[Q] Cyanogenmod 10 Messaging Signature Option? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So I got Cyanogenmod 10 the other day, and well I had to add all my contacts back, thankfully I still have my old phone. Well any ways, I tried to get my ol' signature, it's even my middle name on Facebook. It's well my signature thing, dude! I couldn't find an option in the settings. Call me crazier than a crayola 64 pack, because I cannot find it.

By the first settings do you mean system settings, or messaging settings, either way I can't find MMS settings.

You may be better off using a third party SMS application, such as Go SMS Pro. Also, there is a stable version of CM10.1 that has been released. You may want to upgrade to that.

since its the desire z rom, that should work but if not.. if you have the latest version of gmail, it doesnt have the option anymore.. uninstall the update, go to settings in gmail, do what you need then update again

Here's how I set it to do "silent notifications" with the newest version of Gmail:
a) Open Gmail
b) Hit Menu > More > Settings
c) Select your email address under "Account Settings"
d) Scroll down to "Notification Settings", select "Labels to Notify"
e) Select "Inbox", select "Ringtone", set to "Silent". Hit "OK". Back out of all the menu stuff.
This way, the status bar will still let you know when you have mail (so you can check it at your leisure) but will also NOT ring annoyingly when you have mail
(Of note: This works at least through Gmail v2.3.5, which is the newest in the Market (and one version that is shipped in the GApps pack add-ons for CyanogenMod based ROMs). Pretty much one of the very first things I tend to do in setup )

That's rather odd--I'm using the latest version of Gmail available in the Market (v2.3.5) and do have that option--that said, Google seems to have made it explicitly difficult to set the thing to not ring when an email comes in (or at least non-intuitive, compared to earlier versions).
There IS a menu option to turn off notifications altogether (both ringing notifications AND in the status bar)--consists of Menu > More > Settings > Account Settings (select yer email address, if you have multiple Gmail accounts, you'll need to do this for each one), scroll down to Notification Settings, uncheck "Email Notifications".
If you merely want to turn off ringtone notifications for email (as opposed to all notifications--that is, if you don't want the thing blooping at you when you have new mail but DO want the status bar to indicate when you have mail) this gets more complex: Menu > More > Settings > Account Settings (per account) > scroll down to Notification Settings > Labels to Notify > Inbox > set Ringtone to "Silent". (There is also a checkbox for "Email notifications" in that same section that you can use to turn off the status bar notification--if for some reason you want it to bloop at you but NOT notify you in the status bar.)
(I am in the "Non Blooping For Email" camp, and with the newest version of Gmail this gave me minor fits until I played with it a bit and found out how to do it )
Thank you for the replies everyone. It was rather unintuitive but at least its possible

I am running virtuous unity 2.35, which includes the latest version of gmail. There is an option to silence notifications in the latest version of gmail.

[Q] Developer request.....

I was a Inc 1 user and asked a few times for this but it was like no one understood what i was asking for. i was wondering if its possible or if a developer would take the challenge of altering the stock sms/mms apk so that a preview of the message doesnt show up in the notification bar. I know Go SMS and Handcent have the option of showing "new message recieved" instead of showing the text contents in a privacy setting but i would like to keep the stock messaging app. puhlease someone. it would be greatly appreciated....

not so sure what u mean, or if it's possible, why not try handcent or go sms? I know u want stock, but may be the only way,
If you go under Settings>Privacy, it gives you 1 or 2 options. I'm not so sure since I'm using newtoroot's Sense 3.5 ROM and that may or may not be different from what you're using. (yes, I'm advertising a Rom, and yes, you should totally go for this rom.)
Handcent SMS does this. You can disable the preview per contact or just in general. You would disable the notifications in your normal SMS app and then set it so that Handcent is the only app that does notifications for SMS and if you disable the preview feature, it will just say "XXX-XXX-XXXX text you" or something like that
I've used handcent and am currently go sms. Was just curious if there was a way to do it for the stock. Guess it cant be done.

GO SMS Issue

Anyone else's GO SMS not showing the sender's name for text messages, just the #? No issues until ICS.
To add to that ive got a gosms notification in my top bar to say ive got a new message. I can see the first few words of the message but when i click on it i cant see the text (i just get the text box to reply) and it doesnt exist in the stock sms app either.
I have this problem as well, also custom themes do not work at all. I've abandoned gosms for handcent for now at least. It's too bad the ICS theme for gosms looks so great too!
i have this aswell, i thought it was just me. Hopefully it will be updated soon.
Yeah - I had the same problem. I've switched to stock Messaging app and SMS Popup out of necessity, but now that I know Handcent works I might try that.
Newbie question, but what advantages do 3rd party SMS apps over the stock app.

Different themes, pop-up notifications with the ability to reply, just far more control in general.

Think iPhone vs. Android in terms of the amount of control one has.

The big feature is SMS pop up - it's super nice. SMS pop up doesn't remove the text from the notification bar, but it does mark it read, which is annoying. Handcent works alright.

GO SMS
Developer is working on update for GO SMS to be compatible with ICS - I have found Chomp to work the best in the mean time
GO SMS for ICS released this morning! Fixed...kind of.
Some of the messages have been linked to the contact, but not all. Can't see the pattern either. Again, only occurs within the app. Quick Reply is fine.
Edit: Just did a clear data. Will see what happens.
Edit: Just received a few SMS. Some are finding the name, some arent'. No pattern that I can see.

disable factory messaging app?

is there a way to disable the factory messaging app?
i'm using Go SMS Pro.
when one person sends me a text with an emojicon, the default app indicates i have new message.
There is no option in android to disable this, I use Handcent SMS and there is an option within the app to disable the default messaging notifications. I would think there would be a simliar option in SMS Pro but can't say for sure as i have never used it.
Good point, I'll dig into the settings.
Why not just hide the icon in the app drawer by pressing menu then hide app. Ive never disabled the messaging app before but i could picture it making you unable to recieve messages.

Or just disable notifications on the stock app.

Came here to say exactly this. You will have no adverse effects. I rocked GoSMS (which is good for group sms, popups, and mms but terrible otherwise) for 4 months with messaging disabled in the app manager. It will go to the bottom and never make another peep until you re enable. If you uninstall go or other sms apps you will not get messages though.

There is some bug sometimes when you dissable stock messenger. I notice after you update 3rd party messanger like GOSMS you not gona receive mms antill you enable stock. Then you need to clear all cache and defults on stock and 3rd party then choose defult messanger and dissable stock.

If you want to totally disable the app. I used TitaniumBackup to freeze it. Ultimately, I ended up uninstalling it all together, because I was getting a weird notification with every text I would receive and started using GO SMS, but I hated it, so I reinstalled the messaging app and haven't looked back. To my knowledge, that's the only way to actually "disable" it. Otherwise, turning off the notifications and hiding the app should serve you well.

Question Messages Ringtone

Anyone know a way to change the default text message ringtone on Google messages? I can set them individually, but that's a pain.
Long press the app > (i) Information > Notifications, and from there you will probably be able to set a default notification ringtone.

No dice.
Not sure if this is what you need. Go to Settings. Then Apps. Go to the app you want and there's a section to change the default sound. I did for a number of apps already.
