Is it only me or is stock rom the smoothest ? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just flashed Pa3+ and for some reason I feel like stock is the smoothest but I really need the themes.
Is there a 100% stock rom but with themes ?
P.s. That's a GSM phone.

These two are the smoothest ROMs I've ever seen. Vanir is more stock, and a bit faster imo. Atom is based on Vanir with some added options. I'm sure if you tried either one you won't be disappointed.
Also I recommend flashing AK Kernel. Vanir + AK is the fastest my phone has ever been.

I think PA has a lot of unique features and I really like what they did with the rom but I agree that stock is way more stable and snappy.

Vanir and AK is an AMAZING combination ! way snappier then stock !
Now I will test the battery for a couple of days
THANKS !

+ 1 for vanir

I used to use STOCK for a few days, it really is smooth, but the interesting thing that can make any rom fast as stock is just to optimize it according to your necessities and "trim" it one a week to fix reading speeds of the internal memory. (LagFix from Google Play does the job)

I have actually never tried the stock 4.2.2 ROM, I am always flashing atom, vanir, cm10.1, aokp, xylon, and all that.
vanir is the smoothest for me

Yes, stock rom is the smoothest.
In my opinion Galaxy nexus rom development is boring because all roms look like each other and at the end the stock is the best.

That's one of the reasons why people choose paranoid and their hybrid engine... to get something different! I love their job for bringing real innovations to android.

i use muzzy rom and i think its very smooth. however, i may try vanir to see if it is smoother.

I have used several custom roms and after a while they get so laggy that unlocking the device is a pain.
I am on stock 4.2.2 and uts smooth most of the time.

Unfortunately even stock 4.2.2 has this lag issue.

Eh, for me stock 4.2.2 is laggy as hell.

In my case it's snappy right after reboot but after couple of hours it becomes laggy. You gotta reboot or....change wallpaper to restore smoothness.

Or use 4.1.2. The only thing I miss is the 4.2 keyboard and the fact that cm 10.1 feels more mature and complete.

Is there a stable JB rom?

Have not found one yet still using aokp milestone 6.
stock is the most stable.. you can also try android revolution hd based on stock or xenon..both r excellent roms
BAMF Paradigm v2.0 is very stable, and everything works.

AndroidME is very stable. Been using it as a daily for the last few weeks. Running without any hiccups. It's basically stock with some modifications and theming options. Highly recommend it!
TBH, all roms for the galaxy nexus are stable its not like any other device where some hardware wont work. best advice is to try out some of the Roms and decide which is best and more stable for your own type of usage.
Haven't had a single problem with either EOS or CM10 Euroskank kangs.

Using android revolution HD 6.0.1 works great, seems to have better battery life than stock jelly bean.

Ya its hard to imagine an aosp based rom not being stable on a nexus device, its not like we're trying to run experimental sense/touchwiz roms here.
I've been using Thunderstick and loved it. But I just switched to AndroidME CM10 and it's great. I heard AndroidME was very fast and stable, but I like the CM version better.

I can't see past stock jelly bean after flashing countless ROMs

Please can someone try and change my mind because I'm only disappointed and let down every time I try one .

What exactly are you disappointed about? Try the latest official builds of cm10 or aokp. Not a nightly or a kang.. an official build.
Try Paranoid, it looks pretty wild!
SHHHH!!!! You're not allowed to say that!
I've done the same as you. The only change I've made to stock is run nova launcher to make it a bit more purdy and personalized.
Minco is pretty nice since it's really close to stock but faster, but in the end I'd rather just run stock for peace of mind (not that Minco was unstable).
Stock based roms perform the best in my opinion. Although Bamf Paradigm and Wasabi Miui run well for me, if I run them with trinity 1344 kernel.
IMO It seems like CM and AOKP stay in the nighties phase for way too long, and bugs and stability issues take too long to fix. This has been the case on most phones I have owned. They are great innovative roms though. I find it rare when a Rom with loads and loads of features runs as good as stock based roms do. I love having features, but performance, stability and battery life are above all features for me. I can just find mods myself anyways and add them as I need.
If stock is what works best for you, run stock, there's nothing wrong with that.
Why do you want people to change your mind?

The last ROM flashed was team baked black ROM it was OK but the force issues became very annoying .I was just asking am I doing something wrong when flashing ? I don't seem to get the same user experience from using jelly bean. There is only one feature I've used that isn't stock is fast reply which I think is brilliant and will definitely be in 4.2

Fast reply, I don't even know what that is but anyway, Android comes down to user preference, if you enjoy stock, then rock it dude, I've tried only a handful of roms here but stock gives the most solid performance 9 out of ten times. granted I'm running Slimbean now, but I like to flash every two weeks and this rom is pretty great aside from bootup time XD.

i just hit 260h with no reboots. custom built from src, JRO03R, maguro. rock stable so far. gcc 4.7.0.
just saying, stock can be rock stable, and still be fast and responsive, if you're willing to tweak it and spend time testing it.

I've tweaked till the cows come home but I think Google have totally cracked it to be honest and early reports about 4.2 seem to suggest they've went one more step in terms of speed and look .The quick reply feature is in cm10 when you receive a SMS you get a pop up window at anytime so you can instantly reply ,must be enabled tho .

[Q] More customizable-XENON HD or CYANOGEN 10.1?

Which one of them is more customizable? Currently i am using CM10.1 nightly and it provides customization.I was influenced from XENON too.So which one you all prefer based on customization?
just do a nandroid and flash it, if you dont like it restore your backup... different ppl like different roms so just cuz one person likes it doesnt mean you will also like it
Agreed. But if you want a great stable ROM with great battery life and awesome performance with enough customization try xylon stable with ak purity kernel. Next time you go on a flash fest its well worth the flash.. My favorite yet!!

[Q] Stable Verizon Galaxy Nexus ROM for girlfriend

My girlfriend has been using a few custom roms that I've flashed for her on her nexus, but shes been having multiple SOD's and random restarts and other stability issues on 4.2.1 roms (tried a few). I would like to know the most stable rom/kernel combination that you have used in the past, 4.1.2 is preferable if the stability is better. Just basic rom features is all she needs, but stability and speed is most important, I feel pretty bad for giving her roms with some issues that I haven't experienced on my sgs3.
Thank you all for the help
If you are looking for stability and simplicity go with mmuzzy French vanilla rom. Its smooth and stable. If u want stable with mods go with carbon rom. Its fast smooth and good on battery life.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Thank you, I'm going to try flashing MMuzzy toro tonight and see how that works out
stock
yeah get her on 4.1.2 before she complains that you "broke" her phone lol. anyways i only use 4.1.2 roms right now, and i can tell you that jb sourcery 3.1 and liquid smooth 2.0 RC9 have both been straight shooters with great performance and not a single SOD in either of them
I just flashed MMuzzy's French Vanilla rom and my word is this thing awesome. Almost indistinuishable from stock. I wish I had a friend who had the GSM Gnex so we could compare features.
If you are looking for a few more features without losing stability I strongly recommend Nexus Evolution. The current version is from Jan 4 and a new version is likely to come out today or at least very soon
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for all the responses I will be flashing a few of these tonight

Xenon is definitely my favorite.

Easy, Bugless beast with lean or stock kernels. Check duh sig
Vanir v3.0
Aokp milestone1
Codename android 3.8.0
Aliendroidv1( personal fav) great 4.1.2 with 4.2.1 parts(rom includes gapps)

All above are 4.1.2
Every phones different

I wouldn't recommend bugless. BuglessPete hasn't updated it since Nov, so it is still 4.1.1.
I would recommend stock, rooted, deodexed. If you want features, then MMuzzy has been quite stable for me.
I just flashed Carbon V1 over XenonHD and it's running pretty smoothly. A lot of the 4.2 and mostly all of the 4.1 ROMs are pretty stable overall.

And besides, most of the available Roms are equally stable / very soon to be stable.
Do a good flash, making sure to wait a while right after flashing, and all will be good.

I second this one. Jedi Jelly 6 is very smooth. My only issue with it is that it's based off of a leaked AT&T ROM.
I believe ptmr3 (the dev) is working on a new version that is based on the recent 4.1.2 release specifically for the SGH-T989.
I switched to an AOSP based ROM and I'm never looking back despite wifi calling being a cool feature, but I never used it. Anyway, I've been using 2.2 Slimstars which was pretty great. The updates seemed to be a little unstable like the camera not working. Is the new one, 4.12 pretty much fixed? And are there many changes with 4.2.2? I may try PACman. How's that stability wise? Stability and speed (I just want it to work without waiting you know?) are priorities.
ptmr3's Jedi Mind Trick JB 2.1 is by the the fastest and smoothest and glitch free rom out there
I have tried almost all roms of the ICS and JB flavour
personally I do not like non touchwiz roms
and all CM and AOKP 4.2 roms do not support MHL output or Bluetooth mouse properly
everything seems to work on JMT except for OP known issues
