have rooted by Samsung Galaxy S3 for At&T and currently run Android version 4.0.4.
I am considering upgrading my S3 to JB 4.1. Will my phone stay rooted after the upgrade. I most likely will go the official route of upgrade detailed below:
samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00050358&fm_seq=55362
Are there any other better option to upgrade to JB 4.1?
Thanks,
Venkat

You could flash a rooted ROM (like Mr. Robinson's in the Development: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426)

[Q] Is there an official US 4.2.2 firmware available for N5110?

No offense to the folks running good versions of the UK 4.2.2 firmware, but since the U.S. version is out does anyone have that available to install on a a rooted but stock N5110 wifi note 8?
www androidcentral com/android-422-now-available-wifi-galaxy-note-8-kies-and-ota
I don't want the UK version (nothing against UK), but I can't seem to find the US one on the forums. Can someone link me if it is available? If not, just confirm that it isn't available yet and I'll just have to unroot and re-root.
Thanks
US stock firmware 4.2.2 is not available.

My US GT-N5110 Note 8.0 was updated to 4.2.2 through the setup menu last week. I found a couple issues with it. I would rather to stay with 4.1.2.
not sure why you can't just upgrade to the US 4.2.2 via Kies and then just root it? I can see if you were asking for a deoxed zipalign stock version, but since you didn't mention anything of that... just unroot and turn your 4.1.2 back to stock, and load up Kies and upgrade to 4.2.2 then root it.

no. it is available....where did you guys come up that it is not?
First I was talking about a version to get that was downloadable on my own not via ota or kies.
I rooted but i am not running custom rom or recovery... Kept everything else stock.
And I can't unroot and update via ota because I get message about my device being modified still after I use voodoo rootkeeper. Anyway I am at a loss on how to update now anyway and I really don't want to use a custom rom. .

I have 2 Note 8.0s (GT-N5110). One is running CM10.2 and the other WAS running that CivZ ROM; now it's running stock 4.2.2 with root. I go back and forth between original ROM with these 2 units. Just using Kies going back to stock. and they are US version of 4.2.2

Could you please let us know where to download the US firmware?

it is at http://www.sammobile.com/, go search your device number...make sure you download the right version. If you have N5110 US WiFi, you should be downloading "N5110UEFMI1_N5110XARFMI1_XAR.zip", unzip it, when you unzip, you should end up N5110UEFMI1_N5110XARFMI1_HOME.tar.md5, and then use odin to flash it...remember, this is stock firmware, so if you device rooted, you will loose...

[Q] There's no going back?

Is it true that once we install the 4.3 leak (loserskater, agriff, saranhai roms for AT&T Galaxy S3 I747) there is no going back to stock?

I understand these 4.3 ROM's are stock but I'm wondering about the possibility of returning to stock via ODIN and upgrading non-root via AT&T?

From what I've read in many threads here last couple days, the correct statement is:
Once you have updated to 4.3 via OTA you cannot return to previous versions(ie 4.1.1 or 4.1.2) in any way.

[Q] Looking for Rom.

I am looking to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.1.1 and I am having trouble finding any links that are not broken for JB LJ7 4.1.1 Stock Rom. I have Sprint Galaxy S 3.
Thanks, Mystical Turkey.

An actual downgrade will brick your device with no known fix....if you can find a custom ROM based on 4.1.2 then go for it...but pure stock is a no no

Well, my reasoning behind the 4.1.1 is that I am wanting to change my MSL and tutorials state that LJ7 is needed with LG2 Radio as well. Do you know how to change MSL to 00000 from current?

As far as I've heard, people have said that the procedure to do that still works on 4.4

[Q] {Q} Downgrade from kitkat to jelly bean

hi guys.. i got a question,, is there anyway to downgrade from kitkat to jellybean?
thanks for answer, if you do it
You can, but it will trigger the KNOX flag.
Just follow the how to info in the Q&A threads.

That depends on how he upgraded to KitKat. If he took the OTA update from Samsung or used Odin to flash it he should have the KitKat bootloader and that would be true, but @civato has a ROM that allows upgrading to KitKat using the Jelly Bean bootloader. If he upgraded that way he can flash the stock JB firmware with Odin and not trip the KNOX flag since that's only done by the KK bootloader.
There's information in the Q&A section about how to check the current status of the KNOX flag.

hydrolynx, confused??? I am happy with JB, as most of the apps are good and a few tweaks makes KK less than spectacular to my needs.
I'd save KK for devices that lack Samsungs features... The newer devices will be anything but KK.

My note was dead last month, then I brought them to Samsung, they told me my software was corrupted, and had to reinstall it, they gave me KK, now I know what you mean gooberdude, KK is totally sucks,
Device overheating problem makes apps closed by itself and I can't even delete some files at my sd card from the folder...
Anybody knows if the software installed by Samsung can I do the downgrade without triggering the KNOX?
Thanks, I miss my old rooted JB and I want to get it back..

Not sure, mine came factory unlocked for use on any network.
There's a post in the general section that covers permanent unlock, you might read through it.
Yes. Unlock, install custom recovery, flash SU binaries, boot, install super SU.
The unfortunate part is most links on XDA for some of that are dead. Need to search Google.
Also, good to Odin flash 4.1.2 first and make sure it works. Then recovery, root, etc.

you only need to unlock it to use on a different network
if you just want to upgrade your rom- install custom recovery and flash rom-

I meant bootloader unlock..... But now I remember.... Not applicable to the S2. ?
Since my t989, I've had Moto X, N5 and M8. All with bootloaders I had to unlock.
