Hi everyone!
I have a unlock BL and I'm looking for a ROM that fits this requirements:
- No bloatware at all
- Not special apps
- Rooted
- With only one gallery app
- Battery percentage at status bar
- Wifi, data,... icons at status bar (only one tab if possible)
I just flash Arconium ICS and i don't like.
I don't care if is GB, ICS or JB. Only need a good one, simplest.
Try xperia ultimate hd kernel ,thats an awesome rom

If you want smoothness and are okay with a stock Android experience, you can go for Cyanogenmod 10 or any CM10-based ROM. There are quite a few around here. If it's an appealing UI you want, however, and additional features, such as Bravia, XLOUD, HDMI, etc., you can opt for one of the many ICS-based ROMs. XPERIA Ultimate HD, Viper XPERIA, Iced Bean, Smart XPERIA, all are good choices, as are many others. Frankly, there's no "one ROM is greater than another." What might appeal to one, might not appeal to another. It takes barely, what, 10 or 15 minutes to install a ROM. I suggest you play around with a few and see which tickles your fancy.
CM10 looks like your only choice. Highly recommended with Fusion kernel.
I recommend racing bean, for my it is on of the best in what concerns to smoothness, performance and looks (since it is cm10 based) happy flashing

Of course, user experience is the most important thing for a smooth freak like me. And i actually tried almost every rom in arc's forum before i stick to racing bean. But out of curiosity which is the best rom for you and why?
Slim Bean 3.2.0
Imo it's superior to Super Jelly Bean at the moment, but SJB has a big update coming up next week.
I've tried Ultimate HD but no ICS based rom will ever be as smooth as JB. The only reason to got with ICS would be the camera support, but I'm using CameraMX in JB and everything is just perfect. :victory:
Just try the ROMs out yourself, no point asking around as everyone will have different opinions.

There are no 'opinions' wether a rom runs smoothly or not. Either it does or it doesn't. And some do better than others.
All I say is that JB clearly has smoother animations due to the real project butter.

im newbie in here..thats why im asking you guys..
Welcome to the forums as well!
Right now I'm trying out AOKP (Build 5) after coming off of CM 10 (M2). Both AOKP and CM10 are pretty rock solid to me - I've never had any issues with either of them. CM10 have higher benchmark scores than AOKP did, but AOKP (to me) has a much better battery life and allows for far more customization (colors, lock screen, menu, toggles, etc). But even though AOKP doesn't score as high, I don't see any "real" performance hit... if any. I've never really trusted benchmarks on how well my phone will perform... I just like having high numbers to show off ;D
Overall, AOKP is doing wonders for me! Running that along side Air Kernel (with my beloved SmartAssV2 governor).
Here's my advice to you:
- Download a ROM you think you'll like; CM10 for example.
- Go into your custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) and flash it.
- Get it setup the way you want to (ie: Add your apps, settings, kernel, etc)
- Make a Nandroid backup (include boot.img to keep your kernel)
- Wipe everything afterwards and flash another ROM! (like AOKP, Codename, etc)
Just keep doing that until you think you know what ROM you wanna use. Then you can just restore that backup you made and you good to go! ^_^

-Codename android is close to stock with some of the goodies from AOKP and CM10
-AOKP
-Paranoid android if you like messing around with the DPI
Those were my top 3 roms. Feel free to browse and choose a rom in the dev section.
Good luck!
I like MIUI. I recommend downloading different ROMs and trying them out and seeing which one you like. Some are similar to stock but enhanced functionality others are like HTC Sense or TouchWiz with a very different look and feel.
Try a few out.
I personally like the stock experience. Being with Verizon (Toro), we don't get the latest updates 'til probably around 6 months after. In this case, I use BuglessBeast to get the latest with stock experience. Hope that helps!
Read through some ROM posts before flashing. Bugs can pop up in the best of them. I personally like Codename. Just depends on how much customization you want. I agree with the other posts about trying more than one. After all that's half the fun.
My personal favorite is Bamf + diet kernel. There is no bugs what so ever and it is very stock with the customization features that you want.
Xenon HD +Trinity kernel ftw.

I'm running XenonHD form Oct24th. I have tried others and found this ROM working well for me. I did run the XenonHD from 9/29 prior to that. Apparently when I installed a version after 9/29, that one was not behaving well. So I went back to 9/29 until today.
Just finished the install a couple hours ago.
I find the battery life of the XenonHD rom to be very good (for what I do with the phone).
Surely there are many other great ROM's out there and the best ay to find YOUR Rom is to try a few.
Good luck and have fun with your GNex.

The best one if the one you like the best. Even if that means stock.
Okay this is what I think.
Omega - Super good for themeing. Kinda heavy for a normal user
ARHD - Very close to stock. One of the best roms for me. Never had any issue with this.
monxdified - Honestly, this is one hell of a rom. Very good and slim. Didn't expect it to work well but heck, it does! No problem and highly recommended.
HyperNote - if you like a superb slim rom, this is the one for you. No bloatware. All all to you.
Crash - Too early to say. Still in testing phrase for me.
If you ask me, here's my rating.
ARHD = monxDIFIED > Omega > HyperNote > Crash
But, don't take my word completely! Try it out or something

On the latest builds some S-Pen functionality has been included (don't know how much though). I think they are including the wacom digitizer drivers on the kernel/rom. The stylus is functional, you loose functionality related to TW. And there's some apps that you can use instead of Samsungs, like Papyrus instead of S-Note (which is 10 times smaller btw). We'll see how it evolves, maybe in a couple of months there will be new ways of using the stylus implemented on those roms that you can't use with Samsung stock roms.

first of all, I think this is an excellent idea to gauge other users opinion. I have been using ARHD, and I think it is excellent. I would like to use a very slim ROM which focuses on best phone reception, leaving plenty of memory to watch movies/play games/or emails. Talking of movies, it would be nice to use ext4 format for sd card and permanently setting internal/external sd card. Anyone, advise.
Ive heard that battery life on stock rom is much more better than on all custom roms...

Reading all the good reviews, I dont see a thing that I will gain installing any custom Rom and the best of best is still STOCK.
Hats off to Samsung.. no doubt hiring Steve (Cyanogen) is paying off well.
Right now I am rooted, have CWM touch recovery installed and only installed Multi App mod, waiting for a really temting rom to arrive.
There are great great hard works from developers and will have to wait some more days to enjoy best of custom roms which are evolving..till them Stock rom is perfect!!!

If u want stock look ARHD is the best version 4.2,in aroma gives you the option to flash stock or Perseus ver. 26.1, go with Perseus better performance and battery life.
Some phones faced bugs and some didn't - weird. But, this also happens when you use any ROM and you're 100% sure you flashed correctly. I had no problems with ARHD 5. With monxDIFIED (my current test for the last 5 days) I used it for over 2 days without recharging and I still had about 26% battery. GPS, WI-FI etc. were on all the time. Using No-Frills CPU control to hit both top and bottom end (although top end only allows 1.6GHz, whereas with ARHD5, it allowed 1.8GHz(?))
There's a lot to be said about flashing and wiping et al.
I don really like CM stuff for my NoteII.
Hi guys and a wanna no what you think is The best rom

I am currently using the test build of CM7 with ics layouts and is enough for me till MMB Team releases their next AOSP ICS build
cyantux rom is awesome just try it
AOKP milestone 6 CM9 based is what i used daily now. only a few bugs, never had a random reboot till now.
I am currently developing a stock based ROM (pretty much just tweaking the stock ROM but also changing some interface elements). If you're talking 'nicest' as in best interface, mine won't do (I am doing a Gingerbread X Jellybean X Other style interface). But it is suprisingly fast. If you're interested about my upcoming ROM, you can inbox me a message and I can let you in on some details!
I just tried 1 rom previously (LightOrange), but now I have been testing the official cyanmobile 2.3.8 (build 4) and I am loving it. Satellite fixing is ultra fast, you can customize almost everything, it comes with many choices of unlock screens and call answering interfaces. Smart calling is awesome (if you're messaging someone, or have one of your contacts on screen, just put the phone to your ear and it calls automatically). It comes with an integrated option to force move to SD card. I flashed int2ext4+ script and now I have a "huge" internal memory (1Gb ext4 partition + internal). Together with Adrenaline Engine and chainfire 3D (both not included), this is the best performance I had so far.
There are also some other good ROMs. I heard democracy NT is great. S'periance, Adrenaline ROM, M'Rage. It's a matter of personal choice in the end. Never tried CM9 or CM10, but I think most roms are more unstable or lacking functions and the performance gain, if any, is not that big (correct me if I'm wrong, though ).
I tink best (only bad thing battery goes fast down) rom is cm 10.1 by Old Droid + TouchWiz 4.5 theme from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062676
Gapps from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167627
And theme from google play
Some pics:
Get Equipped With MEGAMAN
the kitheirp
For me the best roms are:
Stock= M'rage Rom what can I say? This rom has everything ! I dont like the orange but still is the best Stock rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136550
CM7= JellyBread unfortunately its descontinued now, but you can mix the version 2.5 with 3 and have a GREAT rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991020
MIUI= MIUI Gingerbread of Franklin its the only miui that is bugless, if you search the rights themes your phone gonna look beautiful, is not multilanguage, but if you are smart enough (in galaxy ace forum) theres a one that it is, and you can solve the problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863260&highlight=miui
i would also say it's MIUI by Franklin, it has cool UI, also good for gaming unlike the cm10 roms, it has large consumption of RAM so it's not suitable for gaming.
i think aosp is the most stable...that's why i chose aosp ics by MMB
AOKP jb-mr1 by erikcas super smoth and fast no big problems

So I am new to the XDA forum, I am not new to Android. Now however I am in a bit of a spot. Looking for that one ROM which actually works properly without bugs or stability issues. This has proven to be a rather big challenge.
Almost every single ROM I have looked up, either on this forum or other forums, has issues. Most of them are seen as minor, but for my part, the lack of WiFi or USB tethering is not acceptable. Nor are those small bugs which makes apps crash from time to time.
So I am looking for a ROM with offers me the pure Android experience, so no Sense UI, with a few custom tweaks like battery indicator removal and the like. The ROM should be OTA compatible and based on Android 4.2.2.
I have looked all the big ROM's and many of the smaller ones. And like I write earlier, they all seem to have issues that makes renders them a defect product in my eyes. It is my no means easy to create a custom ROM, and all the hard work that developers put in to it, that I will praise :good:
But since I am looking for a complete product that take run my HOX until a new Android phone worth having comes out, stability issues, app craches, sluggishness and so on, are not acceptable.
It is a tall order I realise, but I figures that there is nothing lost by posting this thread. So are there anyone out there who knows an custom ROM?
AOKP and CM both have WiFi tethering and USB tethering working fine. I've been using CM since its alpha days, never had something not working that bothered me (meaning that i don't use MHL or FM radio, both of which don't work iirc. Any AOSP-based rom won't have them working.)

I have downloaded the CM 10.1 M3 release, thought about installing it, it also comes with OTA updates, for some people at least, by the time the stable release version comes out, it should work for all users.
But I could not find any information regarding the possibilities of tweaking the notification bar. Do you have the option of modifying or removing the battery indicator?

I have a beautiful battery widget, which looks much much better then any other, still hoping that the developer will add moving it to the right side for root users. So I want the default one hidden. So another question would be, if you hide it, does it leave an empty space, or do the other right-side indicators re-align to fill that empty space, so to avoid blank space?

I have already looked at Team Venom Viper X ROM. But it comes with Sense UI, and I have no use for it, not anymore. Since Android 4.0 and Holo UI, there is no need for a UI overlay, and if one really wants that, there are plenty of Launchers in Play Store.
And there are also issues with WiFi tethering.

Honestly, you can't go past Slim Bean when it comes to stability and features. It has pretty much as many features as AOKP, but it also has features from CM and some of its own unique features too. If you use Apex launcher with Slim, it's easily one of the fastest and smoothest ROMs around.
I've been using Slim Bean for a week now and i hardly EVER keep a ROM for more than 3 days because i always find small issues. With Slim Bean, performance is great, battery life is phenomenal (i got 60 hours up time with close to 4 hours of screen on time, i can attach screenies if you want), there are no outstanding bugs and it just works like it should.
With CM10.1, i always run into small issues here and there and battery life is not so great. When it comes to Ice Cold Jelly, battery life wasn't so good for me and performance was all over the place and it was rather unstable when i tried it a few versions ago.
So, Slim Bean is the absolute winner for me when it comes to ROMs without Sense. I highly, HIGHLY recommend that you try it out. Krarvind only produces very high quality ROMs.

From what I can tell, Slim Bean is running some sort of custom launcher, is that correct? Because like I wrote, I have no interest in that nor any other launcher, I just want want the stock Android Holo UI and a few additional features.

Sounds like CM is the way to go. SlimBean is tempting, but it uses a form of launcher other the stock one, and that holds no interest for me.

Thank for answering, i would like to upgrade to jb because i would like to have the latest features and to use apps that arent compatible with gb, since i dont use phone for heavy gaming but just emulators i would like to know about experience of users who are on jb, im not asking for the best rom available like other people do, but i just asked about wich rom is more suitable for my use since i only need system smoothness, no force closes and no problems with buttons in emulators
Also i dont really like the memory management of gb on stock and customs, i have occasional force closes and with ram tweaks the situation is worse

For me I searched for a uptodate ROM that have good performance and a good look so there might be better performing ROMs but whitout a nice look (if you want goo performance you need to give up from the look, for me I searched for a balanced roms good look good performance).
If you really want all the new stuff I suggest you to go with Jelly ROMs.
I currently have Miui v5 3.8.16 with dolby which is a very nice ROM Google now works perfectly many features great look and feel, but it's not the best with games (it's acceptable, it's worth for 1 try).
There are some great performing ROMs with different look like there is the: Xperia Z Jelly Bean withe a nice Xperia Z look.
If you prefer the stock android look then CM10.0 FreeXperia Project it's updated every weak or so, very good performance lot of customization ( there is this Project Jellyzeu which is stopped, same stock jelly bean as cm 10.0 but whit out the cm features, this is pure stock very good performance.),
If you would try ICS ROMs I suggest you ICS Original nice Sony ICS look and good performance too.
You should try Cm10 free xperia project. Actually this is the best one for me. I have tested alot of JB roms and this is my guard for now. Stable and smooth UI (you can try use Pure audio and PurePerformances pack's,and the ROM is flying away! - search at Android Software and hacking general development) at newset build FXP237 touchpads are not working, but at 235 works.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with various jb and ics roms,i will try them, also i would like to know, does jelly bean and project butter makes the difference on overall speed and smoothness than ics on our device? If you want, everyone who upgraded or who revert to gingerbread can post his experience and impressions and tell me if its happy or no after upgrading to ics or jb/reverting to gb

i tried many ics and jb roms here and after a while everytime i reverted back to stock based roms and now finally again to real stock with my own mods.
in games performance in jb and ics was the same for me. daily usage is smoother in jb but ics has the touchpads so for me in focus on gaming CM9 was the right one.
i reverted back go GB in the end because generally it was slower everywhere. GB is snappy, you tip the finger, the action happens. i have so much stuff installed and the heaviest games still run as on the first day.
even emulators. i use retroarch mostly and pcsx runs just perfectly under GB - one of the most problematic games colin mcrae rally 2.0 runs beautifully. under ics / jb the gpu drivers are not that good and refresh rates aren't reported right - results in some kind of stuttering. can be fixed but not perfectly.
or compare crazy taxi or most wanted (with opponents and heavy stages -> hint to reviewers here who just show a single lap without anything on the street) - they lag like hell under ics or jb - perfectly fluid on GB - this is the deal breaker for me. definitely.
Interesting, i didnt know about stuttering, i tought that the updated adreno drivers will let gpu gain more 3d performance, anyway with jb there are problems with touchpad or even with gamepad? Jb kernel supports unlocked data partition? Personally i ve tried some ics roms but i finded a bit heavy and laggy in general use then gb so i returned on gb, have to try if project butter makes really the difference, jb should be an improvement over ics

I bought an Xperia T that runs on jelly bean.... its horrific I removed over 100 preinstalled apks and it still idles at 350mb RAM usage
My desktop pc dosnt even use that much. the battery only lasted 5 hours max. and there's no solution for the locked bootloader
I chucked that thing in one of my draws and bought a second hand Play
With my Xperia mini pro I was a big fan of cm7
But with the play I couldn't get the touch pads to work (need for modern combat 4 if anyone knows how to fix that id love to know)
So I tried gin2jellybean ROM with lupus kernel (think its gingerbread that looks like jellybean)
battery's awesome (24 hours still on 95%) touch pads work,
There are some things id like to change and I miss allot from cm7 but overall very happy with it :good:
Rom decision
The best rom really depends to your taste.
I suggest that you try to read the roms on our android development and choose what do you need and like.
Also it is better on gb but for ICS and JB you will need too focus on gaming or looks.
At the moment I am using Nexplay by Cyberscopes and currently observing it.
Overall the best rom will really depends on you.
Use xplay Honami rom by smokerman... Fastest ics rom I've ever used...

Try Gin2jellybean then. I know its on GB but its very fast, it has so much free RAM and it has JB look and feel. Thanks to being on GB it has no compatibility issues, all buttons work and playing on this Rom is awesome experience
Sorry if my reply offended you (I know you wanted Rom on JB) but this is very interesting option.
