[Q] Losing Signal - LG Optimus G (International)

Does your Optimus G lose signal every so often? I have a TPU case on my Optimus G and once in a blue moon, it'll lose signal for a couple seconds even though I'm in a perfect signal zone. Anyone know how to fix?

My best bet on that would be a blank time between switching towers. Should not happen however it's programmation. It could be solved at kernel level or RIL level, not sure which one of the two.

Theoretically it shouldn't lose signal if it switches tower though... Otherwise when I stream Tune In and make calls (BT) while driving, my calls would get dropped like crazy then wouldn't it?
It's been happening on stock, custom stock Rogers ICS, and SnowJB, so I think it's more of a phone issue. Or maybe SIM?

Doesnt mean it happen all the time.

That's what my old phone did. LTE on it died. But it would lose signal for a good 2 secs and come back on. But that only happened after the LTE part died.

According to battery use, cell standby is at a whopping 16%. 21% of the time spent without signal. Prior to that was only 1% at most. I live in an area with good signal, and even though I'm always in the basement which has crap reception, I put it in an area where it'll have the best reception down here. Something isn't right. I'll probably have to flash the modem... Can someone link me to Rogers modem? Or any other modem that works on E971?

I flashed the modem again through CWM. Still getting disconnect and losing signal issues.. could it be that I am using a ROM for E970? But I had problems with custom stock Rogers ICS as well.

No your modem wouldn't have been touched. Try turning off LTE to see if it makes a difference.

No luck.. I wonder if I have to KDZ... Plus I don't have LTE to begin with as it seems to just stay on 4G. It was fine on stock firmware though so I don't what's wrong.

Which rom are you running at the moment? All E975 roms show LTE as 4g.
Only North American roms show LTE as LTE and HSPA as 4g.

I have LTE turned off anyways, just as you said. Still got the problem though.

I suppose you can try KDZing back to stock just to see.

Just to revive an old thread.. It still does it. Even with KDZ to stock, other custom ROMs, reflashing modem, etc.

which band using your gsm service provider? gsm 900 1800?

sorry to bump up an old thread but i came across this thread in search
I am having the same problem with Rogers, has anyone found a fix? or know what causes lost signal?

anyone? I'm considering selling this phone even though it's not broken just the signal is kind of weak for me to be comfortable with using it

Im thinking the sim card slot has been damaged and loses connection with the pins momentarily
Has anyone changed the sim card reader?

[Q] Quick Memo

After 12 days with my Optimus G, I took it back to Sprint and cancelled my service. It was shame. I LOVED the phone. Unfortunately, Sprint's service is just terrible where I live. They over-nighted an airrave to me so I could have reliable voice service at home, but often when I was out and about in my neighborhood, the service was spotty. I could rarely get a 4G signal. When I did, it was a little slower than the HSPA+ signal on my AT&T phone. When I had their 3G, it was 1/10th the speed. I stayed with AT&T and upgraded to the HTC One X Plus. LTE speeds are 2-3 times the HSPA+ speeds I was getting. I'm very happy with the service and because I'm a long time customer AT&T gave me the HOX+ for $150 and free activation when the phone is $199 on their website. The HOX+ was the only phone AT&T has with specs that are close to the Optimus G, but the Optimus G is faster, has a better screen, and has a better UI than Sense. The only real improvement on the HOX+ is the 64gb of storage. One of the things that I really miss from the Optimus is the Quick Memo app. It doesn't appear to be in standalone development anymore. You can't buy it on play. I've found some older versions that don't have the screen shot integration. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me the apk for it. I've tried three times to download a zip file of system apps from the AT&T Optimus G, but the download starts very slow and then gives me a network timeout after a few minutes.

I was thinking this too... I was trying to decide between this and the One X+.
Did you just not know about when you got the X+?
But I had a similar experience with an Evo Shift.
My family all has AT&T and then my mom got a work phone on Sprint.
She had pretty weak cell reception at home and couldn't get a data connection on Sprint, while AT&T had pretty good coverage.

I get the "app not installed" error when I try to install quick memo. Damn.
I was iffy on the Sprint Optimus G because of its 32 GB of storage limit. I was coming from a 64 GB Iphone. There's no way I could live with less than 64 gb of storage without reliable, unlimited data. Sprint's unlimited data is why I was willing to downgrade on storage. The HOX+ is a good phone. I just liked the Optimus G a little better. If AT&T would give me unlimited 4G data, I'd have probably gone with the Optimus G here, too.

Just a suggestion if you are rooted, try copying the apk to the system/app directory (or data/app I guess), set permissions to the same as everything else.
Reboot.
It probably won't work, but you could try it.

It didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. I may look into installing the LG UI (or at least the launcher) at some point. I've read a bit about others doing that and some widgets or apps needing it to run.

[Q] Switched to T-Mobile with constant 4g to E switching. Can I flash a new Modem?

I eventually unlocked my AT&T SGS3 and switched to T-Mobile with a friend. I noticed often times i'll be in the same spot, and my phone with go from 4g to E in a matter of seconds, then keeps switching back and forth. My friend who switched with me has the Galaxy Note 2 from AT&T and we'll be in the same car and his phone will be on 4g, while i'll be stuck on Edge with no internet. I'm wondering if I flashed my modem to something else, if I were to get better reception. Or perhaps a newer ROM with better T-Mobile radios? I'm running the newest Cyanogen with the I747UCDLK3 Modem. I would appreciate any help! Thanks.

You can try different modems for your carrier (start with latest). There's a modem sticky thread.
One thing though, T-mobile is known to have bad 4G coverage and they're currently upgrading their towers so if your phone connects to a tower that doesn't have 4G yet, you connection will drop.

I do change my modem whenever there's a update to try it. Usually with better results than the last one.
I'm with Rogers though, so can't try it for T-Mobile. It's something to test as I can't know which one will work best in your area and on your device.

[Q] Signal issues i747 on T-mobile. Any help or suggestions appreciated!

I have an unlocked AT&T i747 on T-mobile's $30 100 min unlimited text, and 5GB 4G data plan.
It is running a fitsnugly nightly build of CM 10.1 for d2att
Was previously running Leankernel and now i'm running Ktoonsez's kernel
I unlocked using this method.
The Issue: My signal switches between H+, 3G, E, and rarely G. All while being in the same spot. It spends 90% of the time on E.
This happens in areas of great reception, indoors and out.
Rarely will H+ happen and 3G is very sporadic too.
I live in the heart of a major city (Boston) where T-mobile is prepping LTE so I can get their 3G/4G on the refarmed 1900MHz and without AWS.
My IMEI is listed in the status section.
What I've tried:
Before doing any modding of my phone, I previously backed up my EFS/IMEI with Andromizer (XDA link). Restoring it hasn't changed anything.
Changing network modes (LTE/WCDMA, LTE/GSM/WCDMA, GSM/WDCMA preferred)
Enabling/disenabling data roaming
Changing APN settings (The choices were T-Mobile US and T-Mobile US LTE)
So would flashing Tmobile radios help? Tmobile/d2tmo ROMs?
TL;DR: MY ATT I747 ON TMOBILE WONT KEEP THE H+ OR 3G SIGNAL AND IT SUCKS AND MAKES ME WANT TO CRY. PLZ HELP PLZ PLZ PLZ
Seriously though, any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone! If you need anymore info Just let me know.
That "free" unlock method always made me suspicious and I've seen other complaints like this...

This is pretty frustrating. I changed my modems to an older ATT one, and now I only get 3G sporadically and 90% of the time its on G. So odd...
Also I'm pretty sure I'm specifically not supposed to flash a T-mobile modem....

T-Mobile LG Optimus G Pro Owners Reception Q

I was hoping to ask the community if any combination of rom, baseband, modem, kernel etc could somehow improve the inconsistent/weak call quality and reception issues that carrier unlocked owners of the G Pro may be experiencing.
On T-mobile, I realize that i'm mostly on refarmed LTE frequencies, but for the most part the phone just drops reception on/off on a regular basis. Signal strength is consistently over -107dbm. No option to manually choose 2g, 3g vs 4g networks.
Any help and insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

would just switching to a different rom without flashing baseband or modem, etc do the trick? I was hoping to not try the shotgun approach of a hundred different attempts to see what would be the best fit. There's currently not much on the forums right now to say which/if anything at all would work best for non att users.

Calling all non-ATT E980 users - I have a question

Assuming you apply to the criteria listed in the title, I'm wondering what modem do you use? I'm on T-Mobile using CM12.1 and I use the M915A (stock kitkat) modem because the suggested B915A (madmack) modem gives me issues. It seems like my service drops quite often with that modem, which makes me miss calls and send/receive texts late. I also tried C915A (stock jellybean) modem and experienced the same issue. However, I don't experience this with the M915A modem, but likewise I can't get into deep sleep since I'm not using B915A I don't believe this is linked to my area, as it seems to follow me where ever I go (unless it's my entire state lol)
Is anyone else experiencing this? Or am I just plagued
I am on SlimLP and I use stock jb. Sometimes I lose signal, but it is much less than on the previous version. However, I don't think it is critical as few people mention they cannot reach me.

Hmm that's interesting, and you're on e980 on T-Mobile?
@Emmanuel U e989 in Brazil. TIM the Italian carrier.
@Emmanuel U I have received complaints my cell signal is always off. I will try 4.22 e985 modem and f240 lollipop modem. Let's what happens. I'll let you know.
Might be your location. I first started on T-Mobile when I got e980. Stock kk I was always losing signal in some areas, but perfect signal in a different area. And yep its the entire state. Used to do a lot of driving for a company so I was everywhere in the state. I then rooted and unlocked bootloader. Loaded up bliss I think with madmack, and had same issue, one area great while other area horrible.
You could try calling them and get them to up the signal, helps a bit.
I'm on cricket right now and I believe it uses att and aio so signal is great, unless you head north in my state. Can barely get signal the more north I go
