[Q] Multiple GoPro control without switching networks, do able? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi Guys,
I have a cousin who is trying to control multiple GoPro cameras using his sprint GS3. Currently he changes WiFi networks to control each, but he'd like to be able to connect to all at once and simplify the process.
I'm not sure if it's do-able with WiFi Direct somehow, if the device could do it if it were rooted, etc, etc. I have a Note 2, but no GoPro's so I can't really help him out (and we aren't close in proximity to try either).
Hoping someone can chime in, or let me know where might be a better place to ask.
TIA!

Network Connection to Android Phone through USB?

So this is a pretty random question, hopefully someone has needed to do it before as well. I work for a company that does a lot of tradeshows where we use mobile devices and use Wi-Fi. As you can image in a tradeshow there's a lot of Wi-Fi noise and interference.
My hope is there is a way to provide a mobile device (i.e. Evo) with a network connection through the USB cable? Has anyone ever seen this, or heard of it? If so, could you assist in providing any references? I cannot find anything at all...
so you dont want cellular data you want data from your laptop to your phone.
the new HTC Sense on the HD phones has what they call Internet PassThru which from what i read is supposed to be the same thing as what HTC did on the windows mobile phojes using active sync on your pc where it would pull data from the pc instead of wifi or 3G or 4G.
this does not work on any of the EVO HD ports, and i have not confirmed it even works on the phones it was designed for.
this was a feature i dearly want also and frankly its just reverse tethering, but its a completely different animal when it comes to data send/recieve.
so.... i would... i dont know.. check out the EVO roms with the 'HD' in the rom name and see what you can do.
if you are not into Android Dev'ing then i am afraid to say you are s.o.l. and i have seen neither a free or paid app that will allow this reverse tethering and i see no plans from HTC to allow it on the EVO.
frankly i dont understand why Spring wouldnt want this as a feature when the EVO was released... i mean jesus imagine how much more free resources there would be on their network if more and more phones where able to usb connecto to their PC for data.
keep the calls going over Cellular but jsut have the Data come from the usb.
frankly i dont know if its that hard to program, i cant imagine it is, but i am not a dev. just a free thinker with an attitude problem.
Yea, so tried one of the HD roms and the internet passthrough isn't functioning. Has anyone else been able to get something like this working?

[Q] Programmatically Turn Wi-fi Hotspot on/off

I'm thinking about building an application for personal use. The details aren't important but one of the things i would like to be able to do is turn the wifi hotspot on or off. I've looked around, but haven't been able to find anything on the subject, or whether or not it's even possible.
Does anybody have some information on this?
Most ICS ROM's have that option built in...have you tried app store search or just a google search?

Click to collapse
If you intend to have your phone automattically turn on wifi hotspot based on certain profiles, Tasker will do that for you. You can find it in the playstore. It's a paid app though.
Well, i suppose suggestions for apps that do the sort of thing i want to do. Unfortunately there's nothing out there that does what i want, because I want something rather unusual.
I spoke to a friend yesterday and he pointed me in the direction of the API i want (which contrary to my initial assumptions was not DHD specific), so when i have the time i can put together my tool.
Thanks anyway

[Q] Questions, and need some advice (inactive/no-service phone)

Hi All,
So I am looking to root a phone for the first time, and I recently changed carriers and upgraded to a new phone (DNA).
I have an old EVO 4G and I am currently using basically as a game device and some e-mail / web stuff.
First, my question: Before I start the ROOT process, one thing I am curious about, is my PC setup. I have heard that Anit-Virus can freak out about some of the tools used to perform the ROOTing process, so I plan to build a stand alone PC to do this with. Can I use a Virtual Machine, or does the machine need a solid connection to the USB port you are connecting the phone too. By "solid" I mean that most VMs kind of share the USB with the Host and the VM, and I wanted to know if that could create a problem in the rooting process.
Second, need advice on which ROM would best serve my current usage. I've been looking at UBERSONIC by frinkinjerms because it is specifically designed for inactive devices, but I don't use my phone as a media device, so I don't know if that is the ROM best suited to me.
Are there any other ROMs that are well suited to in-active devices? There are so many to go through and so far I haven't seen any others that specifically talk about that. I love the idea of all the cellular junk ripped out, but I still want the messaging and web stuff.
Thanks,
Wrayth Osu

Strange IPs when Tethering?

Hey guys -
Thought I'd throw this out there, to see what others thought (or knew)..
When I wi-fy tether on my phone (using CM10.1 built-in. i.e. No special apps), my laptop tries to contact two hosts via GRE first, then over port 111 (sunrpc, apparently..). One of the hosts is 66.152.109.100. The other end in .100, but I don't have it handy at the moment.
Wondering why - when I was on Verizon, this never happened. Wondering if this is some detection sceme or something running by TMobile. So far, I've blocked the attempts each time, but was curious.
Cheers -
Mike.
a quick ip look up suggest that its the data handler for tmobile lte. Tech Valley Communications handles fiber optic high speed net, cloud based pbx, etc. just a hunch though

Unlocked G2 w/ Max WiFi Users 1 + Questions

TLDR: Unlocked LG G2 was on Sprint, now on VIVA in Kuwait, Max WiFi users when running hotspot is 1 - I want to increase it to more.
Long version:
Hello! I am a military service member deployed to Kuwait. I have a Sprint LG G2 which is rooted and running the latest UltraPop ROM. Before I left the US, my phone was activated on the Sprint network and when I would use my WiFi hotspot, I had the ability to connect up to 10 users or something. When I got to Kuwait, I had to have my phone SIM unlocked for International use to make it work with the SIM cards provided by the carrier here (it's called VIVA). My phone was not on the Sprint network when I needed to unlock so when I did the UICC unlock it did an OTA over WiFi and then I was able to use my phone on their carrier. This is all well and good.
The problem is, I want to connect my laptop, my tablet and a few other items to my hot spot - thus the appeal of the hot spot, right? LOL. Anyway, several advanced options like the radio channel, frequency, etc. have now disappeared and in addition, the most important one - the amount of users able to connect to the hotspot, went from allowing 10 to 1. I am not sure why, except maybe something to do with the OTA update when I did the UICC unlock.
I did some reading and found this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718682
Quickly I tried it and restarted my phone. No change. Then I noticed there was another hack for phones that had been activated on the Sprint network, which as I explained above, believe applies to me. This article has a more complicated procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2675280
I am afraid to try this method and screw things up. I suppose I could boot in TWRP and do a NANDROID back up before I try it but I am wondering if anyone thinks it will hose the only working Internet I have right now in Kuwait.
Any help is appreciated. Also, if anyone knows how to get the WiFi hotspot to allow devices to connect while running a VPN at the same time please enlighten me!
Thanks!!!
Sincerely, Lost & Confused...
OK, so I am going to resurrect my own thread here. I spent some time on and off dealing with the 1 client max for the hot spot in my Sprint LG G2. Lots of frustration. Anyway, digging deeper based on a tip another friend of mine gave, I discovered something that I thought would have helped, but no cigar.
Anyway, a variable called max_num_sta in the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant/hostapd.conf allows the access point to have only one client. The hostapd application on Android performs almost identical to an average Linux distro, so I figured by modifying this variable I would be able to allow more than 1 client to connect to my hotspot. However, even when changing the file manually, as soon as the hot spot is enabled thru the stock interface, only 1 client is able to connect and looking at the file again shows the value of the variable has been reset.
Next step on the list, was to run the hostapd manually from an Android terminal (something like hostapd -e/data/misc/wifi/entropy.bin -BK /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf). The command works at the hot spot functions, but again somehow resets to 1 freaking client again!
I would really like to be able to use my G2 to connect more than one device at a time to my hot spot while I am stuck in Kuwait. It is my only source of Internet. Anyway. Is there a way to disable the stock Wi-Fi Hot Spot interface using Titanium Back-up? Remove the APK? Modify the system? Something? I'd really like to figure this out. Any info or suggestion appreciated...
