You're a star!!!! Thanks!! All working now.
AOSP browser is IMO the best browser for android by miles.
Just quick question for you.....I like to change roms about once a week. Can I remove the stock HTC browser apk from my Rom zip and place this apk in there or would I have to flash your zip as I have just done?
yup

Thanks for this, have always been using the Chrome browser, but stock is miles ahead. Works perfectly fine too.
Is there no exit setting on this browser?

Closing the last tab is the same thing as closing the app i think.

ok tried some stuff myself...
seems to work.
to lazy ppl who dont wanna go to recovery to do such a simple thing:
1)just push the apk to system/apps and rename the odex and the apk of the sense browser to odexb and apkb
2)give it 664 premissions(-rw -rw -r) and reboot) have fun
3)oh and dont forget to delete the browser data and cach in all apps.or it will just force close.
works great so far.(few mins of testing(flash works fine)
thank you for the apk!
finally a normal tabbing experience(not the horrible 3d thingy with the x to exit...) now i just hope no ota problems.(i think what i did is revertable...)

Usually the easiest way is to just extract a rom, and find the file you need. Here you go ...
Thanks is there a post on how to extract apk

Think I might have confused you ... no need to extract the apk, just insert it into the rom you're using. You can do that with root explorer, or even use ES File Explorer's "root option". You could also use adb to push it.
What I was referring to was, d/ling a rom and extracting it, for the files included. For that, I use 7-zip ...

From your original question, I thought you wanted the browser that comes stock with the Evo, so it's the HTC browser. Here's the aosp browser, which I prefer, by the way ...
I was trying to install this in my Evo. Moved the stock HTC browser from system>apps to my SD incase I wanted it back. Then moved the AOSP into system>apps and tried installing...will not let me install, and now I cant get either browser working. What do I need to do?
Thanks
I'm in the same predicament. I flashed the AOSP Browser.apk via a .zip that somebody created since, for seom reason, I couldn't just push it to /system/app. Then today I updated to the latest fresh (public release of that tomorrow) and my browser stopped working. I pushed the htc Browser.apk and it wont work.
Can't find that zip, also not a fan of the AOSP Browser.apk so I'm stuck.

Try this. Move the AOSP out of system>apps onto your SD or delete it if you dont want it anymore. Then move the HTC back into system>apps. Then reboot the phone. Then go back into system>apps and tap the HTC browser to install. Mine just all the sudden allowed me to install it, Im assuming it was because of a reboot after moving the files around.
hey man, it doesn't work.
I mean when I copy the app to my phone (HTC Desire) which is on modded ROM (which doesn't have Sense UI).
doesn't the app work because of the lack of Sense UI ?
I mean I've tried everything.
even if the app installs, then it just force-closes.
and I've tried extracting Browser app from oryginal Desire rom from Vodafone, I did extract it, but when I "installed it" on a phone through the recovery mode, the phone just didn't see the app.
even though the recovery mode said the app was installed.

Here's the stock browser from the ROM I use. Give it a go.
For the most post I like and am fine with the stock browser. However, while I was running cm7, I came to like some of the differences between the stock cm browser and the stock sense browser. I tried swapping the apks between the two rooms (cm7 and incubus' rooted GB but the browser just fc'd. Is there a way to swap stock browsers between roms?
I'm currently running rooted stock gb and am happy with it except for that.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Did you install it then fun fix permissions? That may help.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running some random CM7 nightly.
How did you try to install the AOSP browser on your sense rom? I'd try putting it in system/app then setting the permissions to match the other apks. Should be r-w-rr.
Ah, I didn't try to fix permissions - I'll have to try it that way and see. Will report back, thanks!
No go - still force closes with matching permissions. I copied it over to the system\app folder with root explorer, changed the permissions and rebooted. I am going to try clearing the cache to see if that helps.
And clearing cache and dalvik didn't help, still FC. Hrm...
I don't think that's even possible since one is sense and the other is aosp.. and I can say this cuz I try getting the miui file explorer to work on a sense ROM without success...

Yeah, I can see that being the case, though I'd half expect to be able to get AOSP to work in sense, but not the other way around... *shrug*

Ok this is totally a noob question and help would be greatly appreciated I accidentally replace touchwiz browser with stock ics browser. I was ok with it at first but I miss the automatic text re flow on touchwiz. I tryed to use system app restore to restore it from a fresh install but it wont work. Any one know how to fix this?
Go into settings -- applications -- all then scroll down to the launcher and select clear defaults.. Hit home button and you will have the option to select TW as default..

I dont mean the Launcher I mean web Browser but thank you for that
Ahh... Misread sorry..
A little more info is needed.. How did you replace TW Browser with ICS Browser? From market or did you delete TW Browser from phone and push ICS Browser to system/apps??
(should be posted in Q & A section) Im a bit confused to with what your asking. Did you download an after market browser or what? The FB21 leak only comes with 1 browser, it comes with 2 launchers (a launcher is the User interface that you use to locate things throughout your phone) either way if you altered the defaults for your browser or launcher, follow as he said and go to the app (.apk) and select it then clear defaults.

Hi everyone, i just found out that Android 4.2 JellyBean apps like Calendar, Camera, etc.
I just flashed the .zip archive using CWMRecovery and it was OK according to the flashing process feedback dialog.
After flashing, all my core apps are "Force Closing". Launcher, Galery, Camera, Calendar... I had to install nova launcher in order to actually be able to "use" my phone.
Any idea of what might be happening here? Is there any log i can check for troubleshooting ?
I can either revert to the last gapps (if i manage to find them), or , try to fix this crashes.
Any solution in mind ?
I'm using the 4.1.2 Jellybean OS Version (GSM) Yakju on a Galaxy Nexus ofc. Stock rom
Here is the link to the article where i've found the how to : http://phandroid.com/2012/11/06/android-4-2-gapps-package-download/

Hi. I'm using that exact download of gapps with no problem whatsoever. I clean-flashed CNA 3.6.6 (based on AOSP 4.1.1), the gapps, and Trinity A67 kernel. All the gapps that I've used have worked without any FC's at all. Not sure what the problem could be.

I'm using 4.1.2 Jellybean, that can be a problem. Not sure tho.
I've manage to fix the Galery and Camera apps already by simply renaming the GoogleGalery.apk to GoogleGalery2.apk on the System/app folder.
Still crashing : Launcher, Calendar and Clock

You've flashed 4.2 "gapps" over 4.1.2 gapps. FC behaviour was to be expected. Next time, wipe data/reflash rom+gapps, then if things dont work open a thread.

It was not expected. Makes no sense to flash 4.2 GAPPS over a 4.2 Android OS, thats why they extracted it to allow people to flash the apps over Android 4.1 and 4.1.2
Also, wiping data and cache makes no sense in this procedure since the "flashing" process was only copying the .apks to the System/app folder

I am running into the same problem with the launcher, gmail and a couple others force close. I renamed them(as above adding the 2) in the gapps.zip and reflashed still I get the same force close.
I am using Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 stock.
Thanks,

???? huh? wipe data/factory reset because he already had 4.1.2 GAPPS installed, but on that i was mistaken, that wouldn't solve it, because gapps are pushed to /system/app. what would solve it would be to format /system, flash rom, 4.2 gapps, reboot. if FCs still occur, then wipe data/factory reset.
You need to be deodexed.

Op is using stock, which is odexed. You're using a custom rom, which is probably deodexed. Please post your issue and combo in that 4.2 gapps package thread, since you probably cant do it on the rom's thread (i.e. extra mods not supported by the rom dev), but dont cross post.

First of all, many thanks for your 4.2 camera app within Gapp on my JB 4.1.2.
I installed the first version also and would like to know where the updated version is to download without crashing of Galery, etc.
Does 3D photo also work with uploading to google maps?
Best, Rolf
Replace the stock browser with the AOSP browser
Flash thru CWM or TWRP after flashing the browser force closes, you need to clear browser data after rebooting.
Settings->Applications Manager->All->Browser->Clear Data. And re-sync to get bookmarks back

What's different in the aosp browser? Why change or of interest?
There is a aosp browser in the play store which is the exact same browser but with more options love it.
