[Q] Problem with recovery and rooting - HTC One V

Hi,
i've got my One V 2 days ago and i try to root it now
i have unlocked my phone successfully, but now i can't get any step further.
(if i'm in h-boot it says *** Unlocked *** )
I tried the all_in_one_kid_2.1 to flash a recovery, tried to do it manually via fastboot and tried to follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964, i also tried to install cwm trough its App.
While i try to push and install my recovery (cwm or openrecovery twrp) it stucks, my phone freezes and i have to restart it with this virtual accupull (you know, hold the shutdown-key just very long)
here is the fastboot way:
fastboot devices
FA28MTV00376 fastboot
(so i think, the phone has gone into fastboot-mode and is avaiable for fastboot)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (5464 KB)...
(well it stucks just here for 30+min i had to reboot the phone completely after this.
all other ways i tried just react the same way. i dunno if i have missed something but, as i understood this process, i unlock the bootloader via htc (wich i did successfully) and then i install just a recovery, or do i have to do something between this too steps?

Try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747168&highlight=easy+kernel-recovery+flasher
It's working, no matter if it's discontinued, just try. Worked and still working for me for changing kernels and recovery.
For recovery, go for TWRP: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2, select primou or CDMA - what you have (as you're from Germany you have probably Primou) and install through flasher...
But, I would first update all HTC drivers in PC - instal HTC Sync Manager, it comes with newest drivers: http://www.htc.com/www/support/news.aspx?p_id=439&p_name=htc-one-v (later, you can uninstall manager and just keep drivers...)
Think also about kernel... Sometimes stock kernel is not the good idea. Try Hellboy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954967
Hope that it will help... :fingers-crossed:

My thread has all the things u require...just check it out

hey What rom are you wanting specifically I can give you a step by step guide on how to root the htc one v without worrying about bricking your phone at all and it will not be confusing like most of the walkthroughs to rooting your device

Hey guys, thanks for your help, i finally figured it out, the problem was my pc, seems that there is a problem with my drivers, i tryed it on another PC and fastboot worked flawless. I rooted several different phones and tablets in the last year without a problem, so i thought it has to do with the phone /rooting process itself.
Finally, i think it has to do with vmware and its sphereclient, its the last software i can remember, that is new. Besides, everytime i plug in a usb-device Windows installs some vmware-usb-support-driver. Well in the end it worked. i just have to figure out how to close this topic.
I dunno, what rom i will use in the future, i've made the experiance that its the best to try a few, guess i will find "my" rom (or developer) pretty soon.
Thanks,
DerMitDemPunkt

Just remember hit thanks to whomever helped you and very glad to try and help

[Q] I'm stuck with Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 recovery !!

I cannot upgrade to a newer version of Clockworkmod recovery !
I have tried everything, fastboot flash returns failed signature verification, rom manger also cannot update to a newer version.
Also tried Unrevoked but it fails.
the phone is rooted and I have flashed several ROMs in the past without any problem.
Any idea?
Fastboot flash doesn't return verification failed error.
You need to be s-off to change recover using fastboot. Before you do anything, read some tutorials, you need to differentiate among most basic terms.

I get this error from fastboot
< waiting for device >
sending 'recovery' (3256 KB)... OKAY [ 0.468s]
writing 'recovery'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 0.952s
I have tried to flash clockworkmod 5 and also tried the touch version, but with no luck.
Maybe the S-OFF is messed up, but only if rom manager did something wrong, because last time when I have upgraded the recovery it was from ROM Manager.
Fail on my part...
That seems like there is no device tho. My money is on broken drivers. There is a guide how to do in development so search for it as it works 100%.
unrevoked connects to phone, sends the file to phone then at the end it fails.
I have tried revolutionary for S-OFF the program connects to phone then displays the phone serial number, asks for the key then after I enter the key, the connection is lost.
So I really don't know what to do anymore, and I need a newer recovery since the one which I have does not have options to partition the SD Card and ICS is eating a lot of memory without SDExt.
The phone is ok, it's not broken, I flash every 2-3 days a newer ICS ROM and it works.
why dont you try a different recovery.i have been using ext4 recovery for a while and imo it is way better than cwm....
I use clockworkmod because I have purchased the ROM manager tool and it works with their recovery.
I finally managed to flash a newer clockworkmod recovery and very strange after reboot it has reverted back to the old 2.5.0.7 version !!! At least I was able to partition my sd-ext...
I have tried the boot CD with alpha-rev it freezes in the final stage, but after that I was able to flash the new recovery using the recovery itself, but as I said after reboot the new recovery has gone !
Now I have tried to flash again a newer recovery from ROM manager it says it finished successful, but the recovery still remains 2.5.0.7

Because all you are doing is a fake flash. You need to flash it from fastboot in order to stick.
Ditch the Rom manager. That pos app is guilty of more usb bricks than most of us can count.
And how can I flash it from HBOOT ?

You need to read ADB for dummies guide to gain knowledge how to set ADB up.
Then you go into hboot by pressing vol- and power button.
Select fastboot.
Download your recovery.img and place it in the same folder your fastboot.exe is, then type in cmd:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache.
Return to hboot and boot in the recovery.

Erklat, thanks for this - I have the same problem.
i have finally got round to get adb, etc, working..and it kinda works, except that when flash a newer version of CWM (v5.0.2) on fastboot it still doesn't work. I tried using the Rom manager, which failed straight away, and I followed your steps above. But still didn't work.
So my story's background:
I rooted my Desire with Unrevoked so I could install ICS (sandvold) - and it has been working beautifully. But now I want to create an ext3 partition and the GParted method is far too complex for me to follow through.
CWM i have installed doens't partition, and so I though I'd update the recovery tool so I could use it to partition.
Any suggestions on what I could do?

Do you get an error when you flash a new recovery via fastboot or does it say it successfully flashed the recovery.img file? If you didn't get an error, do you always go to Rom Manager to access recovery? If yes, I say ditch rom manager. Try vol down + power like on erklat's instruction, this time select Recovery. See if the recovery you flashed is booted.
If you are s-off it's better you flash 4ext recovery. It's by far the best recovery you can use for Desire.

I also tried flashing RA, just to see if it would work (and also heard its better). But nothing. It's quite bizarre.
My phone is not S-OFF - I used the HTC official software and I dont' think it does it - I have no problems in doing it if it will resolve this problem.
I have also tried this flashing using the terminal, Which I found in the Q&A's but i get several error messages, and then finally:
"error writing recovery: No space left on device"
So I uninstalled a couple of apps (freeing some 10mb+) but still the same issue.
As you are not s-off you can't flash recovery, get s-off and flash any you like

RA has not been maintained for quite some time. 4EXT is probably the best and it's developer is very devoted to his project.

Ah that really sucks. Will I be able to gain S-Off by using AlphaRev? Revolution doesn't work because my HBoot is 1.0.3... and thus not supported.
Once I get it to be S-Off I'll switch to 4EXT.
Thanks, for the help so far!

Unbricking HTC One X... Pls Help Me

Hi Gentlemen,
I am new to rooting Androind phones since been using iphone all this years. Right now, I think my HTC One X is bricked. This is what I've done to cause it in this situation:
1) After installing Clockwork Recovery and Super SU. I installed the super wipe.
2) Run super wipe and proceeded to install Android Revolution ROM but the installation was unsuccessful. Not much reason was stated. So I proceeded to reboot the phone and now it just hang at the splash screen.
I've done alot of read up and research the forum how to unbrick my phone but I'm clueless and don't know what to do anymore. I can still get to bootloader screen and that's the furthest I can go.
Pleasse help me.

I take it you did the right thing and made sure you have the right RUU for your phone before you attempted to root?
Hmmm managed to get myself stuck in the same situation here a well as wouldnt go back into recovery. Have relocked bootloader but whn I try to reflash RUU it wont recognise the phone even though it shows in device manager correctly and I can control via fastboot commands but doesnt show when using adb devices.
Any ideas whey RUU cant see the phone?

Remember to Flash Stock Recovery before relocking your bootloader.
wen you are done whit that enter bootloader and press Fastboot then run the RUU file...
DaDoctor!
ya i was one of the first to say that lol but i dont care anymore hehe im just trying to help ppl but sometimes ill get wen seeing ppl posting that exact same thing you have done to alot of pll
Managed to get the RUU to recognise my phone, needed HTC Sync installed even though everything else was working ok without, but although I can now flash RUU's I get a customer number error which I guess Im getting as my phone was a branded T-Mobile one.
Therefore am I correct in saying that unless I can get RUU 1.26.110.5, which is the RUU I need, or get recovery working again by some mircale then Im screwed and now have a rather expensive paper weight?
I manage to boot to cwm recovery. And now the question is, how can I transfer the stock rom or the android revo hd rom to my sdcard from fastboot since i cant boot up my phone cos it stuck at the flash screen. Since I had done the superwipe before all this and now its empty.
Thanks for all the tips given so far.
I FOUND THE SOLUTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!
First Sorry for my French !
So, flash stock recovery first, lock the recovery.
Go to fastboot, and click on the Power Off, screen goes black and the phone is OFF.
Put the charger and the usb on the phone, WAIT 1 or 2hours, led still red, DON'T POWER ON !
When is done, go fastboot, launch RUU, IT'S DONE, battery is good !
Works for me

Cool well done for getting back into recovery....how did you manage it? As for getting rom back did you not do a backup of the previous rom before wiping? If not you may be stumped for the time being as USB mount does not work on any of the custom recoveries so far.
I fastboot the boot.img and also flash the CWM recovery. This steps enable me to get back to recovery.
But my mistake was i did not any back up on the previous rom and now i cant do a normal boot up as it will stuck at the htc white screen. So i believe the reason it cant boot up is because there is no rom at all.
So now, the only way i can flash rom from recovery is to send file to my sdcard via fastboot. but i don't know the command needed for it, so I need help with the command. i have with me now is the stock rom and also ARHD rom. but i cant access my sdcard to transfer the file.
I have tried to download the stock RUU but unfortunately it says that my CID is imcompatible. My set is from Singapore and now I will try to download this RUU RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_HK_1.26.708.2_Radio_1.1204.90.13_release_251215_signed.exe.
If all else fails, final option is to send back my set to HTC service center and have it repaired and pay the charges

Backups are only half of the story. When you cant get into recovery to restore the backups that you HAD made and then when trying to reflash the RUU to resotre your phone it then wipes the backups but then allows you back into recovery where you now have no backups nor the ability to mount USB or push anything to the SD so and still in the same siutation just with nice blue writing now thats just plain sods law......LOL!

Think we are fairly screwed until either USB/ADB is working in recovery or S-Off is available in which case any RUU should work I believe. Worth hanging on rather than paying HTC in my opinion.

Cannot access flashboot / recovery - RESOLVED

Hi,
I've looked through a lot of threads but can't match the symptoms to mine (this could be a lack of knowledge on my part) so any help is appreciated.
I've previously flashed ARHD a number of times successfully including a new boot image. I flashed 9.2 today with CD Tools Suite and this was fine. I later decided that I wanted to re-flash without the CD Suite Tools and did this by going into recovery and re-flashing the ARHD zip.
The update ran successfully (per CWM) but I can't boot into it. All I get to is the HTC One white screen with a beats audio logo beneath it. I also can't get the phone to reboot into flashboot / recovery so that I can do anything with it (I've tried holding the power button and either vol up or down but this just reboots the phone and it goes back to the white screen again).
I'm sure there is a way out of this. Could anyone please help me?
Many thanks.

Did you use fastboot to flash the correct boot.img file first? It's my understanding that anytime you flash a rom you must flash via fastboot the correct boot.img file for that rom followed by erasing cache before entering recovery and flashing the rom.
Didn't someone say holding volume up & power can brick your phone?
Fastboot is volume down & power.
Press them at the exact same time, keep them held till fastboot loads up (even if it does another reboot)

then i tried to restore (as i did few days before )
now actual problem comes it is not going to recovery option then i flashed boot.img and recovery.img but nothing happened so i searched a lot in XDA and tried (Titanum KISS, hellboy, stock kernel and one boot img in my recovery folder and for recovery CWM 6.0 TWRP and some more ) but the problem still cant be solved i tried to stock RUU but due to hboot older version in downloaded RUU.ZIP could not .....
i want permanent solution for this problem because in last two month it happened 2-3 times..... plz solve asap and let me know what is the actual problem ...thanks
and one more thing i tried 2 install PACMAN v23 with boot.img which was in zip file that stats failed in HTC ONE V AIO kit so if i want to try pacman v23 what should i do .........

Okay, if you can get into hboot mode please write down the parameters of the phone (like radio hboot etc)
do you use CDMA or GSM OneV?
If you know the CID of the phone write it down too.
If the phone cannot past the bootloader screen (with the red text thing you see) it is most probably kernel problem I think, but want to be sure. Also you MUST NOT install boot.img-s in the ROM zips.

OK I suggest you download the latest version of Shpongled by IceBox, and either the iron man kernel or the latest Hellboy kernel. It is important that you download the most recent versions of all of these so we can skip version incompatibility problems. Feel free to take your pick of the recovery you want to use from the latest releases on the forum, so long as it is for the PrimoU phone.
Next boot into the boot loader then fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I would do all of this through the cmd menu, but feel free to us the AIO
then try and reboot into recovery
let me know what happens
kind regards
Try re flash the recovery as there might be a problem with recovery partition .. U know how to go to fastboot then flash recovery ... Might help you

please click on reply and I get a message about that anything happened here, I'm not in front of xda 24/7
The thing you have written down looks more like a bootloader problem for me, first thing you should try to RUU your phone, but as I see you have the 1.18 hboot, so no luck for you, because there is no RUU for that version yet.
Altough you can try to return for stock kernel first and flash latest TWRP recovery then try to install THIS (if you can get than into recovery mode, stock backup for the 1.18 hboot indian V) then go back to bootlader and flash stock recovery (or not)
So it will like this:
-flash the linked kernel (which is the stock for indian 1.18 hboot version) with fastboot command (try to do it without AIO) fastboot flash boot boot.img
-flash twrp also with command prompt: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img or the name that recovery has.
-don't reboot as of yet! type in fastboot erase cache, then fastboot reboot-bootloader
-now try to get into recovery
With this the phone will be absolute stock with a firmware that is compatible with 1.18 indian hboot. Othet then this there is nothing I can probably think of except RUU, but this is out of question for you atm...

It's hard to tell, because without RUU for your phone this can't be resolved easily. This could be a brick as of now in my opinion, the phone isn't in front of me, so it's hard to tell. Only warranty and HTC service is plausible for me ATM.

This is twrp backup, so cannot say a thing because I use cwm, you need to push it to your sd card in a directory for twrp backups (the backup is not made by me, I'm from Europe) then go to recovery and recover or backup button.

recovery won't open

good day,
i have an HTC 10 factory unlocked, i had the bootloader unlocked through HTCdev. i then flashed the latest TWRP recovery, attempting to enter revovery....i cant. i din't get the triangle thingy what so ever,it jus displayed the screen like when you're about to enter bootloader mode. then it would restart after that, almost brick it cuz it didn't wanna boot at one pointing time :crying::crying: .i've rooted m7,8 & 9 and never came across something like that. i can't even flash over new rom cuz cmd is given error: can't open recovery. before i attempted bootloader unlock via htcdev, i tried sunshine jus to avoid the hassle and when it was attempting to give me temproot, it failed....3 times so that was useless, leaving me to go manual. any help on this?
Wrong thread. But sounds like recovery didn't flash. Make sure your flashing to recovery partition. Search thread for toolkit, will make it easier.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery. IMG @download mode
I used this tool to safely and successfully install ROM and Recovery.. Maybe you could try..
Thanks to the developer..

Not sure if this helps, but I get the same type of issue when booting to recovery, except my phone is bone stock.
What works for me is right after the symbol comes up, press Vol Up and Power at the same time. If I time it right, recovery mode comes up. Not sure if it will work with TWRP, since I've never used it.
