Okay so I have the Verizon phone I'm asking this for a friend because he has att and I'm not familiar. I realize with att phone they have a toolkit which can root. Now does it need to be unlocked or anything for custom roms or is root okay? Because I know with Verizon I had to unlock and root.
Thanks

There is no locked bootloader on the at&t note 2. He can just download the toolkit, install the drivers, and change whatever he wants to.

Oh sweet! Thanks for confirming that we can start flashing kernel after root.

I have a Note 2 i317m from rogers, but I had it unlocked for use on the telus network.
If I root it, will I have to unlock it again ? and will I lose everything on the phone ?
I'm new to rooting, I just don't want to take any chances in losing everything, also, is there a way to back everything up and get it back on the phone after rooting if I choose to root it?
just trying to cover all my bases before I get it rooted.
thanks.
Try to flash a prerooted software google it

Thanks, I'll see what I can find. Only did this once before, and it was years ago. Trying to get back into it.

I might not have said the title right but I come from an HTC phone and need help for my friend. He has the s3 and I told him that I've unlocked my boot loader, s-offed my phone and installed a custom ROM I have the HTC evo 3d. So he now wants to do this with his s3. But I don't know how that phone works. So how do I s-off (or if I have to what else is s-off for the s3), unlock the bootloader (or whatever else I have to do similar to this to allow custom ROM installation), and where can I find the twrp recovery for the galaxy s3. All help will be thanked! I just really want to help him out and it will give me more knowledge on how to do this with the s3. Thanks!! PS: to sum it up I just would like to know what to do to install custom ROMs and install a custom recovery and be able to flash custom kernels without a problem and the ROMs should come pre rooted so that's not an issue. Thanks again.

Our bootloaders come unlocked so all you have to do is load a custom recovery through Odin(flashes files to phone) watch the video and you should be good to go
And he might wanna consider purchasing Odin Mobile from Play Store to flash things on the go. We'll worth the money.

I didn't even know it was possible to purchase Odin in the app store. Nor did I know it was even an app. Thx.

It's not, chainfire gave it that name since the Odin program is associated with Samsung phones. It doesn't do the exact same things as the program, mainly that you can't flash stuff if you're not rooted

Has anyone tried doing this? I want to know since Rogers 4.3 has a bootloader Img in it. Can I not use att 4.1.2 bootloader to downgrade and just use Rogers i317m to upgrade later? So I can reset knox
Sent from my SGH-I317M using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Knox can't be reset
Why would anyone intentionally want software with Knox? I flashed the 4.3 leak and was really pissed with that trash. I never owned a phone that told me 'No' about so many things.
Im asking if I unlock my bootloader make it a att instead of a i317m and then redo i317m 4.3
