Hello all,
I've got an Arc S that I've been trying to unlock the bootloader on using Sony's method, without success.
1. I have fastboot and adb installed on my machine (Linux Mint 14 32bit)
2. I've pulled the unlock code from Sony's website
3. I set my udev rules as laid out in this tutorial.
4. I have checked my bootloader to confirm that it can be unlocked (and currently is locked)
5. Fastboot is working (When I type in sudo fastboot devices, I get a hexadecimal string in response)
6. However, when I try to unlock, it always fails.
Initially, it gave me a "oem unlock failure code". After I rebooted thought, the code changed. Instead of something like this
Code:
oem unlock failed!
it gave me this
Code:
...
and did nothing. I let it sit for a few minutes and then forcibly shut down terminal, no damage done to the phone.
I'm quite confused at this point. From all my google searching I can't figure out why the booloader won't unlock. I'm pretty sure that I have the right unlock code.
A second and curious thing that may or may not be related is that the phone is rooted, but when I tried to transfer CWM via fastboot it threw an error, saying that the phone needed to be rooted first. However, it is rooted and apps such as Titanium Backup work just fine, verifying the root. Can anyone give me some direction on this?
I know there is a video on the how to unlock lt18i bootloader. It also has step by step process on fixing issues for unlocking bootloader. Lemme get.it for ya.

May be a relatively simple thing. Is your phone simlocked? This may have some bearing on it.

I don't believe that it is simlocked. I don't believe the phone was purchased through a carrier. For clarification, this is a friend's phone so I would need to ask them as to where they purchased it.

No, it is not simlocked, else it would not show Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes
To OP: Write out the command you used to unlock the bootloader.

As taken from the Cyanogenmod Wiki page for Anzu devices:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY
where KEY was the bootloader unlock I received from Sony.
The dots indicate the software's not detecting your device. I had the same problem. Try reinstalling the drivers. If it still fails, maybe you can give the method outlined in the link below a go. It's for the relatively newer Sony devices, but maybe it'd work with the Arc. I haven't personally tried unlocking via Flashtool, but for me, the Fastboot command-based experience hasn't been all too good. I now use the Fastboot option in Flashtool, as opposed to standalone Fastboot, to flash every kernel that I use. Works like a charm each time, and what's more, it does away with the need to key in commands in the exact syntax.

I tried unlocking the bootloader via Flashtool and I got the same result of
Code:
oem unlock failed!
. So that means that something is wrong with my fastboot installation (not likely)my udev rules(possible) or for some crazy reason the phone is not reporting back correctly. A curious thing I noted is that when the phone is detected via adb it doesn't return the phone's IMEI. It does return a number, but it does not match the IMEI. Has anyone ever heard of that situation?

I don't believe Fastboot returns the phone's IMEI. It's always looked to me like a random number that's generated to show successful connectivity between the device and the Fastboot program. But then again, I could be wrong.
Anways, despite the message you got, it's looking increasingly likely that your bootloader cannot be unlocked.
PS: You retired your SGS III, but kept your Arc? The decision really befuddles me.

After much research I've found that when you get the "remote: oem unlock failed!" message it means you've enter an incorrect unlock code. Thing is, I know that I have entered the IMEI correctly on Sony's website, so I'm stumped there. I tried this setup in windows and got the same result, so I don't think it's fastboot or drivers anymore. It makes me wonder why I would be getting an incorrect unlock code...
To answer your PS, this phone belongs to a friend of my whom I'm doing a favor for. Note I don't have the Arc S in my sig. My retired SIII went to my wife, who was quite happy to have it.

Are you sure that you left out the LAST number of the IMEI, when entering it on the website? You need to do that, else you get invalid code.

Yup, that I have. I originally entered the 15 digit code and the website threw an error, so I deleted the last digit to get the unlock code that I tried.
same issue as LT26ii
Well I have exactly the same issue at my Xperia SL LT26ii, it just shows "oem unlock failed", do anyone know how to fix this ?

oem unlock failed
Problem solved!
Hey guys, I just unlocked my LT26ii after many times of "oem unlock failed". Here's my solution:
0. well first just remember your IMEI code, cause later it will changed.
1. Download a new firmware in ftf format.
2. Update firmware with Flashtool.
3. Turn on your phone and get you imei code. Now you should got a new one different from the previous one.
4. Use the NEW imei to unlock your phone.
Good Luck !
PS: dont guarantee that worked but if it does please let'me know.

Alright, here's the thing... My mk16i has a locked bootloader... Even still i ventured to attempt unlocking it through test point method and s1tool.
Apparently all steps worked, the s1 boot thing is now reported with an lowercase letter (just as mentioned in tutorial) which got me pretty hyped up...
but I just seem to be unable to get into fastboot mode, I do get the blue led for like 2 seconds and then is changes to orange and cell phone goes to battcharge mode (black screen with big batt charging icon).
The only thing I have not tested is first flashing the stock rom... I dunno if having custom rom has something to do.
Any ideas?

You've not unlocked it properly.
Well... I spent more hours into this last night, here's what happened:
Apparently test point method and s1tool can unlock the bootloader, I got notifications from s1tool, flashtool and Omnius that my phone was already bootloader unlocked... BUT it seems that the real limitation for "bootloader unlock allowed: no" phones is that fastboot is disabled, and searching through all the forums I only found one post of someone stating that no dev has been able to enable fastboot on these devices.
So, I even restored (relocked) the bootloader with s1tool in order to now try Omnius.
The good news is, Omnius works... I really have no idea how it did it, but Omnius did unlock my "unlock allowed: no" phone, and it uses the same test point method... the bad news is that it required me to buy an "Android single unlock license" for 15 euros... so I really hope it will be worth it.
That's all.
Good luck everyone.
Hello,
I bought a Sony Xperia Acro S off eBay and the seller must have forgotten to mention that it's a Chinese version phone.
Navigating settings and switch the language to English was simple enough, but then I realize it's bloated with Chinese apps and lacks 'Play Store' and has something called 'PlayNow' in its place -- which is the real problem.
After searching a while I decided my best bet would be to unlock the bootloader so that I could install something different using Sony's flashing tool.
This, of course, requires me to first unlock the bootloader.
I attempted to follow the directions at the Sony 'unlock boot loader' sire in order to do this, but unfortunately at step 15 things don't go well for me and when I enter the command prompt fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version , instead of getting a version return I get a list of command (attachment) options and I have yet to find anywhere after 8 hours of forum searching to tell me what to do. All I see is, "You should get..." yeah, well... I should... but I don't.
My next move was to try and use flashtool in order to unlock the bootloader. So I downloaded it, installed it, then installed the accompanying driver program with all boxes checked.
I clicked the BLU button and set it to flashmode as it told me, then switched to fastboot mode as it told me, then it when it gets to the unlocking part o the process it shows my IMEI number and asked for the bootloader key that Sony sent me.
I'm feeling pretty good at this point and enter the key and then what do I see? FAILED (remote: oem unlock failed!)
I really don't know what my next move is. I'm just hoping someone her has my missing information.
If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Try Again, make sure you entered the right IMEI Key (i acidently typed the wrong one a couple of times)
also make sure Fastboot, ADB are installled, (ALSO make sure that the drivers for the Device are installed)
if you need anything just ask or google it, im sure someone else can help you more than i can aswell
If all fails your boot-loader may be non UNLOCKABLE

It is unlockable... that's one of the first steps. Don't forget that Sony even sent me the unlock key.
The IMEI is automatically detected by flashtool and it is uneditable. It's correct nonetheless.

Hi everyone!
Yesterday I unlocked bootloader of my Arc, and now I'd like to flash XUK, but.. I read that phones with bootloader unlocked by Test point method can't be flashed with a .img kernel, only with .ftf. Is that true?
And if is, how can I convert boot.img -> boot.ftf to flash it with flashtool?
Thanks a lot

First time I hear this. Definitely false statement.
On side note - Boot.img can not be converted to boot.ftf. Maybe can, but not worth the time and effort.

So there's no risk flashing in fastboot on this Arc?
Tomorrow I'll try that.
Thanks a lot again.
You can't really fail with flashing kernel, as long as you got the command right. If it does return an error in fastboot, post it here and we will find the reason.
I tried to enter into fastboot, but the phone starts to charge instead of turn blue the Led. I'm a bit confused with that, because S1 Tool shows:
RUNNING S1_EROM VER "r9A021"
SOFTWARE AID: 0001
LOADER AID: 0001
FLASH ID: "002C/00B3"
LOADER VERSION: "r4A069"
SEMC SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE
The small "r" means that bootloader is unlocked.. then, why can't I enter to fastboot?
Any help?
Thanks
Just flash a kernel with fastboot. Post the log if you need more information.
I am not sure, what are you trying to say with S1.

I can't enter to fastboot, when I try it, the phone starts to charge, like phones with locked bootloader. That is what confuses me.
Phones with locked bootloaders can enter fastboot mode, but they wouldn't be able to flash a kernel. Flashing would end up with an error.
In your case, the fastboot is disabled then. 12W11 and earlier manufactured phones can have fastboot enabled via testpoint method. Others don't.

I don't think the unlocking process was successful then.

The guide I followed to unlock it say that:
and my phone is "Loader version: r4A069".
I have not mentioned that I unlocked simlock with NCK code provided by my telephone company before try to unlock bootloader with the testpoint method. Actually I can use any simcard from any company and it works fine, and in theory I unlocked bootloader too.. It's very confusing can't to access to fastboot in my situation.

Which guide did you follow? Using test point method to unlock bootloader should enable fastboot as well.
Test point method would have removed the simlock anyway, could have saved some bucks if you paid for the code.

No, I didn't pay for the code. When the contract with the phone company finish, they have to give the code for free.
I don't know, I'll tray again to unlock with test point.
In attached files is the guide I followed, but it's in spanish.
Here's a similar tutorial in english, but in that says phones "unlock allowed: no" cannot be unlocked with testpoint :silly:

When I unlocked my bootloader about a year ago.... I used the Official Sony Bootloader Unlock method and it worked for me. If you haven't found it already, then you can find it here ( http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/ ). Some people also say that they used Flashtool to unlock the bootloader, so you might give that a try if you'd prefer that to the official Sony method.
I saved the bootloader unlock instructions that I used last year from the Sony website, and there was one important step to pay close attention to-- When going through the steps to request the unlock key from Sony, it said - "Enter your name, a valid email address and the first 14 digits of your device’s IMEI or MEID or IDID number (remove the last digit if necessary). Click submit." It was important to only enter the 1st 14 characters of the IMEI when submitting for the unlock key... Also, I read in some other XDA posts that you need to make sure that you use all CAPS on any letters that might be in the IMEI code...as it apparently can cause you to get a bad unlock code if you don't use all CAPS. After you submit this to Sony, they will email you the unlock key.
The last step of the Official Sony Method says: "... If you still want to unlock the bootloader of your device, enter the command *fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY, where KEY is the unlock bootloader key that you got in the beginning of this instruction. The bootloader should now be successfully unlocked." Make sure you are copying the fastboot commands exactly... including the lower case x that comes right before your unlock key.
You may want to try to go through the steps again with the Sony Website to see if you get a different unlock key by trying the above tips. Then try to use the Official Sony method to unlock the bootloader, or try Flashtool to see if that will work.

Try "fastboot oem device-info" without quotes, to get bootloader info. Should tell you if it's unlocked or not

I'll have a look at it after I get off work; but, yea, many of the guides I looked at previously said I had to get an unlock token file from OnePlus to unlock the bootloader. I used as to get the code and then used the site down below to get the unlock_code.bin file from OnePlus.
https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token
Regardless, flashing that file not the "fastboot OEM unlock," or whatever the command is, worked and I'm certain my device is still locked.
First thing I did after work was to try and unlock it again. I'm not sure what happened or what I did differently, but it worked. Bootloader is unlocked and now I'm trying to figure out my next step.
