Hey guys, just got a gnex, and I'm liking it so far. I will root later tonight and I want to start with cm10. Problem is, the op probably isn't very up to date and there are 420 pages of discussion (on tapatalk). Can someone give me a quick run down of what to flash to get me started with cm10 on the gnex? I know I need the ROM and gapps, and maybe another kernel. I can handle those myself. Any other add ons that y'all recommend? Thank you in advance!

Honestly, for now I'd just install one of the available 4.2 ROMs instead. I switched from CM10 to Bigxie's 4.2 ROM and absolutely love it. It's definitely a bit snappier and more solid than CM10 was for me.
The only thing I miss is the DSP manager but really that's the only thing that is worth mentioning at this point. Even the notification toggles are a moot point now since the 2 finger swipe gets you to your quick toggles in 4.2 now anyway.
Thanks, I'll take a look at that ROM. Aldo, in currently stock, but I keep getting an error when trying to download apps. I've cleared market, play services, and frameworks, as well as removing and re adding my Google account. I have even completely wiped data and started over. All these fix the problem at first, but it soon starts happening again. Any way to permanently fix until I root and update? And do the custom ROMs suffer this issue?

If you want the best of every world download Paranoid Android 2.99 when it gets released tonight. You can switch from a phone, tablet, and phablet interface. Not to mention the normal hacks and goodies.

You beat me to it! I just saw on twitter! lol
I left my good ole Nitro at home when I got the N4 for Christmas. I'm curious for reports on the performance and stability of this rom. CM10 never really got to where it needed to be imho.
any word on the stability of the 10.1 nightly?
OMG! Just checked, thank you very much, Ricardo Queirera.
yyyyeeeaaaaahhhhh !!!!! at last !! testing this out when i get home ! will report back later ! its like XMAX all over again :good::laugh:
I installed it, seems pretty smooth. So far, it's great. I'll be hammering it throughout the day and see what I can break.
i havne't used CM's new method of updating from inside about phone, is it working well or should i stick with booting into CWM and do it the old way. If it is working well, what is the proper procedure for updating through about phone menu on CM 10 -- > 10.1
@KronicSkillz,
At the very least, I believe it'd be prudent to wipe /system and flash the newest 4.2 gapps (if you had the 4.1 gapps installed before). To be honest, though, it might be best just to back up all your app data in TiBu and do a factory reset to make sure there's no weird bugs. I've never tried upgrading from CM10 straight to CM10.1, so I couldn't tell you if you'd experience any issues. You should also have the most recent version of CWM installed because there was a point in time where it didn't play well with 4.2 (at least on the Nexus). I'm not sure if the TWRP that was kanged for the Nitro ever got up to 4.2 support or not.
Once you've gotten on CM10.1, though, the nightly updates through cmupdater are nice, but Cyandelta (available on Play Store) is better imho because it only downloads about a 10mb delta and merges it with the previous nightly's install zip instead of downloading the whole 140mb zip every day.
Is it just me or are we missing the developer options in the settings? Otherwise... This has been running 100% smoothly for the past 2 hours for me!

Edit, sorry, this comment said the same thing the post just above said
gotta say this babys pretty fast considering its the 1st nighlty build, love the drawer and homescreens transition options, very smooth. Its still missing some cool features tho (will come in next builds, well hope so..) like the lockscreen widgets and the photosphere feature for the camera that lets you take 360 degree pictures ... gotta say the keyboard is a little laggy in my case, i used to have the 4.2 keyboard on my 4.1 rom and it would run way smoother, oh well its the 1st build after all!
EDIT: Just found out the lockscreen widget are there, just figured out that you need to swipe to your left or your right on the edge of the screen on the lockscreen, awesome ! (feel a little nub i didnt find that out before)

I don't know about lockscreen widgets, but I know for a fact that photosphere isn't part of AOSP. Therefore, there's no way to really run it on a non-nexus. It's the same with picasa sync in gallery. As far as I know, lockscreen widgets are part of AOSP and there shouldn't be any issues, but I don't have my Nitro to confirm.

well i know for a fact photosphere works on some device even under cm10 with 4.2 camera flashed by changing a parameter in the build.so so the rom thinks you re using a nexus and the option shows up. That being said, im confident we ll eventually be able to use this feature. :fingerscrossed:

i have verified with a cyanogenmod team member that it is recommended to boot into CWM manually to install new 10.x rom installs. They said once 10.1 is installed then it's safe to use the CM updater in phone for nightlies but the first 10.0x > 10.1 should be done manually.
That's an excellent news!! Unlike d*m* s*h*t LG, CM never leave us behind. Hopefully 10.1 will come with a stable kernel, instead of that crappy one as with 10
I noticed no option for Photosphere...will it flash over and work if we flash another 4.2.1 camera/gallery? Anyone try this yet? I've been running from a clean install without hitches for a few hours so I'm kinda hesitant and figured I'd see if anyone tried before I do. If not, I'll probably do a backup and give it a shot and see in the morning.
hmm, on your phones guys, camera works? on my doesn't opening, i'm using another from play store...
Hi, my names Chad and im a flashaholic. It all started when I got my Sprint Galaxy Note II. After rooting and flashing my first rom there was no looking back.
I have found a daily driver and I'm not going to drop any names. Every dev involved with creating these mods and roms for this device are amazing. While performance is important, I like moding, EVERYTHING.
I would like to know what everyone else likes about flashing roms. What is important to you? Maybe some screenshots of mods you've done to your phone?
Here's my keyboard. (=

I actually flash a lot less than I did when I have the Evo 4G. I'm more modded, but I'm mainly just changing files.
I'm running doexidezed stock MC2, Persues Kernel 3.6, with the 4-1 reboot, all mutliwindow mods. Changed the Spen detection sounds to ligh sabler, changed boot anmination to Andy's Pee On Apple, changed boot sound to Lexus ISF start up and engine rev, disable shut off animations, using only one homescreen page (no widgets), use the Trev E Mod WiFi tether beta 3.3 and folder mount.
I'm interested in the cyogenmod when it's out of alpha. I'm waiting for the mutliboot mod to get completed. It's getting closer on the international. BootManager on the Evo4G was the best app for flashaholics. You could have a daily and as many ROMs as your SD card could hold. I usually had three--barebones Sense rom, Cyogenmod (Android 2.3), and Cyogenmod (Android 4). Here and there I would have a forth or fifth to fiddle with.
The other rom I'm interested in trying out, and it's extremely early, is more of port of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I've seen a couple screen shots, pretty sweet if you're into the mutlitwindow/mutlitask thing.
Right now, deoxidized stock meets my needs well. Nothing, other than Google Wallet, appears to be borked. And a few mods, I able to more.
My name is Jamice Welbon and I am a flashaholic I first introduced to flashing through my friend Treo Central.com he get me hooked flashing my Treo 600, 650, 700p and 710wp but soon after that treocentral.com was not cutting it for me so I tried ppc geeks. com and started flashing my touch pro 2.
I tried every windows ROM I could find and even experimented with some android. With the introduction of Windows phone and the stifled future future ROM development I knew I needed something stronger.
I went to Xda developers.com and started using Android on a regular bases. I first purchases the Samsung Epic then I tried the Epic Touch 4g and I am currently using the Galaxy Note 2. I have customized my boot animation (My Little Pony FIM), converted my phone into tablet mode, changed my font, added a hack version of Google Wallet, but I am currently using a non hack version since the Note 2 is now an official supported device. I have a hacked mod to remove the unsupported device message from Google Wallet since my device is rooted.
I am currently using a ROM which is half touch wiz and half stock Android. The dialer and contacts are stock Android. I even put a mod on my phone where I can customize the DPI for every app on my phone. I can even open up as many apps as I want and have them floating on my phone's desktop. I am fening for the Galaxy Note 3.
I am currently thinking about modding my shut down screen.
I need help and that is why I am on this forum. It has affected my job and my relationships in a negative way.

Speaking of which........
I have only had one rom on this phone and i love the phone! I am currently running maks allstar rom and i am ready to try another. I was looking around and saw that there are some floating window mods now! WOOHOOOO SOLD!
I looked around and found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2139684
So I assume im on MA7 with my current rom whatever that is and I need to get MC2 roms for the floating windows?
The choice between 5 roms what ever shall i do? Does anyone have any suggestions? I like bling and great sound mods and all the bells and whistles including wifi tether and lightsaber spen effects!
It seems like there are alot of different versions of this phone. I assume im in the right spot with a sprint note 2? The mackrom allstars has been working great.
Thank you much!
Flashing adventure
So i ventured off to my flashing adventure. I first tried jelly 16.0 which was pretty awesome and the flash works in regular browser which is AWESOME but it didnt seem to have floating window. I tried installing the apk switcher thingie and it didnt even show up. I found the thread for the floating multi window installed it and nothing..... I flashed the sprint zip file for it and then the phone wouldnt boot.
I installed wolfpack and i still dont have floating windows...... i am going to install the apk next and will update my progress
Ok so im supposed to have a toggle icon which i dont and waiting for answer in the rom forum. Also the flash doesnt work in the desktop version of the browser something that worked in jellie rom 16.0 =(
Im running MacksRom (Plain Jane MA7) at the moment and have multiwindow desktop mod. It's in xposed settings.

Go into xposed app settings and change the "system settings" "screen dp" from default to 800x1280, select save then reboot.

No. It's a framework work. As mentioned above, you just need install the Xposed framework APK. I've used it on a deoxidezed MA7 stock rom. MC2 is just more performance tweaks and bug fixes.
Ok i understand more but now i lost multiview
i did the installer i activated the plugins in teh installer i set the resolution on android system to 1280x800 i have rebooted and no multiview now. i cant get it back =(

I finally got it worked out
I checked out the OP in jellyroms post where it talks about installing the framework. I factory reset cleared caches dalvik etc and reflashed. Once flashed i did exactly what it said minus the downloading the items because they were alread in the rom. Now i have multiwindow. I didnt mess with the DPI though only set the resolution to 1280x800 and it works. I am scared to use the DPI changer though because although it looks really super cool. I lost the multiview doing it. I even tried setting the multiview to the same dpi. the com-flash whatever file and reboot still no luck... So it does work but im in regular phone resolution which isnt bad i guess because you dont have to mess with all the apps dpis etc? the internet built in was FC'n during my mess of flashing etc.....
Any ideas or suggestions on why i lost the multiview? I would like to change the dpi at some point but i dont want to factory reset (which is what i had to eventually do to get the multiview back anyway.
Thank you for all that put up with my frantic questions.
Glad you got it up and working!

I have the m919. At first I was enamored with the whole tw thing and it was fun, but I think my next phone shall be a nexus or something else with Aosp. My phone runs faster and I like the space saved by flashing the Virgin Rom. The only thing I miss is the wife calling, but good to know I can always flash back or find a dual boot if I REALLY need wife calling, but for what it is, I am lovin the Virgin Google Ed. Rom. Thoughts or ideas are welcome. If you share or disagree, I would like to know what others feel. Please and thank u.

I don't use wifi calling, so I don't know much about it. Is it a T-Mobile or Touchwiz feature? If its a Touchwiz feature, is it available on all versions (ATT, Verizon, etc) of the S4?
I like Touchwiz, but i dont care for the launcher. You can run a Touchwiz ROM with Nova launcher, which is very AOSP-like. That's what my AOSP loving friend did on this S4, before he rooted it. I run Wicked ROM (Touchwiz based) with the Sony Xperia launcher. Prior to this I ran Paranoid Android (AOSP) and it was too plain for me.
If storage is an issue, how about getting a microsd card? I dont store any music or videos on my phone, so storage isn't a problem. I guess this thread goes to show how everyone uses their phone differently, and finding the right ROM to fit your needs is tricky.

It's a T-Mobile feature.
I used to have only Nexus phones and run AOSP Roms. I've now come accustomed to the touchwiz ROM, especially after the way they've been customized by the devs here. Unfortunately my service is awful where I live, so WiFi calling is a must for me. I think touchwiz is just better suited to the GS4 with all its proprietary features.

And obviously you cant have a Virgin and a wife. Kind of tough to be happy with either.

Auto correct is a s. O. B I think.. At any rate I find touch wiz to be gimmicky at best, and if need be I can go back to it but I do find aosp to be more responsive. I do keep music but the thing is you can only move certain files to the SD card. Unless you get a custom rom that allows it. Or am I wrong?

LOL.
Yes that is correct. T-mo hasnt updated their software to allow this yet. Any of the i9505 TW Roms will have to App2SD as well as many other huge improvements (but you'll lose "wifi" calling). Or in just 2-1/2 weeks T-mo will provide an update to TW4.3
Both TW and AOSP have their own pros and cons. I find AOSPish ROMs to be snappier than TW could ever think of being, but I always find myself reverting back to one version of TW or another. Without naming ROMs specifically, I'll say that given the selection of all the ROMs I've tried (which is most every one in the i9505, AT&T, and this forum) I can feasibly say that I run both TW and AOSP fairly equally with no real bias towards either. Some custom TW I don't care for, some AOSP I don't enjoy at all, and some on both sides I consider my fall-backs that I always keep an updated backup of. They each have their own appeal and it just depends on what I feel like running that particular week/day/hour. I just wish I could figure out why I can't seem to run any version of 4.3 without it randomly freezing up during the night :\
That's cool, I keep an infamous v8 backup on my s4, but actively run virgin aosp. Like I am supposed to go to a friends house, maybe I will run the infamous because of wifi calling. But the tw seems to kill my battery faster, so for the mundane aosp seems like a daily rom to run. Imho

My phone (running stock, rooted 4.1.2 at the moment) is getting a little unstable, so I am going to wipe and start from scratch. I'd really like to go back to CyanogenMod-based ROMs, but AFAIK the pen support in these is awful -- S Note is no longer there, and there is nothing in the Play Store remotely as good, and all of the useful annotating tricks are missing.
If this is no longer the case, can someone let me know? I am not in the "scene" and there are so many ROMs posted in so many places that I have no idea where to start. Otherwise I think I will probably grab the rooted 4.3 ROM that dropped a couple days ago and try that on for size.
Thanks gang.

No ROMs based of anything other then tw have the functionally that your looking for in terms of the spen. With that said, you can get some decent apps that make it less painful.
When I run cyan or any other AOSP/AOKP ROMs I install spen launcher along with notebuddy and cm spen add on. That combination will allow a pop up menu when you remove the spen that allows you to have access to your spen apps. As stated papyrus is a good one, gnote found here on xda is another, write and sketchbook, you can backup or extract sketchbook from stock ROMs and it installs fine.
