After Dees_Troy post here about recovery in FOTA partition. I believe from now on every kernel develper will implement elf extract in his/her kernel then end user can choose whatever they like to use.
If you are lucky enough (your kernel already support elf extract) then choice is your!!
Make your choice, download then install zip in recovery.

No, you need to install a custom kernel with elf extractor supported. And you can not install custom kernel on a locked boot loader. so no chance.
Are there any ICS kernels that support this do you know?

You are not tie a recovery that came with your kernel so
1. You can choose between CWM and TWRP
2. You can upgrade version of your recovery without upgrade kernel.
I saw you are using Stock+ kernel which came with TWRP 2.4.1 you could try upgrade TWRP 2.4.3 or if you like CWM you can change by flash the other
Can I flash TWRP on FXP CM10 - 209? I think that FXP ROM's have this feature merged but I'm not too sure
Edit: I noticed in the updater script for TWRP it says
Code:
ui_print("Flashing CWM to FOTA...");
Should this be?
Code:
ui_print("Flashing TWRP to FOTA...");

If it is implemented then yes, the recovery should work.
Thank you for your good eye :good: The recovery image is the correct one but only ui_print is wrong. If you check both zip file. It is exactly same. It ment to write recovery image to FOTA partition.
I will correct the typo an upload. Meantime you could try to flash it. DON'T forget to create a backup first.

Maybe some mods that use aroma-installers. I've never bothered with any of those, my preferred rom is just a flashable zip and so are all the addons.

Help me please. I am cooking a custom ROM that will be based on stock DXLF2. Problem is, dsixda kitchen's latest version posted last July 2012 is unable to utilize the boot.img to extract the kernel and ramdisk (kitchen says the boot.img format is unsupported). I want to utilize the kernel I compiled. If you must know, I use ubuntu linux as a virtualbox guest (12.04).
All my thanks for the day will go to the fellow who could provide me with a solution as well as an explanation. Thanks and more power to everybody!

It is a well proven recovery for many phones
It also adds a full touch interface a completely configurable GUI

Locked bootloader? How to lokify before flashing:
In Advanced Menu / Toggle Loki Support : enable auto loki
Flash the zip file and you are done
However, all versions released after PhilZ Touch 6.01.2 will have a script in installer to lokify the image even if you are coming from older recoveries or TWRP.
Unlocked bootloader users can still extract the recovery.img file and restore it from inside recovery:
put recovery.img in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/philz_update/recovery.img
In Custom Backup and Restore menu, unselect all except recovery
validate to browse to the update recovery.img
done
I will try it and post results later

Yes :good:
And, please, people, read the FAQ and guides on main thread before complaining...
CM users need /data/media while all NORMAL people can use default setting
Because cm defaults to a custom non existing path: /sdcard/0 while it should use /sdcard or just /data/media/0 or auto detect like I do

If you have a folder /data/media/0, by default, this recovery will use /sdcard linked to /data/media/0
Since Cyanogen Updater is silly and using /sdcard/0, we end up with /data/media/0/0 which will fail
So, if you are a CM ROMs fan, set it to /data/media
If you use stock ROMs and you have /data/media/0 as sdcard in main ROM, keep it to /data/media/0 to be able to directly see your files in the good path in recovery AND in ROM

Just sent a little something for your efforts! Thanks again!
Made this from the new 80220B Open EUR XX kdz. This is the 16GB/32GB version. Works well, no Bloat, no carrier logos or splashscreens. I'm on SIM Free UK version, for interest. But this will work on any European d802. 4G is fine.
This is the complete LG KK 20B ROM - nothing missing or messed with.
If you follow the method below exactly, no Audio glitches, no Touchscreen problems.
You can flash SuperSU and get root if you wish - your choice.
I provide this assuming you have an understanding of the terminology used below and appreciate that any flashing activity has some risk.
I strongly advise against using any form of restore from previous backups, such as TB or Nandroid.
Once the process is complete, custom recovery will be lost.
Method:
Download both the ROM zip file linked below and SuperSU zip file (if you want root) and copy to your SD card.
You need to be already on Rooted JB or PURE CM11 with either TWRP 2.6.3.3 or 2.6.3.4 (nothing else).
Reboot to TWRP recovery
Wipe: System, Data, Cache. Dalvik (nothing else)
Flash the ROM zip - ignore any "FAIL" warnings.
Wipe Cache and Dalvik (nothing else)
Go to the Mount page in TWRP and select System (leave the other defaults alone)
Flash the SuperSU zip - ignore any "FAIL" warnings
Reboot
Done

In guessing that if we want a fully open flashable system as before we need to install this ROM, then flash the patched Kernel, then reflash our custom recovery, all in the same recovery session. Is that right?

Thanks. I went back to the .423 build (4.2.2) so I could root and already got a notification for the .244 update. Do I download (and install) the update?
Afterwards, is the procedure the same?:
1 - Put 'Flashable.101.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
2 - Put '10.4.1 .B.0.101_Stripped.ftf' inside the Flashtool/firmwares folder;
3 - Create a backup of your phone in TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard' (the internal storage!);
4 - Flash 'C65XX_10.4.1.B.0.101.flashable.zip' in TWRP;
NOTE: do not reboot but go back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off;
Flash everything in 'C65XX_10.4.1.B.0.101_Stripped.ftf' using flashtool;
Reboot to system.

Just flash the stock FTF if you need to come back to stock. It will be back to full stock without root or recovery if that's what you need. Use Flashtool to flash in Flashmode
If you flash my zip through cwm and did nothing else than that's probably why you cant boot, just flash the stripped FTF via flashtool. you probably cant boot becoz of your custom Kernel.
I am currently on the eXistenZ Rom with Android 4.2.2. I have root and CWM installed.
Can I flash this straight on top? Is it only a zip for CWM and nothing else? Would I keep root if I flash this?
Thank you in advance.

I am currently on the eXistenZ Rom with Android 4.2.2. I have root and CWM installed.
Can I flash this straight on top? Is it only a zip for CWM and nothing else? Would I keep root if I flash this?
Thank you in advance.

I came from pac man rom and was able to do a full wipe, flash zip in cwm, and then turn off phone and use flash mode to flash the ftf kernal. Kept root and zero issues so far. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure you can do the same thing.
