Galaxy Nexus GPS daemon - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

What is Galaxy Nexus GPS daemon? What is location from system files?

GPS daemon (gpsd) is a background program that reads the GPS receiver's data (position, speed, ...) and enables client programs to access this data (like navigation apps).

No, I am looking for GPS daemon

I am not sure if there is a binary file to be honest.
What are you trying to achieve? Is the GPS daemon draining your battery? If yes, it is not the daemon itself, but an application that accesses GPS.

GPS Problems??

Using the 4.0.4 prerooted stock ROM. GPS takes 1 - 2 minutes to find my location. I remember the GPS locking faster when I first got my phone.
Any ideas to speed up GPS locking?
thanks

Thanks, this worked. Followed a fix a user posted in your link. GPS now locks within seconds now even after toggling gps on/off and rebooting.

GPS icon?

Should the gps icon be visible when gps is in use like during Facebook check-in?
How can I confirm my gps chip is working?
Thanks

If you've enabled the GPS in settings then yes.

Install GPS Status and it will show you all the various details.
As long as the GPS icon blinks for a bit when using apps like Facebook check in, Foursquare etc etc then it should be working. I also use GPS Status once in awhile if apps aren't getting the right GPS positions, and I reset all A-GPS data and restart the offending app

[Q] GPS fix for Epic 4G (NOT touch)

Is there a thread for Navigation fix for Epic 4g? I have:
SPH-D700
BASEBAND S : D 700.0.55.FC09
KERNEL 2.6.35.7
BUILD GINGERBREAD.FC09
HARDWARE D700.0.5
The Navigation app (google) will work for a few minutes but then say "GPS Signal Lost".
TeleNav has no problem finding and sticking to GPS signal, but I don't like that app at all (open other app? have to relaunch TeleNav!).
I know there was a fix several months ago but I've reset my phone for unrelated reasons and now the GPS problem is back. I can't find the threads or videos about how to fix it. I remember the fix file was something like 'gps_fix.zip' or 'gpsfix.zip'
Please help. Thanks!

Yes, it is called gps_fix.zip. It's here somewhere, a quick search will find it for you.
Delete maps and reinstall. If telenav works then this is your solution.

Is there no need for the GPS fix with this method?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
It depends on the problem. The OP said TeleNAV worked fine. That means GPS is ok but for some reason google maps isnt able to keep access to the location function of the phone. The GPS fix flashable file is actually GPS drivers from another phone (facinate, I think) but since it isnt actually a problem with the GPS, reinstalling google apps could solve the problem.

THe GPS_fix file only corrects the problem with only connecting to 4 satellites (with it, you can connect to the max number visible). Sometimes people were having a problem with google nav because it went to 3 satellites and it would lock up. The GPS fix doesn't necessarily fix problems with GNav. So if you want to get more than 4, you would still need this.

Thanks! I ended up deleting Google Maps and reinstalling it along with flashing this GPS fix and solved 95% of my navigation problems. My phone did, however, lock up twice, once when someone called and the other at random but overall, it worked and got me from point a to b!

Some of your lockups may be related to low memory. For instance Facebook, if you use it, will always stay running, but uses about 11MB of RAM. But when you open it, Facebook uses anwhere from 30-50 MB until you force close it. You may want to clear memory when using navigation. You can use the Taskmanager if you don't have a Taskkiller or Memory Manager app.

How to determine which app is using GPS in the background?

Hello,
I have noticed the GPS symbol pop-up sometimes even when I am not actively using any app/function that need location access.
I was wondering if there is a way to determine which app last used the GPS?
I can then email the developer to modify his app to prevent the GPS / location abuse.
Thanks.
Look through all the apps that have GPS permission.
Then try to narrow it down by freezing the apps one at a time.

What is the use of the location feature without Internet connection?

So I've been thinking about this for some time. What is the use of using the location without mobile data/wi-fi?

LOL, maybe I'm not understanding, but I have to use it for my golf GPS app and my exercising tracking. Neither of those needs wifi or data until I get ready to upload my results.
Offline maps can use GPS too, as can offline satnav apps
